Api does not list all prefixes. 'w', 'm', 'meta' prefixes are ommited for WMF

After a talk about it on #wikimedia-tech, there is a conclusion: api does not

The more generic issue is that there's no way to get all prefixes from the
Interwiki class, leading the API (and extensions) to just select * from
interwiki, which doesn't necessarily work when the cache is being used (eg:
WMF).

A) We need a getAllPrefixes() or similar method in Interwiki
B) It would be nice to have native write/edit/delete support for interwiki
prefixes in the Interwiki class

The enhanced editing toolbar has id=edittoolbar, which, unlike the standard
#toolbar does not have the “clear” CSS property set.

That means the toolbar will appear above floating elements (way above the edit
box, which clears properly) during preview. (Click Preview at the linked URL
(and have the enhanced toolbar enabled in Preferences on test.)

Could you be more specific about when you saw this error? You can't have seen
it on the currently running notice because there's only one link... and that's
to the English information page.

This could just be human error, since we manually input the simplified text
(zh-hans) into the Chinese variant (zh-cn). (For example, it could just be
that someone put traditional and then we were like oh that's wrong and fixed
it.)

I always use zh-cn. Now I see

(this is zh-hant) on page, and the link is pointing to
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2009/zh-hant. But sometimes, for
example, when reloading or surfing to another page, I see
维基媒体基金会理事会选举现正接受候选人申请。成为候选人。
(zh-hans, link=http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Board_elections/2009/zh-hans).
Some time later, it changes back to zh-hant. I cannot find any way to expect
what variant it shows.

Oh, well that makes sense then. :-) The CentralNotice isn't running at the
moment, so the error you're seeing isn't caused by that extension but by
something on zhwp. If you look at [[zh:MediaWiki:Sitenotice]], it's currently
pulling [[zh:Template:Commonnotice]]. You might want to point your comment to
them.

If you run into this problem again when the CentralNotice is running (and not
the local notice), feel free to reopen the bug.

What kind of trouble? Error messages? Exceptions? Just failed to run? You'll

And it seems odd that this rev would break update.php, but I dunno.

Update.php runs fine, no error messages.

After checkout from SVN and running update.php, I accidentally clicked the
following link:

http://test.kamelopedia.mormo.org/index.php/Spezial:Beiträge/Dufo

And I only got ... nothing (or a connection error in IE8).

http://test.kamelopedia.mormo.org/index.php/Spezial:Beiträge/BoTeule

for example showed up fine.

If I only check out the last revision (r53554), nothing brakes (the first users
contributions show up fine). It is only after running update.php, that this bug
occurs.

I checked out several revisions between (r53472 and r53550) to approach the
revision, which introduced this behavior ... and it was exactly r53534 which
triggerd the described effect.

This is the Linker.php diff for that revision:

http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/phase3/includes/Linker.php?r1=53534r2=53533pathrev=53534

Maybe Linker.php is somhow used while update.php is running (I'm no developer
and barely speak english, sorry for that)

It must have something to do with Linker.php, because if I check out the last
revision of MW and than manually replace Linker.php with its last revision
before r53534, and then run update.php everything is fine ...

Are there any relevant lines in the Apache/PHP error log? If not, look in
php.ini and make sure 'log_errors' is set to true and 'error_log' is set to a
file writable by the webserver, then try again (you may need to restart apache

error logging seems to be off (php -i says so).

I only have access to the kamelopedia/ test.kamelopedia subdomains of mormo.org
(no root access), so I cannot change anything.

But in the meantime, I found, that especially old accounts are affected by
those bug.

The database at test.kamelopedia is a copy of the original database of
Kamelopedia (which was created back in April 2004). I remembered, that user
Dufo (from the example above) joined us very early, so I checked some
contributions from accounts I know were created in 2004/ 2005 ... and all those
give me the blank page as described above.

I will try to import Kamelopedias database to my local wiki an my Laptop and
try to replicate that bug, so I can add relevant error log lines here ...

Let me approach this bug from a different point of view, the vector
skin. See attachment 6374, made when browsing
http://transgender-taiwan.org/index.php?uselang=enuseskin=vector

The vector skin's search jumpto link jumps nowhere.

Also the navigation jumpto link does not jump to the place that says
navigation, but instead to a better place, which is good, but confusing, as
elaborated above.

Be sure to use View Page Style No Style in Firefox to know what I'm talking
about.

4.--

Perhaps 1 and 2 should not be available, or greyed out unless
$wgEnableUploads=true (but there still might be images on the site,
however). Perhaps 4 should only appear if this is a Talk page, (but
that is too Wikipedia specific.) Maybe 3 also needs to be sensitive to
some variable but I didn't check.

Unfortunately, the 80-100 gzipped bytes (250-350 uncompressed bytes) these
keywords occupy per response still negatively impacts users. Coming as they do
before other headers, the keywords delay the load of linked CSS and JS files,
as well as the content itself, occupy cache space, and take CPU to generate.
How about accessibility bug 19453: it's as if your keyword bad dream
jumped out of the head and into a rendered nightmare the top of the body
for several screenfulls, doubling total page bytes too.

It is a *site* *hosted* by the WMF. The *project* is WMUK, not a website, and
is independent of the foundation. Check with Mike Godwin, he is usually quite
keen to emphasise the independence (and, importantly, the perception of
independence) of chapters.

And where did I ever say that it did? Check the Product.

Local wiki content is not controlled by us, it's controlled by the local wiki
communities. The zhwiki community is the only group that can address this.

However, this is like bug 11130: if MediaWiki were to provide the
proper tools, the zh administrators could avoid resorting to templates, and
 thus avoid ending up
doubling page size and ruining accessibility.

Then file a new bug about that, stating the specific technical feature that
should be added.

The people running zh.wikipedia.org do not understand accessibility,
(go talk to them yourself, I had no success, not even one answer) and have
 ruined
 zh.wikipedia.org for text browsers.

We can't help that, it's their decision.

I suppose the Usability Project is not directly concerned with
accessibility, or else they might have a look.

AFAIK, the usability project is only funded for work relating to the English
Wikipedia.

No. But you can use the pages-meta-current to skip it.
Ok, is not too much problem to download 1GB instead of
758MB, but Could someone find any hint in the PHP code that creates this
backup, that actually explains why this error is ocurring only in the Spanish
Wikipedia and not in the English version?

Sadly we've suffered a loss of a good chunk of our previously run snapshots so
comparing to
those will be a bit hard. If I can catch the problem happening actively then it
will be much
easier.

An example:
X-Vary-Options:
Accept-Encoding;list-contains=gzip,Cookie;string-contains=ruToken;string-contains=ruLoggedOut;string-contains=ru_session\r\n

This header helps patched caches. However for those sites which don't have that
patch applied, or who don't use Squid at all - i.e. pretty much everyone
outside Wikimedia - this feature just adds around 137 uncompressed bytes of
useless padding per request.

This header should be optional, and off by default, unless/until this patch is
accepted upstream in Squid.

FWIW, I also feel this header should also be stripped out from Wikimedia
responses going to end-users (==if there is no Via: header in the request),
otherwise you're needlessly sending them ~260 uncompressed bytes per request:
X-Vary-Options:
Accept-Encoding;list-contains=gzip,Cookie;string-contains=enwikiToken;string-contains=enwikiLoggedOut;string-contains=enwiki_session;string-contains=centralauth_Token;string-contains=centralauth_Session;string-contains=centralauth_LoggedOut

This would presumably involve changing the Squid patch itself.

May I re-open this feature request?
The solution is cleary none, as there is not the slightest possiblitity, that
the (bloated) StringFunctions will ever be enabled on the WikiMedia projects.
I'd suggest to have at least an option to enable the lighter functions.

Here are two examples of views of contributionHistory that refuse to go further
back in time (the 'earlier' link does nothing):

http://wikimediafoundation.org/w/index.php?title=Special:ContributionHistoryoffset=1239580800

In each case, url-hacking by decrementing the offset works.

i don't think changing #search to #p-search is a good idea.

some old scripts expect #p-search to be in the left column, but now, it is not
there anymore. if it's named #search now, this can be a message telling script
developers to change their method of using left column and search box.

if someone needs to locate the search box, he/she can use #searchform, both in
monobook and vector. it's what i'm doing.

[Bug 19852] New: Wrong parameter in gadgets loading

OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: blocker
  Priority: Normal

In the HTML, it's using

script type=text/javascript
src=/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Gadget-mycommon.jsamp;action=rawamp;ctype=text/javascript?230/script

to load gadgets now. But ?230 is completely wrong. It means the value of ctype
parameter is text/javascript?230. It stops gadgets from being loaded. Firefox
says:

The resource from this URL is not text:
http://zh.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Gadget-mycommon.jsaction=rawctype=text/javascript?230

Remove ?230 or change it to 230 please.
