That's not true: this absolutely does not depend on who is sitting behind the
keyboard. We know the IP no matter who they are or what their intention is.

The IP we have is the one I'm talking about: the one the account was created
with, not some hypothetical IP from the future which may be different.

To clarify, the New User log entry is the one that fails to be censored from
the RSS by revision delete. So if you block the user with the censor username
from log option enabled, the New Users log entry is still visible on the RSS.

We do know it, but only in the case where someone creates the second account
for himself. If they create it for someone else, we can't know the other
person's IP until they actually log in with the new account.

Implemented dumpMetaTranslations.php, a command-line script to fetch messages
from a page like
 and
dump it in XML form, suitable for importing into SPI.

The command-line script is specific to the current election and has certain
configuration items hard-coded.

I'm asking for information we don't have.


Note this is confusing even for seasoned CUs. I've been asked about this twice
in the past week by other CUs. And as I say, it makes moving fast harder than
it needs to be.

Currently, when one makes an account using an account, there is no IP for the
2nd account. By chaining account creation along in this manner, users can make
it cumbersome to figure out which was the first account, and then check that to
get the IP. When dealing with fast-moving IP-hopping
(personal-information-revealing) vandals, this is quite bad indeed.

Please log the IP used for creating the account for
*the account that did the creating (as it is currently); AND
*the account that was created

Guys, this is a major issue for stewards at the moment. Please move the log for
globalauth hiding to the suppression log. Our work is basically *doubled* until
this happens - and considering the nature of the disruption, that's very bad
indeed.

The commit has not been reverted, so I'm re-resolving.  I believe I've
adequately addressed werdna's fixme.  I've noted the bug number on the code
review page, so anyone reverting it should reopen this.

Even if there are KHTML users, a variable that encompasses five years of their
browser's history is unlikely to be useful for targeting actual bugs.  Whatever
bugs it was used for back in the dawn of time are almost certainly long since
fixed.  If they aren't, a workaround can be re-added with appropriate version
number checks, rather than assuming that all KHTML past, present, and future
will have exactly the same bugs.

Not confident this is fixed as the revision is marked fixme. Though I would not
be opposed to deleting it entirely if it can be confirmed that most KHTML users
will not be affected as a result (or there are none :-).

this is essentially a duplicate bug of "merge js2 player" 

I will re-factor the 18869 bug patch as a user configurable option to switch
oggHanlder over to video/js2 player. Once the new trunk goes "live" we can add
it as a user enabled feature to get more testing and feedback.

No, this really isn't a duplicate. The overwhelming consensus on de.wp is to
activate this for our administrators right now, here's the straw poll:

That's just my opinion, but I think this should be at least groupped with bug
18780 (with depends on/blocks fields) instead of having a request here and
there. You can reopen it if you want.

Ought to be possible with a suitable tweak to the commit scripts...

Checking man page for svnnotify...

 -U --revision-url URLInclude links to specified Revision URL.

This doesn't do what I expected; -U seems to want a viewcvs/viewvc base URL:
-U "http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Code/MediaWiki/$2";

ends up with output like:

Revision: 53816

http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Code/MediaWiki/53816/revision/?rev=53816&view=rev


Trying with header text instead:

Why is this bug marked as a duplicate?
In my opinion it makes sense to activate new software features carefully on a
smaller scale before activating them project-wide.
a) dewiki is of a reasonable size to test RevisionDelete thoroughly.
b) on dewiki there is an overwhelming support for activating/testing this
feature (as opposed to bug 18780 which has no community consensus).
I was under the impression that RevisionDelete was stable enough to activate it
on dewiki. Brion's comments on bug 18780 suggest that RevisionDelete is not
activated because of disagreements on its use (not because of technical
reasons); these considerations should be easier on dewiki where there's a clear
community consensus.

 convert -thumbnail -profile "[the original file's profile]"
in order to add the profile back in after it's been stripped?

There are some large differences in color profile apparently between:

Possibly caused by usage of -thumbnail in phase3/includes/media/Bitmap.php
Thumbnail is actually a combination of -resize and -strip. The latter removes
profile AND metadata. Perhaps we should not strip if target thumb size is
larger than say 400x300 ?

The patches are organized into 3 groups that are somewhat mutually exclusive
(at least in intent). In addition, the options specified use various
combinations of the patches. So, I think leaving them separate is best.

BTW, the way to use this plugin is simply to type the following:

[vimeo ID] ie: [vimeo 5595869]

The same goes for other types of videos.

We switched from CVS to Subversion over three years ago, and will probably
start integrating some wacky other things like git in the future. High time to
rename the commit notification mailing list to MediaWiki-commits?

"Congolese Union of Republicans" (this is a new page I just found, might not be
around when you get to this)

Type in search box: "congolese union of republicans" = Does not get you to the
article.

Trevor: the barebone bugzilla is installed on bugzilla3.wikimedia.org. 
It is running against a dummy database until we are ready to go live.

parserTests.txt includes 14 tests that have never worked. This confuses
testing, especially when developers need to determine whether their feature or
bug-fix work introduces bugs into Mediawiki. The situation needs to be resolved
to improve the Mediawiki Testing Environment.

Attached are 7 patches that may be used in various combinations to resolve this
bug. These patches have been merged, diffed and tested against r53808. The
patches modify parserTests.php, parserTests.inc and parserTests.txt in the
following way:

+ parserTestsKTFRemoved.txt.patch comments out those tests (14 in total) that
have failed since they were added to the test set. This patch should be applied
against parserTests.txt.

+ parserTestsKTFDisabled.txt.patch adds the disabled option to those tests (14
in total) that have failed since they were added to the test set. This patch
should be applied against parserTests.txt.

+ parserTestsRunDisabled.inc.patch and parserTestsRunDisabled.php.patch add the
--run-disabled option to parserTests. When run with this option specified, all
tests with the disabled option are included in those run. These patches should
be applied against parserTests.inc and parserTests.php respectively.

+ parsertTestsKTF.inc.patch adds a test option, knowntofail. A test including
this option returns the status of KNOWN_TO_FAIL when the test fails and FAILED!
when the test succeeds. It also implements the --ktf-in-fail application option
(which is noted as an option to parserTests by parserTestsKTF.php.patch -- see
below). When this application option is set, tests with the knowntofail option
accumulate against failure statistics. When this application option is missing,
tests with the knowntofail option accumulate against success statistics and the
number of tests with KNOWN_TO_FAIL status is reported. This patch should be
applied against parserTests.inc.

+ parserTestsKTF.txt.patch adds the knowntofail option to those tests (14 in
total) that have always failed. This patch should be applied against
parserTests.txt.

+ parserTestsKTF.php.patch adds --ktf-in-fail to the list of noted application
options (i.e., those returned from parserTests --help). When parserTests is run
with this option all knowntofail tests that fail accumulate against the failure
statistics (failure count and failure percentage). This patch should be applied
against parserTests.php.

Combinations of these patches provide the following options:

+ Install none of these patches and do nothing else:

  + Pros: parserTests behavior remains as currently defined.
  + Cons: parserTests behavior remains as currently defined.

+ Install none of these patches and define successful output as that which the
Parser currently returns (this would require changing parserTests.txt using a
patch not provided here):

  + Pros: parserTests is brought into compliance with the test set.
  + Cons: It is generally bad practice to define success without understanding
the logic behind it.

+ Install none of these patches, file bugs against the 14 failing tests and
then fix the bugs:

  + Pros: parserTests is brought into compliance with the test set.
  + Cons: It has been suggested that the parserTests logic is sufficiently
complex that it may be difficult to modify it to pass the known to fail tests.

+ File bugs against the 14 failing tests and patch parserTests.txt with
parserTestsKTFRemoved.txt.patch:

  + Pros: Testing the Parser using parserTests does not return confusing test
results. Developers can concentrate on those tests that fail due to the
addition of new functionality or intefering bug fixes.
  + Cons: Since the known to fail tests no longer report their presence, it may
be easy for the community to forget they are still a problem.

+ Patch parserTests.txt with parserTestsKTFDisabled.txt.patch. Optionally file
bugs against the known to fail tests:

  + Pros: Testing the Parser using parserTests does not return confusing test
results. Developers can concentrate on those tests that fail due to the
addition of new functionality or intefering bug fixes.
  + Cons: There are other disabled tests in parserTests.txt. These could become
confused with the known to fail tests.

+ Patch parserTests|.inc|.php with
parserTestsRunDisabled|.inc.patch|.php.patch:

  + Pros: This would allow disabled known to fail tests to run without editing
parserTests.txt
  + Cons: Specifciation of this option run
