[Bug 20296] New: Language::getMagic() expected to be a reference

2009-08-18 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20296

Summary: Language::getMagic() expected to be a reference
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: PC
OS/Version: Windows XP
Status: NEW
  Severity: minor
  Priority: Normal
 Component: DynamicPageList
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: kapp...@msn.com

Description:
Language::getMagic() expected to be a reference, value given in
E:\xampp\htdocs\wiki\includes\StubObject.php on line 58.

Overview:
This error shows up at the top of the page of every page. Under all the div
header content.

Steps to Reproduce:
From a fresh install of XAMPP 1.7.2 add the DynamicPageList (Version 1.8.8)
extension.

Additional Information:
Running Windows XP SP3
Running XAMMP 1.7.2 for development.

MediaWiki 1.16alpha
PHP 5.3.0 (apache2handler)
MySQL 5.1.37

I believe this is related to PHP 5.3. If I go back to a copy of XAMMP using PHP
5.9 the Language::getMagic() expected to be a reference error does not show up.

I have performed a basic query with this error showing and nothing will show.
If perform the same query on the previous version of PHP it will work.

Thanks

Has already been fixed (date: 20090713)
Reminder one month later: this bug fix has still not been sync'd yet.

All wikis still show the (currently useless, because inactive) options for
e-mail notification in in users' preferences.

[Bug 20297] New: toolbar does not load on Safari 2

2009-08-18 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20297

Summary: toolbar does not load on Safari 2
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: minor
  Priority: Normal
 Component: UsabilityInitiative
AssignedTo: tpars...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: hart...@videolan.org
CC: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org

On Safari 2, the new toolbar fails to load. It fails silently (no visible
errors in the error console) and doesn't seem to make a single change to the
page. Making it work, will likely be difficult, because Safari 2 is: not JS 1.6
compatible, not supported by jQuery, has terrible JS debugging options and it
is hardly used anymore.

However, perhaps there should be a hook in the toolbar code, for the cases
where it bails, and let it try to load the old toolbar in those cases ?

For testing, older versions of Safari can be downloaded here:
http://michelf.com/projects/multi-safari/

 I suspect you mean $wgNamespaceProtection ?

Yes, that would appear to be the case. $wgNamespaceRestrictions does not exist.

(In reply to comment #3)
Should be possible via $wgNamespaceRestrictions I think...

(Assuming the above is true.) $wgNamespaceProtection is to prevent various user
groups from editing a certain namespace, not from creating pages in it. This
would not work, unless we could make some odd hack which I can't think of at
the moment. For $wgGroupPermissions, currently the only two possible settings
for creating pages are createpage and createtalk, no more specific. I might be
mistaken, but this may require a more complex change.

Definitely causes Active Directory Authentication headaches. It should be a
simply query fix in wikiTables.sql from char(16) to varchar(255) when creating
the initial tables and an update script of

codealter table user_groups change ug_group ug_group varchar(255)/code

Of course if there are any other databases to use then there would need to be
some translation.

Like I said, we are working on a workaround, which involves replacing the

This was done in r55247, I'll try to get it deployed.

I brought it up on www-style after getting no response from David Storey for a
week or so:

http://lists.w3.org/Archives/Public/www-style/2009Aug/0338.html

It turns out that Opera does interpret screen stylesheets in full-screen mode,
but *only* if there are no projection stylesheets. This is like their
small-screen mode: they try to use media-specific stylesheets if provided,
otherwise they try to intelligently adapt the screen stylesheets to the medium
(which doesn't involve changing much of anything, for projection). Obviously
they can't really tell if they're *actually* hooked up to a projector, and if
they could, they wouldn't want to, since that would mess up testing your
presentation at home and so on.

So in other words, we can drop projection as long as we drop it *everywhere*.
I'll see if I can do that.

[Bug 20302] New: OggHandler fails with fatal error if no PEAR installation in include_path

2009-08-18 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20302

Summary: OggHandler fails with fatal error if no PEAR
installation in include_path
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: OggHandler
AssignedTo: tstarl...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: br...@wikimedia.org

OggHandler includes a copy of the PEAR File_Ogg module to read metadata out of
ogg files; however it does not include a copy of the base PEAR.php or
PEAR/Extension.php which this module requires.

On systems with no default PEAR installation (for instance, Mac OS X 10.5 with
Apple's default PHP install), this leads to a PHP fatal error as soon as the
system touches an Ogg file and loads up the Ogg module:

Warning: require_once(PEAR.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream:
No such file or directory in
/Library/WebServer/Documents/trunk/extensions/OggHandler/PEAR/File_Ogg/File/Ogg.php

in
/Library/WebServer/Documents/trunk/extensions/OggHandler/PEAR/File_Ogg/File/Ogg.php

Either we should ship a copy with, or we should make the requirements clear.

IE 5.5, IE 6, FF 1, and FF 2 (and possibly others) do not support the
combination of block layout and vertical margins needed to avoid the span. We
should not be wasting time worrying about spans or not spans when we've already
had to spend way too much time getting old browsers to work. We have bigger
priorities to be working on. If the wikibits.js code needs fixing, then let's
just do that and move on.

On Safari 2, the new toolbar fails to load. It fails silently (no visible
errors in the error console) and doesn't seem to make a single change to the
page. Making it work, will likely be difficult, because Safari 2 is: not JS
 1.6
compatible, not supported by jQuery, has terrible JS debugging options and it
 is hardly used anymore.

If possible at all, that's not worth our time.

However, perhaps there should be a hook in the toolbar code, for the cases
where it bails, and let it try to load the old toolbar in those cases ?

Done (for all browsers that don't support the toolbar, not just Safari 3) in

It is possible that this is a configuration error, but I have verified it on

Currently we display old and new versions side-by-side when changes to images
are committed; it would be useful to add the file sizes (since many such
changes are compression optimizations) and the ability to zoom up the images
(since many of our images are tiny icons).

Plus points if we can disable interpolation on the zoom-up to display pixels
more nicely. :)

Trevor, can you please test the comment in
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Code/MediaWiki/54806#c3564 re: affect of
px on browser zoom in IE prior to 8? (I'm fairly sure this isn't true on
semi-modern browsers like IE 6 and applied to really, *really* old browsers
only, but don't hvae an IE6 on me to test right now.)

More importantly, we seem to have regressed on the browser font size
specification issues -- this sticks us back to an author-specified default,
overriding the user's font size settings in their browser.

I'm not fond of this syntax or implementation; reverted in r

Reverted:
r54748 Making demon happy (adding public/protected to function definitions)
and add some comments along the way.
r54746 Update formatting for r54745
r54745 Added crop support for inline images.

Several issues:
* Implementation is ImageMagick-specific, no support for GD backend
* Specification syntax is pretty ugly and non-obvious imo...
[[File:foo.jpg|widthpx|leftxtopxwidthxheight]]
* Crop syntax seems to be tied to pixels... I _presume_ source pixels? This
would break if a file is re-uploaded with a new size.
* In general I'm very leery of tacking on more
infinite-options-in-infinite-combinations for image rendering; our treatment of
resizing already has implications for CPU and disk usage and this just adds
another level of arbitrary-rendered horror. ;)

I'd much rather we move towards limiting the number of rendered variants we
have, not increase them... IMO cropping would be better served with an
interface allowing for explicit, visible cropping which creates either a new
saved version, or a 'cloned' virtual file which can be referred to by name...
and more importantly, uses of it would be trackable so that if crops needs to
be updated they can be cleanly.

IMO this is kind of unclear and just doesn't indicate the reverted state to

Hmm... looks like the base problem is that empty is being interpreted as put
empty in the sig instead of as use default sig at signature replacement
time.

We shouldn't be saving the username into preferences if it hasn't been
explicitly typed; if the user changes their name, they should automatically
pick up the new value.

[Bug 20307] New: Generate automatic summary /* blah */ when I manually add a section heading when editing

2009-08-18 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=20307

Summary: Generate automatic summary /* blah */ when I manually
add a section heading when editing
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Page editing
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: br...@wikimedia.org
CC: tpars...@wikimedia.org

I often find that I create a section when editing either a full page or
breaking out from an adjacent section. It would be rather handy to have a /*
blah */ section link automatically stuck into the summary in this case, as long
as it's reasonably unambiguous.

Might be relatively easy as a side effect of doing processing for the navigable
table of contents for the editor... :)

Neither of these extensions appear to be in our subversion repository, so
they'll need to be reviewed and committed.

Assigning to myself for initial review...
