Being able to hide pages beginning with ! would solve it at that particular wiki, but a more general solution might be to simply not display anything when the page is initially shown, since the default results (blank prefix search) are unlikely to be helpful in its use as a search page. If it's possible to distinguish between searching on a blank prefix and not having yet searched on anything, that would neatly solve the problem. Not displaying results even for a deliberately blank search would be no great loss either as the same results can be got via [[Special:AllPages]] or [[Special:AllPages/!]]. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 19161] Auto account creation creates privacy vulnerability
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19161 --- Comment #14 from Philippe Verdy 2009-10-14 21:48:14 UTC --- I DID NOT speak about a SHARED table. Even if there are preferences in the SUL database, these preferences should remain distinct and separated from the preferences set in specific wikis (which should still override what is set in the SUL account, until the user wants to apply the SUL preferences globally to all wikis). That's why it would require some BOT-like behavior, if and only if, the user wants to apply the SUL preferences to all his wikis (and notably all those that were registered automatically by just visiting them without performing any edit). In fact I really wonder why an account is created immediately on a wiki, by just visiting it. Mediawiki just needs to track in the session that the user has a subscribed SUL account. This account should then be created only when the user performs an actual edit on the visited wiki, or when he clicks on his preferences. In which case, the account preferences (including the locale parameters like the language and localtime, and privacy parameters like the effective user name confirmed email address) will be automatically imported from the SUL account. As long as such edit (or preference settings) has not been performed and effectively saved, the user name shown at top will display a red link but can still display the SUL user name. Note that I would really like that the language be part of the shared preferences, because it is sometime quite hard to use a foreign language wiki with its default language: you have to guess where are the links to the user page and talk page, and user preferences, and have to decipher the prefernces panel in a language that you possibly cannot even read (despite they are important for effectively managing your privacy options). Why do I ask a way to apply SUL preferences globally using a delayed, bot-like system? It's mainly because now we have really a lot of accounts created in many languages that most users can't even read. so now they can't change their privacy options that have been imported with the wrong default values in the wikis that they have just visited (for example to check the existence of a page in a interwiki link). We have now too many accounts in the system that most users can't even manage themselves, because of the languages that they can't even read (or that their system cannot even display properly with appropriate fonts when those languages are using non-Latin scripts). I think that this is really important to fix: offer them a way to effectively manage their existing local accounts that have already been created automatically under SUL, without forcing them to learn these foreign languages or scripts! Applying the global SUL preferences to the local wikis will require a lot of updates on a lot of distinct databases. That's why it cannot be performed by a simple hook, but by a scheduled Bot task on the server. But using the SUL parameters for all wikis will also be a bad option: there will continue to exist some local wikis for which a user does not want to use the default preferences stored in their SUL account. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. Furthermore an enhancement could be made to enable "re-naming" inline or "ignoring the error" and uploading from stash via api request. [Bug 21141] Add Magic Word to define new section insertion point
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21141 Brion Vibber changed: What|Removed |Added CC||br...@pobox.com --- Comment #1 from Brion Vibber 2009-10-14 20:32:58 UTC --- Hmmm... can you give some actual usage examples? The main thing I'd think of would be for adding a new section above any Category or interlanguage links at the bottom of the page. This could in theory be handled by making the system smarter, so it skips those out for the final-section replacement. On the other hand if folks also want some closing templates or something, then it would probably be necessary to indicate that you want to stop at that point. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. To allow adding (inserting) a section at a pre-defined place in an article, please add a magic word, such as "__ADDNEWSECTIONBELOW__" which will define the point BELOW WHICH the section will be inserted. I'm using a single DB setup and as per the PHP docs: == If a second call is made to pg_connect() with the same connection_string as an existing connection, the existing connection will be returned unless you pass PGSQL_CONNECT_FORCE_NEW as connect_type . == So when the LB goes to create a new connection it gets the same connection string and thus reuses the connection, then when the supposed duplicate LB closes out it's connection and calls pg_close, it unknowingly kills the shared connection. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21120 --- Comment #3 from Lee Worden 2009-10-14 18:02:00 UTC --- To clarify: that code there is a minimal example to reproduce the bug. The actual extension that has the problem attaches a more meaningful comment to the page text (in its ParserAfterTidy hook) only at the appropriate times. The purpose is to inject information into the parser cache, so it can be used to customize the sidebar depending on what's in the page, without requiring the page to be parsed on every view. Using this HTML comment to pass armored information through the parser apparently does nothing bad to the parser, the parsed wikitext looks fine, but then it somehow causes wfMsgExt() to fail to strip the p tags from the labels attached to the form controls at the bottom of the edit form. The form controls are strewn across multiple lines and look obviously wrong in the browser. This is bizarre behavior, and can't possibly be desirable. [Bug 21097] HideUser : Admin-view level
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21097 Thatcher changed: What|Removed |Added CC||thatcher...@gmail.com --- Comment #8 from Thatcher 2009-10-14 13:57:45 UTC --- A. The stewards, and some enwiki oversighters, have used suppression EXTENSIVELY to hide vandal user names. If you have oversight permission, go to special:listusers and look for "MONGO"; there are 100+ hidden user names. Or "SlimVirgin" (20+), "Voice of All" (5), "FT2" (about 15). Or parse the last thousand or so entries in the suppression log. Some of these names contain personal information and are correctly suppressed, many do not. B. Enabling HideUser for all admins would expose hidden user names that contain personal information to all admins rather than restrict that information to oversighters. If HideUser is going to be made available to admins, it must be a two-tiered system. C. Even if enwiki Arbcom and Auditcom enforce stricter standards over enwiki oversighters, we have no control over the stewards. The current use of suppression to hide attack user names is far outside the written Meta:Oversight policy. D. Rather than implement a technical solution, change the policy to reflect how suppression and HideUser are really being used. If there are strong objections to HideUser being used so liberally, stewards and oversighters would have a responsibility and a duty to listen to the community and stop doing it. If no one objects, then there is no reason to stop and no reason to open it up to admins. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
