[Bug 21164] New: Regularly publish updated word lists and definition lists

2009-10-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21164

Summary: Regularly publish updated word lists and definition
lists
   Product: Wiktionary tools
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: General
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: hippytr...@gmail.com

The world at large would greatly benefit from Wiktionary publishing lists of
words and definitions on a regular basis much like Wikimedia publishes raw dump
files of all its wikis.

I envisage several levels, the rougher ones will be trivial to implement. The
better ones will take a little more work. For each English is obivously wanted
with all other languages also desired.

1. Raw list of words (page titles).
2. List of words with all "common misspellings" removed.
3. As per 2. but with all inflected forms removed (alternative spellings should
stay)

4. List of words per 3 (or possibly 2) with all definitions but lacking
information on homonyms, example sentences, quotations, etc
5. As per 3 but with senses clearly separated from homonyms

Note that 4 and 5 will require some structure. A very basic XML format seems
obvious.

[Bug 6068] Change behaviour of MOD and DIV operators

2009-10-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=6068

--- Comment #53 from Philippe Verdy 2009-10-17 02:33:17
UTC ---
Note that I have received several emails from various users (including admins
from non MediaWiki sites) confirming that this is a bug: they saw my last
comment (sorry if it appears 3 times just above), and ask me if the bug is
corrected, or when it will be corrected...

Can you then apply my suggested correction (which tests the sign of the result)
at end of the inserted lines at 404-409 of your last published patch ?

Or do we have to live just with the now existing "floor()" function and use it
directly in our {{#expr:}} expressions instead of the bogous IDIV operator
(note that the floating-point modulo operator is correct, as it uses fmod() to
compute the value) ?

As a workaround until the dump is fixed, mwdumper should make sure that a
comment is at most 255 bytes long and truncate it if necessary. I implemented
this fix and checked it in at
http://dbpedia.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/dbpedia?view=rev&revision=1771 .
Seems to fix that problem for me. Feel free to copy that code back to mediawiki

We want the options menu to go inside the video "window". That way we also
avoid ugly scrolling with iframe embeds as well. There should be fixed once I
finish up new skin system.

You can see the new skin here:

But it requires a bit more work to integrate well ... which hopefully I will
get to soon.

Hmm that strange.. has not really done that for me (also using the firefox
nightly). its possible that is some css conflicts with the usability css? Or
looks more like the css not loading...

Does the stand alone file look oky for you?

Not sure how I could fix this ... block display until the css is loaded?...
although that might be tricky to implement...does this happen for you
consistently? are you on a very slow connection?

Wikia already developed this functionality, so could be a good starting place -
it's available here:
https://wikia-code.com/wikia/trunk/extensions/wikia/SiteWideMessages/ ... via a
special page you can send out dismissable messages that show up on user talk
pages. Because it's on user talk pages, it triggers the new message
notification, so users will know it's there. You can target groups of people
(admins, for instance), individual users, or just everyone. If needed, you can
also retract messages after they were sent out. The messages can have an
expiration date so they go away on their own after a specific date/time -
useful for things like maintenance notifications where no one cares 1 month
after the event. Also handles anon user talk pages, empty user talk pages,
diffs, etc. This was a particularly useful extension as it allowed us to
communicate with people en masse for whom we had no email address. The
dismissable part of it is what made it appealing to the users. Jqsjqs (talk)

OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Video player

Accessing the sandbox with Firefox nightly, the video:
-First, shows the Firefox native video control which disappears shortly.
http://img18.imageshack.us/img18/7050/sandbox21loading.gif
-Then, it's a while showing boxes below the video and having the options
visible at the bottom
http://img96.imageshack.us/img96/4179/sandbox22oddboxes.gif
-Finally, you get the video ready to play, but you don't know what the buttons
are. http://img39.imageshack.us/img39/8707/sandbox23ready.gif
-And in fact, it plays the full video like that
http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/5705/sandbox24playing.png
(you can pause, resume, etc.)

If you're lucky you can get later the "blue controls"... or not. So it's not a
problem of "supporting" the code in the browser.

[Bug 21161] New: Uploading LocalSettings.php does not always invalidate the file cache

2009-10-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon

   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.15.0
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: major
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Images and files
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: manfre...@arcor.de

I switched off Ajax in LocalSetting.php by using $wgUseAjax = false. Still some
pages included the script ajax.js.

The reason for this was the file cache which has not been invalidated by
updating LocalSettings.php.

The cause for the problem is the following:
index.php is trying the file cache in line 85:
  if( $cache->isFileCacheGood( /* Assume up to date */ ) ) {

isFileCacheGood in HTMLFileCache.php reacts this way:
if( !$timestamp ) return true; // should be invalidated on change

Therefore the cached page is used and $wgCacheEpoch is ignored.

The correct code for isFileCacheGood is:
if( !$this->isFileCached() ) return false;
  $cachetime = $this->fileCacheTime();
  if( !$timestamp && ( $wgCacheEpoch <= $cachetime) ) return true; // should be
invalidated on change

$good = ...

Assigning to self. I intend to fix this, at least for the non-AJAX part. I
think Michael Dale's feature is nice and should be implemented, but users who
do not use JavaScript should be able to use the major functions of the site as
well, so this should at first be implemented in pure HTML.

The idea behind the implementation will be the same, a button "upload and
preview comment", which will upload the image to stash and show a preview of
the comment with an option to save or cancel.

Hello, to have a better idea of who is using the blacklist maintained at
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Spam_blacklist please track the number of
requesters (unique and total).

To find these:
*most will be requesting
http://meta.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Spam_blacklist&action=raw&sb_ver=1
as documented at
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:SpamBlacklist#Custom_blacklist_sources
*presumably MediaWiki uses an identifiable user agent when making such
requests.

Thanks.

English Wikiquote request option checkbox to allow users to edit talk page when
blocked

We are asking that English Wikiquote sysops be given the option when blocking
to have the same checkbox that appears on English Wikipedia, to choose whether
or not to allow the blocked user to edit their talk page when blocked.

Currently, there is no checkbox, and it defaults to not allowing the user to
edit their talk page when blocked.

This change has community support. See
.

Thank you for your time.

This is my first time filing a bug request, sorry if I did something wrong.

Using showFatalError()

The page title is not really relevant here (Delete "Foo" instead of "Internal
Error").
The robot policy is, since this message not only happens after posting (the
most
common case) but also when following an action=delete url.
The easiest way to do it while still using showFatalError seems to be
concatenating the tags around the cannotdelete.

It's simple to have local overrides and still use common storage for defaults.

You don't need to speculate about the implementation details, just specify the
features that you want.

This is way off the topic of this bug. To discuss global preferences, please
see bug 14950.

[Bug 19161] Auto account creation creates privacy vulnerability

2009-10-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19161

--- Comment #16 from Philippe Verdy 2009-10-16 11:48:09
UTC ---
First of all, I did not speak about a real bot, but about a bot-LIKE feature,
but still involving a delayed update, where the various wikis would enforce the
applied update each time they encounter a reference to a local user account,
before assuming that the locally stored preferences can be safely used.

> Well, if you wanted preferences to be applied across wikis, automatic account
> creation would be required.

Absolutely NOT ! When I refer to preferences to be applied across wikis, it
just has to apply to existing accounts, whever they were created automatically
or not, the only condition being that these already existing wiki accounts are
effectively unified with the SUL account.

> Or alternatively, common storage, instead of storing the same thing a million
> times.

It is already stored a "million" times : each wikis already stores these
preferences locally, as well as the existing SUL server for these global
preferences.

But using a single storage ONLY in SUL, but not locally would impact users :
they won't be able to have local preferences, when they want to keep them. For
example, users may still want to have different email options for specific
wikis (such as forwarding or not the messages posted in their discussion page),
even if they use the same validated email address on all of them: one good
reason for that is that some wikis are handled by teams of local administrators
that a user can trust on some wikis, but absolutely not on all wikis.

The other reason being that users are multilingual and will still want, for
example, to work on an English Wiki with the English language and localisation
parameters, and on a French Wiki with the French language. They will however
not want to work on Arabic wikis with the Arabic language, and will want to
apply a default language for all languages that they don't want to see in the
user interface (and notably not in the user's preferences panel).

If you just share a common table, it will no longer be possible to work on
wikis with distinct languages when they want, and they will have to accept
forwarded emails from ALL wikis, or from NONE of them.

[Bug 21152] New: Problems with seek bar

2009-10-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21152

   Summary: Problems with seek bar
   Product: mwEmbed
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Video player
AssignedTo: d...@ucsc.edu
ReportedBy: diaa_abdelmon...@yahoo.com

When clicking on a position in the seekbar where the video hasn't loaded yet,
the cursor goes back to position 0 (origin) till this part is loaded then moves
to this seekbar position. The correct action should be that the cursor stays at
the clicked position and loads the video starting from this part. This can be
tested on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Creative_Commons_licenses .

Not able to reproduce this, $wgSitemapNamespaces works as expected in my wiki.
Be sure that you put it after the following line:
require_once( "$IP/includes/DefaultSettings.php" );
