[Bug 21341] New: #time ParserFunctions output for Bengali Wiki

2009-10-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21341

Summary: #time ParserFunctions output for Bengali Wiki
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
   URL: http://bn.wikipedia.org/wiki/user:Jayantanth/Sandbox
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: jayanta...@gmail.com

Dear we have an issue with #time ParserFunctions and their calculation with
#expr ParserFunctions of our all out time based calculation in all templates.

The issue is #time: ParserFunctions output is Bengali numeric number which is
non-calculable.

see the example
{{#time: YmdHis}}= ২০০৯১০২৯০৭১৯৫৭ (output is
Bengali numeric number)

then when we use this below coding to any templateswe got error

{{#expr:{{#time: YmdHis}}/100 round 0}}=এক্সপ্রেশন
ত্রুটি: অপরিচিত বিরামচিহ্ন
ক্যারেক্টার

But when I add this code output is roman number
{{#expr: ( 27 * 46 / pi ) round 2 }}=395.34

see this link
http://bn.wikipedia.org/wiki/user:Jayantanth/Sandbox

This problem is also shown all other Indian languages like Hindi wikipedia

Sorry dear I had just overlook below the table saying that

Flags
xn Format the next numeric code as a raw ASCII number. In the Hindi
language, {{#time:H, xnH}} produces ०६, 06
xN Like xn, but as a toggled flag, which endures until the end of the
string or until the next appearance of xN in the string.

[Bug 21345] New: Make old images searchable by hash

I use the search by hash option to prevent my bots from uploading duplicate
images. If an image gets changed (for example rotated) this won't work because
the hash won't match. The hash of the old image is available in the oldimage
table now. It would be very nice if the oldimage table is searchable in the api
just like the image table.

[Bug 21347] New: ensure that there is the mail account for the sender of the messages going from mediawiki

2009-10-29 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21347

Summary: ensure that there is the mail account for the sender of
the messages going from mediawiki
   Product: MediaWiki Suggestions
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
   URL: https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=524822#c2
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Suggestion
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: i...@altlinux.org

As it turned out in https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=524822#c2 ,
the messages from a Mediawiki installation didn't pass a
sender-callback-verification on the receiving side, because there was no
corresponding mail account on the sending side.

Since for good functioning of a Mediawiki installation sending receivable email
messages is required, I suggest that Mediawiki checks whether the given address
is really present, so that filters don't block the outgoing messages.

Update: I brought this up explicitly on the Google Webmaster Central forum:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=7f545a23e5276203hl=en

While I haven't (yet) received a definitive answer on how Google treats status
code 303, it appears the most useful approach is to use rel=canonical in order
to specify the proper URL. Interstingly, MediaWiki already does that for page
redirects -- but it only does it for page redirects (search for canonical in
includes/Article.php). Why isn't that included unconditionally?

Updated patch

Updated patch so it applies cleanly to current trunk.

Per discussion in #wikimedia-tech, using XVO would make this possible, but:
* It would need to be restricted to a very small set of prefs to keep cache
fragmentation (which increases exponentially with the number of allowed prefs)
at bay
* There is the fear that enabling even a very limited version of anonymous
preferences will open the floodgates to using XVO for all kinds of random
purposes

 What about copyvios?

These can be deleted using RevisionDelete, if necessary

What about people who just want to clear the history of
 their userpage?

I don't see why we need to support this ability. The whole purpose of the page
history is to record all the changes that led to the current version. Deleting
all but the current revision defeats the purpose of having the history (by
deliberately obscuring it), and if anyone but the user made a substantial edit,
it could be a license violation.

I think we should still allow selective undeletion.

Nonetheless, disabling selective deletion just seems like unnecessarily

I suppose the ability to disable it on a site-by-site basis could be provided

--- Comment #7 from FT2 ft2.w...@gmail.com 2009-10-29 16:00:06 UTC ---
(In reply to comment #5)
What about copyvios? What about people who just want
to clear the history of their userpage?

Both are easily handled by RevisionDelete. In the former case the copyvio is
placed out of public access completely, and inaccessible to non-admins, but the
editor's name is not (it's not a copyvio), nor is the fact there was a
deletion. Net benefit.

In the latter case a user who wants to completely delete their user page or
talk page can. But a user who wants to selectively remove some material, it's
again arguably beneficial that the record shows there were edits there at some
point, otherwise the record has actually become falsified; the page history is
made to appear as if nothing took place when in fact a great deal may have
taken place. Redaction's more honest.

Per comment #5, a site by site on disabling selective deletion would be fine.
The problem is that right now selective deletion is breaking links everywhere,
badly. Doing this would allow an easy fix to all that, probably _much_ easier
than trying to fix major link-breaking bug #21279, while simultaneously
improving history merges and copypaste fixes (comment #3) and improving
transparency of page histories where selective deletion is traditionally used
(comment #5).

That in itself could be compelling, if delete link breakage can't be otherwise
easily fixed.

Should be pretty trivial to add a new userright that's not subject to the size
checking limits, or is subject to a higher limit.

New groups can easily be added to WMF config once the right exists.

Ugh, I have to rewrite this whole bloody post because your report system really
sucks. Back button = epitome of evil.

Anyhow to the point, if I title a headline as 'ta', i.e. nowiki== ta
==/nowiki, nowiki=== ta ===/nowiki, etc. I end up with an error on my
page. (ignore the nowiki tags if they don't affect anything here) This only
affects 'ta'. 'tai', 'th', 'ka', or whatever else work without a hitch. Why is
this happening?

I tested it on both the English and French Wikipedias, and in both Internet

Is it possible to do post cache processing?

 1. Server read content from cache
 2. Server modify the date/time (in read content) according to user preferences
 3. Server Send the modified result to client

No, it's not possible with how Mediawiki works.

(In reply to comment #7)
It may be complicate to implement at this time.
Waiting for mediawiki to support AJAX, may made this easier to implement.

Mediawiki already uses AJAX, we've been bundling Sajax forever now, and we've
been moving to jQuery in recent months. That being said, a Javascript-based
solution wouldn't be ideal either. You could probably write it as a
userscript/Gadget though.

 To be reconsidered later.

Marking WONTFIX per bug 4196 and comment #3

If I'm using the Go box, when I press enter I expect it to default to go. It's
the first button and it's what everyone has come to expect from Mediawiki. On
the other hand, if I pressed enter on Special:Search I would expect it to
actually perform a search, not direct me to the most appropriate article.

I think it's actually correct the way it is. WONTFIX?

(In reply to comment #8)
Partly, it's not clear where a given message is used. If this is the message
for when a user has already clicked through, and is presently viewing the
 item,
 then that would explain it.

On a similar vein, a few interface message matters have come up in the course
of using RevDelete this year, as maybe being worth a change to the extension's
default messages. Not many, but a few. Shall I add them to the thread here?

Seems unrelated, so one separate bug that covers them all will do.

Note that the highlighted lines are not the lines which have changed. This is
minor and probably a lot more than trivial to fix. However, the lines above any
of the changes are also highlighted as changed. What's going on here?

If I missed a dupe forgive me, I searched and came up with naught.

Differences in whitespace will show up like that.

EG, in the first large block of text is in the old revision is:

{{Cite web |url=

In the new revision:

{{Cite web| url=

It's kinda of hard to make whitespace in red to show that it changed. Likely
INVALID as described.

Well I take that back, since a printable has moved, in this case usually a
pipe, if it showed up highlighted it'd make this more apparent.

Changing component to wikidiff2.
