That FSRepo on mw:Manual:$wgForeignFileRepos.

It reports that such files exist somewhere (for example, a blue link, and
redirect from Special:Search), but on file description pages, it reports, such
files don't exist. After I renamed the files (use _ instead of ), it
works.

I didn't test other special characters.

(In reply to comment #3)
I assume this was fixed in the meantime; the example images look good now.

No, the problem still is the same. Please directly compare a SVG and a PNG
of the same image side by side. Like:
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jade-weser-muendung_map_de.svg
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jade-weser-muendung_map_de.png

The labels in the SVG are pixelated (particularly when downscaled), single
letters are placed not accurate (jumping up and down, left and right). By now,
it is absolutely not possible to have maps as SVG at Commons - because the
labels are too ugly and unreadable.

For me (as a map maker), SVG usage at Commons is dead. The results are way to
far from satisfying (there are a lot of other problems as well with SVG).

[Bug 21988] New: Advanced Search

2010-01-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21988

 Summary: Advanced Search
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Search
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: gti...@gmail.com

Every popular search interface has an Advanced Search page, where the user
can make use of those search features which are rarely needed but then very
important: title search, expression search, similarity search etc. MediaWiki
supports these features and some more, but offers no help to the user to
actually find them. If he is lucky, the wiki has a help page on searching which
is linked from the search page, and he only has to read three or four pages of
text to find out that which would be obvious on the first blink in a well
designed form. If he is out of luck (such as in the case of trying to search
the English Wikipedia), he will probably find Google (which has an easy to
discover advanced search page, with domain restriction options) more useful,
which is a bit of a shame.

In other words, the current implementation of advanced search (which is just a
namespace selection) sucks horribly. It should have text fields like search
for pages with this words in the title and search for this expression, and
everything that cannot be easily formulated as an additional text field (such
as the * wildcard) should be explained in the search interface in an easily
disoverable and understandable way.

A screenshot of a page rendered in full-screen on a 1920 x 1200 display.

I am having issues viewing some pages in full screen on my iMac (resolution
1920 x 1200). Reducing the window size or viewing the page on a smaller screen
fixes these problems.

As I increase the size of the window, causing the page to render larger,
objects on the page start to overlap and ultimately things such as images and
quotes end up in the wrong part of the article. The screenshot I have attached
shows one of the pages I had the most problems with, probably because of the
large number of images and quotes it includes, the Alpha Phi Alpha on
en.wikipedia.

I have not had the possibility to test on other screens with resolutions this
high, but I suspect similar problems would arise.

This has been there for months but there seems to be no reason why the MW core

[Bug 21966] Normalisation of namespace on User contribs is too lenient

2010-01-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21966

--- Comment #3 from Reedy s...@reedyboy.net 2010-01-01 23:28:09 UTC ---
It's the call to getCanonicalName (as i think was decided on IRC). It doesn't
care what it get, it just returns after the :

IW's give the same.

So it's just some validation on the page title to make sure there is No NS
(technically NS_MAIN), or else its NS_USER

Trying to find similar behaviour elsewhere.. Doesn't seem to exist.

Some modules seem to take it as is, and return naff all, others errors and say
it can't find the page...

[Bug 21991] New: Move common query parameter (uc, rc) validation to ApiBase/Similar

Blocks: 21966

Seemingly (at least!) 3 different ways of validating/whinging at the user for
the user parameters.

Commonise and reuse.

They can still apply more restrictive validation (!anon etc) themselves

As per IRC convo beneath:

[23:29:26] |reedy|
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=querylist=recentchangesrcuser=User:Reedy
[23:29:28] |reedy|
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=querylist=logeventsleuser=User:Reedy
[23:29:51] |reedy| RoanKattouw: seemingly 3 different (at least) sets of
behaviour
[23:30:24] |reedy|
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=queryformat=xmllist=usercontribsucuser=User:Reedy
[23:30:30] RoanKattouw Yeah I assumed that'd be it
[23:30:32] RoanKattouw Interesting
[23:30:36] |reedy| heh
[23:30:44] |reedy| I was looking at bug 21966 to see how its done elsewhere
[23:30:51] RoanKattouw uc reads your mind, le throws an error, rc literally
looks for User:User:Reedy
[23:30:57] |reedy| Yup
[23:31:00] |reedy| Tbh
[23:31:17] |reedy| Shouldn't the validation for this bit be done in a parent
class and kept the same for all?
[23:31:59] RoanKattouw |reedy|: Yes, it should happen in ApiBase
[23:32:10] RoanKattouw Well not necessarily
[23:32:24] |reedy| Well, somewhere common.. As they should all experience the
same validation
[23:32:25] RoanKattouw For instance, usercontribs allows ucuser=1.2.3.4 , but
logevents doesn't
[23:32:40] RoanKattouw Because anonymous users cannot have log entries
[23:32:42] |reedy| I mean, at least, the method, can still do its own, and
call the common
[23:32:43] |reedy| Sure
[23:32:49] RoanKattouw But anons can have contribs and RC
[23:33:21] RoanKattouw |reedy|: Yeah, so the basic ApiBase validation should
just be the ucrc stuff, and then le can add it's no-anons strictness itself
[23:33:29] |reedy| Yup
[23:38:13] RoanKattouw |reedy|: Yeah well since I'm not a volunteer anymore
(it's 2010 now, I get paid again, yay) I probably won't be getting to it any
time soon
[23:33:37] RoanKattouw Although I'm not sure anyone's actually tested with 6,
only aware of 5.3
[23:34:19] RoanKattouw Of course usercontribs and RC still validate
differently, that should be made consistent
[23:34:24] |reedy| RoanKattouw: i suppose thats possibly the way to do it...
Shall i log it as an enhancement and put it as blocking 21966?
[23:34:37] |reedy| cause fixing that will fix 21966 in one way or another
[23:34:43] RoanKattouw That's true
[23:35:03] RoanKattouw Yeah go ahead and do that, unless you feel like fixing
this in the short term
[23:35:29] |reedy| RoanKattouw: i may get to it, not too difficult, just
needs some time i suppose :)

b21991 being fixed will resolve this (as the fix doesn't matter too much, as
long as it's common with the rest of the API)

[Bug 21992] New: en-abuse Mailing lists

2010-01-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21992

 Summary: en-abuse Mailing lists
 Product: Wikimedia
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Mailing lists
AssignedTo: cb...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: jameso...@gmail.com

We would like to create a mailing list for internal discussions between the
EnWiki Abuse Response team. At the start the list would mostly be used for
internal discussions regarding the restructuring of the project and questions
about the reports. The discussions on wiki and on IRC
(irc:#wikipedia-en-abuse) have shown that a mailing list could be
especially beneficial for this. A link to the list would be available on the
front of the Abuse Response page.

The team is also developing a toolserver application similar to the current ACC
Account Creation tool to facilitate reporting, investigating and contacting.
This tool would allow us to keep personally identifiable information private
while keeping the majority of reports public for both wiki users as well as
ISPs who have been contacted. It is also likely to encourage additional users
to be interested in the project and allow users to be approved. When this
application is ready (expected to be done in 2-3 months) we would also like to
put the mailing list as the reply to email for outgoing reports. There has been
some discussion that this email should be a separate and new mailing list to
this current request but that has not been decided. The possible 2nd list would
be en-abuse-team, if you are willing to create both now that would be great so
that we would not have to request the 2nd later.

Please let me know if you have any questions

Requested starting admins:
James Alexander (User:Jamesofur) jameso...@gmail.com
Benjamin Smith (User:Thorncrag) smith.benjami...@gmail.com

I just observed something similar. de:Flatterball had
de:Vorlage:Löschantragstext transcluded and list=embeddedin listed the
article as transcluding the template; an hour later another user sighted the
revision and then neither the API nor the corresponding special page listed the
transclusion. When some minutes ago another user edited the article again (and
automatically sighted it) the listing reappeared.

[Bug 21993] New: Bugzilla shows Software Error when trying to change e-mail address or password in User Preferences - Name and Password

2010-01-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=21993

Summary: Bugzilla shows Software Error when trying to change e-
mail address or password in User Preferences - Name and
Password
 Product: Wikimedia
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
 Severity: major
 Priority: Normal
Component: Bugzilla
AssignedTo: fvass...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: roland.hie...@wilhelm-gym.net
CC: innocentkil...@gmail.com

Whey I try to change my e-mail address or password (or both) on the User
Preferences - Name and Password page, all I get is the following Software
Error (reproducible with two different web browsers):

Undef to trick_taint at Bugzilla/Util.pm line 67
Bugzilla::Util::trick_taint('undef') called at
Bugzilla/Auth/Persist/Cookie.pm line 61

Bugzilla::Auth::Persist::Cookie::persist_login('Bugzilla::Auth::Persist::Cookie=ARRAY(0x8e2acb4)',
'Bugzilla::User=HASH(0x8e95a08)') called at Bugzilla/Auth.pm line 147
Bugzilla::Auth::_handle_login_result('Bugzilla::Auth=ARRAY(0x8e005a0)',
'HASH(0x8e9572c)', 2) called at Bugzilla/Auth.pm line 92
Bugzilla::Auth::login('Bugzilla::Auth=ARRAY(0x8e005a0)', 2) called at
Bugzilla.pm line 232
Bugzilla::login('Bugzilla', 2) called at
/srv/org/wikimedia/bugzilla/userprefs.cgi line 510

I am marking this as Severity major because it is not possible anymore to
change oneself's password once it has been corrupted.

Created an attachment (id=6915)
-- (https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=6915)
patch to add new core parser function

I'm not sure how this would be useful, but i made a patch which basically takes
the link related stuff from Parser::pstPass2 and puts it in a core parser
function named linkpst (since it essentially does the link related stuff of the
pre-save-transform).

- foo
- page
- bar
etc.

The only thing i'm unsure about is the regex in $p4. It doesn't appear to match
stuff during pst.
