I like the localizability of the final output. However, for some pathological (but legal) input the result may still overflow the 32bit range. toRational has the same problem on 64bit systems where PHP_INT_MAX is larger than 2**31. This can be solved easily by not using PHP_INT_MAX but 2147483647 directly. Since EXIF is limited to 32bits for these values, I think it's important that we don't overflow this range. Otherwise we may get incompatibilities between MediaWiki installations running on 32bit or 64bit systems... Attached is a test program that tests both approaches for correctness, 32bit overflows, and speed. Interestingly, it looks as if toRational (with the above fix for 64bit systems) is faster. All these gcd calls in addFractions appear to take quite some time. I installed FCKEditor from mediawiki_fckeditor_ext_N.zip which seems to be a specific version of FCKEditor for MediaWiki. Without any change in configuration files, if I want to modify a Wiki page, I get the error : Internal Error Set $wgShowExceptionDetails = true; at the bottom of LocalSettings.php to show detailed debugging information. But, if I follow David's proposal, I now get both native TextWiki editor or Rich Editor working fine and I can swap from one to the other. I should say that both David's proposal (by addressing by value in hook and extension or addressing by ref in hook and extension) give a good result. So I decide to follow Chad's : no addressing by reference in the extension. I add, that, natively, public function onCustomEditor($article, $user) return false; Well, thanks a lot, guys, you are full of fight. Regards. At the moment it is not possible to create a template that substitutes the
results of parser functions when substituted and that also works when the
template is not substitued.
For example of current status:
Template:X {{includeonlysubst:/includeonly#if:{{{1|}}}|1|2}}
{{subst:X}} is transformed into 2 as expected, but
{{X}} generates {{subst:#if:|1|2}} - ooops.
This feature can be used to good advantage, and some templates use a
conditional around something that subst:s to nothing to warn users that they
must substitute the template.
I would like to propose an additional prefix safesubst: or words to that
effect, which gives the same result in both cases above.
Template:X {{includeonlysafesubst:/includeonly#if:{{{1|}}}|1|2}}
{{subst:X}} is transformed into 2, as before
{{X}} generates 2 when it is rendered, as expected, and
{{safesubst:X}} works exactly like {{subst:X}}

I like the localizability of the final output. However, for some pathological (but legal) input the result may still overflow the 32bit range. toRational has the same problem on 64bit systems where PHP_INT_MAX is larger than 2**31. This can be solved easily by not using PHP_INT_MAX but 2147483647 directly. Since EXIF is limited to 32bits for these values, I think it's important that we don't overflow this range. Otherwise we may get incompatibilities between MediaWiki installations running on 32bit or 64bit systems... Attached is a test program that tests both approaches for correctness, 32bit overflows, and speed. Interestingly, it looks as if toRational (with the above fix for 64bit systems) is faster. All these gcd calls in addFractions appear to take quite some time. Both variants (addFractions/toRational) handle normal GPS input of the form deg/1 min/1 sec/100 fine.
