This has come up in the context of transcluding Bible verses at
[[ws:Template:Bible/Leviticus]]. Right now that template won't work right for
[[ws:Bible (Jewish Publication Society 1917)/Leviticus]] unless every verse is
*individually* transcluded from Page space (having content transcluded from
Page space is current best practice at Wikisource) and marked with a section
tag. This process cannot even be assisted by a template, because section tags
can't be transcluded!

We use:

* 'summary' for actions 'edit', 'rollback' and 'import'
* 'reason' for lists 'blocks' and 'globalblocks' and all other actions except
'upload'
* 'comment' for action 'upload' and all other 'prop' and 'list' modules

so yeah... a mix :)

[Bug 22325] New: Text in coordinates renders inconsistently

Text in span coordinates sometimes overlaps the separation line between the
page title and page content, or goes above it. It doesn't happen in articles,
but it does in pages like [[WP:RFP]], [[Special:Contributions]] (with a
username specified), and when we tried to put a help link in 'coordinates
position' in the search special page. It happens especially with Internet
Explorer (in monobook and vector skins) and Firefox in vector skin.

[Bug 22321] upload.wikimedia.org is giving 401 unauthorized when trying to get old versions of some images

2010-01-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #7 from Platonides 2010-01-31 00:33:42 UTC

I'm not saying that a 403 there is right. Just trying to guess the reason. I
think folders used to be listable but now they aren't. Thus, if it is a "folder
image", and now (ie. server move) the server was configured to give a 403 when
requesting folders, that would be a reasonable explanation for the new error.

PS: Obviously the solution is to delete it and send people to
http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Territories_of_Dynasties_in_China.gif :)

[Bug 18758] API read of watchlist's wl_notificationtimestamp

2010-01-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18758

--- Comment #5 from mk 2010-01-31 00:20:17 UTC ---
Great, thanks for the first part.

Still, the API should offer write. Messing with internal database stuff is the
purpose of an API. I understand Roan's concern: you don't want to let the user
access e.g. their signup date. But I see no reason why the user should be
unable to have control of this field. It is there for the user's convenience,
and no other user or process cares what its value is. The use cases are as
follows:

1) A user script needs to visit several pages or diffs without resetting
notificationtimestamp, since resetting the timestamp might cause the user to
miss vital changes, or be swamped by repetitive emails. The API (iirc) offers
no provision to visit without resetting. The script therefore stores the
current value, visits the diff, and resets the value.

2) A user script needs to intentionally reset notificationtimestamp. Whenever
the user opens their watchlist, the script checks if all intervening changes
were vandal-reverts, and resets the timestamp if they were (i.e. it
automatically marks watchlist items read according to certain criteria).

3) A user checks a page, but realizes that they don't have the time to read
through the changes now. A user script allows them to mark that revision
"unread" by resetting the timestamp to its previous value.

4) A user feels that a edits and talk-page discussion is getting too heated on
a certain page, and would like to take a break from it. A user script allows
them to set the notificationtimestamp for 1 week into the future, which
prevents the offending page from appearing on their watchlist.

(I haven't looked at this for a while, so I may be mistaken in treating
notificationtimestamp as a "lastseen", though these cases can be reworked to
fit.)

We can split the right in core though. Repurposing bug for that.

WONTFIX

MW splits the right, but not the error.

$errors[] = array('customcssjsprotected'); is returned by title, whether js or
css

No way for the API to differentiate, so nothing we can do.

Tag cite error revisions in the history (like the tagging function in Abuse
Filter)

The rational: fixing cite errors requires going through the history to find out
who caused the error and how. Tagging revisions would make that easier to do.

That's a bug report against Firefox, and rightly so: Firefox should not allow a
random web site to crash it, so if it does that's a bug in Firefox. Closing as
INVALID for this reason: not a bug in MediaWiki.

--- Comment #7 from Conrad Irwin 2010-01-30 12:10:33

I applied a patch that adds "safesubst:" in r61710.

The syntax was retained as alternative suggestions are (to my mind) no more
clear in purpose, and in the case of {{subst}} (above) or ,
bug 4484, have their own problems. Alternative names for the prefix
"trysubst:", "subst-if-substed:" are not noticably improvements.

I have a deleted_pages table local branch. It can get around this problem, the
O(N) delete/restore problem, and page suppression issues.

Dusted it off today, with a few merge conflict fixes. I don't see anything
changing soon (which I why stopped bothering with the branch after a while).
