[Bug 13172] EXIF handling ignores tags with Count = 1 (such as GPS coordinates)

2010-03-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13172

--- Comment #29 from Lupo lupo.bugzi...@gmail.com 2010-03-16 07:07:20 UTC ---
Of course it's a hacky work-around that tries to shoehorn array-valued GPS data
into the broken current stored metadata format, which doesn't have array-valued
fields.

Maybe I'm missing something, but I think we cannot change the stored metadata
format. (And that's independent of Tim's worry about metadata being recomputed
from the file if Exif::version changes.) If we change the format of the stored
metadata, we'll break Exif display all older MW installations that get served
the new format (e.g. through InstantCommons), but that don't know that new
format yet. Even if we changed BitmapHandler and Exif::formatData to understand
both the old and the new format, there would still be old installations out
there not having that change. See
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Code/MediaWiki/49677#c2475

With the current format, I don't see a way to correctly handle the more
esoteric array-valued Exif fields such as the white point or YCbCrSubSampling.
But at least we could fix it for the most visible cases: the GPS attributes.
Incidentally, I've only seen complaints about GPS data not being handled
correctly, but so far I've not seen a single complaint about missing white
point data.

Looking at it again is in my plans, but relatively busy IRL atm so it's off to
the side. It's been a while since I looked at it, but the main problem is
parsing the data from the files, once that's done it shouldn't be too hard to
shoehorn it into the old serialized format, I just took the past of least
resistance.

--- Comment #1 from Markus Krötzsch mar...@semantic-mediawiki.org 2010-03-16
08:39:43 UTC ---
In MediaWiki, the processing of things like nowiki (but also HTML comments
!-- ... --) always takes precedence over any other markup. This is a basic
part of the design of MediaWiki's wiki text syntax and it cannot be changed by
an extension (such as SMW).

So SMW cannot be modified to directly use the plain text input that users have
given in contexts like nowiki. It might be possible for an extension to
restore the original shape of such inputs, or it might be possible to obtain at
least the final (page output) shape (the two can be quite different: consider
math).

In any case, quite some work would be needed to effectively undo/modify the
processing order of wiki text in MediaWiki. The practical utility of doing this
does not seem to justify this effort now, but we will carefully consider any
patches that will be contributed to address this problem.

Now we see only the fact that an old revision is flagged.
It would be useful to show, who set the flag, when, with what comment (if
specified). If the flag was set automatically, then a diff should show the same
information about the last preceding revision, submitted or flagged by a
different user.

This is important because the patroller privilege became very popular in
Wikipedia (de, pl, ru, it...), so not all these users should have a reasonable
level of trust (and not in all articles) from another patroller's point of
view.

While it sounds like it might be fun to have, this would not acheive anything;
granted, you'd be able to blame Tidy more accurately, but you can do this
pretty well anyway, it seems.

The main problem with this is that __NOTIDY__ would get included onto articles
containing templates that work with Tidy running, which would break them.

If you want to see how MediaWiki works without tidy, just install a MediaWiki,
you can get them for free, or find a wiki that doesn't enable tidy and borrow
their sandbox.

Fixes to the parser are always appreciated, but don't forget that there's
almost certainly a few billion templates on en.wikipedia that are built to work
correctly by using every existing bug.

ref name=text 2/ref

But a name with all numerals is fully ignored.
ref name=12341234/ref

So the above is rendered in references as:
^ a b text 1

[Bug 22851] New: HTML tidy does not HAVE to break lists

tidy indent fix

There has long been an issue where all kinds of elements are broken if they are
indented or listed. This is because HTMLTidy does not allow block elements
inside dd or li. There is no real reason why this is the case.

HTMLTidy can easily convert this properly by setting indent: auto in the
configuration. I figured that perhaps it might be because the Wiki sanitizer
produced invalid code for these situations at times, but if it did, it no
longer seems to be the case.

[Bug 22852] New: Served in time doesn't reset for cached pages created with rebuildFileCache.php

2010-03-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22852

Summary: Served in time doesn't reset for cached pages
created with rebuildFileCache.php
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.15.1
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: trivial
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Maintenance scripts
AssignedTo: innocentkil...@gmail.com
ReportedBy: tmbw@gmail.com

When running the maintenance script rebuildFileCache.php, the served in time
on the bottom of the html source, is the length of the time the script took to
execute. I would think that it should be length of time that it took to cache
the single page, instead.

!-- Served in 1513.525 secs. -- !-- Cached 20100314072514 --

If anyone disagrees, let me know, as this is only a trivial item.

Concur with Conrad, we don't want to serve non-Tidied pages on production
sites. A special page or API parameter that would render a given page without
Tidy might be a good idea, though, like [[Special:ExpandTemplates]].

[Bug 22853] New: Rollback does not patrol the reverted edit(s) on Wikimedia Commons

2010-03-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22853

Summary: Rollback does not patrol the reverted edit(s) on
Wikimedia Commons
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: General/Unknown
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: krinklem...@gmail.com

After $wgUseRCPatrol was enabled (
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22834 ) I discovered that a
rollback does not mark the reverted edit(s) as patrolled.

So when a rollbacker (who has patroller rights) rolls back an edit (an
unpatrolled one),
then the rollback-action should mark that edit as patrolled.

I suspected the bug on Commons, and tried again several times to confirm.
An unpatrolled edit made by an IP-user, which I rolledback, stays unpatrolled.

Any ideas ?

After further thought, I also have to agree that the switch approach is not a
good idea in this case, and would be happy with the suggested switch on
Special:ExpandTemplates.

However, I do have to disagree with a couple things Conrad said: First, this
most certainly *would* achieve something, since many of our most complicated -
and most ported - templates rely on Tidy to display correctly, it requires
reusers to either install Tidy, or to find a version of the template designed
to work without it (or, more often, to develop such a version themselves). And
second, Tidy only influences output, it doesn't have any effect on how the
parser works (and fixing only the parser's output should not (in theory) break
any template which relies on bugs in how the parser handles input). Therefore,
while disabling Tidy would, in some cases, break output, it would not change
how templates actually work.

It won't change how they work, but it will change the output, and that's all
that matters to users. We've been fixing output with Tidy for years, and people
have come to rely on it, whether they know it or not. Should we all write
templates that don't rely on Tidy? Yep. Would be nice if we didn't need Tidy?
Of course.

I do think a toggle on ExpandTemplates would be very useful, though. Wouldn't
be surprised if we find some parser bugs long-obscured by Tidy after opening
this up ;-)

This is caused by the way cite.php parses the references. If you include any
parameter, even a dummy, when you call the template, then the references will
close properly. For example:

{{Quellen|close=1}}

Committed some fixes for the search and replace dialog in r63839. Safari still
displays an issue with long articles where the selection will not be set
properly beyond 15200 characters. IE still displays an issue where the text
selected is often not the text that was matched, but rather a few characters
before it. All browsers display an issue where matched text inside of template
capsules is not shown.

Sorry, some of the things I stated above are incorrect. There was a bug causing
the iframe to be loaded in browsers other than Opera even when all labs
features were disabled.

UPDATE: With the iframe disabled, the text selected is indeed wrong in IE 7 and
8. Everything else seems to be working fine for me. In IE 7 and 8 with the
iframe disabled, no text is selected and the caret is placed one character into
the default text.

Closing this as as WFM: there are extensions that can do this. Requests to get
it reviewed/enabled on WMF sites should be filed separately (like bug 21377).
Implementing this as core functionality is bug 4469.

Since several weeks ago, I could not see (connect to) any Wikipedia
web site. Other sites or OK to see. I have checked secury tool, checked by
different browsers and also I have had support by my ISP company. However the
problem was not solved. Then my ISP company suggested to ask Wikipedia site to
solve this problem.

My PC (Home)'s IP address is 175.128.42.166.
I have to PC in my home and the OS is Windows7 and XP.

My ISP company and I guess Wikipedia is blocking this IP address.

I did tried Tracert to Wikipedia on my two PCs in my home. And the result is as
follows;

Tracing route to rr.pmtpa.wikipedia.org [298.80.152.2] over a maximum
 of 30 hops:

Just because no one has responded, please don't open a new bug, make any
further comments on the previous one. Perhaps simply no one who has looked at
that bug knows what the problem is. I must say though it seems rather odd to me
(me being someone without a great amount of knowledge how the internet works)
that the tracert to yahoo did not show any intermediate steps.

Some additional information was recently discussed on the IRC channel (there is
also a mailing list if you want help):

Your IP address falls in the range 175.0.0.0/8 which was only recently
assigned. This means that some ISPs may filter the traffic from it assuming
that it comes from an invalid range (i.e. one that is not yet assigned).

Another person has reported a problem with an ISP between them and
rr.pmtpa.wikipedia.org, which is being looked into by their ISP.

If you are affected by the same problem, then a tracert to
rr.esams.wikipedia.org should work. In either case, please ask your ISP to
check that your IP range is not being caught by bogon filters.

Also, your traceroutes are useless, probably because your firewall software or
something is dropping the UDP traffic, that is required to generate proper
results for traceroutes.

Try to configure your security software or your modem to allow UDP traffic, so
you can make proper traceroutes. The first line of a traceroute should almost
always look something like this:

1. 18 ms18 ms17 ms 175.128.*.*

[Bug 22786] Add __NOTIDY__ magic word for template testing and troubleshooting

2010-03-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon

We already know of a few parser bugs that Tidy corrects; edit notices and
system messages, for instance, get served to the user verbatim, without a Tidy
run - this results in things like bug 17486.

[Bug 22856] New: article_namespace is not matched on move

2010-03-16 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22856

Summary: article_namespace is not matched on move
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: AbuseFilter
AssignedTo: agarr...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: nakor...@gmail.com
CC: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org

article_namespace always fails when a page is moved.

I tried the very simple filter article_namespace == 0 and no moved article in
main namespace was matched when I tested the filter.
