[Bug 23190] html tags in text $ latex statements $

--- Comment #7 from mima...@gmail.com 2010-04-16 06:25:07 UTC ---
Awesome, thanks! I'm looking forward to that update on wikipedia.

Now, would it also be possible to mark tex text as class="tex", equivalently to
what is done for PNG rendering?

I suppose the PHP output line should then be:
return ('$ ' . str_replace( "\n", " ", htmlspecialchars(
$this->tex ) ) . ' $');

Thanks again!

BTW, the problem is slightly compounded by the fact that the special template
expansion pages (http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:ExpandTemplates,
http://fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/Spécial:ExpansionDesModèles) *don't* produce this
newline.

A comment that might speak for changing or at least prominently documenting
this:

I just wrote a MediaWiki template expander in Java -- when I was done
implementing all the features I needed, I tested it on a real-life example that
uses lots of nested templates
(http://fr.wiktionary.org/wiki/Annexe:Conjugaison_française:abaisser) and
compared the result with the raw expanded output
(http://fr.wiktionary.org/w/index.php?title=Annexe:Conjugaison_française:abaisser&action=raw&templates=expand).
Everything was exactly right, including all whitespace, except that I seemed to
be missing a newline at the very beginning, and I couldn't figure out where
that was supposed to be coming from. The time it cost me to dig into the source
code and bug reports to get to the bottom of this one discrepancy was quite a
significant fraction of the total time I spent writing the expander. I still
haven't found anything outside source code and bug reports that documents this
behaviour.

[Bug 23208] New: Unwanted redirect on HTC Hero (CDMA)

2010-04-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23208

Summary: Unwanted redirect on HTC Hero (CDMA)
   Product: Wikipedia Mobile
   Version: .5
  Platform: Other
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: blocker
  Priority: Normal
 Component: android
AssignedTo: hcat...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: shen...@gmail.com
CC: tf...@wikimedia.org

As of today, Wikipedia mobile forces a redirect to the regular Wikipedia
website. Even going through the process of setting Wikipedia mobile to default
again results in a redirect to the regular website.

Clearing the cache, cookies, and history does not fix the problem.

Using Sprint HTC Hero running Android 1.5 using the default browser.

--- Comment #6 from Brion Vibber 2010-04-16 01:42:00 UTC ---
Fixed in r65104.

Added iwlinks table to track inline interwiki link usage.

Like langlinks, this stores the interwiki prefix (as iwl_prefix) and full page
title (as iwl_title), attached to the page doing the liking (as iwl_from ->
page_id).
Unlike langlinks, there can be multiple entries stored per interwiki prefix.

Updater to add the table confirmed on MySQL, untested on SQLite but should
work.
Someone may still need to add and test a PostgreSQL updater.

Refactored makeWhereFrom2d() out of LinkBatch to Database so it could be
re-used for the similar mapping for the interwiki links, which need a string
prefix rather than an int namespace key.
Also cleaned it up internally to reuse existing code for building where clauses
from arrays. (Tim & Domas -- if the previous more verbose code was there to
reduce function call and array processing overhead on very large link lists,
feel free to unroll it again if the difference is measurable. Just swap the var
names around from the old LinkBatch code and escape the base key value if it's
not an integer, it'll be functionally equivalent.)

If it checks category first, it can't use the page_random index, so it's O(N
log N) in the size of the category to sort its contents. You may as well skip
the page table join and ORDER BY RAND() in that case.

I don't think it would have been trivial for MySQL to implement efficient "pick
a random row" without some kind of special index. In any event, they don't, so
we need cl_random if we really want this enough.

There's a clear difference between UI clutter, and giving users where a wiki
isn't running the usability interface a more comprehensive set of buttons to
help them learn the wikicode.

Since they see in the editbox, the code generated by the button, they won't
need to use them for long, but learning the functions in raw code is a benefit,
which the extra buttons would help with, and the amount of work required as I
was told by Tim, would be minimal.

Please reconsider the 'wontfix', it should be at least a 'we'll look into it'
if nothing else :)

> I have no opinion on the German Wikipedia's specific uses of the Abuse Filter.

I appreciate that, and I suspect it's the same for the English Wikipedia too.
With all due respect, though, as the author/maintainer of this you have to
realise that implementing any request that gets thrown your way can result in
dubious features that a few influential people (or even just people who know
what bugzilla is) asked for but which are not beneficial as a whole. Indeed I'm
inclined to consider the abuse filter itself to be such a feature. The concept
was pushed into existence by a handful of people -- all of whom just happened
to be people the filters would never affect, of course, and mostly people who
falsely believe a computer program can make a perfect distinction between
abusive and non-abusive actions.

> I think that it makes sense to have the capability to filter all types of
actions.

Again absolutely agree in theory, just as it makes sense to have the
*capability* to grant 'block' to anonymous users. However, unlike such features
-- that can't be played with by random wiki admins, however powerful they feel
-- people *will* (ab)use this if implemented.

A whole bunch of new buttons and usability improvements are done by the
Usability initiative. You can install Extension:UsabilityInitiative to get
them. Until they are stable enough, they won't be part of the MediaWiki core.
We probably don't want all of Wikipedia's edit buttons by default. If you want
them on the wiki, it's easy to set them up, but the default should contain as
little UI clutter as possible.

I suppose that one could be fixed quite easily, but the question is if "show
changes" really makes sense.
The diff will be just the new text, which is also in the text field. We really
should think about just omitting the "show changes" button/tab when
section=new. Although we might keep it for UI consistency.

Resolving WONTFIX.

This is an issue related to local configuration and your host's setup. For what
it's worth, removing a host's injected ads (most likely) violates your Terms of
Service. In addition, there are other entry points (api.php, thumb.php) would
need exit() calls as well. Finally, this may (unlikely, but may...) break
things.

As a general recommendation, we do not suggest running MediaWiki on free hosts,
as they typically do not have the resources required to run MediaWiki. Of
course if you're happy with your host you're welcome to continue using them,
but you will need to maintain your exit() patch yourself.

[Bug 23205] New: pre-save transform may occur outside section being edited

2010-04-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23205

OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Page editing
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: m8r-cyc...@mailinator.com

I noticed the pre-save transform affects the entire
page, not just the section you are editing. If through
some trickery or foresight you create a page like this:

> ==Section 1==
> {{subst:template which doesn't exist yet}}
> {{subst:#some future parser-func:foo|bar}}
>
> ==Section 2==
> Lorem ipsum

A subsequent edit to Section 2 may cause unexpected
changes to the wiki-text of Section 1 if and when the
requested subst-items exist.

Seems like the least astonishing behavior would be to
prevent this.

... but would have to go into the "code review queue" ? But the fix was already
in the deployment branch without any suggested changes. So Tim forgot to merge
it before he deployed it ?

I can send a patch to make wmf4 what was once wmf-deployment adding in Tim's
fix to bug 22388 ? Does that sound reasonable?

And we the other parts of oggHandler can go back into trunk for review ? ( i.e
transcoding so have some basic consistency in the bitrates of embed videos ? )

AFAICT, that will have to scan the entire page_random index in the worst case,
e.g., if there are no actual pages in the category. You left out part of the
EXPLAIN -- this is full thing for me on enwiki (on toolserver).

*** 1. row ***
   id: 1
  select_type: SIMPLE
table: page
 type: range
possible_keys: page_random
  key: page_random
  key_len: 8
  ref: NULL
 rows: 10001064
Extra: Using where
*** 2. row ***
   id: 1
  select_type: SIMPLE
table: categorylinks
 type: eq_ref
possible_keys: cl_from,cl_timestamp,cl_sortkey
  key: cl_from
  key_len: 261
  ref: enwiki.page.page_id,const
 rows: 1
Extra: Using where; Using index

Note rows: 10001064. Try running that on a large database with 'GFDL' replaced
by 'Nonexistent category' and you'll see it takes forever. It's O(N) in number
of pages in the worst case, only acceptable for very small sites.

* If the session cookie was not submitted correctly, or if the server-side
session expired, the server may respond with {"login": {"result":
"WrongToken"}}. You can report this as an error to the user, or retry after a
few seconds.

If the session cookie was not submitted the server respond again with {"login":
{"result": "NeedToken", "token": ...}. This could cause a infinite loop during
the login process.

[Bug 2170] Random page in this category feature

2010-04-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2170

Platonides changed:

   What|Removed |Added

 Status|RESOLVED|REOPENED
 Resolution|FIXED |

--- Comment #15 from Platonides 2010-04-15 11:09:13 UTC
---
Vasiliev implementation was reverted on r27436.

However, I don't think we can make it faster without adding a category_random,
it seems quite good:

EXPLAIN SELECT page_namespace, page_title FROM page USE INDEX(page_random) JOIN
categorylinks ON page_id = cl_from WHERE page_is_redirect = 0 AND page_random
>= 0.15564 AND cl_to = 'GFDL' ORDER BY page_random LIMIT 1;

Both select_types SIMPLE:
+-+--+-+-++
|table|type |key| key_len |ref | Extra |
+-+--+---+-+-++
|page |range |page_random| 8 |NULL |Using where |
|categorylinks|eq_ref|cl_from| 261 |page_id,const|Using where; Using index|
+-+--+---+-+-++

It would change to Using temporary; Using filesort if we weren't using a LIMIT,
but that's not the case.
Accessing the pages on the category is O(1), the problem is that for all the
results it needs to go to page to see the page_random. And for large categories
that would be a worse case of checking thousands of entries.
My testing shows that in practise it is run in a fraction of second, probably
due to the index + random numbers uniformly distributed.

[Bug 23116] toolbar section names and/or buttons wrap, obscuring textinput, if window is small

2010-04-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23116

--- Comment #1 from Adam Miller 2010-04-15 10:40:11 UTC

You could fix this right away by nesting the 'Τοπικά' menu into groups. We
currently float the groups of icons to the left instead of floating the
individual icons themselves. If you'd break it into two or more separate groups
of icons, instead of having them all in one, the groups would wrap to the next
line. Our configuration on the usability prototypes has an Advanced toolbar
with five groups and it wraps nicely.

I'm looking into switching this around so it'd work regardless of the number of
groups you have, but will need more time to ensure that it doesn't break
anything.

I seem to have confused two bugs within similar scope. I think that revision
actually fixes bug 18234, not this one.

IE8 from another user - working fine.

Just checked with another user that has IE8, and it appears fine for them.

Do you currently have any user based scripts or the likes enabled?
