[Bug 23399] New: Remove some extensions from Bugzilla

Hi,

The following three MediaWiki extensions should be removed, if possible, from
the Bugzilla "components" list: Semantic Gallery, Semantic Google Maps and
Semantic Compound Queries. Semantic Gallery became obsolete two months ago,
while Semantic Google Maps became obsolete about a year ago. Semantic Compound
Queries is active, but it gets very few comments of any kind (its talk page is
blank), so its presence in this list seems like a waste.

Thanks,
Yaron

rendering the tilde as Unicode U+02DC, "small tilde". No wonder it looks so
bad.

[Bug 12974] The newline added to a template, magic word, variable, or parser function that returns line-start wikicode formatting (*#:; ) causes unexpected parsing

I forgot to mention that the example is based in a case where the number of
parameters used is superior to 100, so it is desired to have one in each row
(as in the example). The problem is that the line breaks are breaking the TOC,
which shows

* 1 Section 1.1
* 2 Section 2.1

instead of

* Title 1
** 1 Section 1.1
* Title 2
** 2 Section 2.1

This should not be happening, I mean:
Title

should also make "Title" to appears in the TOC, as it does in
Title

Besides this, the code

{{:User:Heldergeovane/Test/Template with parameters
|FIRST
|SECOND
}}

should result in the same output as this:

{{:User:Heldergeovane/Test/Template with parameters
|1=FIRST
|2=SECOND
}}

without any undesired line breaks. Here is a link showing the differences:

[Bug 23398] New: Optimize Animated GIF scaling

2010-05-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23398

   Summary: Optimize Animated GIF scaling

Animations are totally unoptimized atm. I think we should use the following
imagemagick options when creating animated gifs. -coalesce -fuzz 10% -layers
OptimizePlus +map '

That will result in much more efficient thumbnails that are not 5 times bigger
than the original due to all the extra color tables on each frame.

This likely requires separating thumbnail behavior for animated and
non-animated renderings of GIFs will require a bit of experimentation.

AutoWikiBrowser has solved this by introducing a darker shade of yellow or
green on the characters themselfs.

So if:

{{Template
|Param=Foo
|Eater=Bar

changed to:

{{Template
 | Param = Foo
 | Eater = Bar

those spaces would would have a darker backgroud color and the diff-view itself
is also in Pre-whitespace so not only is in AWB visible where the whitespace
has changed also how many.

That would make great addition to the difference engine of MediaWiki.

concur with mike + automatic creation of locked accounts gives extra work to
more wikis where admins will (superfluously) block these accounts, unaware that
a lock was in place. so yes, harmful and a waste of community resources as
well.

[Bug 23397] New: texvc renders sim relation as tilde in html

2010-05-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23397

Summary: texvc renders sim relation as tilde in html
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: texvc
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: c...@tools.wikimedia.de

In HTML output, Texvc renders the \sim character as a tilde. This leads to
output like that at the bottom of the section 'Simple example' in the following
link (make sure your preferences are set so the math shows up as HTML)

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Random_effects_model&oldid=359908724#Simple_example

This looks bad because the tilde in many text fonts is set very high above the
baseline, not in the middle of the line like a binary operator should be.

Examining the HTML output shows that the \sim really is rendered as a tilde
there.

The TeX "sim" operator should be rendered as the "sim" entity, ∼. This is
an HTML 4.0 entity and so it should be supported pretty much everywhere.

At a minimum, when hidden or suppressed, it is!

I'd argue (and it has always been this way until now) that locking should
actually *stop* the user.

(In reply to comment #8)
> What if they had to appeal the block on meta and they didn't have an account
> there yet?
> There should still be some configuration option for allowing some wikis.

Yes, well we want it to work as close to the traditional single-wiki *b*locking
as possible. Add in all the normal block options and we'll be happy to set them
as needed for the various cases: People who shouldn't be allowed to appeal
their block can have a block option set to disallow editing their talk page.
Users who shouldn't be allowed to create more accounts can have
autoblock+disallow account creation set. Etc.

However, since *l*ocking is at present used only for the most egregious cases,
worrying about appealing these actions is not as high a priority as actually
stopping the users we do lock.

If you give us proper block options, we might be able to use them for
non-egregious cases too - then we can worry about how users might appeal the
blocks. Until then, we use this only for actual vandals etc and locking should
be forceful enough to do that.

What if they had to appeal the block on meta and they didn't have an account
there yet?
There should still be some configuration option for allowing some wikis.

Otherwise, disabling account creation for locked accounts looks good.

The rewrite was intended to allow users to log in but not edit - to make it
more analagous to a *b*lock. Automatic account creation should not be
permitted, however.

Had to reopen, bug generated again, this time from my personal PDA, Nokia E71,
running Opera Mobile. This is a symbian based OS, Series 60, so I am now
stumped for a link as to any possible reason for it's occurrence.

http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benutzer:DerHexer/Test4 still fails when I am
logged in. I tried it 3 times after a purge and got the same result from 3

But when I log out, the page is rendered correctly (again after a purge and
from three different servers).

Again logged in, it's the same as before.

[Bug 23396] New: Localized namespaces for Maltese Wiktionary and Wikipedia

2010-05-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23396

Summary: Localized namespaces for Maltese Wiktionary and
Wikipedia
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Internationalization
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: portellichristop...@gmail.com

I here request the new namespaces to be adopted on the Maltese version version
of Wiktionary (mt.wiktionary.org). Here are the other namespaces which still
need to be translated:

* Wiktionary --> Wikizzjunarju
* Diskussjoni Wiktionary --> Diskussjoni Wikizzjunarju

An important request is the change of some namespaces on the Maltese Wikipedia
(mt.wikipedia.org) which I reported some times here but nothing eventually
happened. I'm referring to:

* Wikipedija diskussjoni --> Diskussjoni Wikipedija

Could these translations be made, since it is a long time since a similar
request was done. Thanks.

recentedits doesn't change that.

[Bug 23391] New: Some enhancements for the GUI that vvv/sulutil has

2010-05-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal

AssignedTo: vasi...@gmail.com

Now that CentralAuth has a read-only interface viewable for a broad audience,
it could in some wiki-messages replace vvv's sulutil tool which basicly does
the same.

However two main things I noticed that it is missing that I liked from vvv's
tool.

- Sortable wikitable
-- Being able to sort up and get blocks, editcount or method on top would be
nice

- Flags / Rights
-- What kind of rights the user has here (sysop, patroller etc.)

One other thing I often noticed in vvv's tool is the issue in sorting on Date;
Since the timestamp starts with the clocktime and has month written as a word,
sorting that column would fail. The sortable-plugin supports sorting an entry
at a different point (ie. a "Y-m-d H:i:s" stamp) so that would probably a good
solution.

some redirect to project pages in order to create abbreviations (VP: →
Vikipedio:). So, could you create the namespace VP as redirect of
Vikipedio?

It doesn't hurt to have this *option*, IMO. However useless you may find it,
someone, somewhere, may actually use this.

I've resynced srv99. Please try to purge the affected pages to see if that
resolves the issue.

Having less configuration variables is always a good thing, imho. As long as
it's clearly stated in the RELEASE-NOTES, I see little harm in removing them.

Those blocks should be purged the next time a global block is made.

I've hidden them from Special:GlobalBlockList in r65840, which can be deployed
if necessary.

[Bug 23389] New: Disable anonymous edits on chapterwiki no.wikimedia

2010-05-03 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=23389

Summary: Disable anonymous edits on chapterwiki no.wikimedia
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: Site requests
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: lars-wikimediabugzi...@kamfjord.org

The Norwegian chapter board and the wiki community wishes to change the
configuration on no.wikimedia.org so that anonymous editing is not permitted;
everyone should log in to edit.

I see a section called " // Account creation required" in groupOverrides that
should include nowikimedia.
