The error can be recreated by going to the following file page on wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:First_order_hsked.png) and removing the comments. I don't know if this is an error in the mediawiki site (as in, R/S+ is not a supported language), or we have the wrong revision installed (but I think the listed langauges on the mediawiki page are for 1.0.8), or because of another local problem. On a political note, R is Free software, so for our stats and econ articles if we include code it would be better for FOSS to use R as opposed to SAS. Nothing I know of uses it, and I don't think we should add it just because we can. Adding lang="" to interwiki links is more reasonable, although I'm not sure how necessary it is. Do we have any actual complaints from users, or is it just theoretical WCAG stuff? Is anyone with a screen reader really going to sit and listen to the list of languages anyway? If so, how much does it help the screen reader if the language is specified explicitly? Maybe we should add all these attributes just because WCAG says so, but I'd be happier if we had more concrete data than that. If we do add lang="", we have to be careful, because several of our language codes are nonstandard. But for the usual interwiki inline links, be it by adding a colon before the interlanguage link or by an interwiki link (i.e. to another project) should not have the lang attribute, since they may be piped and then it would be wrong to mark them as a foreign language. This is simple but requires script writers to remember non-obvious crap (b) stuff that uses wgDeferredUpdateList does it immediately if in cli mode (c) stuff that uses wgDeferredUpdateList does do (nor defer) updates when in cli mode. I think you're overlooking the fact that Wikimedia wikis (like the English Wikipedia) are exceptional. For a normal MediaWiki installation, the database load would likely be negligible. I doubt the same is true for English Wikipedia database. It didn't "melt the servers" :) As explained on bug 24124, when viewing a diff, the preview of content under the diff was being parsed on every diff view and not using the parser cache. When viewing a diff to the current rev, which is a very common scenario, I changed it in r69191 to use the parser cache. It's only a fix for a single scenario (diffing to cur), but it's a fairly common scenario in the enwp setup for FlaggedRevs so it should provide a noticeable difference.
