Still producing the same wrong output on autocompletion with r75215.
Looks like the code on line 60 and following in SemanticForms.js is never
reached, anyway not when an item is selected from a list.

It's a best practice used on many Websites to request a new image.

The user has often already entered his account details (username, password,
e-mail) before trying the CAPTCHA. So he doesn't want to reload the page and
loses the information he typed. Plus, most users doesn't know about it, it's
not written anywhere, so most willl never try it. They'll be blocked at the
CAPTCHA stage.

This is a goob bug to send to the usability and user experience team, I'm
adding Trevor Parscal to the CC list.

Captchas with visual verification are unsolvable problems for some groups of
users on the internet. They often prevent the users (which also can be
customers) from using online services or contact/comment forms. The Carnegie
Mellon University provides a [http://recaptcha.net/plugins/mediawiki/ MediaWiki
extension] for reCAPTCHA, which also includes an alternative audio CAPTCHA.
Unfortunately, this solution can't be used for Wikipedia/MediaWiki at the
moment. Why? Please see this
[http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikitech-l/2008-April/037354.html post]
on the Wikitech-l mailing list for example. Brion, the chief MediaWiki
developer: The only thing stopping us from having an audio captcha is that
nobody's put the work into implementing it yet.
wikitech-l/2008-April]

It would be great if the reCAPTCHA developers or someone else could provide an
additional extension just for an audio solution. This would make many blind
and visually impaired users around the world very happy and could make them
more independent of seeing help.

When a user first arrives to the credit card gateway, a session is created for
them to store a token to help prevent CSRF. When a user goes all the way
through the flow and arrive at a thank you or payment error page, their session
is unset. If they click the back button to go back to the form, fill it out
and then submit it, they are warned that their session has expired and the page
is reloaded, requiring them to completely fill out the form again if they wish
to resubmit.

This experience should be cleaned up and made more transparent to the user, as
the more steps required for a user to go through to make a donation, the less
likely they are to actually donate.

If I'm not mistaken, this is already working. We can already add the summary
attribute to table:

{| summary=Intersections are listed in row 1.
Find the intersection closest to your starting point
or destination, then read down that column to find
out what time the bus leaves that intersection.
Service begins at 4:00 AM and ends at midnight.
|+ Schedule for Route 7 going downtown
! scope=col | State First
! scope=col | State Sixth
! scope=col | State Fifteenth
! scope=col | Fifteenth Morrison

etc.

If any wiki still wants to use this class, the sysops can put the class back
 in
 the local common.css.

Yes. The biggest wikis already wiped out most of the hiddenstructure usages
anyway.

The thing is, since the class still exists editors keep using it. And it's a
pain to have to check the templates on a regular basis to ensure nobody tried
using it again. And really often, we find yet nother buch of templates that we
have to rewrite completely.

So please, let's remove it once and for all.

The problem is that File::getDescriptionUrl should do logging in, which means

Alternatively we can log in with a shared secret, but that would mean adding an

There are several projects out there, from stockphoto to mwEmbed, that would
really benefit from license and author information of images being accessible
in some way in the database. (But perhaps also, mediatype [document, image,
video, audio] date, artists, location etc)

Problems:
1: licensekey - licenseMessage
2: scraping the information from the existing messages.

My idea was to create a seperate table, then introduce some new type of keyword
or function, add this to the templates so that the information gets wrapped by
this info and then whenever a description page is parsed, update the table with
the new values. I think we'd want to continue to use our current license
templates, so for that we need to create some key value system, that is
probably a bit smarter than the current license template names, or perhaps we
can create a table of all license templates that describes the basic nature of
a license (pd, attribution required, share alike, cc-0). That would make
searching easier, with the multitude of licenses that we have. Preferably,
there should be some consistency in keys for licenses among the different wiki
projects, that would simplify searching multiple wiki file repo's...

Hacktually, forget the squid. We'll use iptables to redirect people to
lighttpd running a non-standard port serving only DownTime.html. Proof of
concept in place, need to script it so we can easily go up/down.

[Bug 25623] A tag for suppressing automatic unicode version conversion for Malayalam

--- Comment #1 from Bawolff bawolff...@gmail.com 2010-10-23 18:22:17 UTC ---
(In reply to comment #0)
Unicode equivalence fix for Language Malayalam
(https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=22371) helps a lot in internal
linking and searching. But it cause some problem in external linking. For
example Kerala Governments encyclopedia project Sarvavijnjana kosham uses
mixed versions of unicode and so sometimes linking there get not work
 properly.
If possible please include a feature similar to nowiki to suppress automatic
 unicode version conversion.

This is not a fix, but as a work around you can try % encoding your urls. For
example a url that contained the old way of writing (hopefully i get these
characters right) MALAYALAM LETTER CHILLU LL (aka U+D33 U+D4D U+200D):
http://example.com/ള്‍ Can be written in the wiki as
http://example.com/%E0%B4%B3%E0%B5%8D%E2%80%8D and that should not be
automatically converted to the new form (aka 'MALAYALAM LETTER CHILLU LL'
(U+0D7E) which has the % encoding form of http://example.com/E0%B5%BE )

Note, I'm changing the component from Database to internationalization as I
believe that internationalization is a better component for unicode
normalization issues.

I'm not sure where your getting this code from (its wrong since mediawiki isn't
written in python... ), but don't worry if you give the namespace number and
what you want the namespace name to be (Which you did), the devs know where to
add the code (And what it should be).

Per what MaxSem said, what is wanted is a link to a public discussion on
fa.wikinews.org showing that the people there have seen the proposal, know what
it is, and have agreed its a good idea.

There's a script on wmf wikis to select a range of checkboxes by clicking one,
holding shift, and clicking another one, resulting in those two and all
checkboxes in between to be checked (or unchecked).

A button to select the entire colomn sounds cool though :D

--- Comment #2 from jida...@jidanni.org 2010-10-23 21:01:38 UTC ---
First, there should be a comment in the file saying 'for instructions use
$ php edit.php --help'

Then the should be an example of how one could use it to say add a line
at the third line of a file:

wget http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food?action=raw -O Food
ed Food EOF
3i
bla bla
.
w
q
EOF
php edit.php Food Food

Wait, what do I see in getText.php!:

 * Outputs page text to stdout, useful for command-line editing automation.
 * Example: php getText.php page title | sed -e '...' | php edit.php page
title

Well, if only that example also was there in the edit.php usage message...

(In reply to comment #2)
First, there should be a comment in the file saying 'for instructions use
 $ php edit.php --help'

That's pretty standard, I think we can presume that people have a basic
knowledge of the unix convention that commandName --help gives them help.
Failing that they can look at mediawiki wiki where this is also documented.
Furthermore just running it without any arguments will also give the help
message.

Then the should be an example of how one could use it to say add a line
at the third line of a file:

 wget http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Food?action=raw -O Food
 ed Food EOF
 3i

 EOF
 php edit.php Food Food

Wait, what do I see in getText.php!:

  * Example: php getText.php page title | sed -e '...' | php edit.php page
 title

Well, if only that example also was there in the edit.php usage message...

Perhaps an example would be useful (I added one to
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Edit.php ) on the other hand its not
really the job of these help messages to teach basic unix concepts. A person
using one of these scripts should (hopefully) know what edit the article given
as the last argument with the text from stdin means (but thats just imho).

[Bug 25631] New: Timestamp invisible on old edits of wmf sites in diff-view

2010-10-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25631

Summary: Timestamp invisible on old edits of wmf sites in
diff-view
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Normal
 Component: History/Diffs
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: krinklem...@gmail.com

Edits such as the following:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Definitiediff=prevoldid=924
http://af.wikipedia.org/?diff=133
http://bs.wikipedia.org/?diff=130
http://csb.wikipedia.org/?diff=6630
Does not show a timestamp in the diff view.

When going to the next edit however:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Definitiediff=prevoldid=925
http://bs.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Matematikadiff=nextoldid=130
Or when using oldid= instead of diff=:
http://nl.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?oldid=924
http://af.wikipedia.org/?oldid=133
http://csb.wikipedia.org/?oldid=6630

... then it *does* show the timestamp of the previous edit.

I checked on the toolserver and for both revisions rev_timestamp is populated
fine.

Some even older rev_id's do show the timestamp fine in their diff-view but I'm
fairly sure those are imported with a conversion script since those have a
later timestamp.

So to summarize: The oldest few edits by timestamp (not by rev_id) don't show
timestamps in their diff-view.

It does show the timestamp, just in the main header instead.

For example, in http://bs.wikipedia.org/?diff=130 (one of the examples you
gave) there is a header:
Verzija 00:40, 13 decembar 2002

(with uselang=en that's: Revision as of 00:40, 13 December 2002 )

Arguably we should be more consistent, but the information is there.

Making the scope of the bug wider, it appears it's not just on old edits (I
thought so), the timestamp is not shown in in the diff-header on any new page
creation.

Just in case it's not clear what I mean with timestamp in diff, I mean the
blue-linked Revision as of 20:41, 23 October 2010 (edit) on top of the
diff-column.

(In reply to comment #3)
Please make sure that both getText.php and edit.php are equally
documented in their source code comments: either strip the example from
one or add it to the other.

I suppose we are to poke around the wiki for where the maintenance
commands are documented these days. It would be nice if the URL was
embedded in the source, but everybody will remember to look there anyway
I suppose, so I suppose never mind.

As far as hoping commands have --help options: works until one day you
find one that says '--help: no such file or directory' and proceeds to
mow through your filesystem...

As far as running commands with no options to hope they will tell you
how to use them: Bad habit. One day you will find that some programs are
not that fancy and just proceed to do things. One day it will happen to
you.
