Completed from MediaWiki POV in r75244, r75241 and r75240. Wikimedia could make
changes now if it wanted to, but history tells us projects will/can not be
renamed.

adjusts patterns to use old syntax for naming subpatterns

The preg syntax for patterns allows naming of subpartterns.
When using preg with version 5.2.2 the syntax used by CSSMin (?name) isn't
supported. The older syntax (?Pname) can be used on all versions though; so
please use that (patch attached).

See also http://php.net/manual/en/function.preg-match.php.

Hello Carry

Currently we are busy setting up the South African Wikimedia Chapter. One of
the people involved suggestion that we should get a mailing list for the
administration team who is responsible for setting up the list. Please see the
URL for more details. Will this be possible?

Kind regards,

@Bawolff: Its probably because of the language variant, as Derk said.

Cant we make it to show a red Create on all English variants (or maybe in
all

Still not seeing the error:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Fdbaskdfsajbjkdsajkdsf.jpg?uselang=en-gb (I
presume you meant en-GB since en-UK is not a lang code). If it is an issue with
using an english 'variant' this is something that should probably be taken up
with the translate wiki people. (But I don't think it is as I can't reproduce
it)

Since they're essentially asking for the same feature (or to solve the same
usecase), and everyone who's commented seems to like the magic word method, its
probably fine to just rename this. (which I just did)

As an aside, this feature sounds like something that would have a (possibly
negative) affect on how caching works, but I don't really know enough about how
parser cache works to comment on that.

Yea - no easy way. What do you plan to do? Can I support you? I am interesed to
have a good solution.

I play a little bit around to solve my problem. Even it means to hack the
HttpFunctions.php file.

I add the patch file. I glad, when you have a look and perhaps you can tell me,
how to improve the script.

Is there a way to check if the user is authenticated? i struggle around but
find no way, thats work. I am not so familiar with Mediawiki.

Usage
1) i use Snoopy-1.2.4 to managed the login things, download and put it in the
extensions folder (extensions/Snoopy-1.2.4/Snoopy.class.php). Download:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/snoopy/files/

2) add this settings to the LocalSettings.php:
$wgAuthenticatedRepository = true;
$wgAuthenticatedRepositoryUser = 'user';
$wgAuthenticatedRepositoryPassword = 'password';

Hello,

Is there any progress in fixing this bug (and other related to LQT)?

Next weekend Polish Wikipedia community is going to meet on annual strategy
planning meeting (meta:GDJ 2010) and we are planning to talk about enabling
LQT. But it would be easier to discuss if the bugs have been fixed :-)

PS. I heard that you are working under new version of LQT - is there
possibility to test it?

I barely got the posting of this bug right, I'm sure I don't use any custom
css or js (whatever thats supposed to mean) to change anything ;)

I use three different PCs, all three with Firefox 3.6.12, and each with:
1. XP Professional x32
2. 7 Home Premium x32
3. 7 Professional x64

But guess what I discovered, it shows a blue Create in Internet Explorer

The parser cache code would have to be tweaked a bit such that a different
version if cached for each skin if CURRENTSKIN is used on the page. I don't
think that's terribly hard to do; Platonides would know, I think, CCing him. As
for performance: I don't think it'd have a large impact as long as
CURRENTSKIN isn't used on lots and lots of pages.

We've found the same vulnerability in the 'default' input field on the ask
screen. To Replicate:

Go to:
http://semantic-mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:Ask

and enter:

'scriptalert(CSS Vulnerability);/script

in the mainlabel, intro, outro, or default input fields. They all allow the
script to execute when the results are returned.

--- Comment #10 from Bawolff bawolff...@gmail.com 2010-11-01 17:32:46 UTC ---
I barely got the posting of this bug right, I'm sure I don't use any custom
css or js (whatever thats supposed to mean) to change anything ;)

Does the bug still appear logged out (Any custom css/js you may use, for
example if you have something checked in the gadgets section of
special:preferences won't apply to you if you're logged out, so checking if
it happens when logged out is a good way to narrow it down).

But guess what I discovered, it shows a blue Create in Internet Explorer
8.0.6, on my XP (haven't tested the other OSs). Now why is that weird?

That is weird. I'm testing on firefox 3.0.6 (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686;
en-US; rv:1.9.0.11) Gecko/2009061212 Iceweasel/3.0.6 (Debian-3.0.6-1)) in case
anyone wonders (not that it should matter).

The original site request simply wants it turned off on en.wiki.

I have no issue with turning it off on en.wiki, just the issue with it being
removed from mediawiki all together. The version I'm running here for testing
is 1.17alpha (r73191) - retrieved from SVN, and this feature is gone. Looks
like it's been removed from the entire project, not just the en.wiki instance
of mediawiki.

r69337 by Aryeh Gregor still needs to be reverted...

[Bug 5309] Localize captcha images

(naive) patch to make captcha.py work with unicode

(In reply to comment #1)
If the source code of capatcha is one PHP. The functions which to generate my
images with character strings are only in coding ANSI. That wants to say that
the
Arab characters for example cannot be poster.

With some very minor changes to the script this is not true. For example I just
generated a bunch of hebrew captchas (just taking random words off the main
page of he:) and some Ukraine captchas (because it was the only non-latin
language who had a word list thats just an apt-get away).

My very minor changes included disabling the regex check that words don't match
/[^a-z]/. Presumably other languages would need an equivalent checks, and
checks to avoid words with diacritical marks (since those would i presume be
hard to see in captchas)

p.s. I don't know python, so the very minor changes in my example might not be
the proper python way.

[Bug 25729] Add a CURRENTSKIN variable to wikitext

--- Comment #5 from Platonides platoni...@gmail.com 2010-11-01 18:57:11 UTC
---
I am not convinced about the usecase for adding such parserfunction in core.

You want to give a slightly different style to a table (eg. footballer infobox)
depending on the skin. Given how these things expand, this would ultimately
lead to hundred of pages with skin variants.
However, there's another way to get the same effect which doesn't require
splitting the cache: use a class in the infobox, then customize the styles in
MediaWiki:Vector.css, MediaWiki:Monobook.css...

I don't think there will be too much use for message customization either. Take
into account that internal messages can provide the skin as a parameter if
needed, so only wiki instruction would need it.

However, it reduces reviewing. An addition of
inside a biography
would be hardly noticed unless viewing the wikitext, while still providing the
vandal a way to advertise it using the useskin parameter.

Skin style customization via the skin css page, although harder for non-admins,
is much safer.

I don't think it's that bad to do this in production because must-revalidate
doesn't mean the client will pull the resource again every time: it'll just

[Bug 25745] New: PHPUnit parser tests add articles to the database

PHPUnit parser tests modify the db database. Even if they are not going to be
run.
MediaWikiParserTest loads the tests using TestFileIterator (parserTest.inc)
which add the articles to the db when encountering them in parserTests.txt.

PS: They are broken as of r74646, so it may make sense to fix them before.

[Bug 25746] New: categories don't work with the sqlite backend?

2010-11-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25746

Summary: categories don't work with the sqlite backend?
 Product: MediaWiki

OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: major
 Priority: Normal
Component: Categories
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: p...@off.net

I made a clean 1.16.0 install using an sqlite backend, then created a page that
contained only:

The Category: Tests link appeared correctly at the bottom of the page, but
the Category:Tests page itself says only This category currently contains no
pages or media.

A repeat of the same test on a MySQL installation behaves correctly.

From my quick, ignorant poking at the DB, it looks ok -- both the categories
and categorylinks tables have sensible-looking rows in them -- but I really
have no experience here.

Interestingly, sub-categories do work correctly -- which makes me wonder if
it's a side-effect of whatever was done to fix bug 16966?

Actually, shouldn't those already be detected by anti-vandalism tools/bots? It
doesn't exactly matter whether or not it's in a #ifeq: or not. If it's not
detected by anti-vandalism tools, it may be a bit harder to remove, but it
shouldn't be too difficult for someone who searches up profanity here to
remove it.

It may be possible to use MediaWiki:skin.css, but as a non-admin, it is a bit
more difficult to make changes.

Does the bug still appear logged out (Any custom css/js you may use, for
example if you have something checked in the gadgets section of
special:preferences won't apply to you if you're logged out, so checking
if
it happens when logged out is a good way to narrow it down).

Tried when logged out, theres nothing in the Create/Edit area, as it should

Assuming you mean css/js as the gadgets in prefs, I unchecked all the check
boxes at preferences/gadgets, and... There is a blue Create!

re-enabling anything I used Gadgets would cause it to change back to a blue

How would this respond when there's no skin? The only situations I can think of
would be action=parse in the API and action=render via index.php, though parsed
system messages might also be affected.

I agree with Platonides though, if the main use is styling, we have
skin-specific CSS for this already. And when it comes to the English Wikipedia
they probably won't use it too much is almost never a safe assumption.

It would be helpfull narrow-down which Gadget on en.wikipedia is causing this.
Do so by unchecking everything, clearing (see MediaWiki:Clearyourcache to
learn how) your cache, and verifying that the link correctly reads Create in

Then enable one on of the gadgets you used to have and clear cache again and
refresh the file-page again, and so forth untill it goes wrong.

(In reply to comment #1)
What happens when you resize the page? Opera has strange reflow bugs, and
ResourceLoader fiddles with the timing of resources being loaded.

The problem stays the same when I'm resizing the page (as expected, because
Opera doesn't receive a specific CSS).

In my second screenshot you see the computed style for the format
buttons-label.

The rules for .wikiEditor-ui-toolbar .group .label are missing, which are:
border:0 none;
color:#77;
cursor:default;
float:left;
height:22px;
line-height:22px;
margin:2px 8px 2px 5px;

If I put those in Mediawiki:Vector.css everything (even when resizing)
seems fine.

I tested in Opera 10.63 (win mac) and Opera 11alpha (win). It's the same. CSS
is missing.

[Bug 25748] New: action=parse doesn't use cached version when oldid is used, even fetching latest version

Fetching an identical revision using the API takes longer when using oldid,
since it appears not to use the cache.

Example:
This page loads relatively quickly:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=parsepage=The%20Beatles

...and produces the following XML output:
?xml version=1.0?
api
 parse displaytitle=The Beatles revid=xxx
(...etc)

However, taking the same revid, and fetching it using the oldid parameter:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=parseoldid=xxx

...takes much longer. (note: replace xxx with the latest revision id)

(Priyanka is currently planning to fix this)

Created attachment
 -- https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=
Example 404

See attachment. It is completely unmodified (via Firefox's download webpage
function). I can't reliably reproduce the issue, and it is not specific to a
particular title. I have, however, observed it many times. The really strange
thing is that this appears to be particular to one client computer... I think
the headers may be... unusual, so I added a URL for an extension description
which I think may be responsible. It's on the client experiencing the problem.
I am reporting it here, however, because these 404's simply should not be
occurring and are at least partially server side by definition. Also, the
redirect target is breaking things.

NOTE: There are a number of other extensions on the client, but I assumed it
was this one because it redirects HTTP to HTTPS where possible, and I think it
might be sending bogus headers or something... Really, though, this is a
server issue, so I haven't done thorough client-side testing (yet).

This may be a general MediaWiki bug... I reported it here because it may be a
low-level (below MW) problem with the secure server.

How about something like Wikimedia-ZA-Board or Wikimedia-ZA-Committee/Com so
that it can be reused when you guys get a board together?

I like Wikimedia-ZA-Board. The idea is for the directors to use it later on.

boxes at preferences/gadgets, and... There is a blue Create!

Then I rechecked/unchecked each to find which causes the problem, but it
 seems
re-enabling anything I used Gadgets would cause it to change back to a
 blue
 Edit...

It would be helpfull narrow-down which Gadget on en.wikipedia is causing this.
Do so by unchecking everything, clearing (see MediaWiki:Clearyourcache to
learn how) your cache, and verifying that the link correctly reads Create in
red.

Then enable one on of the gadgets you used to have and clear cache again and
refresh the file-page again, and so forth untill it goes wrong.

Yup, thats what I did, as I said in Comment-11. Enabling anything causes the
problem...
