Per Betacommand, I don't think this is necessary. There's nothing to fix here.

We need a new alias for chennai >> " Wikimedia-in-chn "

We are building a Wikimedian community at Chennai & a wikimeetup is happening
there on Nov 14, after a very long time.

Around 100+ people are expected to attend.

[Bug 25896] New: Inline small images with data: URI in ResourceLoader-generated CSS

2010-11-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25896

Summary: Inline small images with data: URI in
ResourceLoader-generated CSS
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Resource Loader
AssignedTo: tpars...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: liang...@gmail.com
CC: roan.katt...@gmail.com

Put them in CSS with url(data:image/png;base64,***); so:

* If a user is visiting the wiki for the first time, this can reduce the number
of HTTP requests.
* Or the data of images can be cached and the cache can be invalidated
alongside CSS, so there will be no need to add ***.png?1 here and there.

Putting this in the component Resource Loader, because:

* With PHP, data: URI can be generated easily.
* Due to lack of support in some browsers, they can be served selectively in
PHP.

Currently Special:AbuseFilter/history can be filtered by user, but not by

Following the "details" link next to a change to a private filter in
Special:Log/abusefilter, or otherwise accessing a diff of a change to a
private filter, produces the message "Unable to fetch the requested versions".
This same message is produced if fetching the diff fails for any other reason,
for example because it does not exist.

A more specific message should be provided for the case where displaying the
diff fails because the filter is private.

[Bug 25799] Enabling viewing patrols seperate from own autopatrolled edits

2010-11-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25799

--- Comment #2 from Krinkle 2010-11-12 12:35:36 UTC ---
not quite, as autopatrols and patrols are both saved with the same log_type and
log_action.
I haven't traced yet how MediaWiki's Special:Log/patrol extracts the
information to append or not append "(automatic)" to the log entry, but in my
toolserver tools I do this by digging through log_params *after* the query in a
foreach loop since I noticed in the second or third line of that string is a
'1' that indicates whether it's autopatrolled or not.

Asuming MediaWiki does it the same way on the log page, this definitely needs
attention.
I think making it a seperate log_action would make sense (just like log_type
'upload' has log_action 'upload' and 'overwrite', log_type 'patrol' could have
log_action 'patrol' and 'autopatrol').

Yep. Absolutely zero need to store them in order to do that, though -- storage
of UAs is done solely to let checkusers loose on them. According to the privacy
policy, you only store IP addresses (and you only use them to deal with abuse,
rather than say to find out what editing tool someone is using, but hey at
least *admitting* you store UAs would be a start).

[Bug 25886] Make bits.wikimedia.org Cross Origin compatible

2010-11-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25886

--- Comment #3 from Derk-Jan Hartman 2010-11-12 17:11:51

I think this could be solved by simply adding the header:

Access-Control-Allow-Origin: *

to all bits.wikimedia.org requests ? Unless we have non-public data that comes
from that server, but I doubt that such data uses the bits server, because it
would not be cache-able.

Geoiplookup has a similar security issue I guess, but that does carry sensitive
data, and thus needs specific Origin targeting (API has this I believe).

Please read the checkuser extn documentation in mediawiki. I am not sure why
you sound surprised with this. All checkusers should be using the tool per
checkuser policy. if you have specific complaints about some one misusing it,
raise it in that wiki. This is probably not the best place to argue about it.

Mediawiki 1.16.0 + ParserFunctions SVN trunk doesn't work for me either.
Replacing it with
ParserFunctions/Extended(http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:ParserFunctions_%28extended%29
) strangely works for me now, with 1.17 trunk. If it looks like my system's
problem, please let me know some test codes or configurations.

I would prefer :tenwiki: like :testwiki: which is also a non language
wikipedia project. There is an old language having ten as iso code. Although
there will never be a wikipedia project in this language ten could be mixed up
if you don't know this. Also :otrswiki: and :tswiki: have this schema.

The chance of someone wanting to link to a dead language with no literate
tradition is zero. That's why LangCom folks said it was ultimately not an issue
to have the site at ten.wikipedia.org.

As it stands the first parameter is the current revision id, the second
parameter is the revision id of the previous revision, and the third parameter
is if its Automatic or not.

The code for displaying this mostly happens at PatrolLog::makeActionText in
PatrolLog.php. You're right that the processing takes place after the query.

I installed the trunk copy 1.17alpha that you fixed, on a local xampp server.
(I can see your fix comments in the release notes)

When I attempt to store a page with the following:

- the save action hangs for a really long time and then I get the following
message:

"Fatal error: Parameter coordinates must be one or more valid locations."

Then I tried the example off of your page at:
http://mapping.referata.com/wiki/Maps_examples

The wiki hangs for a long time and then return the message:

"Fatal error: Maximum execution time of 30 seconds exceeded in
C:\xampp\htdocs\wiki\includes\HttpFunctions.php on line 981"

I am reopening this ticket because I get the feeling it might be more semantic
map related this time.

Thanks.
Corneel.

This was done very early on in ResourceLoader. The code that performs the
operation is in the CSSMim class.

Theoretically not all images are going to be ideal to embed, but so far we have
seen impressive results in embedding even larger images, or embedding the same
image more than once in the same file because of the efficiency of gzip
compression.

As Niklas said, you have to preceded the CSS rule that contains the url() code
with a /* @embed */ comment to enable embedding on a per rule basis.

I'm not surprised about it. I do however disagree with the subversion of the
privacy policy that implementation of this bug would contribute to.

Like the privacy policy, the CheckUser policy page on Meta also makes no
mention of the fact that user-agent strings are stored.

The extension documentation does not mention it directly, but user-agent data
is visible in the example screenshots.

I'm pretty sure having the information buried in a technical documentation page
on another website doesn't fulfill the requirement of the privacy policy to
state what data is being retained and why.

Although in my tools, like I said in comment 2, I do it post-query, I know for

autopatrols), I'll see if I can digg up how I did that.

Well its entirely possible to do something like that in sql, I'm very doubtful
it can be done efficiently, which makes it a moot point. (Although then again I
don't think querying by log_action, which was proposed earlier, is efficient
either, or at least not currently).

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25799

--- Comment #6 from Krinkle 2010-11-12 21:51:27 UTC ---
Well, in the API it is already possible to filter by log_action. So if
autopatrols would be recorded as such, it's possible to use the API to only get
'real' patrols.

In the front-end there's only a way to filter by log_type, but that's fine I
don't think log_action is really something that would be used from a front-end.

It may be interesting in general, to improve that API-functionality, to add an
INDEX on log_action though...

But aside from the API-functionality. The main point is that different actions
should be recorded as different actions, and for Patrol this is not the case.
(overwrite and upload are differrent log_action's)

I found the query by the way:

// Get patrol statistics
$dbQuery = "
SELECT

count(*) AS counter,
log_action,
user_name,
user_registration,
user_editcount

FROM logging log

JOIN user us
 ON log.log_user = us.user_id

WHERE log.log_type = 'patrol'
AND log.log_action = 'patrol'
AND log.log_params LIKE '%\n0' /* <-- this line */
GROUP BY log.log_user

ORDER BY counter DESC

So yeah, that's everything but effecient. The query run took little over 5-6
minutes.

Add Tidy option to ExpandTemplates

This actually adds a tidy option to the ExpandTemplates option. Default is to
tidy.

Untested, since I don't use tidy here.

[Bug 25902] New: Icons for stashed audio files are broken

2010-11-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25902

Summary: Icons for stashed audio files are broken
 Product: MediaWiki extensions
 Version: any
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: UploadWizard
AssignedTo: ne...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: ne...@wikimedia.org
CC: gpaum...@wikimedia.org, asha...@wikimedia.org

When we try to obtain the icon for an uploaded audio file, instead of fetching
the standard audio icon, we instead do this exchange:

http://commons.prototype.wikimedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&format=json&prop=stashimageinfo&siisessionkey=chbquaktkhol08cdl6sq3x9nxqj11vj&siiurlwidth=120&siiprop=url

{"servedby":"commons.prototype.wikimedia.org","error":{"code":"siiinvalidsessiondata","info":"Bad
path: path
'\/srv\/org\/wikimedia\/prototype\/wikis\/commons\/images\/temp\/5\/51\/mid-chbquaktkhol08cdl6sq3x9nxqj11vj.ogx.jpg'
doesn't exist"}}

In other words, the filename manipulation that is correct for a stashed JPG --
to get a thumbnail of that, generated in the temp space -- isn't correct for an
OGG file, whose thumbnail will be based off an existing icon, already
published.

Probably a result of misconfiguration on commons.prototype, but we are not

Thumbnails are also not functioning for the standard file page, so it's
probably not UploadWizard in this case -- from client perspective, thumbnail
request times out.

It's already been closed. To verify this yourself, try to edit any page and
you'll get this:

"You do not have permission to edit this page, for the following reasons:
The action you have requested is limited to users in the group: Stewards.
This page has been locked to prevent editing."

You could also check the closed dblist

Indeed, closing as no consensus. "I do not believe we should have a wiki for
this" isn't really a valid reason for closure. Also, for the record, the
naming scheme used here is actually very common. See sites like
arbcom.en.wikipedia.org and arbcom.de.wikipedia.org.

Because those events do not show up in the page history, they show up in the
logs. User contributions do not show all admin events... they don't show
blocks, either. As far as I know, events only show up in the contributions
page if they show up in some page's history.

I think there's a reasonable argument to be made that a full log of
contributions (all actions: edit, delete, protect, etc.) should be available at
"Special:Contributions".

I understand the distinction between the logging and revision tables, but the
current implementation is misleading and confusing, especially given that
certain actions (namely protections and moves) do end up in the revision
table/Special:Contributions while most other actions besides edit do not.

There are a couple of options here. You could change Special:Contributions to
include everything. Or you could add another Special page that combines the
current Special:Log and Special:Contributions.

This bug feels like a duplicate.

Note, backwards compatibility is maintained so the old HttpRequest will still
work (but you should be using MWHttpRequest if possible). However with that
said, Semantic maps used Http::get which is a wrapper around HttpRequest (now
MWHttpRequest), so semantic maps should not have to change anything at all on
that front.

Oh, ok, that's nice.

This bug report is purely about failing geocoding service then. I'm afraid I
can't really do much about that. You can try switching the used geocoding
service. I'm open to suggestions on how to improve the geocoding capabilities.

Hmm, well that is true, this just happened to me on trunk (on translatewiki) so
