This bug was filed awhile back. I just checked in a VM, and the problem seems
to be rectified now, although there are other rendering errors on the page now.

Short answer: No, the problem does not occur.

[Bug 18443] auto-insert of whitespace

2010-12-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18443

--- Comment #3 from Bawolff  2010-12-13 23:25:36 UTC ---
The proposed solution on de.wiki (if i can understand this right. Google
translate for german sucks very very badly) is to add: wfMsgForContent(
'nbsp-before-word' ) => '\\1 \\2' to the $fixtags array in ~ line 302 of
Parser::parse in includes/parser/Parser.php. In other words, have a system
message with a regex to tell mediawiki where to put the non-breaking spaces.

This seems like a bad idea. First someone is bound to put an invalid regex in
there (that could probably be worked around by checking for validity). Allowing
the users to add an arbitrary regex that gets executed on all text when parsing
seems like begging for someone to put something evil in there. Regexes are
powerful, you can do quite computationally intensive thingies with them,
sometimes without meaning to.

Additionally, mistakes could cause quite a mass of confusion. If someone for
example set nbsp-before-word to be /./ say (or anything where they forgot the
brackets), that would make the parser output only nonbreaking spaces, and break
the entire site which would be quite disruptive.

[Bug 26330] New: collection contents lost

   Summary: collection contents lost

Status: NEW

 Component: Collection

I've tried to make a collection in the Wikipedia in German language,
which does not work.

I constantly loose its contents.

The problems seem to be:
- time - after a while, a ~10 minutes magnitude, the collection is emptied.
- method - whenever you switch to another method of adding, the collection is
emptied. I tried the top block in a page, the mouse hover method, an the
"extend collection" link.
- browser tab or browser window switching. Could be, each tab or window has its
own collection contents which is not communicated elsewhere, or not merged with
other tab or windows lists.

[Bug 25952] Current fundraiser site-notice is fiddly to dismiss.

Illustration of the problem.

In the interests of making a more constructive criticism, I thought I'd upload
an example of the problem, so you can see more clearly what I am referring to.

In the first example, clicking the mouse will close the banner.
In the second example, clicking the mouse will go to the fundraising page.

Can you spot the difference? It is hard, even when you know what you are
looking for.

This could be massively helped by two things:
1) Make the clickable area at least 5px larger than the area of the visible
box. That way as long as part of the 'finger' of the hand is on the box then
it will detect it as a click.
2) Give some kind of visual feedback when the mouse is over the box, e.g.
changing its colour. Currently the only visual feedback is that the text in
the banner (all the way on the other side of the screen, on large screens)
stops being underlined.

Example of current banner

Here is what the current banner looks like. The close button is still
absolutely tiny. I know it is there, so I use it whenever I encounter the
banner, and still I occasionally end up clicking through to the fundraiser page
instead of closing the box as I intended.

However, anecdotally, it seems that most people probably don't even notice the
close box at all, due to its size, placement and colour.

For example, I was watching a very tech-savvy friend browse Wikipedia recently,
and on each page he had to scroll down to get to the content, because on his
smallish widescreen laptop the banner (combined with the top-level navigation)
took up over half of his screen, vertically. I asked him "Why don't you get
rid of the banner?" to which he replied "How do you do that?". I had to
physically point to the [x] on his screen (his first thought was to start
looking through his preferences). He was very relieved to get rid of 'that
annoying face', as he put it.

I am surprised you are worrying about people being able to accidentally close
the banner on small browsers, without being concerned about how the banner
cripples the use of the site in those cases. I expect most users with 'small
browsers' would be ecstatic if the annoying banner went away, so why make it so
difficult?

I am re-opening this bug, as it is clearly not fixed. If you want to close it
as a WONTFIX then that's not something I can argue with, but an extra 2 pixels
is clearly not good enough to resolve the problem.

This would not solve the problem, because not all cases contain numbers (like
the German abbreviation "z.(thin non-breaking space)B.")

Apart from that there are several false positives like "In the year 2525 and
..." where there shouldn't be a non-breaking space after the "2525".

So I don't think this would be a good solution. I still believe that the
already mentioned discussion at w:de
(http://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Fragen_zur_Wikipedia/Archiv/2009/Woche_01#.26nbsp.3B)
gives a possible and good solution.

I'm marking this one as "wontfix" (and clarifying the title). There are a
couple of fixes that we're planning to roll out next week that will make
address some of the shortcomings addressed here. Additionally, I've filed bug
26328 to discuss the possibility of a callback for gadget writers.

We would consider making this a user-configurable option (please file a
separate bug for that if you're interested), but this will be a pretty valuable
improvement once we get the kinks worked out of it.

Sure it is. The toggleToc() code is doing just document.cookie = "hidetoc=1".
"If [path is] not specified, defaults to the current path of the current
document location". so your assessment is right.

I think we should do instead:
document.cookie = 'hidetoc=7; path=' + escape( wgArticlePath.replace("$1", "")
);

(note that I use escape because it leaves / untranslated but escapes ;, not
sure if there may be any other dangerours characters)

Sorry for the delay in responding. I'm going to close this off for now. I know
this isn't exactly what you want but we made the X in the corner larger across
the board (by 2px in each direction) and have run with that for the past couple
weeks globally and, at least anecdotally (from asking online and from a lack of
the emails which we got before) this seems to work much better.

We may be able to adjust it a px or so larger but not sure if we want to do
much more then that. Using the entire section though will be problematic
especially when on smaller browsers that section can get right up next to the
text.

As always please let us know if you think it still needs improvement.

I keep clicking "Show", which shows the TOC, but sometime later they are hidden

different path. I'll bet this cookie is being set incorrectly, and that the
problem is related to subpage URLs.

The cookies are:

ReportedBy: mybugs.m...@gmail.com

The Project namespace of pt.wikipedia.org should be changed to "Wikipédia",
which is the name of the project in Portuguese (this is similar to bug 19364
about pt.wikibooks).

If I remember correctly, this can be done changing the
following:

'wgMetaNamespace' => array(
#...
'ptwiki'  => 'Wikipédia',
#...
),

'wgMetaNamespaceTalk' => array(
#...
'ptwiki'  => 'Wikipédia_Discussão',
#...
),

Besides this, it would be interesting to have the old name "Wikipedia" as an
alias for the project namespace (this way we don't need to change every link to
pages in this namespace at pt.wikipedia).

'wgNamespaceAliases' => array(
#...
  'Wikipedia' => NS_PROJECT,
  'Wikipedia_Discussão' => NS_PROJECT_TALK,
#...
),

The change was approved by the community:
http://pt.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Esplanada/propostas/Finalizar_a_tradu%C3%A7%C3%A3o_de_%22Wikipedia%22_para_%22Wikip%C3%A9dia%22_%2830nov2010%29

Just to clarify, I'm not saying that move detection is preferable to having a
move link, I'm saying it could help solve for the case where someone is moving
by copy-pasting. Also, it would be great if we could get something more than
anecdotal evidence that this is occurring more or less based on the skin
choice.

Yikes! Thanks for letting me know that. It looks like it was even worse than
that - the current value of the field wasn't being set for any textarea that
used autocomplete, regardless of the delimiter, and that's been the case for a
while. I guess it just wasn't a popular feature... anyway, as far as I know,
this is fixed now in SVN.

[Bug 26318] New: values in list not shown by EditWithForm

2010-12-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26318

   Summary: values in list not shown by EditWithForm
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: SemanticForms
AssignedTo: yaro...@gmail.com
ReportedBy: p.ora...@xs4all.nl
CC: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org

SF (r78190) does not show existing values of a field that contains multiples
values separated by newlines. The template that the field belongs to, does show
the values (with #arraymap) and when editing the wikitext with Edit (not with
the form) then the existing values are present as well.

The fileld is defined as:
  {{{field
  |involved-experts
  |input type=textarea|autogrow
  |autocomplete on category=Expert
  |list
  |delimiter=\n
  |remote autocompletion
  }}}

In revision r77626 everything still works as expected.
BTW: Revisions r78129 and higher show different types of errors (bad display,
wrong values in autocomplete pick list, etc); I've not investigated those
errors, but only noticed them while searching for a revision that still worked
with my wiki.

[Bug 26317] New: Switching to Rich Editor drops captions from image links

2010-12-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26317

   Summary: Switching to Rich Editor drops captions from image
links
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Keywords: accessibility
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Normal
 Component: FCKeditor
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: asmo...@in-nomine.org

On a MediaWiki 1.16.0 installation where we use the FCKeditor extension from
SVN we found that if we have an image as such:

[[Image:Tariff-v1.png|frame|right|Tariff components]]

Switching to the Rich Editor (and then back) will rewrite this line to:

[[Image:Tariff-v1.png|frame|right]]

In other words, the caption gets dropped from the Image link.

There is a bug report over at CKEditor ( http://dev.ckeditor.com/ticket/4373 )
that details the same issue.

I am just not sure if this is more of a MediaWiki or CKEditor issue. Best to
keep this issue around as a reminder as well.

Why not add non-braking space after a number in every case? That won't do any
bad I think.
