[Bug 24989] Parameter $1 of MediaWiki:Searchmenu-exists is replaced by wrong string

(In reply to comment #2)
Link was missing initial : to force inline linking in the pt-br master copy;
fixed on TranslateWiki:

http://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=MediaWiki:Searchmenu-exists/pt-brdiff=2695605oldid=906725

It should update automatically after a while.

Thanks for fixing that. =D

(Note the issue mentioned in second link probably remains an is a general
issue, not related to that language translation.)

Should't the bug be open until that is also resolved? I just tried it on other
wikis, and the same problem happens e.g.:
http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Searchsearch=%23mytestfulltext=Searchuselang=de
(which displays Es gibt eine Seite, die den Namen „:“ hat.)
and
http://fr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3ASearchsearch=%23mytestfulltext=Searchuselang=fr
(whose result is La page : a été trouvée.)

[Bug 27393] New: Special:UserLogout should prompt if not originating from logout link

 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: wikimedia-deployment
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Normal
Component: User login
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: douglas.gard...@wikinewsie.org
Depends on: 9816

Currently, Special:UserLogout can be linked to as a normal wikilink,
something that can be exploited by disguising it as a link to, say, a user talk
page.

As Special:UserLogout logs users out as soon as the link is clicked, a user
that clicks the link by accident must log back in manually. I propose that
Special:UserLogout should instead prompt Would you like to log out? if
accessed from any other method other than clicking Log out from the personal
links in the corner of the screen, in order to, in part, prevent this sort of
click-jacking prank.

Our code still has things like

$dv = reset( $data-getPropertyValues( $property ) );

which should cause this message to appear as well (or does it not?). If this is
the case, the bug should remain open until we rewrote all such uses to
something like

$values = $data-getPropertyValues( $property );
$dv = reset( $values );

I wonder if there isn't a more direct way of getting the first/last element of
a PHP array without assigning it to a variable first.

Better show the date/time of the last change of the most recently edited

Changing component and summary.
This message is loaded in the content language by the core, not by the
extension.
This affects multi-lingual wikis such as Commons as well.

The message is MediaWiki:Lastmodifiedat and, if there are no other problems,
could simple be gotten got 'user language' instead of msgForContent.

(In reply to comment #0)
Users should be allowed to subscribe to followups and comments to a revision
without making a comment on the revision.

And ofcourse be able to unwatch in some cases.

(In reply to comment #3)
Additionally it would be nice to have full watchlist features, allowing
individual selection of which revisions to watch and whether to send emails
for
comments, follow-ups and status changes (status changes go unnotified at all).
Special:CodeWatchlist oid

Perhaps code comments could be integrated further though so that the normal
watchlist can be used, as well as WhatLinksHere etc.

LiquidTreads does go into the linking system, see for example:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:WhatLinksHere/Talk:License_integration_MediaWiki

On that though, comments should be editable to some degree and automatically
close any unclosed tags (tidy? seperate bugs..)

(In reply to comment #11)
It's a bit confusing, and I apologize for contributing to the confusion. I
agree with Helder above: let's have this bug be about the display of the
CS/JSS
_source code_ on preview (which I think would be a good idea, with or without
a
separate test button).

Indeed. Changing summary again and marking as fixed.

As of 1.17 previewing pages like MediaWiki:Common.js output in pre instead of
render like Wikitext, so there's no need to start witih /* pre */ or /*
nowiki */ anymore.

I can't find the exact revision this was implemented though.
It's live on the 1.17wmf1 wikis.(In reply to comment #12)

Does anybody knows why the preview of, for example,
b:pt:MediaWiki:Common.js shows the source code above the edit box, but the
same still doesn't happens with user js like
b:pt:Special:MyPage/vector.js?

The behavour is consistent:
* If you modify pages that are 'yours' they are executed and now shown
* If you modify other pages (ie. when you're a sysop and edit other people's
vector.js or when one alters MediaWiki:Common.js) the code is not executed but
shown.

If you would like to see this behaviour different, please open a seperate bug.

On http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Thread:Support/Page_last_modified there is:

mediaWiki.loader.implement(jquery.ui.core,function($,mw){ ...

... is inserted by me and not in the actual code

The SyntaxError: Parse error traces back to directly after http:

ie. the // in http:// was treated as a comment. I'm not sure whether this is
caused by the CSS minifer or by the javascript minifier that ran afterwards.

In the end obviously the JavaScript minifier is the one removing the //
comment, but the root cause could be in the CSS minifier.

Possible work around:
Don't minify the end output of load.php (ie. the mediaWiki.loader.implement
calls), but only run javascript minify on the modules themselfs between { and }
of the implemenet() call, and the CSS minifer on what is in the later argument.
Reason being that the call to mediaWiki.loader.load are so simple there's no
need to minify them, it would only bring in extra unneeded risks such as the js
minifier screwing in the css-string.

Ofcourse that's not a permanent solution as there could be a css string like
that inside a module as well such as:

$(el).attr('style', 'background: url(http:// ...
or
appendCSS( 'el { background: url(http:// ...

This is breaking javascript execution completely on some pages of
TranslateWiki.net

Since bug 4801 was fixed, it is now possible to preview the source code of
scripts and stylesheets when editing CSS and JS pages. Nonetheless, the source
code is displayed in a pre instead of being highlighted (as happens e.g.
after the page is saved).

It would be useful to have Geshi highlighting applied to the code during
preview, because then the users wouldn't need to put source tags around the

[Bug 27398] New: $namespaceGenderAliases not compatible with $wgExtraNamespaces

2011-02-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon

 Summary: $namespaceGenderAliases not compatible with

 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.18-svn
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Internationalization
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: danny.lei...@gmail.com

When $namespaceGenderAliases is set in MessagesXX.php (where XX is a language

LocalSettings.php not works.

In my opinion $wgExtraNamespaces should overrides $namespaceGenderAliases

or

as in my humble suggestion (read
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17160#c19 and
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=17160#c20) there should be
possibility to set in LocalSettings.php namespace in proper gender form:
$wgExtraNamespaces[NS_USER] = array (male = male form, female = female
form);

$wgExtraNamespaces is for configuring extra namespaces, not to reconfigure
existing namespaces. Are you sure you don't want $wgNamespaceAliases?

$wgExtraNamespaces allows configuring extra namespaces *and also* reconfigure
existing namespaces, for example please look at
http://noc.wikimedia.org/conf/highlight.php?file=InitialiseSettings.php - in
default MediaWiki installation user namespace is Użytkownik (User) and using
$wgExtraNamespaces we can reconfigure user namespace to Wikipedysta
(Wikipedian).

To reproduce:
1. set $namespaceGenderAliases in MessagesXX.php
2. set $wgExtraNamespaces[NS_USER] = Foo; in LocalSettings.php
3. for example open Special:AllPages and try choose user namespace in

[Bug 26092] Enable or install string parsing wikimarkup functionality on WMF wikis

2011-02-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26092

--- Comment #31 from Rich Farmbrough rich...@farmbrough.co.uk 2011-02-14
14:55:31 UTC ---
I find Mark's confusion only too understandable.

The thrust of the argument against providing extended parser functions (and
most other string handling possibilities) seems to be people will use them
and cause performance problems. This is a form of dynamical system - the more
facilities you provide the more are used, until a problem is hit. From the
point of view of - say - rendering time, or expanded size or some other metric,
the community receives a new, more efficient tool, and after a period of time
the rendering times are back to what they were before. So if you are running
the servers you might say nothing gained. But in fact, functionality has
been gained. Look if you will at

en:Template:Monthly clean-up category

If you want to create a monthly clean-up category you stick this template on
the page and that's it. No paramters. No cats. No Defaultsort. No tag, boxes,
typing, just Edit ctrl V alt-shift-s.

That is productivity, that means we have more time for other stuff. And since
the pages are behind the scenes, the render time isn't critical (but I'll bet
it's pretty quick anyway, and with Wikkd (sp's) speedups could be quicker).

Now there is no reason this sort of functionality shouldn't be used to parse
template arguments. I cannot, for example, reliably remove [[]] from a
parameter. This means the only solution to the link or not dilemma is to not
link, and enforce that by bot, or using string functions to spot the [, and
then use autolink which invokes ifexists which (we are told) is an
expensive parser function (why it's expensive is a mystery, it should be much
cheaper to find if something exists than to transclude it, since transclusion
needs to determine if the thing exists anyway).

The recursive (which are not recursive) are not really a problem, the
problem lies with the fact that some of the core or widely used templates are
inefficient - I plead guilty to adding a few symbols to yesno many moons
ago, which probably get evaluated several hundreds of millions of times a day.

But for deep template magic I don't really care where the functionality or
performance comes from - I could suggest a hashed lookup table might be a great
boost, for example - I just want to be able to use the sub-template
en:Template:Page numbers in the cite family without killing pages.

Good software engineering practice is to validate your inputs, we don't have
that luxury without simple string handling.

--- Comment #1 from J determineddomi...@gmail.com 2011-02-14 15:20:17 UTC ---
I can't believe I forgot to mention this - readers have been demanding a better
editing GUI! Everyone always tells me it's too hard to edit wikipedia, probably
because nowadays everything is intuitive pop-up menus (where editing wikipedia
is a wall of text with even some code).

I would suggest, next to the [edit] button in each section, there be a more
stylish post-it button - so that readers with accounts can leave expandable
post-its in the margins about anything from new sources to be incorporated to
warning about boring sentences.

[Bug 27391] classHTTP::getAsFile

2011-02-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27391

--- Comment #1 from Amgine amgine.sae...@gmail.com 2011-02-14 16:34:45 UTC ---
Here is a function currently used in an extension maintenance script to
retrieve a remote file; it uses cURL which is not universally installed, stores
files in a temporary directory under the extension using a temporary name, the
former of which is fragile and writability must be tested within the script,
and returns the temporary filename or false:

function getHttpFile( $url ){
$val = false;
$tempName = tempnam( 'temp/', 'MyExtension' );
if( is_writable( $tempName ) ){
$tfh = fopen( $tempName, 'w' );
if( is_resource( $tfh ) ){
$ch = curl_init( $url );
curl_setopt( $ch, CURLOPT_FILE, $tfh );
curl_setopt( $ch, CURLOPT_HEADER, false );
if( curl_exec( $ch ) ){
$val = $tempName;
}
curl_close( $ch );
fclose( $tfh );
}
}
return $val;
}

There are a lot of reasons this is a less-than-desirable solution.

(In reply to comment #12)
Why does ts_parseIP() have an octetlist var (and not quadlist).

ts_parseIP() has an octetlist because it contains a list of octets.

Why are they octets and not quads? Because the specification for the
Internet Protocol calls these items octets. See RFC 791 (Postel, 1981).

Why does the RFC refer to them as octets instad of bytes? Because the term
octet denotes to 8 bits, whereas byte refers to an undefined group of bits
(usually 8 bits, but 6,7,or 10 on some computer architectures.) This is an
important distinction for a networking protocol whose goal is to enable
communications between systems regardless of processing architecture.

The extension should use wfTempDir() instead of temp/ (unless it really wants
the file to stick around, then it should use $wgTmpDir).

As far as writing output...this can already be done by specifying a callback
function. I improved this in r82117 to allow specifying it in the $options
array (rather than having to call setCallback() yourself)

Generally, I don't think letting callers handle file output is bad, there's
nothing inherently wrong with it. However, we could add the ability to the Http
class fairly trivially, if we really think it would help in some places (or
reduce code duplication, I haven't grep'd around to see)

Thanks for reporting. I'm planning to have a look at SMWs PostGres support,
but
this is blocked by the current MediaWiki installer having broken PostGres
support, preventing me from setting up a testing wiki.

Have you tried the latest installer? I've done extensive testing and verified
that Pg works.

This is not an anticipated feature for UploadWizard 1.0. Removing blocker

We will review this bug at some later time.

My own feeling is that batch features may be handled in a manner completely
outside UploadWizard at some point.

[Bug 27401] New: Watchlisting a page takes you to confirmation page, not the JsNotice, Firefox

2011-02-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27401

 Summary: Watchlisting a page takes you to confirmation page,
not the JsNotice, Firefox
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: wikimedia-deployment
 Platform: All
 URL: http://en.wikinews.org
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Normal
Component: Watchlist
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: douglas.gard...@wikinewsie.org

n:User:Dendodge has reported that clicking Vector's star to watch a page
now takes him to a confirmation notice on a separate page (such as the one one
gets when using action=unwatch directly), as supposed to a JsNotice-style
message in the article itself (which should happen when you click Vector's
star). This appears to be a regression from 1.16.

I have been unable to reproduce this bug in (an admittedly broken) Firefox
3.6.13 or Chromium. He says that it works fine in IE Google Chrome, but not
in Firefox 3.6.13. He has Javascript CSS enabled.

His Firefox build ID: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; en-GB;
rv:1.9.2.13) Gecko/20101203 Firefox/3.6.13 GTB7.1

[Bug 26049] No suggestions appear for files with bad file name.

2011-02-14 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=26049

--- Comment #2 from Neil Kandalgaonkar ne...@wikimedia.org 2011-02-14
18:31:04 UTC ---
It should be a feature of core MW, but we are the only project so far that
needs it.

Anyway, to my knowledge, the only way to really know whether a filename is
acceptable or not is to actually try to publish a file with that name. (There
are many different reasons why the server might reject it, and any number of
extensions can use certain hooks. We can't simulate it on the client
effectively.)

This is obviously unacceptable for us, especially since we are working on files
that aren't published yet.

So we will need to write another API method, or, rewrite the appropriate
extensions, to do this properly.

The main extensions I'm aware of are TitleBlacklist and TitleWhitelist.

Works for me, as long as I wait for the page to finish loading. In order to
speed up loading, the scripts have moved to the bottom of the page in 1.17.
This means that the Ajax watch functionality won't be available immediately. Is
he perhaps not waiting for the page to load completely?

octet makes sense on the bit level, though this patch doesn't operate on that
level. It's just exploding the dotted-quad notation and padding the integers.
The use of octet just seemed a bit odd. Probably just personal preference :)

I'm not sure this really has anything to do with Geshi, does it? This would
require previews to use Geshi, is all.
Geshi is an extension, so previews using Geshi would have to be implemented in
Geshi, not in core.
