Aside from the above raw log data collected for general purposes, page visits do not expose a visitor's identity publicly. Sampled raw log data may include the IP address of any user, but it is not reproduced publicly. Contrary to the policy, READING a new wiki is PUBLICLY exposed (on those wikis where a bot reads new user accounts and creates welcome pages) when a user has previously signed in to another wikimedia wiki. I do not consider the option to disable single-sign as a practical solution. A single sign-on to commons, en.wikipedia, de.wikipedia, perhaps mediawiki.org may be desired, but recording chance read-only-visits at any number of other wikis would still be surprising. Solutions: a) fix the software so that user creation occurs only after an edit b) change the privacy policy to read: Reading projects: No more information on users and other visitors reading pages is collected than is typically collected in server logs by web sites. However, when using single-sign on, any visit to a wikimedia site you had not previously visited may be recorded publicly. Per notes & patches on that bug, the preg_match_all() in UtfNormal::quickIsNFCVerify uses a lot of memory for mixed ASCII/non-ASCII strings such as one finds in languages using Latin scripts with accented or other non-ASCII letters. This results in hitting memory limits on largeish input strings, much sooner than we really ought to. What he really wants is an explicit statement there offline saying just what etc. he can remove, or why and what timestamp adjustment he needs, to get his import imported. There are some wiki-specific scripts that piggyback on the geoiplookup to do various types of "geonotices", but I'm not sure if any of those are running anything currently. This bug has been open since 2006 and they've been patiently waiting, and now we're just going to close it because of some rule that might not have even been around when this bug was filed? If it's that big of an issue for you, create separate bugs yourself and then link to them from here. Though that might not be the best idea, since these are all the same kind of change (if you can do one, you can do the others, it's not like "Rob can do this, Roan can do this, but that requires Tim's input") and this has a lot of history/discussion. If consensus doesn't exist on the respective wikis (which I'm not sure it doesn't), I'm not even sure it's necessary. The bug effects everyone using the secure site, regardless of whether there is a fundraiser going on or not. GeoIpLookups are currently done on every page view, even if no banners are running on the wiki. So this bug basically means that our secure site isn't actually secure. It appears I didn't follow some rules for structuring messages appropriately (e.g., put leading newlines in messages). So, while the patches I supplied work on our test wiki, the messages in the patch can't be translated on translatewiki.net. I will have to restructure the code to eliminate these problems. But when not used, we'll now go back to the originally intended behavior that locked accounts are locked.
