Krinkle, I used the skin-independent mw.util.$content variable like you
suggested. I removed the php-generated 'ondblclick' attribute to body and
made a jQuery event listener. This solution works for me.

 Bug #: 28945

1.18
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.18
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Javascript
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: listenle...@gmail.com
CC: tpars...@wikimedia.org
Classification: Unclassified

Before the Compare these two versions button was replaced via JavaScript with
a link there were two keyboard shortcuts, which now no longer work:

* Pressing [Alt] + [Shift] (browser dependend) + [v]
* Pressing Enter

Both used to submit the form and so compare the two selected versions.
While the first just doesn't work, pressing enter sometimes now triggers
revisiondelete unwantedly.

Your weary feelings are not out of place. This part should not really be in
Linker.php as far as I'm concerned. We should do parameter normalization in the
imagehandlers (and I actually just added this for OggHandler, not yet
committed).

I'll try and look further into this, it's a tad of a mess it seems.

Thank you applying the patch.

Yes, the issue arised from the use of the PrototypeJS lib (in SMW+).
I don't know the current effort on transform all prototype scripts to jQuery
but i'm going to ask our dev team about it. All i can say is that upcoming
scripts are mostly implemented in jQuery now.

@Bawolff:
Yes, this recommendation would cover most cases since it skips prototype
members of the object (e.g. added by libraries). But the following code would
still not work as expected:

var a, index;
a = ['a', 'b', 'c'];
a.name = 'MyArray';
for (index in a)  // = WRONG

[Bug 28843] Customizable cite error

--- Comment #1 from Happy-melon happy.melon.w...@gmail.com 2011-05-12

I'm a little rusty on the details after over two years, but as I remember it,
the main problem is that it uses lego messages: each error is defined
separately, and then is injected into [[MediaWiki:Cite error]] (Cite error:
$1). That is a problem for localisation and customisation; but combined with
bug 17865, the cite_error message is called with different parsing rules in
different contexts, which is bad.

The Cite error: prefix should be added to each cite error message
individually, and the wrapper message should be deprecated.

[Bug 28419] Replace MD5 password hashing with WHIRLPOOL

2011-05-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28419

--- Comment #13 from Aryeh Gregor simetrical+wikib...@gmail.com 2011-05-12
14:25:41 UTC ---
(In reply to comment #12)
But given that the whole point is to include a physical barrier to someone
being able to brute-force a stolen database on a GPU cluster or somesuch,
storing a hash of the non-db key in the db turns the problem back into resting
on the preimage security of whatever hash function is used on the key.

We aren't worried about the preimage security of the hash function. No
widely-used cryptographic hash function that I know of has ever had a practical
preimage attack. Even MD4, which is so badly broken that you can generate
collisions *by hand*, has no preimage attack better than 2^102 or so.

What we're worried about is brute-forcing, and you can't brute-force a (for
instance) 40-byte hexadecimal string. That's 2^160 possibilities, which
reduces to 2^80 given birthday attacks, which is wildly impractical. Make it
60 bytes if you like, or 100.

Even if you had a preimage attack, that only gives you *some* preimage. If you
choose a salt that's at least a few bytes longer than the hash, then with
overwhelming probability, the preimage generated by your attack will not be the
same as the actual salt. That makes it useless to an attacker.

Generate the (potentially many) preimages that match the hash (by brute force
 if necessary),

You cannot generate preimages for a cryptographic hash function using brute
force, unless the input is guessable. Many passwords are guessable, or at
least short (which amounts to the same thing), which is why brute-forcing works
at all. A long random string cannot be brute-forced, and can't even be
obtained from vulnerabilities in the hash function (as long as it's a few bytes
longer than the hash itself).

Put another way: if the hash is 256 bits and the salt is 320 bits, then there
will be at least 2^64 possible salts on average that have a given hash. Even
if you had a magic oracle that enumerated all the possible preimages of the
hash of the right length, you'd never be able to try them all. For
perspective, storing that many salts would take up millions of terabytes; and
if you had a 10 GHz CPU that could somehow do one hash execution per clock
cycle, it would take several decades to check all the hashes. If that seems a
little too easy to get, make the salt 1024 bits -- it's not going to affect
execution speed noticeably.

 Having a non-db secret
key only provides a fundamentally *new* layer of protection (as opposed to
 just
an incrementally stronger implementation of the existing security) if no
information at all about it is stored in the database.

Correct. For all intents and purposes, the cryptographic hash of a long random
string provides no information about the string at all. Thus it's fine to
store.

(In crypto terms, the information it provides is negligible. Almost nothing
in crypto gives you better assurances than except with negligible
probability. You could successfully invert an RSA public key in constant
time, too, but only with negligible probability.)

This is all rather off-topic for this particular bug, anyway...

This bug is about replacing MediaWiki's hash function, so it seems quite
germane. Maybe we should make a mediawiki.org page to write up the
conclusions, so people don't have to wade through the discussion to get at
them.

[Bug 19334] Textarea jumps when editing articles unless IE8 compatibility mode is on

2011-05-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #16 from Jeandré jac...@gmail.com 2011-05-12 17:00:51 UTC ---
I've figured out how to replicate it, and I think it's the enhanced editing
toolbar.

Edit a longish page e.g.
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/w/index.php?title=Constitutional_act_of_the_Czech_Republicaction=edit,
click in the edit box, scroll down until you can't see the first lines of the
article anymore, and start editing. When the page finishes loading (I have a
slow connection), the cursor leaves the edit box [when I continue typing
Firefox's search in page comes up (Edit, Preferences, Advanced, General,
Search for text when I start typing is selected)] and the top of the edit box
is shown. The text is now also shown in a wider font.

When I switch off the enhanced editing toolbar and keep the unenhanced toolbar,
the page jumps a bit while following the same procedure for the images for the
unenhanced toolbar, but the cursor stays in the edit box and the font stays the
same.

[Bug 28931] Avoid for ... in loops in SemanticForms.js

--- Comment #4 from Bawolff bawolff...@gmail.com 2011-05-12 19:16:09 UTC ---

 @Bawolff:
Yes, this recommendation would cover most cases since it skips prototype
members of the object (e.g. added by libraries). But the following code would
 still not work as expected:

Well I suppose that varies with your definition of expected. It would behave
how I expect it would, as well as exactly the same as how such constructs
behave in other languages like PHP. A basic for loop is probably always better
when you just want to go through the numeric keys in order.

[Bug 28947] New: The enhanced editing toolbar causes focus to be removed from the edit box.

2011-05-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28947

 Bug #: 28947
Summary: The enhanced editing toolbar causes focus to be
removed from the edit box.
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: Linux
Status: NEW
  Severity: major
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Page editing
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: jac...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified

Using Firefox 3.6.17 under Ubuntu 10.04.

Under My preferences, Editing, select Show edit toolbar (requires
JavaScript) and Enable enhanced editing toolbar.

Edit a long page e.g.
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/w/index.php?title=Constitutional_act_of_the_Czech_Republicaction=edit,
scroll down until you can't see the first lines of the article anymore, put the
cursor in the edit box. When the page finishes loading (you may need a slow
connection to replicate), the cursor leaves the edit box[n] and the top of the
edit box is shown. The text in the edit box is now also shown in a wider font.

Switch off the enhanced editing toolbar and keep the unenhanced toolbar, and
repeat the 3nd paragraph test - the page jumps a bit for the unenhanced
toolbar, but the cursor stays in the edit box where you were editing and the
font stays the same.

[n] when I continue typing, Firefox's search-in-page comes up (Edit,
Preferences, Advanced, General, Search for text when I start typing is
selected)

I agree with Casey. Standardization of list names is a real thing - it's crazy
out of control, and the standardization has helped immensely. If it becomes a
barrier to participation, we could evaluate later, but mostly people are

[Bug 28949] New: \n not escaped in /includes/OutputPage.php

 Bug #: 28949
Summary: \n not escaped in /includes/OutputPage.php
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.16.5
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: trivial
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Special pages
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: mita...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified

Created attachment 8532
  -- https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=8532
patch to swap double and single quotes in /includes/OutputPage.php

There is an unescaped \n because of single quotes on line 1958 in
/includes/OutputPage.php.

It is shown when you lock the database with $wgReadonly (in LocalSettings.php)
and then visit the preferences page - Special:Preferences.

This is what was changed because of bug 19226:
http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/tags/REL1_16_0beta1/phase3/includes/OutputPage.php?r1=61054r2=61055;

bug 19226: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=19226

To fix it 'div class=mw-readonly-error\n$1/div' should be div
class='mw-readonly-error'\n$1/div

OutputPage.php is different in MediaWiki version 1.17.0beta1 and when I
installed it the bug wasn't there.

There is a possible solution as patch.

Cheers.

bugzilla is not a support forum, so I don't see any reason to keep this open)

What is your patch against (you're linking to 1.16.0beta1 - thats a fairly old
version, patches should be against the latest version [trunk]).

Additionally the issue does not appear to be present on current trunk.
