Indeed, and it looks like there might be consensus for removing it altogether
from all.dblist as seen here:

http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Proposals_for_closing_projects/Deletion_of_Moldovan_Wikipedia

so this bug might not even be necessary.

This'll be from the recent code to replace the buttons with clickable links,
and I don't believe it's in 1.17.

The JS code that replaces the button probably needs to copy the accesskey from

In a URL you should encode as %26 directly.

Since bug 14418 the interwiki and fragment of redirects are stored in the
database. It would be nice to see this information when redirects are resolved
automatically in action=query (ApiPageSet.php).

 Resolution|INVALID |

--- Comment #2 from Kelson [Emmanuel Engelhart] emman...@engelhart.org
2011-05-13 11:47:17 UTC ---
IMO this is a problem in the Mediawiki:Collection extension.

zimdump -i -u A/Castlevania: Order of Shadows collection.zim
url: Castlevania: Order of Shadows
title: Castlevania: Order of Shadows
idx: 21
namespace: A
redirect:0
mime-type: text/html
article size:27655

As we can see castelmania in the URL is written with an uppercased first
letter.

So the url A/castlevania: Order of Shadows is wrong, it should be
A/Castlevania: Order of Shadows

The problem is that the ZIM urls are case sensitive (for 'c' letter here)
although the Mediawiki is not (makes ucfirst()).

This is what should also be done IMO in the Extension:collection during the URL
rewrittin part of the process.

As noted at
https://secure.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/w/index.php?title=Commons:Village_pumpoldid=54313750#Template_in_EXIF

Straight text metadata fields appear to get shipped through to the generated
wiki-formatted table as-is, hence expansion of templates etc, either by design
(weird!) or accidentally (could break the table).

Should probably armor raw texts against accidental formatting; but make sure
that the formatting that is *explicitly* applied to various data fields isn't
broken.

Right now, the editing/labs preference section is defined within the WikiEditor
extension. Since we have lots of other labs stuff in the works (that isn't
related to the WikiEditor) and we're hopefully going to keep doing labs stuff
in the future, this prefs section should be defined regardless of whether you
have WikiEditor installed or not. Thus the section (and related hooks, etc.)
should be moved into core.

FYI, according to recent discussions, it looks like WikiEditor itself is
probably not going to moved into core, thus why this is a separate bug.

[Bug 28956] New: Dumps should be incremental

 Bug #: 28956
   Summary: Dumps should be incremental
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: enhancement
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Downloads
AssignedTo: tf...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: te...@riseup.net
Classification: Unclassified

I'm a user who wants to have a complete dump of English Wikipedia (or any other
large wiki-project).

I could download a complete dump every time one was made, but that would be a
lot of bandwidth to use to re-download mostly the same fileset, and it'd be
expensive for both me and the Wikimedia Foundation.

The easiest solution to this that I (in my total ignorance) can see is having a
base archive, and releasing diff archives after that that just have the
changed/added files (like a duplicity backup). These incremental archives would
be a small fraction of the total dump in terms of space and bandwidth, and
would make keeping a dump current much easier.

This issue has been validated through qualitative user testing, where observed
users were frequently confused which section an edit link was related to, and
often times users did not see the link at all.

Recently a quantitative test was performed on English Wikipedia, which measured
the click-through rates between displaying the section edit link on the
opposite side of the content area as the heading, and showing them next to the
heading and displaying an icon next to the link. Users who were given section
edit links near the heading were 117% more likely to use them, and about 10%
more likely to complete an edit.

There seem to be some differences with $wgHtml5 on vs off; on wikipedia sites
it's still off but it's on by default on new installations.

Both seem to have jquery 1.4.4 currently, so the native jquery behavior
shouldn't be different... I think it's actually the 'type=text' attribute
being dropped in $wgHtml5 mode.

 Proposed patch

The proposed patch (rooted in the WikiEditor extension) moves the code to
resize div.sections in a place where it is always executed (and not just when
sections are added). If only sections are added, uses the old way with
$.animate() to change the height; otherwise, just changes the height without
 any animation.

Thanks for figuring out what the problem was and providing a patch. I applied
it in r87979

It would be good to have an add documentation button in addition to the

Adding a bajillion of these everywhere we do a Content-Type header is very
uggy... creating a wrapper function to add X-Content-Type-Options whenever we
do a Content-Type would still mean changing all those and reminding people to
use it in future.

Might actually be best to just stick it once in WebStart.php -- it'll always be
set! :P

[Bug 28868] display page count (of the multi-paged media file) in dimensions

@Bawolff, thanks for cc'ing!
In r88006, I removed the page number in longdesc for PagedTiffHandler and put
in the total count of pages, which should fix this bug.

However, there are things to consider:
* I know of multipage tiffs where height and width vary over the pages. At the
moment, in the short description, the resolution of the first page is used, and
in long description, the resolution of the currently shown page is used. I
couldn't think of a better solution, so if you have any thoughts...
* There is no real indicator any more on which page you are when viewing a
multipage image. There is the correct page number next to Go to page, but,
obviously, the label says something different. I suggest we put a text above,
saying Current page with the page number and set the number next to go to
page to the next page.

What do you think?

You mean request documentation? How would you automatically identify in

svn annotate will easily find the last revision to touch a line of code. IIRC,
git annotate does the same thing.

For non-mw software, maybe have a way that such software could provide an email
destination, then send them an email with the committee name and and revision
number that the change was made in.

Probably a way to put in a URL that Translate could trigger would work for both
MW software and other software.

 Asking Kaldari for info

Should at the very least surface license info from Flickr.

I trust he'll know what to do with it when such enhancements ever make it into
implementation. Flinfo is a tool to extract image information (including
license and the stuff I mentioned in the OP) for images stored at other image
repositories. It currently supports Flickr, ipernity, panoramio, and Picasa.
Flinfo lives at http://wikipedia.ramselehof.de/flinfo.php
running actually V2.4a (no phpFlickr library anymore; it's quirky). The newest
source is at http://wikipedia.ramselehof.de/flinfo/resources/src/

I just updated the V2.3 zip file here because I found a few bugs shortly after
I'd posted it.

Hello RobH.

Sorry for reporting site requests to you by default, I thought I sould act like
that.

No, I don't really want botadmin to be able to manage botadmin status... I was
thinking of the solution proposed on comment #5. I just want users having the
botadmin account to have the possibility of removing their access by themselves
without disturbing a 'crat, or worse, a steward.

Thanks by advance.

[Bug 28962] New: ajax calls with '.' not working in IE

Due to the security fix (bug 28534, bug 28639) all ajax calls with a '.' have
problems in IE:

- It is not possible to watch/unwatch a page with '.' (like skin.js/.css)
- Search suggestion shows no pages, if you search for a page with '.'
- the link insertion dialog (Extension WikiEditor) give no suggestion for links
with a '.'

solution:
- Encode the '.' in ajax requests (%2E)
- allow at least one '' behind the '.' That does not helps for all ajax calls,
but some of them.

Thanks.

This is not bug 28840, because the bug tracks the problems with the ressource
loader (stylesheets, scripts).

[Bug 28951] Everything is striked on the page with list of the votes for a closed bug

The skin for those pages is a little messed up. It starts like:

 span class=bz_closeda href=show_bug.cgi?id=3197 title=RESOLVED INVALID
- The following pages link to this file:!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC -//W3C//DTD
HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN
  http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd;
html
  head

(That's right, the span comes before the doctype. That span is what has the
strikethrough css)

I think it's safe to say we're done here. Though the bots will likely continue
to fix them, our readers will no longer encounter the pervasive problem with
double redirects. With the fix in place, I suggest that if anyone wants to add
a comment, they should also reopen this bug.

SVN annotate is slow. On the other hand it is pretty easy to find the i18n file
where the message comes from.

[Bug 28963] add langbacklinks module to api

2011-05-13 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28963

--- Comment #1 from Reedy s...@reedyboy.net 2011-05-13 21:27:33 UTC ---
--
-- Track interlanguage links
--
CREATE TABLE /*_*/langlinks (
-- page_id of the referring page
ll_from int unsigned NOT NULL default 0,

-- Language code of the target
  ll_lang varbinary(20) NOT NULL default '',

-- Title of the target, including namespace
  ll_title varchar(255) binary NOT NULL default ''
) /*$wgDBTableOptions*/;

CREATE UNIQUE INDEX /*i*/ll_from ON /*_*/langlinks (ll_from, ll_lang);
CREATE INDEX /*i*/ll_lang ON /*_*/langlinks (ll_lang, ll_title);

It seems we're probably missing an index or 2 to be able to do do all these
possible combinations nicely...

Though, looking at the IWBacklinks module, if you're wanting to filter on
title, you've got to provide a prefix (in this case language)

Probably not going to be that bad, by putting some common restrictions
