This is already possible. There is one limitation though: articles in
subcategories aren't added recursively.

Start the book creator and go to
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:Chemistry . Then you can Add this
category to your book.

I've created a new tool to help fix this bug, at:

Very nice. This is basically the same approach that I used when writing pngds a
few years earlier. Wikimedia needs to determine what is the way forward. Aside
from the two specialized PNG scalers in this bug, there is also VIPS (bug
28135) which would solve this problem.

[Bug 30526] New: Special:Import ignores several (masked) signs

 Bug #: 30526
Summary: Special:Import ignores several (masked) signs
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Export/Import
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: niem...@ontoprise.de
Classification: Unclassified

Created attachment 8965
  -- https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=8965
Wikipedia article

Import of arbitrary articles (eg wikipedia, see attachment)
ignores several signs (,,lt; etc.) and thus produces wrong layout and/or
lacks functionality (e.g. references, headings and everything else stored as
html-tags).

Import has to accept at least the masked variants (eg. lt;) and put them as
they are into the produced wiki article.

[Bug 27540] width of gallery always 100%

2011-08-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=27540

--- Comment #26 from foma...@googlemail.com 2011-08-23 09:04:30 UTC ---
The HTML5 idea of a caption is the element figcaption:
http://www.w3.org/TR/html5/grouping-content.html#the-figcaption-element .
figcaption can be used as the first or last child of a figure element. figure
with figcaption can also used for other things besides images.

I think we should drop the attribut caption for gallery and add a new
capability to create a universal caption with full [[wiki markup]] for
galleries and other situations.

Roan disabled the extension for now, and it works again. I hope we can find a
solution asap.

It works on a localhost 1.17wmf1 checkout, with a few other extension enabled.
Maybe the extension conflicts with other extensions enabled on Incubator.

Just a note to say please make sure that the XML dump version number is bumped
at the same time a dump feature is added so that dump parsers that need to work
with all dump versions can enable support for features based on the version
number. It can make the code faster and the version number wasn't changed when
the redirect tag was added.

Another option which may be useful for editors when analyzing the ratings was
mentioned on a thread on MW.org [1]: getting data from specific categories
(this could be used by specific wikiprojects).

So, in the list of options above, it could also be added something like this:

Consider ratings from:

[Bug 30486] Under mw 1.17wmf1 Maps reports Maps requires MediaWiki 1.17 or above

2011-08-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #7 from Gregor Hagedorn g.m.haged...@gmail.com 2011-08-23
12:24:43 UTC ---
Thank you, Jeroen for your help. Sadly, while mw 1.17wmf is basically working
well after some manual additions, the way the /maintenance (and database
upgrade) scripts have been changed in 1.17wmf specifically for the wikimedia
setup prevents us from using this version (we did try to replace them with 1.17
or 1.18, neither version of /maintenance is compatible with 1.17wmf). So
indeed, 1.17wmf cannot be used.

Presently there seems to be no way to have an agile software version through a
SVN checkout. The stable release are hugely outdated, lacking a large number
of features that are live on the Wikipedias. It feels strange to have to depend
on an Encyclopedia-Britannica-like classical software release cycle... :-) I
have submitted enhancement request bug 30519 in this spirit, but pragmatically
we will try to help fixing the bugs in 1.18.

[Bug 30527] New: Blacklist PHP 5.3.7

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30527

   Web browser: ---
 Bug #: 30527
   Summary: Blacklist PHP 5.3.7
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Installation
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: raimond.spekk...@gmail.com
CC: innocentkil...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified

Per http://www.php.net/archive/2011.php#id2011-08-22-1 it should be wise to
blacklist PHP 5.3.7 because of an issue with MD5:

https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=55439 : If crypt() is executed with MD5 salts,
the return value conists of the salt only. DES and BLOWFISH salts work as
expected.

On the page Special:Ask no $-JavaScript code is functioning and hence no search
suggestion completion will work. We use Semantic MediaWiki r93922 or
(http://offene-naturfuehrer.de/web/Spezial:Semantische_Suche) or r95304 on a
testwiki (http://biowikifarm.net/test/Special:Ask) and it is on both wikis. The
only workaround for this seems currently to restore $ on the
MediaWiki:Common.js page:

if(typeof $ ===undefined){$ = jQuery;}

I think on
http://svn.wikimedia.org/viewvc/mediawiki/trunk/extensions/SemanticMediaWiki/specials/AskSpecial/SMW_SpecialAsk.php?revision=94774view=markup
line 221 the…

jQuery.noConflict();

I just have noticed that almost only the query 'list=allpages' module doesn't
support multiple namespaces for the 'apnamespace' parameter. For most other
modules there can be several namespaces separated by '|'. This could come quite
handy for 'allpages' as well. It would allow to get pages of several
namespaces, i.e. from all talk-namespaces, way faster.

This is also not implemented in 'list=deletedrevs' and off course
'action=import' (where it makes perfectly sense this way).
Also in 'list=alllinks', don't know whether it would make much sense there.

This could be implemented for allpages's normal mode, but wouldn't make much
sense: it would still sort by namespace first, then title (sorting in any other
way would make for a very inefficient query) so you'd get something like

Aaron
Adam
Bar
Foo
...
Zulu
Talk:Aaron
...
Talk:Zulu
User:Aaron

And that doesn't make too much sense. Using multiple namespaces with apfrom and
apprefix would definitely be inefficient.

Closing as WONTFIX for performance reasons.

Looks like there's a trim() in WebInstaller::setVarsFromRequest which is the
likely culprit.

It does have some special handling for fields with 'password' in the name (I
think to obfuscate them in the session data?), so perhaps we could move the
trim() down to the non-password handling.

Following
[http://lists.wikimedia.org/pipermail/wikien-l/2008-February/089554.html this]
it is impossible to delete/move the main page (well, to view the confirmation
screen) on any Wikimedia wiki, and it renders the following error message: 'You
can't delete or move the main page' (see
[http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Try_to_delete_the_main_page.png here]).
However, when a non-admin tries to perform this action, the message is somewhat
malformed - see [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Main_page_errors.png]. I
understand if this is closed as WONTFIX, as it is very trivial and will hardly
ever be noticed.

[Bug 30520] qunit tests for wrong expected results do not fail on certain browsers ( false positive ). Should say test fails on all browsers

So... it doesn't seem to be a false positive, as far as I can tell it's a true
positive.

What makes it look like a false positive exactly, Tom?

Your expected text *is* bogus, but gets parsed the way we'd reasonably expect:

nowiki/span this wrong tag is not detected as test failure in Firefox 6.0
or Chrome/nowiki

gets parsed into the expected actual structure:

  nowiki/span/nowiki

which of course matches the

  nowiki/span/nowiki

that we'd expect. This doesn't look like a useful test case at all; are you
trying to test the browser's HTML fragment parser? This won't be exercised in
real usages -- you're not even testing on the output, you're testing on your
given sample text.

Recommend removing these test cases for being useless.

Removed them in r95315.

Thomas, if you need to do quick 'supposed to fail' test case, be sure to put in
something that won't normalize back to the real expected value. For instance
add some new elements, or add some text nodes which will be preserved after
HTML parsing.

But of course don't commit such a test case, since you wouldn't want failing
test cases for no reason.

Some issues:

* no matching update to XML schema version definition
* redirect lookup _may_ not be fully synchronized with the page data snapshot
* what does this do in the null case? No field or empty field? If this is an
implicit choice, it should probably be made more explicit.
* relies on implicit string conversion of Title object which... appears to give
text formatting by default. Wouldn't hurt to make this explicit.

I was worried this could lead to some style flicker, but since we seem to have
put the page startup module very early on now there's nothing to render yet at
the time we change the class. Probably ok then. :D

Thank you for contributing a patch to MediaWiki, however it would appear that a
developer has fixed this particular issue in r94419. If you feel that this
doesn't solve the issue, please reopen the bug.

However, for future reference it's best not to explicitly do checks to work
with older versions. If a person needs a copy of an extension to work with
their version of MediaWiki we have snapshots available to download though

This is because of standards vs. almost standards mode, triggered by the
doctype difference. It's why we need to switch to HTML5 across the board and
tweak everything to work right in standards mode, then kill XHTML 1.0
Transitional support. Supporting both modes will be too much of a hassle.
There will be a number of minor rendering differences like this, but nothing
should be a big deal and they can be dealt with as they're reported during the
transition phase, IMO.

Thank you very much for the patch you contributed, it has been applied with
some modifications in r95320 . Mainly, when adding configuration options it's
important to add them to DefaultSettings.php so they can be accounted for and
documented. Also, MediaWiki has some specific guidelines about code formatting
which are documented here:
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Coding_conventions

But thank you for providing a bug report and patch for us, it benefits
everyone. Hope to see more in the future from you :)

When a page that has noinclude in it is used as editintro=, even the content
inside noinclude tags is also shown as part of the editintro message.
Editintro should obey noinclude and includeonly tags. This is illogical and
should be changed.

Will add an example later.

--- Comment #2 from darklama darkl...@gmail.com 2011-08-23 20:09:04 UTC ---
No. An unregistered module needs to inject a request and let
the load system know we want to know about any future modules
that are registered by the given name, so it can call the
ready or error callback when an attempt to load the module is
finally made and either succeeds or fails.

mw.loader.using could presumably return true if at the time
it is called all requested modules are registered or false
otherwise.

This should be fixable simply by throwing a .replace('+', '%20') into
getParamValue() in mediawiki.util.js before the decodeURIComponent.

Per spec, encodeURIComponent/decodeURIComponent work with the %20 form -- which
is what's always used in URI path components -- so if you want to handle '+'s
(traditionally used in query string form encoding) you have to do that as an
additional step.

--- Comment #3 from darklama darkl...@gmail.com 2011-08-23 20:36:15 UTC ---
To explain a bit more,

mw.loader.using might be called before:

1. One or more modules are known about.
2. Any dependencies are known about.
3. Dependencies have reached ready or error status.
4. One or more modules have reached ready or error status.

mw.loader.using might be called after:

5. Some modules are known about and others are not.
6. Some dependencies are known about and others are not.
7. Some dependencies have reached ready status and others have not.
8. Some dependencies have reached error status.
9. All modules and dependencies have reached ready status.

1 through 7 require deferred checking until 8 or 9 is true. 8 can
call the error callback immediately. 9 can call the ready callback
immediately.

Hmm, definitely wrong to add rel=author to *all* user links -- this would be a

At a minimum it needs some kind of back-reference to what you're talking about
the author *of*, surely, and that information isn't available to

[Bug 30532] New: Provide a way to avoid conversion of r999 to a link on bugzilla

 Bug #: 30532
Summary: Provide a way to avoid conversion of r999 to a link on
bugzilla
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal

 Component: Bugzilla
AssignedTo: mhershber...@wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: mybugs.m...@gmail.com
CC: innocentkil...@gmail.com, s...@reedyboy.net
Classification: Unclassified

I would like to have some way to avoid the conversion of r20 to a link for a
code revision (something similar to a nowiki tag) in specific parts of a bug
report (such as [1]).

Is that possible?

Notice that in my previous comment there is an r1 which shouldn't be
converted at all, since it is not a word. A regular expression such as
\br(\d+)\b would match only the desired cases, I think (although I don't know
if the conversion of links is done by means of regexes - BTW: where can I find
the source code of this?).

(I don't remember if I've already requested this on bugzilla. Sorry if it is a
dupe...)

Some time ago it was added a tooltip to the r999 links containing a summary of
the corresponding revision. This is cool!

I think it would be very useful to have this kind of tooltips also for bugzilla
links, displaying the summary of the bug (to avoid opening a link just to read
its title).

The Semantic MediaWiki people have standardized to call this universal caption
parameter intro in all their parameter settings. Whenever there's a leading
title caption thing, regardless of what it's on, you always set it with the
intro parameter.

[Bug 30270] Gallery unnecessary margins and paddings

You can see it in action here:

http://www.coincompendium.com/wiki/index.php/CC1308090139386366

user: Demo
pass: dedauw

If I remember correctly, the image caption Put a short description here was
wrapping unnecessarily with the unnecessary margins and padding. And, it lines
up on the left correctly. Otherwise, it looks identical. It really is a minor
change, with no unexpected behavior expected :)

That seems to eliminate all padding, including any padding within the gray
background area between the edge of the background and the start of the text;
this doesn't look very good to me.

The existing padding gives a little space between the edge of the gray
background and the start of the text, which looks good to me; I'd be inclined
to keep it.

Note embedding {{special:listfiles/username}} works fine on trunk (I think it
was fixed on 1.18). (however that's not your feature request).

It looks like from a quick look at the source that adding a filter by user
parameter to special:newfiles would be fairly straight forward...
