[Bug 31241] New: Oracle Schema: ON DELETE SET NULL with several tables bring error on deletes
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31241 Web browser: --- Bug #: 31241 Summary: Oracle Schema: ON DELETE SET NULL with several tables bring error on deletes Product: MediaWiki Version: 1.19-svn Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: Database AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: doktor_dolit...@gmx.de Classification: Unclassified When you want to delete a page in an Mediawiki running on Oracle, you get the following error: 1407: ORA-01407: cannot update ("SCHEMANAME"."RECENTCHANGES"."RC_CUR_ID") to NULL“. So therefore I checked the database schema for Oracle and found out, that e.g. the RC_CUR_ID column is not allowed to NULL, but upon on delete of the foreign key data, it should be set to NULL. I found this definition for the following tables: - archive - filearchive - image - ipblocks - logging - oldimgae - recentchanges In the Postgre schmema I saw that these columns are allowed to be NULL. Maybe th columns for Oracle could be changed that way, or they will be set to the a default on delete? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 31240] New: Android browsers render content poorly when viewing desktop view with .m
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31240 Web browser: --- Bug #: 31240 Summary: Android browsers render content poorly when viewing desktop view with .m Product: MediaWiki extensions Version: any Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: MobileFrontend AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: tf...@wikimedia.org CC: prei...@wikimedia.org, tf...@wikimedia.org Classification: Unclassified I'm the Product Manager responsible for the Android Browser and during some recent testing of how top sites perform we've noticed a peculiarity with Wikipedia which means some users don't get the best experience on Android devices. I think there's a way to fix this, which I hope won't be too difficult or onerous to implement. A quick example - let's consider the article at http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/NASA When a user visits that URL on an Android phone they are automatically served the mobile version - that's the good news. The problem arises, however, when such a user clicks to "View on regular wikipedia" - the regular wikipedia page is poorly formatted on the screen. This isn't anything to do the content you serve (which is just fine) - it's caused by the .m. in the hostname and down to a workaround we added to the browser some time ago. Previous versions of the Android browser included logic designed to control the viewport for pages served from what looked like mobile-specific domains (e.g. en.m.wikipedia.org - we take the .m. to signify mobile) by forcing it to be the same as the width of the device's screen. This means that when an Android device receives desktop-style HTML from an m.blah.net host (for example), even though the browser can render it, our workaround kicks in and the result is almost always a poorly-formatted page for the user. Although we plan to remove this logic from the next Android release there are still many millions of Android-using Wikipedia fans who would get a better experience if Wikipedia were to only serve desktop pages from en.wikipedia.org rather than from (e.g.) en.m.wikipedia.org. We would really appreciate you considering and implementing this change to improve the user experience of Wikipedia on Android devices. [Bug 30743] Namespace Alias alternatives for fa.wiki
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30743 --- Comment #15 from Huji 2011-09-29 02:06:29 UTC --- There are two separate issues being discussed here. One has nothing to do with *this* bug (deserves its own thread), the other is exactly what was asked in the beginning (ref. the title of the bug). After all this discussion, I think it is reasonable to create aliases for the default namespaces using all permutations of frequently used non-standard characters, as follows: Current namespace name for User namespace: کاربر (it uses the standard letter ک) Aliases: كاربر (it uses non standard letter ك) Current namespace name for Wikipedia namespace: ویکیپدیا (it uses the standard letters ک and ی) Aliases: (all permutations using one or more non-standard letters) ويکيپديا (uses non-standard ي) ویكیپدیا (uses non-standard ك) ويكيپديا (uses non-standard ك and ي) If you show me the relevant part of the config file (a link to noc.wikimedia.org ?) I can attach and send the whole code for all namespaces that need aliases. Once these aliases are implemented, this bug can be closed. Discussion about whether or not the search feature should also be modified to support non-standard characters is beyond the scope of this bug. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28613 --- Comment #102 from Bawolff 2011-09-29 01:16:44 UTC --- Something odd that I'm not sure is related or not: If $wgInternalServer does not contain a protocol (For example $wgInternalServer = 'foo';) Image purges end up having http: prefixed to that, while normal page purges don't. Not directly related (Since wikimedia should have a protocol in wgInternalServer i believe), but kind of odd, and suggests the code differs between normal purges and image purges in ways it perhaps shouldn't. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28613 --- Comment #101 from Bawolff 2011-09-29 00:55:37 UTC --- btw, for images that are displayed directly on the image page. Perhaps its some sort of race condition. If the order of events happen to be: User uploads new version of image, squid purge goes out, user gets redirected to the image page, (old version of) images get back into squid cache (from user loading image page), MediaWiki replaces the original image with the new version. the result would be consistent with some of the symptoms shown here (at least in terms of the version in the image history being wrong). Is it possible for the events to take place in that order? (I was uploading a new version of an image on my testwiki, and noticed the loaded page had old version on it, which made me think of that) (in case its useful to anyone else, I've been testing mediawiki's htcp support on my local install using the command: while true; do echo | nc -l -p 4827 -u -q 0|hd; done. (which sort of works, but needs to have a delay added to mw) So far the result seems to be images are purged a lot more often then I would expect them to be, but I need to double check to see if that's unexpected ) -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31219 --- Comment #2 from Daniel Friesen 2011-09-28 23:18:36 UTC --- Hmmm... wmf may not have been using footerlinks and may have instead been using a custom skin hack that got un-done when upgraded. - The contact us should be added in with the SkinTemplateOutputPageBeforeExec hook by modifying $tpl->data['footerlinks'][???]. - Wikimedia also seams to display: block; the copyright and if visible lastmod line, the monobook css should be tweaked in some wmf specific place (typically the proper place for this would be a wiki's site-css but in wmf's case this applies to all wmf wikis but no default-mw wikis so some wmf common stylesheet is the proper thing here). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. When starting the screen with a small window and then opening the page does make it animate to the drop down btw. A site-wide set defined and outputted by ResourceLoader's startup module (i.e. wgSiteName, wgLoadScript, wgScriptPath, etc.). And one that is page specific (skin, wgPageName, wgUserName etc.). The latter is hardcoded in OutputPage->getJSVars. Although it can be extended by extensions through the MakeGlobalVariablesScript, it's still annoying to have to define these variables in the hooks file instead of in, for example, the SpecialPage class itself. Another problem is access to the current context's Title object. I added $out to the hook in r96015 (which has getTitle()) but that only makes it a little but nicer. the hard coded array should be an object member that can be extended via an add*() method. That way a SpecialPage (or for example ProtectionForm - poke bug 31230), can simply do $out->addThingy('wgFoo, 'bar') -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 31210] Transclude image description from Wikimedia Commons into [[File:]] caption on Wikipedias
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31210 Derk-Jan Hartman changed: What|Removed |Added CC||hart...@videolan.org --- Comment #1 from Derk-Jan Hartman 2011-09-28 21:23:26 UTC --- This is a bad semantic connection that you are making I think. Defining a default caption is a possibility, but it definitely should NOT be the image description (which can be hundreds of words at times). The description is a very bad default caption (where one describes, the other summarizes). If such a feature would ever be implemented, there would more likely be a separate "default caption" property added somewhere. There is also the issue of multiple languages of the different wikipedias adding complexity and most languages would never have a default caption for most images probably. (Last assessment based on the fact that most images currently only have English descriptions) Next to that, a default caption in the eyes of many is a bad idea in the first place, because a caption should be relevant to not only the image, but also towards the text that is surrounding the image. Many images are used many times for different purposes, and to do that with a single caption is bad article writing. Making a careful assessment about what you put into a caption on every single usage of an image, will eventually lead to better written articles I think. Many people who have suggested this feature in the past on village pumps etc, see it as something that would save time. In my personal view, it is doubtful wether it actually would save time in the grand scheme of things (wikipedias in a couple of hundred languages), but also, I fear that the quality of the captions inside the articles will worsen because of the feature. Having said that, there are specific use cases that might benefit by doing this in a slightly different way perhaps. I'm thinking about the Image insertion dialogs/wizards for instance. But it could be difficult to implement that without running into the same pitfalls as detailed above ... https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=31227 --- Comment #1 from Brion Vibber 2011-09-28 20:57:12 UTC --- A single newline in input text terminates a line, but doesn't terminate a paragraph in MediaWiki's wiki text format (and never has), so changing this could be a compatibility issue and cause pages to render incorrectly. Various sequences with templates, tables etc will also be assuming that the linebreak is ok as whitespace and might be modified unpleasantly by just inserting a into output there, so not sure how trivial it would be to do. You can insert an explicit in your input to force a visible line break within a paragraph, though. The extension tag can also be used to insert line breaks at source newline boundaries within a paragraph. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
