[Bug 32189] links to oldwikisource work like ordinary links instead of interwiki links

2011-11-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32189

--- Comment #7 from Beau b...@adres.pl 2011-11-06 08:38:30 UTC ---
If be.wikisource.org is created, the link won't have to be replaced, because
the content will be moved to be.wikisource.org, right?

There might be more than one language version on oldwikisource and that is
easily solved using this approach. The page can have multiple links like that:
[[aa:xxx]], [[be:yyy]].

The first one will be visible as Qafár af and will be pointing to
https://wikisource.org/xxx. The second one will be visible as Беларуская and
will be pointing to https://wikisource.org/yyy. No additional hacks are
required, because this will work like a normal interwikis.

I'm not sure piggybacking on $wgMiserMode is a good idea here. Lots of

Now it is $wgAllowSchemaUpdates.

Yes, but this system does not work with generic oldwikisource pages, like the
ones in namespace Wikisource:. Also, this fake interwikis cannot be maintained
automatically with pywikipedia.

I really don't understand why we are always using some workaround, instead of
just fixing what's broken...

[Bug 32206] Choose whether showing namespace prefix when using values from ...

2011-11-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #4 from Toni Hermoso Pulido toni...@softcatala.org 2011-11-06
13:34:44 UTC ---
(In reply to comment #3)
 Hi,

Thinking about it more, I remember my rationale for doing it this way: for
values from namespace, there's no point including the namespace, since it's
known. It's true that this makes backwards-compatibility an issue, but
hopefully that can be fixed using either Replace Text or an #if call in the
 template.

For values from concept and the like, not including the namespace is risky,
because there can be two pages with the same name, but in different
 namespaces.

You are right in both cases. I was suggesting this simply as an optional
enhancement for form inputs (as a parameter: don't show, or show in case of
'value from namespaces', prefix namespace). Of course, users should be aware of
the risks in the second case and this should be included in documentation.

I haven't check the code to see how difficult this could be.

--- Comment #9 from Beau b...@adres.pl 2011-11-06 13:41:14 UTC ---
It makes sens to me that if I want a link to be-page I will use [[be:xxx]] and
if I want a link to aa-page I will use [[aa:xxx]]. Using oldwikisource in this
cases look like ugly workaround for me and it makes it harder for average user
to understand. And if content is moved from oldwikisource to be.wikisource no
changes are required on other wikis as long as the page title is not changed in
the process. Only prefix needs to be updated.

If you want an interwiki prefix for oldwikisource just use for example 's', as
it is unused right now.

Unfortunately, neither Alexander's patch nor Brion's patch applies cleanly to
trunk (Alexander, I am very sorry that no one reviewed your patch when you
wrote it four years ago). Does anyone want to try writing a new patch that
incorporates Alexander's and possibly Juliano's ideas?

Also adding the design keyword since a visual designer might be interested in
providing a more elegant solution.

Maybe it's time we ditch the whole table based categories and start using
css3's multicolumn features.

It's supported in Gecko and WebKit for ages, Opera has added support, and IE 10
now has support for it. The fallback in browsers without support is simply the
category data in one column instead of 3, which still looks perfectly good and
is completely accessible to the user. And if we really want column support in
browsers that don't support the native css yet, there's a js library for that.

This patch has a few deficiencies:
1) It doesn't take table prefixes into account.
2) It counts the exact number of people watching the page FOR EVERY ROW in
result set while you only need to know whether this number is equal to zero or
not.
3) Depnding on how much slower are subqueries after (2) is resolved, you may
need to go as far as introduce a rc_watched column to cache these results.

Umherirrender, thank you for your patch! I'm sorry it has taken so long for us
to respond.

Yes, now that your patch is in plain text rather than RTF, we can read it and
try to apply it. :-) Unfortunately, in the past year, trunk has changed, and
your patch no longer applies cleanly to Subversion trunk. Could you possibly
update it? Thanks!

Adding the design keyword since this change has to do with designing an
informative user interface.

gdonato, I am sorry that it took so very long for you to get a response to your
patch. Thank you for your contribution. We are aiming at being much more
responsive now and in the future.

Unfortunately, your patch now does not cleanly apply to trunk, since there have

updating it?

Also, you may be interested in joining the parser/visual editor mailing list to

I am agreeing with S. McCandlish that this issue is a subset of the issues
discussed in bug #1584, so I am marking this a duplicate of that.

Also, I'm removing the need-review keyword and adding the reviewed keyword,
because Aryeh reviewed the submitted patch by saying: The patch will also
break existing behavior by continuing a list item where currently the entire
list is ended.

This issue also bothers me, so I'm going to add myself to the cc list for bug
#1584 and I suggest you do the same, if you haven't already. Brion Vibber and
Gabriel Wicke are currently working on rewriting the parser to fix issues like
this one, hence the newparser keyword on this bug and on bug #1584 -- to
follow their work, subscribe to
https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikitext-l .

Sorry if this is in the wrong category. Pages opened on vi.wikipedia.org and
vi.wikibooks.org using firefox will flash the page contents momentarily before
going to a blank loading page. I have this problem for all pages on the
Vietnamese sites. It's possible that the problem is linked to the VNI/telex
input system. Wikipedia sites in other languages work fine, just the
Vietnamese one seems to have this problem. The pages work fine in other
browsers (ie, safari, etc...). This problem may be on my end, but I've read a
few Vietnamese blogs of people having this same problem, so I wanted to share
this bug.

[Bug 18852] Support inline player for MIDI files

On Commons and other Mediawiki Wikis, there are uploads of MIDI files,

However, to play these 'in-browser' currently requires a non-free plugin (such
as Quicktime)

By providing an 'inline' player for Midi (possibly based on Java) this
dependence on a non-free plugin would be reduced.

One possible solution, but this would involve some work, is for the server side
to do a one-shot rendering of MIDI files into a format like OGG (using
something like FluidSynth and a suitable 'free' sample set).

A second solution would be to have a specific inline MIDI plugin.

The third solution is the current one, whereby the MIDI file is offered for
download to an external player.

For now, I'm only proposing localizing for most languages that use the Latin
alphabet, because requiring users to respond to a captcha in Thai or Arabic
would exclude a lot of legitimate interwiki users.

We also could use the uselang attribute (and user setting) instead of locale,
then this wouldn't be a problem. But I guess the bigger problem then is to find
a captcha generator for exotic alphabets.

It is bad for IP users when you link to redirects because
they often see a old version, ~ 5 days ago (open a new bug?).

Thats the wrong argument. A problem like that should be solved by improving the

This would make live (and coding) very much easier. When you got redirected,
the only evidence for that is the html content of the contentSub element. Very
ugly to detect by js in different skins and languages.

Another possibility would be to give the a element in the contentSub an id,
but I think the first approach is cleaner.

Example where that could be needed? To hide Template:Redirect (and its
interwiki equivalents) when you got *not* redirected.

--- Comment #15 from Van de Bugger van.de.bug...@gmail.com 2011-11-06
19:12:04 UTC ---
So I propose having a setting such as $smwgaPageSpecialProperties,
which holds modification date, creation date, and any other special props
 applying to pages.

So, what the bottomline? Should I rename $smwgSpecialProperties to
$smwgPageSpecialProperties and implement disabling Modification date in order
to get the patch applied?

[Bug 32000] Display comment preview instead of an error on session failure

--- Comment #1 from Juliano F. Ravasi b...@juliano.info 2011-11-06 20:02:16

Hello Vitaliy,

Your patch is already in my patch queue, but before submitting, I would like to
understand better in which situations this bug trigger, since I can't reproduce
it here.

To get an edit token in the comment form to submit a comment, the user needs to
have a session with MediaWiki. This session is either anonymous, or it is a
user login session created at login time. This session either ends with the
browser session, or after 30 days.

In theory, the user shouldn't have a session failure under normal
circumstances. If he got an edit token from the comment form, that edit token
should be valid along with his session until he closes the browser.

I want to be careful applying code that touches the session handling code due
to the danger of creating a [[w:Cross-site scripting]] vulnerability. But at
first glance your patch seems good.

Could you provide some more detailed steps on how to reproduce this problem
with the current version of MediaWiki?

--- Comment #18 from fastgoldf...@gmail.com 2011-11-06 21:20:48 UTC ---
I marked bug 30784 as a duplicate of this one, even though it's older, because
progress is being made on this one. However, the info in the older report is
useful, so I'm copying it below. The older report was marked as a blocker for
the reasons described, so I'm marking this one as a blocker too. I'm not sure
it makes much difference either way, but feel free to change that status back
to enhancement if that is preferred. Here's the text of the older report:

This bug report is an element of this one, for needed metaproperties:

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30610

and it is a blocker for this one, for existence and uniqueness validation:

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30537

Without a creation date property, it is not currently possible to use a
workaround to check for duplicates without also marking the original as a
duplicate. Being able to find the oldest page creation date makes it possible
to allow that original page to not be marked as a duplicate, while all
subsequent pages are marked as duplicates.

An inaccurate manually created page creation date property can be employed as a
workaround for the problem, but it is only able to record the date that the
form was loaded, not the actual creation date of the resulting page produced by
the form.

In order to do this for all pages, as reported in bug 30537, a creation date
metaproperty is required, and very probably should be in SMW core instead of an
extension, due to its blocker nature.

Once a creation date metaproperty becomes available in the core, bug 30537 can
be fixed.

Also, I forgot to mention that the workaround for this bug requires caching to
be disabled on the wiki, at least for form pages. That makes the workaround
very inadequate for most people, since there are not many ways to do that
reliably without causing other problems on the wiki.

Not so substantive, it's not as if it was a valid title before.
Although I agree it is wrong to show a Special page error, the right behavior
was the old one (The requested page title was invalid, empty, or an
incorrectly linked inter-language or inter-wiki title. It may contain one or
more characters which cannot be used in titles. ).

That URL *was* substantive. It transcluded

Basically, Wiki.php uses a fake special page named 'Badtitle' when there is a
bad title provided, but instead of being shown, in REL1_18 it redirects.

Going back through the revs it doesn't appear this is the result of the
Wiki.php related RequestContext changes... There is a gap in the revs where
some bad code as a result of the RequestContext changes leaves bad titles with
a php error due to some things not passing a proper Title instance. But before
the RequestContext stuff and after that gap the Bad title functionality is
still working.

Your logic for the user cannot create any pages seems incomplete. I'm not
really comfortable with it.

[Bug 31792] Mediawiki losing old file versions upon undeletion in MW 1.18

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:AlleeR%C3%BCgen1.jpg and
https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Wappen_des_Landkreises_Donau-Ries.png
have lost revisions, but they were never deleted.

For Fliegenkäfer01.JPG, you mean that the 20070806 version is not available and
you get the new one instead? They have different storage keys, so that
shouldn't happen.
Similarly for deleted University.JPG and Sindh_Agriculture_University.JPG, the
keys are different.

On the other hand, Kolkata_Tipu_Sultan's_Mosque3.jpg indeed has two versions
with the same storage key, so one of them is lost.
I think this can be a consequence of the image getting wrong hash bug I
reported on bug 17057#c3 (this wrong data would only produce dataloss once the
file is deleted).

Thanks for the request, Bergi. I'm removing the 1.18 tarball release milestone
because I think this is not *urgent* enough for us to aim to fix it, review the
code for the fix, and roll it out within the next couple of weeks (which is
when we're trying to get the 1.18 tarball release out). However, per
discussion with Daniel Friesen on IRC, it seems reasonable to aim for the 1.19
tarball release, so I've added that milestone instead.

It doesn't happen every time; most times it doesn't happen in fact. But you
will note from my example above: the SHA1 information is off, as is the
pixelage argument, so you can tell I'm not just being loopy. This is in fact a
bug, unless I'm badly mistaken.

(In reply to comment #1)

What firefox version are you using? (FF 3?) On which OS?

ff 3.6.23. on ubuntu 10.4

Does it work if you disable javascript?

Yep, good call, it's working when I turn off Java (Open JDK v.6)

Do you see a difference if you use https://vi.wikipedia.org/ instead of
http://vi.wikipedia.org/ ?

No difference if Java is enabled

So I tried changing the encoding to Vietnamese and a weird list of commands
(press F8, F9, F7 or F12) in the status bar. When I press any one of the
F-buttons, it does nothing but re-organize the order of the four commands.

Here's the exact readout of my status bar:

Kiểu gõ: Tự động [F9] | Chính tả: Tất [F8] | Bỏ dấu: Mới [F7] | Bật/Tắt [F12] -
AVIM
