Hmm, I don't see how this could possibly happen. I assume you don't have any
custom extensions hooking into PerformRetroactiveAutoblock ? (Nothing in the
repo uses that hook, but thought i'd check)

At the moment our HTML class intentionally strips out type="text" if specified
(So if you see type="text" anywhere, you're looking at something generated by
legacy code)  I suppose it could be changed to force use of type="text" when
type is unspecified.

I can confirm this in my Chromium 15, Debian(Unstable). As far as I can tell,
this is a rendering bug in chrome/chromium  and need to be reported
upstream(http://code.google.com/p/chromium/issues). And need a separate bug
report here since rendering issue in search suggestion and this  are two
different issues.

Ah, i identified the issue in attachment 9734, its something to do with font
not having italic glyph. Not sure if something can be done here. Ideally must
be reported to a (inactive) upstream since that font is a ASCII font.

I can confirm this as a bug in search suggestions.
To produce - In ta.wiki, select inputmethod as Tamil99, in search box, type k ,
You will get ம, and suggestions.

Here is the code for the first suggestion.

மீட்டர்



To highlight ம, there is a span surrounding it, but the 'ee' vowel sign is
outside span. For Indic languages, vowel signs cannot exist independently. And
this causes the search suggestion item appears as wrongly rendered.

The solution is not straightforward - if we want to highlight the type letter,
the span should be applied to the glyph cluster and not to the letter alone. 


I am not sure if there is any easy way to do this. Browser are aware of these
rules anyway, try moving cursor over "மீட்டர்"  step by step. You cannot place
your cursor between ம and ீ .

The problem is not  limited to Tamil anyway. I am changing the bug summary.

That's intentional/desired behaviour I thought? (in any case side effect of not
actually parsing the unused part of the if, which is extremely unlikely to
change).

Consider if Foo was transcluded every where, you'd only want the pages that
actually call it with the parameters that make TranscludeMe appear, appear on
special:whatlinkshere

Umm, we've always considered bugs for extensions (or at least extensions
generally used on Wikimedia) as legitimate bugs. Bundling parser funcs with
1.18 has neither increased nor decreased its legitimacy (we still consider it
an extension, so this isn't a core bug, not that that changes anything), but it
was always legit in the first place.

I am still getting the broken glyphs. The letters seen in attachment 9735 are
”குவ” (can be reproduced in transliteration typing scheme by keystrokes kuva).
Occurs with Narayam input scheme or external input scheme or just copypasting
the text

With FireBug installed, I see the following (first of several) error:

 "NetworkError: 404 Not Found -

Which makes it look like something else is going on.

It sounds like you haven't run update.php after upgrading.  What happens if you
do that?

When browsing Wikipedia in any language, clicking on W goes to the English home
page. In addition, it also seems to go an old home page, as in bug 33281.

Or do we really need to keep them at all?

They have some use, but I can't really say I've ever used [1] for anything
specifically, and similarly for [2]

should look to either of those applications for overall design cues.
