OK, Volker Haas, I have come up with a simple way to fix all this:

We will first determine whether a wiki page is "mostly Western" (then we'll use
wordwrap=Western) or not (then we'll use wordwrap=CJK).

The definition of "mostly Western" can be: the longest consecutive CJK string
in the page is shorter than 10 characters.

ReportLab says working on this problem is not their priority. So I'm trying to
fix it personally in their source code.

I found (and they told me) their source code is actually very old (2006). It's
before Unicode went mainstream, which is why they don't support mixed text
wrapping well.

So, is it hard for PediaPress to switch to a more "modern" PDF library, such as
TCPDF, which I already saw people say is good at Unicode support?

Oh, I wasn't accounting for hashing in the post above. I was just using the
conceptual container names.

Yes, it will use (a), that is, keeping the hash dir in the path. Though it
would not be "site-lang-media-thumb-ab", it will be "site-lang-media-thumb.ab".

If we shard a container, do the hashes still wind up in the filename?

I think (a) makes more sense.  rewrite.py currently either hashes the container
or drops the hash entirely - similar to (b) but removing a/ab/ even if the
container is not hashed.

Numbers should also be trimmed of whitespace and obvious conversions made, if
that's an issue (dots vs. commas).

Arguably it would be also desirable to not insert obviously incorrect
information.

For example, sometimes the altitude seems to be filled by a camera with
non-numeric fields. Is there really any value in inserting this data into the
form?

Similar requests have been closed even though there was community consensus.
LQT deployments were considered "on hold" until the re-engineering was
complete. See Bug 19699#c10. Has this status changed?

Basically: there appears to be a problem in the upload wizard. When typing in
descriptions, reaching a limit of about 1 to 2kB the browser "freezes" as JS
goes into a tight loop.

I haven't experienced this bug, but someone who emailed the OTRS system did.
After talking to Roan, I was advised to make a bugzilla report.

Device is 3G Samsung BlackJack (runs Windows Mobile 5.0). Error displayed is
from IE and it says this: "Alert. This pages contains errors and cannot be
displayed." No error code is given other than the above quoted portion.

User experiencing said issue cannot access any version of the mobile site nor
the normal version. They are booted out of IE after attempting to accessing
Wikipedia. They said it happens on any article (from any link) they attempt to
access.

Andrew, thank you for the patch.  I'm very sorry, but in the time since you
provided your patch, MediaWiki's codebase has changed enough that your patch no
longer applies cleanly to our trunk.  Therefore I'm marking it obsolete and
removing the "need-review" and "patch" keywords.

Wicke, who is one od the developers on that effort. If this issue is still one
you're interested in fixing, please join us in IRC

Can people still replicate this problem?

Am removing the "patch" and "need-review" keywords because unfortunately

The mobile site and the mobile app don't use WebFonts. Many fonts don't support
WebFonts anyway, but the mobile site should at least try to load them. Some
phones are able to show WebFonts on the regular site.

Despite r108213 which seemed to resolve the problem reported in the URL, I'm
seeing it (albeit reduced) on Chromium 15.0.874.106 (Build 107270 Linux) Ubuntu
11.10, whatever I try to translate at [[mw:Special:Translate]].
I didn't and don't have this problem with Firefox 8/9, but I didn't have it
with Chromium (on Translatewiki) before, either.

More errors are reported on TWN, I don't know whether it's the same bug:

A null edit is a save without changes (See [[Wikipedia:NULLEDIT]]). That
produce no new new revision in the history, but it should not destroy the

Patch to take into account the user's namespaces pref

I changed the component to "Special pages" to match bug 33270.

The problem is that the "fix" for bug 33270 assumed that if no namespaces were
explicitly given in the HTTP request then the "default" search was wanted,
while only the advanced option uses the user preference. One simple fix is to
just not assume any profile (the old behavior) if the user has specified any
search namespaces in their preferences.

Indeed. Last I checked ResourceLoader doesn't output links for user/site js/css
if the related pages on-wiki are empty or inexistent.

They could still serve as a way to prevent wiki-admins from writing JavaScript
that is loaded on all pages for all users though, which I think is a valid use
case that some mediawiki runners may wish to keep that way.

Both the en and de versions are inactive, the majority of the edits are
notifications to inactive users that their rights will be removed. As there is
an issue with the https:// version of these sites (due to the fact the SSL
certificate allows one subdomain, not a subdomain within a subdomain), please
can you close and lock all labs.wikimedia.org projects?

I'm also very happy with the Array extension. I've started using it for
everything now, instead of the list format. I consider it one of the most
important extensions available for advanced usage of MediaWiki:

Further testing of the array format has not revealed any issues, so while I
continue to test (as always), I still consider this bug resolved as FIXED.

The original issue was about lcfirst / ucfirst being broken on Turkish wikis.
This has long been solved by reverting the code.

The issue derived to about our Turkish language class lacking uc() / lc()
implementation. I have thus split that part in a new bug report : bug 33643

So there is nothing left in this bug.

Split from bug 31490.

Our Turkish language class lacks proper implementation of lc() and uc() for
that language. It uses a dotted i and a dotless i, which mean that I and i are
actually different letter in that language!

An implementation was deployed on wmf wiki for 1.18 but it was reverted by
r99289 & r99290. The reason is that it broke magic words and related parser
functions (i.e. {{#lcfirst}}) on the turkish wikis.

The MediaWiki code handling magic words normalize then to lower case using the
content language (look for lc() calls in MagicWord class). Hence a magic word
such as lcfirst is treated just like a turkish word and end up upper cased with
a dotted i.

Two possibilities:
- magic words could optionally be made an array referencing the language. Then
we could use that language thus using the proper lc / uc implementations
- for turkish language, forge magic words aliases having dotted or dot less i.
i.e. 'ucfirst' (with dot) could have an alias UCFIRST (without dot). Both would
then be valid.

Optionally, parser functions could use a parameter to change the language being
used. This would let Turkish project to use the English lc / uc function, for
example to upper case iPhone to IPhone (dotless i).

ImportReporter::reportPage has

if ( $title === null ) {
 # Invalid or non-importable title; a notice is already displayed
 return;
}

The api extends ImportReporter with ApiImportReporter, but does not respect a
null in $title in reportPage . The api is calling ApiQueryBase::addTitleInfo
and that gives the reported fatal error.

When $title is null you have to set a info in the api result (something like
invalid="" and the original title) and than returning.

That's very odd. I undid the revision that made the file inaccessible, under
the assumption that the older broken revisions would still be broken. Somehow
the most recent revision is affecting older revisions. I undid the undo, and
the errors have returned. 

Still, disabling Semantic Forms alleviates the error condition, but I'm
starting to wonder if there's something deeper going on within MediaWiki that
is interacting with Semantic Forms to produce the error.

I've asked Antoine to do what Chad suggested in comment 1, which is to give it
a @group and disable by default.  There's lots of discussion about actually
fixing the test which is a lower priority bug that I don't want to stick him
with.
