[Bug 33253] Errors in the article count of Wikisource

(In reply to comment #0)
 1) Wikisource has a lot of articles without internal link. Article count
 should
 include page without internal link.

I thought this had been fixed by bug 24754 / bug 11868.
I don't think Wikisource needs the new $wgArticleCountMethod created after bug
26033, does it? And in any case it should be set to comma, not any, except
perhaps some languages which don't use commas.
Cf. bug 27256, while I don't find a bug for Wiktionary, perhaps the actual
configuration has not been requested yet or wasn't actually needed?

 2) Some namespaces are included into article count (102 = author,104 = page,
106 = index). But the numerotation is not identical between wikis

 For example :
 On pl: 100=page, 102=index, 104=author
 On it: 102=author, 108=page, 110=index
 On fr: 102=author, 104=page, 112=index

This is bug 29172: reopen if some namespaces are missing on some wikis.

After the configuration has been set or confirmed to be set correctly, the
really missing piece here is running updateArticleCount.php on all Wikisources,
which already have utterly broken count because of the ContentNamespaces
change, mass deletions and so on.
Also Wiktionary (after r88113) and en/pt.books need it I suppose.

For me this is because SemanticForms.js has custom code, probably copy-pasted
from http://www.learningjquery.com/2010/06/a-jquery-ui-combobox-under-the-hood
and ignoring the remarks of not using *jquery.ui* namespace for custom widgets.

Anyway .combobox() is called before the code that defines it is run.

For you it is probably because MW 1.16 does not have a resource loader. 1.16 is
not receiving security updates and you should plan for upgrade. I would
recommend keeping the version of MW and SMW mostly in the same level with
regards to release time.

Well, I don't see any clear parallels with the current situation, but then I'm
not the 'tech guy'. What I do know is that the form loads again once I've
removed ==More information== from it
(http://scratchpad.referata.com/wiki/Form:Cav). The h1 headers used for Header
tabs, on the other hand, seem to be fine.

Any word from Yaron? Or are you still as much in the dark as we are?

Thanks for your comment. I didn't understand everything and don't know where
the problem come from.

But I still believe that the figures on http://stats.wikimedia.org and
[[Special:Statitics]] for Wikisource are misleading.

E.g. the size of the french wikisoure database is decreasing !

There is also a problem with the number of active editors, article count...

The following script does may be not take into account the specificities of
Wikisource (transclusion, namespaces)

Just a note that log actions, if the page is a user page, includes also all
 log
actions on the user account (e.g. changing user rights).

And any other possible log action on the page. This is particularly annoying if
the page is a translatable page with the Translate extension, because you get
an has been created notification each time a new revision is marked for
translation (which happens almost as frequently as normal edits), while usually
the problem happens only in rare cases (reupload, deletion, move, user rights
change...).
This doesn't seem to happen for FlagedRevisions or patrol log (at least on
[[mw:]]), so perhaps it's not only a problem with the notification system?

Please open another bug for WikiStats. Erik Zachte has already worked on this
and fixed some parts of it: I think Commons is ok, while he's not updated the
script to use ContentNamespaces rather than namespace 0 in all cases, AFAIK. I
think he has other priorities now, but a bug report might be useful.

In the meanwhile, because no request to change the article count method seems
to be needed/requested, I'm changing the summary making this a shell request
for a maintenance script run.
Severity set to major because article count is an important feature and
Special:Statistics a very used page, currently completely incorrect on those
wikis after the count method changes.

Fixed in r108966. Concept descriptions had not been read properly from the
store (unless used directly in querying when no cache was available).

If the cache update script still reports No concept description found. for an
existing concept page that has a proper concept description, then one should
try editing that concept page to refresh the data. It might be that it simply
did not make it into the SMW database after some upgrade or import.

However, there is still one issue. In former versions of SMW the items included
in the cache of the concept were displayed on the respective page of the
concept. Currently nothing is shown.

Special:PreFixIndex. Special:PreFixIndex make it broken. Is it a bug on the

--- Comment #2 from Santhosh Thottingal santhosh.thottin...@gmail.com

The font is very big in size. Around 4.5MB in TTF format and some 800KB when
converted to WOFF. We were in discussion with the maintainers of the
font(Tibetan Himalayan Library) two months back. The font is having lot of
glyphs in Private use/Corporate use area of unicode. The glyphs are mapped to
unicode point in Corporate area, and at the same time has GSUB table entries to
those glyphs. The maintainers had connected us to designer of the font, but we
did not get any updates. I think the size can be reduced if we remove unused
corporate area glyphs(there are many such glyphs ike brandnames as a single
glyph), and simplify the drawings of other glyphs. The font 'works', but as a
webfont, its size is a concern. The same problems exist for Jomolhari font for
bzwiki. May be we need to ping the maintainers again, or we should see if we
can reduce the font size by ourself.

(Hazard-SJ):

The Article Feedback tool is displayed when prompted to confirm a purge. I
believe this is a bad idea, and furthermore, a minor bug that should be fixed,
so it only is shown when a user is viewing the page itself.

Does seem like a fairly easy think to fix. Presumably AF filters per action,
though, so I can't help wondering why it displays on action=purge anyway.

I post here because it is for me much related:

I was just installing WikiEditor bundled with MediaWiki tarball and activating
the extension in the installer. Unfortunately, this does not help much because
WikiEditor is by default disabled which requires to modify LocalSettings.php
manually.

At a first place this may be confusing as the installer claims that checking
the checkbox is sufficient.

Before bundeling one had to download WikiEditor seperately which forced the
user to read [[mw:Extension:WikiEditor]] where the (correct) installation
process is explained. Now nobody forces the user to read that anymore.

Would is not be rasonable also to enable WikiEditor if somebody tells the
installer that it shall be installed? (Maybe changing the defaults of
WikiEditor?)

ugh! sorry, LQT is disorienting, and I find it harder and takes longer to skim

active WMF support, before it's enabled on meta. It could just be me, though,
that dislikes LQT.

I had similar or possibly identical issues with the language settings (English)
while trying to update MW 1.17 = 1.18. I disabled all SMW-related extensions
in local settings, ran the MW web updater, replaced the extensions with the
latest official versions for MW 1.18, re-enabled the SMW extensions in local
settings and upgraded the tables in Special:SMWAdmin. Apart from a bug
occurring with SF (reported elsewhere) that did the trick for me.

is already available at Wikia which is a big MediaWiki farm so it might work

Thank you for the patch. However, I don't think this is the right way of
implementing this feature for several reasons:

- Shouldn't use the borderline private methods of message cache
- Questionable weather the template should be a specified in such an indirect
way (Specify name, which resolves to a system message, which resolves back to a
template, seems as if it should just directly take the template. I like
mode=template, templatename=foo approach much better personally)
- Some coding convention issues (but those issues are more reflective of the
extension in general then of this patch).

A patch that causes the problem.

I'm sorry about the few details in the description.

I made the changes in the attached patch in my tree (the patch is supposed to
address in r107365). I ran php phpunit.php and received the following error:

==
4) ParserTests::testParserTest with data set #623 ('Space normalisation on
autocomment (bug 22784)', '/* __hello__world__ */', 'a
href=/wiki/Main_Page#hello_world title=Main Page→/aspan

+'a href=/wiki/Main_Page#hello_world title=Main Page→/aspan
dir=autospan class=autocomment__hello__world__/span/span'
==

It seems like the strings are the same, but they are reported as different.

Other changed tests were reported as failing for the same reason, too.

Reedy suggested opening a bug.

Database structure is documented at [[mw:Manual:Revision_table]] and

(In reply to comment #3)
In the first edit (13:39, 20 December 2011) I removed one line ONLY: a
link to bronnikov-alrorithms.com. However, if you compare it to the previous
version (22:54, 5 December 2011‎ Holdendp) you will see that there were more
changes than this. These spurious changes remain even after I have undone my
 corrections.

In your first edit I think you edited an old revision by mistake. Here is a
diff were only the link was removed:
http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Tomographic_reconstructionaction=historysubmitdiff=466847194oldid=273185931

Then you made another correction. And when you tried undoing your changes, you
only undid the last correction.

After reviewing InitialiseSettings, I can understand why do we have be-x-old no
more. The language is set evidently (be-tarask, thanks God!). Moving to
be-tarask.wikipedia.org would make the task easier for different tools to map
language code to proper wiki and vice-versa.

The most interesting point of this discussion is that there is not even an
against opinion.

The data loss was inadvertently fixed in r108886. The deletion will simply fail
in the case of two different files wrongly have the same SHA-1 in the DB. This
basically does what comment #16 mentioned.

On a related note, I also noticed that LocalFile::lock() doesn't actually lock
anything (no FOR UPDATE)...

This patch would (probably) be trivial to update. Downside is this will break
the bold there are updates available marker on watchlist (or actually not so
much break it, but make its behaviour kind of weird for minor edits). OTOH the
updated marker should probably be re-thought on a variety of fronts... (not
user controllable, not reset from email links half the time, not clear to user
what it even means).

My suggestion for fixing this bug would be 2 part:

For the short term, change Simple English Wikipedia's language code from 'en'
to 'simple' so that it matches the other Simple English projects and be can
targeted separately from the English Wikipedia for things like CentralNotice
and interlanguage links.

For the long term, change the 'simple' language code to 'en-x-simple' and
switch all the Simple English projects to that.

After enabling *all* gadgets on commons.beta, I found far too many instances of
gadgets that would require they be wrapped in

  mw.loader.using( 'mediawiki.util', function ( $ ) {
  ...
  });

to be reasonable. The only other instance of a dependency problem I found like
this was with
http://commons.wikimedia.beta.wmflabs.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Gadget-Flickrfixr.js.

mw.util is used in enough gadgets, though, that gadget-loading itself should be
wrapped with that dependency.
