[Bug 34318] New: Pages are repeatedly recreated despite deletion and create-protection

 Bug #: 34318
   Summary: Pages are repeatedly recreated despite deletion and
create-protection
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Babel
AssignedTo: rob...@rhl.me.uk
ReportedBy: jamesbwats...@yahoo.com
Classification: Unclassified

On English Wikipedia, it was decided in a deletion discussion to delete the
page "category:User simple", and all of its subcategories, such as
"Category:User simple-2", etc. Unfortunately, Babel AutoCreate keeps recreating
these categories. The categories have been fully create-protected to prevent
this, but somehow Babel AutoCreate still manages to create them, despite not
having "administrator" listed in its user rights. Can you please stop it from
doing so? (I would also be grateful if someone could explain how this account
is managing to create fully-protected pages.)

The deletion discussion is at
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/User/Archive/February_2008#Category:User_simple_and_all_subcategories.

[Bug 34318] Pages are repeatedly recreated despite deletion and create-protection

2012-02-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34318

--- Comment #1 from James Watson  2012-02-10 10:21:57
UTC ---
My mistake. The decision was not to delete "Category:User simple" and all its
subpages: it was to delete all subpages and merge them into "Category:User
simple". Thus it is OK for "Category:User simple" to exist, but "Category:User
simple-1", "Category:User simple-N" etc should not be re-created.

I have submitted a change to have gerrit send a notification to jenkins:

The hook send the repo URL that has been modified, Jenkins git plugin should
then trigger a build for any job having such URL.

Looks like that command is the Oracle way of starting a transaction. From
includes/db/DatabaseOracle.php :

function begin( $fname = 'DatabaseOracle::begin' ) {
$this->mTrxLevel = 1;
$this->doQuery( 'SET CONSTRAINTS ALL DEFERRED' );
}

Your credentials might lack the user right to set constraints, or the DB might
lack that support.

Well that depends do you mean that the DB user may lack credentials or the
Solaris user account. My user account with the DB has DBA and create session

http://translatewiki.net/wiki/Special:Contributions/Whym&uselang=ja where
MediaWiki:Pipe-separator is "|". (although this wiki is
1.20alpha, I confirmed in the Wikimedia deployment wiki as well)

Possibly other codes are affected by the same problem.

May have created that error by adding a parameter. I don't know.

[Bug 34322] New: #tag returns junk in front of its displayed value

2012-02-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34322

   Web browser: ---
 Bug #: 34322
   Summary: #tag returns junk in front of its displayed value
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.18.1
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: major
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Parser
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: mediaw...@blazemonger.com
Classification: Unclassified

Define a simple parser tag extension that returns "abcde":

setHook('junk', 'efJunkCallback');
  return true;
}
function efJunkCallback($input, $args, $parser, $frame) {
  return 'abcde';
}

When displayed in the wiki, it seems to work fine:

{{#tag:junk}}
==> abcde

But when the value is passed to other parser functions, it breaks:

{{#len:{{#tag:junk
==> 1

{{#ifeq:{{#tag:junk}}|abcde|yes|no}}
==> no

Since the value display correctly, I hypothesize that {{#tag:junk}} is
returning a 1-character, null-terminated string in front of "abcde".

I too have concerns about the + feature. When I first saw it I expected
clicking + would save the page or save the result, however what it actually
does is an autocomplete.

What might be better is to have a list of search results with links inside them
to the pages. If the link is clicked the user gets taken to the page, if the
user pushes outside the link but within the result it copies across to the
search input box.

This requirement is still relevant (originally requested by Howie), but will
require us to implement 'Search' first, so we can search for posts by user
name. Then we can show the user all the posts they have made on this article.
We may be able to re-use some code from Moodbar for Search, since they allow
you to search by user now (though I would expand this to include searching for
any text string in a variety of fields).

So I am moving this ticket to phase 2.0 for now. You can see a brief
description of this feature ('Show all posts by a user') in our 'Features under
consideration' section of the feature requirements page:

IIRC this is behaving according to XML spec; multiple literal spaces may be
consolidated.

Try explicit or or perhaps you want   for a non-breaking
space here.

http://www.w3.org/TR/REC-xml/#AVNormalize
"If the attribute type is not CDATA, then the XML processor MUST further
process the normalized attribute value by discarding any leading and trailing
space (#x20) characters, and by replacing sequences of space (#x20) characters
by a single space (#x20) character."

Luckily for all of us the + feature has been removed! More notes from a recent
meeting follow:

1. '+' Does not serve a reasonable function and these icons will be removed.

2. The icon on the left side of the search rows (currently a mag. glass) serves
to visually balance the rows to the search box back arrow so it doesn't look
like there is an empty space vertically. This icon will be replaced by an
article icon from Brandon's new designs. In the future we may be able to
indicate the file type of the search this way (image, user, category, etc).

3. The 'Done' button and its row at the top of the keyboard will be put back.

The MediaWiki write-up will be updated shortly.

Found and fixed this bug in r79; tested locally and on prototype.

I noticed while I was working on it that although the Learn More CTA's button
clicks are tracked, the Edit CTA's learn how to edit link is not. Dario's
draft list (comment #3) includes it, but his priority revision (comment #7)
does not. Is this correct? Are we ready to start tracking it now.

This would be far too complicated for an already complicated extension. I'm
inclined to WONTFIX, unless somebody can come up with a sane UI and data model
for this.

I completely disagree. Term by term addition was well received by our community
and allows any user to type less on their software keyboard. Typing sucks on a
software keyboard and the less you do it the better. Not having term by term
addition reverts us to a poor user experience and is worse for our users.

Why would we remove this? If the issue is that the '+' is a poor icon. Then
change the icon. Don't rip out a feature just because it doesn't have the
proper final icon.

Take a look at google & bing and you'll see it working very well.

I have installed and enabled SemanticForms 2.4 with SemanticFormsInputs 0.5. My
form includes datetime picker and free text input below. Everything works well.
But enabling WikiEditor 0.3.0 extension causes a problem: if I click on clock
button on the right of time input filed, list of hours (timepicker) appears,
but it is partially hidden by the editor: only the beginning of the list is
available, the rest is *behind* the editor.

Updating both SF and SFI from trunk does not help. I did not try to update
WikiEditor yet. BTW, calendar (datepicker) is always shown correctly -- above
the editor.

> I agree with tomasz. I don't think this should be thrown away I just don't

The (+) not getting thrown away because of the symbol.

Term by term addition is nice if a) there are terms to add (i.e., if our
typical search includes more than say 2-3 words) and b) our existing type-ahead
doesn't add add these terms.

In my opinion, this is an area where we can rat-hole around both the design and
the implementation of the feature and it's not clear to me that doing so _at
this point in time_ is worth the effort. Granted, if there is a user need and
we can execute on it in the right way, it could be valuable to have the
feature. But we have plenty of other interesting problems to work on.

re:
a) Do we know what our average search length (by number of terms entered before
a type-ahead selection is selected) on the English Wikipedia is? If, say, 80%
of our searches are between 1-3 words that's one thing. If 80% of our searches
are 4+ words, that's something else.

b) In many cases, the existing type-ahead seems to suggest the right amount of
words to get the user to the article. For example, typing "barack" surfaces
"barack obama". There's no need for the (+) here. If I were looking for
barack obama's 2008 presidental campaign, this article also shows up in type
ahead.

Let's take a look at the core interaction here. (+) is useful for searches
with multiple terms where the type-ahead is not deterministic and the (+) can
help narrow down the field of results.

Anyway, that's my $0.02. I just feel we have much bigger fish to fry right
now, but feel free to disagree.

Maybe...I'd prefer to keep the container, in case a failed up was moving some
file from one zone to another, likely with the same relative paths.

Can't we just use trigger_error() or something and put more descriptive paths
in there (e.g. absolute FS paths or real swift paths)? This would aid in
debugging without conflating UI errors with detailed errors for admin
debugging.

[Bug 34326] New: SemanticForms: Partial forms and nested templates.

2012-02-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34326

   Web browser: ---
 Bug #: 34326
   Summary: SemanticForms: Partial forms and nested templates.
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: any
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW

 Component: SemanticForms

I have a form with nested templates:

> {{{info}}}
> {{{for template|Cache}}}
> ...Cache fields...
> {{{field|Locations|holds template}}}
> {{{end template}}}
> {{{for template|Cache/Location|multiple|embed in field=Cache[Locations]}}}
> ...Location fields...
> {{{end template}}}

Everything works good. Page code looks as expected:

> {{Cache
> |...Cache fields...
> |Locations={{Cache/Location|...}}{{Cache/Location|...}}...
> }}

I have an additional *partial* form:

> {{{info|partial form}}}
> {{{for template|Cache}}}
>
> {{{field|Locations|holds template}}}
> {{{end template}}}
> {{{for template|Cache/Location}}}
> ...Location fields...
> {{{end template}}}

After editing a page with this partial form, all the Location templates *moved*
*out* of Cache, while Locations field receives strange value:

> {{Cache
> |...Cache fields...
> |Locations=@replace_Cache___Locations@
> }}
> {{Cache/Location|...}}{{Cache/Location|...}}...

That's obviously a big. Partial form should not move nested templates out of
main template.

However, there is a workaround: removing "partial form" specifier from partial
form definition. Such a "non-partial" form produces correct result, but I am a
bit afraid -- formally it is declared as partial form, so it does not have to
save non-used fields of main template, does it?
