[Bug 31527] jquery.tablesorter's data-sort-type feature not working for wikitext tables on WMF

There is a class-based metadata format the tablesorter could use which is
compatible with HTML 4 (though the data-* options are also compatible if you
don't mind your document not being 100% valid): class=foo {sort-type:'number'}
bar

Tablesorter uses the jquery.metadata plugin for that though, which is not
present.

With debug=true, it still reproduces pretty reliably. However, it may not be
dependent on bug 34409 after all. There is a valid mw.user.options and
mw.user.token object. With debug=false, mw.user.tokens.values.editToken is
50bbcmumblemumblemumblemumble+\. With debug=true,
mw.user.tokens.values.editToken is +\

With debug=true the tokens are served from bits.wikimedia.org, but the browser
doesn't send the login cookie there, so the user is treated as anonymous, hence
editToken === '+\'.

--- Comment #8 from Niklas Laxström niklas.laxst...@gmail.com 2012-02-19

The only difference I see are in the actual log message text, which comes from
MediaWiki i18n files: the username is now prepended in the message, and the
exact wording of some logs have changed.

If that is the case it's not a simple one line fix, either you revert the whole
new logging system (which you can't, since it stores logs in format not
compatible with 1.18), or write new code that only emulates the old log format
output. Would this be a sign that you could help us to make proper replacement
like XMPP?

Anyway, please confirm what is the actual cause, Krinkle already asked before
this bug was reported.

Could be related to the special page name (Log) being translated. Although
that was supposed to be reverted and afaik was.

That was bug 30245 and it's reverted in 1.19, so the problem is elsewhere.
I've seen mention of section names and other things which might have changed,
can't we possibly have a description of what is actually broken?

(I've seen Philippe, robla, Jamesofur, Pathoschild, Bsadowski1 and Tanvir
discussing it on IRC, I don't know where they put the result of their
investigation.)

This has been told to be the old format:
Bsadowski1 rc-pmtpa Special:Log/block block * MikeLynch * blocked
User:116.240.175.168 (anon. only, account creation blocked) with an expiry time
of 24 hours: Vandalism

And this appear to be the new one:
Nikerabbit Special:Log/block block * Nemo bis * Nemo bis blocked
User:QoyuxeLetoho with an expiry time of indefinite (account creation
disabled, e-mail blocked, cannot edit own talk page): Spamming links to

[Bug 34373] populateRevisionSha1.php misses archive rows, whose text is stored directly in the archive table (not text table)

--- Comment #4 from christ...@quelltextlich.at 2012-02-19 10:32:01 UTC ---
While the proposed fix does indeed add a SHA1 sum to archive rows whose text is
stored directly within the archive table, the proposed fix introduces two
problems:

- It breaks populating SHA1 for the rows from the revision table and from the
archive table (only for rows which have their text in the text table).
Changing the if condition from

 $this-upgradeRow( $row, $db, $table, $idCol, $prefix )

in populateRevisionSha1.php:86 to

 $this-upgradeRow( $row, $table, $idCol, $prefix )

fixes this issue.
But lacking commit access, I wonder whether I should file a separate bug for
this regression.

- The SHA1 sum set with previous versions of the script for archive rows that
store their text in the text table does not match the SHA1 sum that they would
receive now.
By comparing the sums and experimenting with the text, it seems, the text used
for SHA1 computation now gets rtrimmed.
Having some SHA1 sums for the old approach and some for the new approach in the
table is not quite optimal for automatic verification ;)
Has this change been introduced on purpose?

[Bug 34470] margin for edit section button on RTL wikis with LTR user interface is on the wrong side

--- Comment #4 from foma...@googlemail.com 2012-02-19 10:58:06 UTC ---
The annoying left margin for the edit section buttons on RTL wikis with LTR
user interface was my reason to open the bug.

The definition
.editsection {
float: right;
}
is useless because it is always overwritten by one of the more specific
definitions with class mw-content-ltr or class mw-content-rtl in the selector.
Or is there still a situation for a edit section button without class
mw-content-ltr or mw-content-rtl?

[Bug 34511] New: Support Type:URL values with more than 255 characters

Bug #: 34511
 Summary: Support Type:URL values with more than 255 characters
 Product: MediaWiki extensions
 Version: any
 Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: Semantic MediaWiki
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: mar...@semantic-mediawiki.org

Type:URL is currently limited to 255 characters, since this is the maximum
length of the string field in the standard database schema of SMW. Arbitrary
length types Text and Code cannot be queried in the same way, and do therefore
not provide an alternative.

As a solution, all long Text data should be stored together with a hash to
allow efficient querying, and a way should be provided for URL data to use this
facility (either with a new type LongURL or by changing the default behaviour
of URL). It might be possible to construct the hash by using, say, 247 initial
characters of the string, followed by an 8 character alphanumeric hash code.
This could have some advantages:

(1) String comparison functions (that are based on lexicographic order) would
produce meaningful results unless the first 247 chars agree. Even in the latter
case, meaningful comparisons would be possible.

(2) It might be possible to leave the long text field set to NULL if the string
is short enough for 255 letters. This should safe reduce the overhead of
supporting long strings significantly.

With this method, all long string types should be reconcilable with the
normal short versions, and String as well as URL should be storable in the same
table.

This will be an independent problem for you then. The SMW database backend can
only store 255 characters for any data value that is not Text or Code. String
reports a problem, but URL has the same limitation (and may not report it).
This is independent from this bug, but gave me an idea on how to improve the
handling of long strings in general; I filed this as bug 34511.

It happened again, see https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34381 ...

I'm steward and my SUL is active in more than 400 wmf projects. Today I was
renaming some user accounts via
http://toolserver.org/~quentinv57/tools/global_renaming.ph - then I came to
ru.wikiversity.org:

http://ru.wikiversity.org/w/index.php?title=Special:RenameUseroldusername=Mietchennewusername=Daniel+Mietchenreason=see+meta%3ASteward_requests%2FUsername_changes%23Mietchen%40global

... and on top of the page I read Axpde Моя страница обсуждения Настройки
Список наблюдения Мой вклад Завершение сеанса, i.e. my account has been
automatically created. But then it reads:

Ошибка доступа
Перейти к: навигация, поиск

Запрошенное действие могут выполнять только участники из группы «Бюрократы».

Возврат к странице Заглавная страница.

... i.e. permission error! And with the next click the top line vanished
telling me to login first. But then I wasn't able to login. I tried to reset my
password, but it reads:

Для участника с именем Axpde электронный адрес указан не был.

... which means something like no email address attached to that account
(exact translation impossible 'cause translate.google.com went nuts :(

Same happened on zh-yue.wikipedia.org, ru.wikibooks.org (managed to get it
working via reset password) and uz.wikiquote.org before (no email address to
rest password, see https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34381 ...).

Please fix and please, tell me how can this happen for the second time this
month?!?

[Bug 34470] margin for edit section button on RTL wikis with LTR user interface is on the wrong side

2012-02-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34470

--- Comment #5 from foma...@googlemail.com 2012-02-19 12:59:10 UTC ---
Ok, there is one situation for a edit section button outside of the
mw-content-ltr or mw-content-rtl container when you create a edit section
button for the first heading as a gadget like
de:MediaWiki:Gadget-Einleitung-bearbeiten.js. For this situation the
automatic user interface based flipped definition is necessary:

.editsection {
float: right;
margin-left: 5px;
}

For edit section buttons inside the mw-content-ltr/mw-content-rtl container
should not flipped and should depend mw-content-ltr/mw-content-rtl.

- new -
/* Edit section links */
/* outside of mw-content-ltr/mw-content-rtl */
.editsection {
float: right;
margin-left: 5px;
}
/* Correct directionality when page dir is different from site/user dir */
/* @noflip */
.mw-content-ltr .editsection,
.mw-content-rtl .mw-content-ltr .editsection {
float: right;
margin-left: 5px;
}
/* @noflip */
.mw-content-rtl .editsection,
.mw-content-ltr .mw-content-rtl .editsection {
float: left;
margin-right: 5px;
}
-
LTR wikis with RTL user interface have the same problem with the margin. The
float definition and the margin definition must kept together.

Why depends the language and the direction of the first heading on the user
interface language and not on the page content language? I think the language
and the direction of the first heading should also depend on the page content
language.

All buttons in the page content should
* not printed
* not be selectable and copyable
* have the user interface language and direction

A new class should activate all the requirements at once.

Maybe the whole MediaWiki frame which is excluded in print version should also
be not selectable. Then the content is transferable to a word processing by
selecting everything (Ctrl+A) and copy (Ctrl+C).

getRequireOnlyOneParameterErrorMessages instead, and without my unnecessary

[Bug 34517] New: Sometimes scripts imported by mw.loader.load on common.js are not executed

Bug #: 34517
 Summary: Sometimes scripts imported by mw.loader.load on
common.js are not executed
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Platform: All
 URL: https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?oldid=501327

CC: krinklem...@gmail.com, tpars...@wikimedia.org
Classification: Unclassified
 Mobile Platform: ---

After MediaWiki.org was updated to MW 1.19 I noticed my global scripts were not
being loaded sometimes.

I replaced the content of mw:Project:Sandbox by the code

window.console.log( 'ok' );

and added

mw.loader.load(
'//www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Project:Sandboxoldid=501326action=rawctype=text/javascriptsmaxage=21600maxage=86400'
);

to mw:Special:MyPage/common.js. When I opened mw:Special:Random a few
times, I was expecting to always get the ok message in the error console, but
this only happened some times. When it didn't, a SHIFT+Reload solved the
problem for that page, but then if a opened another random page the problem is
back again.

I've reproduced this on Google Chrome 17.0.963.56 and Firefox 10.0.2.

screenshot of false not found search result

The following search request is unstable :

http://ja.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=%E7%89%B9%E5%88%A5%3A%E6%A4%9C%E7%B4%A2profile=defaultsearch=%E7%A0%B4%E9%82%AA%E9%A1%95%E6%AD%A3%E9%88%94fulltext=Search

This string is available in one article. Every now and then the search result
is that nothing is found, which is a wrong result.

When the article is found, the result is displayed quite quickly (less than one
second). When it is not found, the server takes a long time (about ten seconds)
to process the request.

Perhaps this is because the servers are too busy. In that case, the search
engine should reply with a sorry, we can't process your request now, try again
later error message rather than make the user believe that the searched string
is absent.

The page :commons:Commons:Deletion_requests/2012/02 is in Category:Pages
where template include size is exceeded (automatically by mediawiki). that is
disturbing our work at commons

Is it possible to get a higher limit for all Commons:Deletion_requests
subpages?
Probably it is just 3 pages being affected so it should not really be a notable
increase in load on the servers.

I think some people didn't want the short urls changing where they pointed to

(If I remember correctly)

Seems easier to keep the page_id on undelete (didn't we fix it?), on the simple

Occasionally someone will enable a new gadget and make it enabled for everyone
with the ability for individual users to opt-out. It would be nice if MediaWiki
somehow notified the user (when visiting Special:Preferences or via e-mail or
in some other way) that a new gadget had been enabled (without the user's
consent) and explain to the user how to disable the gadget, should they wish
to.

Even a New! tag next to newly enabled gadgets might be sufficient. I'm not
sure. The current practice of silently changing other users' user preferences
seems fairly unacceptable, though.

While your proposal was more or less my initial idea and makes sense, we chose
for the following:
h1 id=firstHeading class=firstHeadingspan dir= because this will keep
the title at a consistent place, i.e. the side depending on the user interface
language direction. Secondly, we did not use dir=ltr/rtl because for some
pages the title is in a different language (or mixed) than the page content
language (e.g. MediaWiki namespace pages, usernames, ...). Instead, we (Amir in
r105854 / r105870) use dir=auto which detects the direction. It's currently
only supported by Chrome but it will be soon in e.g. Firefox.

Because it is at a consistent place (based on UI) it can be flipped normally so
it doesn't need mw-content-{dir}

So we could WONTFIX this bug, if you agree.

(Relevant bugs: bug 34470, bug 31738, bug 32403)

I don't see the patch you're talking about in 1.19wmf1, only in trunk.

Multiple problem occurred making some button randomly appearing/disappearing
since 1.19 deployment (#34409 has some impact on some button on
fr.wikisource.org). I *think* italic/bold button disappear at very start of
deployment.

I don't see a possible relationship between jquery selector called in
mediawiki.action.edit.js while the DOM is not already built and the wikieditor.
Isn't the problem than more code in mediawiki.action.edit.js should be
protected by a $( document ).ready( function() ?

More discussion of this issue quoted below. This is a really tough problem to
solve well with our current caching infrastructure, but we should still keep an
eye on ways to fix this.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical)/Archive_96#Parser_cache_not_invalidated_for_redirect_pages

The short story is that when anonymous readers use redirects, such as WP:RD/L,
they often get outdated versions of the target page. This seems to be a problem
with the way our servers handle caching of page versions. I tried raising the
issue on the #wikimedia-tech IRC channel but didn't really arouse any interest,
and I don't really know where to go next. Could you ask someone from the
operations side to take a look at the VP/T thread and comment there? I know
there have been problems in the past with stale redirects and operation of the
job queue but I'm not sure if they are considered solved. The problem is pretty
much beyond what any of us locals can help with, so I think we could use some
heavyweight tech support, even if it's just to say can't be fixed or don't
care. The problem seems to affect usability of the wiki for anonymous editors,
if you can help with getting it looked at, that would be great. Thanks
regards! Franamax(talk) 23:22, 21 January 2012 (UTC)

I've looked at the PageCSS/PageCSS.php currently in trunk and it appears that
the only thing which needs to change for it to work correctly is for the parser
tag hook to return a value - a one-line change to return the empty string when
done.

Nothing else which was changed between PageCSS and NewPageCSS actually makes a
difference - whatever restrictions might have been encountered for Unicode in
the description strings were specific to one previous MediaWiki version and
have been resolved, rendering mw:extension:NewPageCSS unnecessary.

At this point, this is a bug fix for the PageCSS/PageCSS.php currently in
trunk.

public static function parse( $content, array $args, Parser $parser ) {
$css = htmlspecialchars( trim( Sanitizer::checkCss( $content ) ) );
$parser-mOutput-addHeadItem( EOT
style type=text/css
/*![CDATA[*/
{$css}
/*]]*/
/style
EOT
);
return htmlspecialchars();
}

I've changed the status of this item to be a one-line bug fix... not an
enhancement.

(In reply to comment #4)
- It breaks populating SHA1 for the rows from the revision table and from the
archive table (only for rows which have their text in the text table).
Changing the if condition from

See r111881.

- The SHA1 sum set with previous versions of the script for archive rows that
store their text in the text table does not match the SHA1 sum that they would
receive now.

I don't know what you mean. getRawText() returns the text as it is used by all
of MediaWiki. The SHA-1 of that is the SHA-1 of the text.

[Bug 34150] [SF] Special:RunQuery enhancement to be able to populate red-links automatically

2012-02-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=34150

--- Comment #13 from badon fastgoldf...@gmail.com 2012-02-19 20:01:55 UTC ---
No, that isn't right. Special:RunQuery and Data Transfer are not equivalent.
Here is a simpler breakdown:

* Special:RunQuery can be safely used by anyoneData Transfer can't.
* Special:RunQuery can dynamically generate data...Data Transfer can't.
* Special:RunQuery can dynamically manipulate data.Data Transfer can't.
* Special:RunQuery can dynamically verify data.Data Transfer can't.
* Special:RunQuery can do anything thatData Transfer can't.

I know Special:RunQuery pretty well, but I'm not 100% sure about Data Transfer,
since I haven't used it. Maybe you're planning additional features for Data
Transfer to cover these shortcomings, but haven't mentioned that yet? If you
could be more specific about what you don't understand, I can tinker around
maybe set up a demo or something to illustrate.

What do you think about the possibility of adding the fully automatic page
creation and editing feature to Special:RunQuery red links, versus adding the
feature to #autoedit (or a new #fullautoedit)?

--- Comment #3 from badon fastgoldf...@gmail.com 2012-02-19 21:12:01 UTC ---
If I could control user input (which isn't possible) %26 or amp; would work.

Since I can't control user input, #formlink requires workarounds to validate
the data entered by users, url-encoding of all parameters, or both. I'm
changing this to WONTFIX, since the characters are provably not handled
correctly, which makes this bug report valid, but maybe not one to bother with
fixing.

I don't know how #formlink handles the query string - is it possible for it to
distinguish where the parameters are, so it can url-encode them? I'm not sure
if that can be done reliably, which would be another reason to WONTFIX this
bug report. Does the MediaWiki parser do its job before #formlink gets a chance
to manipulate parameters?

I think the first heading is part of the content and should have the same
language and the same direction as the page content language. Do you agree?

As consequence the first heading MediaWiki:Help/de on
https://translatewiki.net/wiki/MediaWiki:Help/de?uselang=en
should be left aligned and the first heading MediaWiki:Help/ar on
https://translatewiki.net/wiki/MediaWiki:Help/ar?uselang=en
should be right aligned. Like in the body.
