Note that section=0 is different to all other headings where subheadings ARE
included in the edit. If I cared enough I'd add a new suggestion that existing
[edit]s only edit their section and not subsections. Again this would need to
be a configurable option to avoid retraining everyone...

The component description does say "Please don't report bugs in the underlying
Bugzilla system. Those bugreports should go to http://bugzilla.mozilla.org/ !"
so if this is NOT configurable by MediaWiki, can someone escalate it to there.

Given comments like https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=167#c30
could we adjust the skin of https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/ to change all
references to "Vote" to "Favorite" so all users quickly understand voting is
not relevant.

The Lay out appears to be popular in Gujarat. It may ease out the typing for
the people which are familiar with it.  The same may be incorporated in
Narayam.

It's currently possible to search incategory:X or -incategory:X, where X is a
category name, to include or exclude results categorised in Category:X.
However, this does not cover subcategories. This would obviously be useful,
particularly on Commons where search is an important way to find media.

This could be a separate keyword, say incategorysub:X. We could also, in
addition, extend incategory to specify recursion levels, with incategory:X
defaulting to incategory:0:X (just the category specified - no recursion), and
incategory:5:X meaning that we want to traverse 5 levels deep, and perhaps
incategory:-1:X meaning the same as incategorysub:X.

Obviously, the usefulness of this feature would be enhanced by also addressing
Bug 21988 (basically, providing GUI access to advanced search features).

I'm not sure wether the ID should be derived from the link or text, but it
should certainly not be based on the link text _value_, because then it would
have a different ID in different user languages, making it a complete mess to
hook into them from CSS or JavaScript.

Currently (1.19wmf1) they appear to be based on the message-key of the link
text. So that's not too bad. However in the case where no message-key is used
(and it falls back to the raw literal value), then it does end up literally in
the ID.

Using the link instead may make more sense as that should be more unique than
the link text (or its message key). I can imagine a wiki having 3 sections
named "Foo", "Bar" and "Baz" and all three having links like "Introduction",
"Download", "Install", "Get involved", but linking to different pages.

That does indeed mean "-url" or "-link" type of message keys will end up in the
ID attribute.. Or even things like "Special:Code/MediaWiki" in the case of
literal page names.

Hm.. is this specific to the high resolution of the Retina display?

I think it may be inevitable for any pixel based image. When zoomed further
than 100%, it is stretched. On a x years-old iPhone or Android no different.

Generalizing to all icons in the interface, at first sight it goes for:

* RSS/Atom icon: pixelated
* Collapsible navigation arrows: not pixelated but blurred (actually part of
Vector extension not the core skin, but whatever)
* Enhanced recent changes arrows (part of common core, not Vector skin
specifically)
-- These could probably just be CSS-styled htmlentities of arrows I guess?
* p-personal user icon (Tango Tango style)

Is there any better documentation for gerrit on labs? I need to change few
config files, but I can't even check out the correct repository

gives me a bunch of files which doesn't even look as configs we use on labs.
How do I switch to correct one? Where do I find nrpe_local for nagios we use on
labs?

I disagree. I think the gadgets extension should never ship with pre-installed
gadgets. This to avoid mass decentralization of gadgets (which are very hard,
if not impossible, to reliably update, so we'd be left with a lot of gadgets
installed on third party wikis, likely unused on most of them and not
update-able).

Instead this is where sharing and community comes in. Anyone can create such a
gadget if he sees a need for it, and (once Gadgets 2.0 is finished) it can be
natively shared with other wikis that also need it.

Much like Chrome extensions or Firefox add-ons, except with multiple market
places (repositories) and the wiki-admin 'decides' which repositories are
trusted and are aggregated in the search and allowed for loading.

But I don't see a feature request nor a bug here. As far as I can see
MediaWiki's ResourceLoader framework, the API and the mediawiki-JS library all
allow doing something like this. And from what I read here, it has already been
done on Commons to some degree.

I would like to revive this thread as I am having a very similar, if not the
same, issue.  Namespaces that have not been populated yet will throw errors
when i try to access them.  Chrome sometimes gives me the duplicate header
error or "Error 330 (net::ERR_CONTENT_DECODING_FAILED): Unknown error". 
Firefox will sometimes give me a corrupt content error or "The page you are
trying to view cannot be shown because it uses an invalid or unsupported form
of compression".  I have recreated the problem on a test wiki simply by
installing a fresh version (nothing special done to recreate the issue) at
http://www.nesmicroscopy.org/test/index.php?title=Main_Page .  Clicking on any
of the unpopulated namespaces will throw the error.  For example, the Help link
http://www.nesmicroscopy.org/test/index.php?title=Help:Contents .  Below are

P.S.  It seems like a common link between our problems might be that we both
use iPage as our webhost.  Just a thought.  Also, I want to mention that I
cannot run any scripts (including installing extensions) because our iPage
doesn't allow it.

When an external link http:// is used within a [[wikilink]] AND has a leading
space such as [[ http://www.anu.edu.au]] the link is created as an internal
redlink to itself.  Such a "link" also avoids the blacklist.

It would seem worthwhile to 'chomp' any leading spaces inside a [[wikilink]],
especially where the character after the space is a url.

WP:WEASEL; Says who? I'm not sure why someone would want to bookmark a bug but
not want e-mailnotifications. If someone doesn't want e-mails at all, they
could disable e-mailnotifications entirely for CC (sounds strange but in
BugZilla preferences you can disable notifications in a grid and one of the
options is to disable them for bugs you are CCed on).

Why would I want to notify everybody in the CC list every time I bookmark a new
bug? (aka Facebook "Like" buttons)

I want to receive updates when a bug status changes, or when someone comment on
a bug I've bookmarked, but I'm not necessarily interested in receiving an email
when someone else bookmarks the same bugs.

Also for the bug reporter? Anyway, I add myself to cc on bugs I actively follow
(and want people to know I'm following), while the vote is a passive action of
generic support and interest.

"I would prefer that you didn't submit this" is too personal and negative.

One of the goals of the switch to Git and Gerrit is to make MediaWiki
development more welcoming to newbies by making sending patches easier. This
message does exactly the opposite - it essentially tells the person who wrote
the patch: "Your work is bad, you wasted your time and my time and I don't like
you".

A better wording would be something like this: "This commit must be fixed
before merging". Even SVN's "FIXME" is much better than "I would prefer that
you didn't submit this", because it's immediately clear that it's a technical
and not a personal thing.

I also commented about this in the Gerrit bug tracker [1], but if it's possible
to fix it locally, it should be done ASAP.

I don't really understand it either. And really, I think some of it comes back
to people thinking the votes mean something when they don't.

For example (now fixed) form 9th March: [[:commons:Category:7th-century
conflicts]] has the sub cats [[:commons:Category:620s conflicts]],

but they were not shown on [[:commons:Category:7th-century conflicts]].
[[:commons:Category:680s conflicts]] ''was'' shown. The template which sets the
cat  [[:commons:template:ConflictsDecade]] was not edited for a long time. A
fix was done by null-editing the subcat pages. Now they show up correctly. 

This problem may may lead to apparently empty categories but in fact only the
sub cats are not shown ''currently''. This problem appeared in December 2011 in
dewp: [[:de:Wikipedia Diskussion:Mentorenprogramm/Archiv/2011/Dezember#nur
nochmal zur anschauung|MP]],
[[:de:Wikipedia:Administratoren/Anfragen/Archiv/2011/Dezember#Benutzer:Ianusius/Mentees|AAF]].
 

Another example: [[:de:Spezial:Unbenutzte Kategorien]] lists currently (cached
version 2012-03-19, 19:59:03) [[:de:Kategorie:User hes-1]],
[[:de:Kategorie:User hes-3]], [[:de:Kategorie:User hes-4]]
([[:de:Kategorie:User hes-2]] is not listed since it contains also a user page)
although they contain the page [[:de:Wikipedia:Babel/Dialekt/hes]] (created on
2012-02-20). This page was nulledited yesterday to workaround the problem. 

Example 3:
[[:de:Wikipedia:Dateiüberprüfung/Lokal_behaltbare,_aber_auf_Commons_gefährdete_Dateien]]
was listed in [[:de:Kategorie:Wikipedia:Dateiüberprüfung/Besondere Fälle]] but
this category did not appear on the page. Apparent reason: the category was set
via a template ([[:de:... /Vorlage]]) which sets the category if the linked
file is missing. The linked file was missing when the link was created (using
the template) but was created afterwards. The category list on the page was
correctly updated but the page was not delisted on the category page. A
nulledit on the page (IIRC) to the page fixed it.

So yes, works for me on kn interface. But should this check be on the language
of wiki / language of the page instead of interface language of the user?

Removing chrome since its was observed on Firefox / Chromium after using en
interface.

https://ro.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Cafenea#Liste_de_discutii and has met
with a predictable lack of interest.

As the list admin, I kindly ask the site admins to close this list.

can you please provide a little more info. I checked ODT export in
en.wikipedia, en.wikiversity and pt.wikipedia and everything worked smoothly.

Can you share the URL of that page? If there is any parent node with lang=kn
the rules will apply. But looking at similar pages as in screenshot, I see it
is only 'en'. If there is a way to tell that first heading is in language kn,
the language specific rules will make bigger line height.
