[Bug 37662] New: Changing $wgUploadNavigationUrl for da.wikipedia

2012-06-17 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37662

   Web browser: ---
 Bug #: 37662
   Summary: Changing $wgUploadNavigationUrl for da.wikipedia
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: All
OS/Version: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: Site configuration
AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
ReportedBy: wiki...@gmail.com
CC: wikimedia.b...@snowolf.eu
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

Per discussion on Danish Wikpedia (
http://da.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Landsbybr%C3%B8nden/L%C3%A6g_en_fil_op_(2)
) we would like to have $wgUploadNavigationUrl (
http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:$wgUploadNavigationUrl ) set for the
following URL:

http://commons.wikimedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:UploadWizard&campaign=dk&uselang=da

Intent is to get people to upload directly to Commons instead (using a crafted
campaign specifically tailored for people coming from Danish Wikipedia).

In kind regards,
Henrik
User:Heb and administrator on Danish Wikpedia and Wikimedia Commons

The community decides to patrol edits with delta > 500 (which can be filtered
with AF tagging + tagfilter). To achieve this, I guess we have to enable RC
patrol and just ask users to ignore the rest.

Hi Carl & Ingo, thank you for the patch!

As you may already know, MediaWiki is currently revamping its PHP-based parser
into a "Parsoid" prototype component, to support the rich-text Visual Editor
project:

   https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Parsoid
   https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Visual_editor

Folks interested in enhancing the parser's capabilities are very much welcome
to join the Parsoid project, and contribute patches as Git branches:

   https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Git/Tutorial#How_to_submit_a_patch

Compared to .diff attachments in Bugzilla tickets, Git branches are much easier
for us to review, refine and merge features together.

Each change set has a distinct URL generated by the "git review" tool, which
can be referenced in Bugzilla by pasting its gerrit.wikimedia.org URL as a
comment.

If you run into any issues with the patch process, please feel free to ask on
irc.freenode.net #wikimedia-dev and the wikitext-l mailing list. Thank you!

Indeed looks good (or better ;) now!

Could it be the case that the get times increased too, e.g. compared to May?

The patch is trivial, and doesn't really need review for correctness, but I
never committed it because I was unsure if it would fix more pages than it
broke. If someone else wants to try, they should feel free.

Right now, after MediaWiki 1.16 there is no way to transfer LocalSettings.php,
instead one must download it and then upload it. The former way works better
for some, so there should be a choice to either download or directly upload the
LocalSettings.php file. This has impacted hosts like DreamHost, forcing their
autoinstaller to only install MediaWiki 1.16.

[Bug 37665] New: IPTCTest::testIPTCParseForcedUTFButInvalid failure on PHP 5.4 (iconv behavior change)

   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: 1.20-git

Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

Created attachment 10763
  --> https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=10763
iconv-test.c

Our test IPTCTest::testIPTCParseForcedUTFButInvalid verifies that when feeding
image metadata marked as UTF-8 but with non-UTF-8 bytes, the bad bytes will be
dropped and the sane UTF-8 kept.

This was the behavior of iconv() in php < 5.4 as can be tested with
 var_dump( iconv("UTF-8", "UTF-8//IGNORE", "\xC3\xC3\xC3\xB8") );

The behavior of iconv(3) (with IGNORE) is to provide the good bytes *and*
report the error. That can be tested with the attached program.

The fact that when not using IGNORE, the were returned was reported as a bug in
https://bugs.php.net/52211 and fixed in e3fdf3 by always returning an empty
string.

So our parsing of IPTC data is now different (wrong?) on PHP 5.4

We can:
- Set the empty string as the correct output (remove/change the test)
- Verify UTF-8 correctness ourselves (using UtfNormal::cleanUp() seems the
appropiate one, we could then remove utf-8 replacement char if a slient skip is
really desired).
- Request php iconv() behavior to change back / add a new flag.

Hi Kkkdc, thank you for the patch!

Thank you!

Hi Jakub, thank you for the patch!

Thank you!

No, it's not. Definitely client. The anchor tag is never sent as part of the
HTTP request by any browser, it is only interpreted locally within the browser.

I'm not sure if a browser is supposed to carry over the anchor part of the URL
when redirected. If it is then this is an upstream bug with the browser. WFM in
Chrome 19 and Firefox 13, marking this bug as such.

--- Comment #2 from Pine 2012-06-17 20:08:33 UTC ---
Hi Dereckson,

I can't reopen bugs because I currently lack the required permissions here on
Wikimedia Bugzilla.

Here are some sample steps to reproduce this bug.

# Use an unprivileged account.
# Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:AbuseFilter to see a list of
active public and private filters. Note which filters are public and which are
private.
# Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:AbuseLog
# In the "Filter ID" field, type the number of a private filter.
# You now see a list of all logged entries from public filters, which is not
the desired behavior.

Note that if you instead do the following:

# Use an unprivileged account
# Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:AbuseFilter to see a list of
active public and private filters. Note which filters are public and which are
private.
# Click on the name or number of a private filter, such as by clicking
"Prodego's test filter".
# You get an error message as should be expected.

Does this help?

So, in short: When filtering to a private filter in Special:AbuseLog, all

Confirming bug. I know this exists, basically a private abuse filter will have
private logs but looking at the log view of the filter will show you the public
log entries instead of saying you don't have permission to view the logs of the
private filter. Previous bug to implement private filter logs was

It's a good point to stop URL autodetection on dashes, but I think it'd be
preferible to leave the rule simply as "urls run until whitespace" (current
behavior), closing this as WONTFIX.

I agree with Platonides. How would a user make a link to the actual page with
an em-dash in the title (not counting "per cent encoding" as a viable
alternative since "nobody" knows about that).

For example, the Wikipedia article about en-dash:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/–

Requiring whitespace to be between the url and another part of the sentence
seems like a sane requirement to me. And if in the weird exception somebody
prefers to have them next to each other without a space (even if that is
grammatically correct, I don't know), then one can always use the full syntax:

"I like [http://example.com/path/ http://example.com/path]―do you?"

I agree with Platonides- better to have simple and relatively predictable

some characters while leaving out others would make the behavior harder to
predict.

Is this like "canonical url" for pages that show content primary addressable
from a different url?

MediaWiki redirects don't use 302 or 301, but just show the content of the
intended page with a small note under the title indicating the redirect.

I have some some additional questions:
B. What's the link text of the diff link $3? A page title, so for example
"User_talk:Siebrand"?
C. What does "formatted" mean in the description of $2?

[1] 'notification-edit-talk-page' => '$2 edited your talk page $3'

Documented as:
Format for displaying notifications of a user talk page being edited

*$1 is the username of the person who edited, plain text.
*$2 is the username of the person who edited, formatted.
*$3 is a diff link, formatted.
