https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=37665 Web browser: --- Bug #: 37665 Summary: IPTCTest::testIPTCParseForcedUTFButInvalid failure on PHP 5.4 (iconv behavior change) Product: MediaWiki Version: 1.20-git Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: File management AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: platoni...@gmail.com CC: bawolff...@gmail.com, bryan.tongm...@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- Created attachment 10763 --> https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=10763 iconv-test.c Our test IPTCTest::testIPTCParseForcedUTFButInvalid verifies that when feeding image metadata marked as UTF-8 but with non-UTF-8 bytes, the bad bytes will be dropped and the sane UTF-8 kept. This was the behavior of iconv() in php < 5.4 as can be tested with var_dump( iconv("UTF-8", "UTF-8//IGNORE", "\xC3\xC3\xC3\xB8") ); The behavior of iconv(3) (with IGNORE) is to provide the good bytes *and* report the error. That can be tested with the attached program. The fact that when not using IGNORE, the were returned was reported as a bug in https://bugs.php.net/52211 and fixed in e3fdf3 by always returning an empty string. So our parsing of IPTC data is now different (wrong?) on PHP 5.4 We can: - Set the empty string as the correct output (remove/change the test) - Verify UTF-8 correctness ourselves (using UtfNormal::cleanUp() seems the appropiate one, we could then remove utf-8 replacement char if a slient skip is really desired). - Request php iconv() behavior to change back / add a new flag. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. As you may already know, MediaWiki is currently revamping its PHP-based parser into a "Parsoid" prototype component, to support the rich-text Visual Editor project: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Parsoid https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Visual_editor Folks interested in enhancing the parser's capabilities are very much welcome to join the Parsoid project, and contribute patches as Git branches: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Git/Tutorial#How_to_submit_a_patch Compared to .diff attachments in Bugzilla tickets, Git branches are much easier for us to review, refine and merge features together. Each change set has a distinct URL generated by the "git review" tool, which can be referenced in Bugzilla by pasting its gerrit.wikimedia.org URL as a comment. Note which filters are public and which are private. # Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:AbuseLog # In the "Filter ID" field, type the number of a private filter. # You now see a list of all logged entries from public filters, which is not the desired behavior. Note that if you instead do the following: # Use an unprivileged account # Go to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:AbuseFilter to see a list of active public and private filters. Note which filters are public and which are private. # Click on the name or number of a private filter, such as by clicking "Prodego's test filter". # You get an error message as should be expected. How would a user make a link to the actual page with an em-dash in the title (not counting "per cent encoding" as a viable alternative since "nobody" knows about that). For example, the Wikipedia article about en-dash: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/– Requiring whitespace to be between the url and another part of the sentence seems like a sane requirement to me. And if in the weird exception somebody prefers to have them next to each other without a space (even if that is grammatically correct, I don't know), then one can always use the full syntax: "I like [http://example.com/path/ http://example.com/path]―do you?" -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
