[Bug 39532] Don't process some items in Belarusian monuments lists
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39532 --- Comment #3 from Effeietsanders effeietsand...@wikipedia.be 2012-08-26 08:37:38 UTC --- So basically what Paul wants is that these copyrighted monuments don't show up in the tools. A possible workaround is to remove them temporarily from the database, a nicer way would be to add an extra field 'copyright status' or something, and not to display those monuments in the tools. It seems to me that https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=38462 is half the solution. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. Listing all subpages makes the list of uncategorized pages completely useless for categorization work. For instance a couple years ago I categorized all pages which needed to be categorized on Meta-Wiki and even after this work there were more than 1200 pages listed there, of which only 65 actually needed to be categorized ([[m:User:Nemo bis/Uncategorized non-subpages]]) and a half shared a handful common basepages (cf. [Bug 39667] New: Divide wikis into database lists by approximate size for performance engineering
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39667 Web browser: --- Bug #: 39667 Summary: Divide wikis into database lists by approximate size for performance engineering Product: Wikimedia Version: unspecified Platform: All OS/Version: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: General/Unknown AssignedTo: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org ReportedBy: b...@mzmcbride.com Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- There are a number of bugs in which small wikis are unfairly impacted by the performance constraints of large wikis. For example, many Special pages have been disabled across all Wikimedia wikis (cf. bug 15434). A small wiki such as ch.wikipedia.org, with 151 content pages, is treated the same as a wiki with over four million content pages. This doesn't make any sense. This situation is unacceptable. A small wiki should not see a reduced user experience because of the existence of (almost entirely unrelated) wikis that have millions of content pages. We know the approximate sizes involved, so we should be able to safely and sanely tier these wikis (and then periodically check those tiers for accuracy and appropriateness). While we all wish that every wiki could be treated equally, it doesn't make any sense to punish small wikis indefinitely due to circumstances over which they have no control or involvement (i.e., an explosion in growth on a sibling project). Some stats are available at https://wiki.toolserver.org/view/Wiki_server_assignments. There are other lists at Meta-Wiki, I believe. And I can query the *links tables for size if that's deemed necessary. As far I as understand this, step one would be to make a set of groupings and then create individual wiki lists. Or perhaps just have a small.dblist or a large.dblist and add conditional statements based on that? It looks like a small.dblist may already exist, even? Is that a list of small wikis (https://noc.wikimedia.org/conf/small.dblist doesn't load for me)? -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. We are yet to have a comment here about which queries are do-able for smaller wikis; yet more might be optimisable enough to run on larger wikis. There's no way I can advocate sweeping these pages under the rug until that issue is looked into. Hence why I left an exception there (but commented) as an option instead of silently discarding the flag, as that particular flag simply doesn't make sense with Postgres and should be treated as a bug. Any number is going to be arbitrary. Maybe the actual first step is to write a maintenance script that can evaluate the size of the wikis in the cluster and then output a file based on their sizes (with a --size flag or something). So it'd be something like php measureWikis.php --size=1 large.dblist or something? Measuring the number of content pages is probably easiest, as it's a stored value (in site_stats) and it gives a decent comparison between wikis (or it should in theory, at least). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 28710] enhancement request: make frequently updated special pages update themselves automatically
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28710 Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added Status|REOPENED|RESOLVED CC||krinklem...@gmail.com Resolution||DUPLICATE --- Comment #5 from Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com 2012-08-26 16:52:02 UTC --- I'm closing this bug because imho it is too generic to be feasible. (In reply to comment #0) It would be nice if frequently updated special pages, such as Recent Changes, Watchlist, Block log, Page creation log, page history and possibly others, would live-update themselves frequently, in the style of identi.ca. RC patrollers would probably appreciate it. They are all special pages, and you could make a gadget in 10 minutes that just polls itself and auto-refreshes with AJAX. That would work fine, but is not very flexible, efficient and has some usability issues (e.g. the page is replaced, and whatever you were doing is gone). So that is not a way we can do it in core, but one could create a gadget that does that. Having said that, whatever the solution is going to be, it should be optimized for the specific use case. For example, for patrolling recent changes the (imho) most appropiate solution is to make use of a push feed in the browser and implement a proper patrolling workflow (see bug 5560 for that, which depends on bug 29305). So for the most common use case requested in this bug, it is a dupe of bug 5560 / bug 29305. The other examples (refreshing block log...), those are already covered by recent changes. And if so desired, it could be easily implemented on those individual special pages as well - that is, as soon as we have it working for the catch-all recent changes. (for the individual special pages one just tabs into the same feed, listen for rc.type=log where log_action is block, and then use the interface messages / html templates to inject list items on the page). *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 5560 *** -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 39649] CodeEditor extension's tab key behavior is slightly infuriating
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39649 --- Comment #5 from Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com 2012-08-26 16:59:36 UTC --- I believe in the scope of a code editor (not on the web in general) it is more likely that the user is looking (and expecting) to indent code with Tab, than to transfer the browser focus to the focusable element. Given that CodeEditor context, I think Esc is just fine without additional discoverability requirements. I mean, it is more important that we can use tab to indent then to use tab to transfer focus. Having to use Esc is not ideal, but I think it's worth the trade of given these choices (if anyone has another idea, that's always welcome of course). -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39667 --- Comment #3 from Krinkle krinklem...@gmail.com 2012-08-26 17:03:36 UTC --- (In reply to comment #1) This looks useful: http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/List_of_Wikimedia_projects_by_size Where should the line be between a large and a small wiki? That Meta page is auto-generated based on Special:Statistics, which in turn is just queryable from the sitestats database table. So (not to be nitpicky), just to be clear if and when we're going to use a server-side script to create dblists[1] groups by pagecount; it can simply use the db directly, no need to use that wiki page. [Bug 39664] A single vote confirms a bug
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=39664 --- Comment #3 from Mark A. Hershberger m...@everybody.org 2012-08-26 18:23:38 UTC --- The users in the canconfirm group have other permissions -- like the ability to change the resolution of the bug -- that were being abused. I did look at recent users of BZ before putting them in the canconfirm group. Random people can still leave comments (and I think we want to keep that), but only people in the canconfirm group can close it or otherwise change the status. As for confirming bugs, yes, one vote on the bug shouldn't confirm it. I hadn't yet spent time analyzing just how that should work. The unconfirmed/confirmed status could still be really useful, though. If we can get 5 votes for the bug or one person with canconfirm to confirm it, then moving it to CONFIRMED would be useful. My use of confirmed/unconfirmed wasn't really well thought and would have matured over time, so there is definitely room for improvement. -- Configure bugmail: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug.
