https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=28085 MZMcBride changed: What|Removed |Added CC||b...@mzmcbride.com --- Comment #18 from MZMcBride --- (In reply to comment #11) > I think this issue may be non-resolvable. There is a problem that has not > been addressed so far: MediaWiki allows registering multiple user names with > the same e-mail address. I don't think this is unresolvable. Following Daniel's suggestion in comment 9, what we'd do here is always prefer a username over an e-mail address. This would retain existing functionality/behavior. For e-mail addresses that match multiple accounts, the user would be presented with an option post-login to select which of the accounts to log in as. Obviously this would only work with accounts that have an authenticated e-mail address. Such cases are terribly common given "public" accounts, bot accounts, etc. However, given the proposed precedence (preferring username over e-mail address), this change shouldn't really get in anyone's way. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45684 Web browser: --- Bug ID: 45684 Summary: getExpandedArguments should not count toward the 10-second Lua execution limit Product: MediaWiki extensions Version: unspecified Hardware: All OS: All Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: Scribunto Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org Reporter: mman...@gmail.com CC: tstarl...@wikimedia.org, vasi...@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- Per discussion at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:VPT#Lua_10-second_timeout_unusable_for_articles If you transclude a Lua-powered template such as: {{bananas| <... complicated parserfunctions ...> }} the input parameter is apparently not computed until the Module behind the template accesses frame.args, which invokes Scribunto_LuaSandboxCallback::getExpandedArgument. The time spent preprocessing the parameters is thus counted against the 10-second time limit on Lua execution. This violates my expectations as an editor. In my simplistic mental model of the parser, the template parameters are processed before any Lua code is invoked. It has caused a problem on enwp, where {{hexadecimal}}, a simple decimal-to-hexadecimal conversion template, has been converted to Lua. In {{weather box}}, some complex parser functions are used, and the results are passed into {{hexadecimal}}, dozens of times. On pages with several weather boxes, Lua timeouts result. On [[Climate of Russia]], for instance, 8s of Lua time is spent in getExpandedArgument. This could probably be fixed by converting {{weather box}} to Lua as well, but there are many templates that need conversion, and it seems unwise to distort editor priorities this way. Per BJorsch in the linked VPT thread, "The counting of calls into PHP against the time limit in general is intentional, but there is a good case for making an exception for getExpandedArguments()." -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 45627] Add wikidata revision id to article's html
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45627 --- Comment #4 from jeb...@gmail.com --- Something like this? https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/51976/ Note that the revision stuff does not work, its just in there to show a codeflow. The item id stuff works. In a client it seems like the page (article in wikipedia) either uses one revision everywhere, or either the sitelinks or the statements use a newer revision than the opposite. That mean we could list the revision for each block that might get out of sync with the rest. I'm not sure how we can handle a page consisting of blocks from several revisions.. But in theory parts should be kept if they are not changed, so the last known revision should be good enough. There is a revision id in the change propagation, we could use that instead of trying to request it from the repo. In some newer changesets we keep the iten id for later, we could do the same for the items revision id. Unless anything triggers a rebuild of the page it can be assumed to use the same revision, and if only parts of the page changes the other parts would be the same anyhow. Yes that could work. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. [Bug 45669] GeSHi uses a highly recursive regex for number highlighting
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45669 Brad Jorsch changed: What|Removed |Added Keywords||code-update-regression CC||bjor...@wikimedia.org, ||o...@wikimedia.org Summary|Module page truncates very |GeSHi uses a highly |large modules |recursive regex for number ||highlighting --- Comment #1 from Brad Jorsch --- This seems to be due to Gerrit change 49985, which also explains why it suddenly screwed up upon crossing 200K. For number highlighting, GeSHi uses a regex that includes "(?!(?:|(?>[^\<]))+>)". If there is too long of a run in the text without anything being highlighted other than numbers, this can easily exceed the pcre recursion limit (which is currently set very low on WMF wikis, see bug 36839 for a similar issue) and causes GeSHi to lose the entire chunk. Possible fixes include changing that regex (defined on geshi/geshi.php line 2135) to "(?!(?:|(?>[^\<]+))+>)" which is much less likely to hit the recursion limit or disabling number highlighting along with string highlighting. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. This is a conceptual request > because there is an idea of a possible software feature ("marking blocks that > were made in error") that doesn't have a clear implementation strategy. > The "clear implementation strategy" was discussed in the Village Pump thread. What is proposed is a MediaWiki software change to replace the "1-second block" with something that simply adds a line in the block log with administrator comments that can be used for anything including explaining that previous blocks were done in error. It could insert a link to a larger discussion or even a URL. The goal to this request is explicitly to avoid marking a bad block by performing yet another block on the user. It is possible that one way to implement this is simply to treat 1 second blocks as administrative actions and to not have them be displayed formally as a block, but instead to have any commentary listed explicitly as an annotation. In other words, it would be mostly a redesign of the user interface that the administrators view when looking at user information. That seems like a very minor and mostly cosmetic change to MediaWiki, but I would hope that those who maintain the software would offer feedback on this issue. What I really don't understand is why this request will be completely ignored and admins encouraged to used the kludge which is the 1-second block. IMHO this is a bug, even if it is a cosmetic issue rather than a major functional problem. Regular users of MediaWiki software (on en.wikipedia the highest profile project using this software) have suggested a change, which is what this request is all about. There might be other ways to implement this as well, so feedback is certainly requested. That a feature like this may be of interest to administrators on projects other than en.wikipedia is also further justification for raising this here. Besides, changes done because of issues raised by users on en.wikipedia have often been beneficial to other MediaWiki users. That is furthermore why I think discussions of cleansing block logs after five years (or some other very arbitrary time span) or anything else tangential really is irrelevant to the discussion at hand. The main issue at hand, to cut to the chase, really is about a way to express from one administrator to another that a user block was done in bad faith or in error. Sometimes through either neglect or simply human failings the unblock action is insufficient to accommodate this explanation. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug.
