[Bug 46736] New: elements in the wb-terms table lack relevant lang and dir attributes
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46736 Web browser: --- Bug ID: 46736 Summary: elements in the wb-terms table lack relevant lang and dir attributes Product: MediaWiki extensions Version: unspecified Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Keywords: i18n Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: WikidataRepo Assignee: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org Reporter: amir.ahar...@mail.huji.ac.il CC: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org, wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org Blocks: 36637 Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- A useful feature introduced several weeks shows a table of item titles and descriptions in the user's languages above the sitelinks and the statements and allows editing them. There's a problem with it: It lacks relevant lang and dir attributes. They must be applied to: * Every language name link, such as a href=?setlang=vepvepsän kel’/a. It's OK to apply it to the a element - it doesn't have to be applied to the whole td. So it must be: a href=?setlang=vep lang=vep dir=ltrvepsän kel’/a. (Consider also hreflang.) * Every item label td: wb-terms-label * Every item description td: wb-terms-description * Every input box for labels and description: wb-ui-propertyedittool-editablevalueinterface. Currently it explicitly has lang and dir of the user interface language. It must have the lang and the dir of the row's language. (Consider also loading the message for the placeholder text in that language; currently it's all in the same language.) -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. [Bug 46729] Ask queries return deleted pages
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46729 --- Comment #3 from Al Johnson alj62...@yahoo.com --- Markus, I'm not so sure this is a duplicate of 18406. Results include result objects that where deleted, not that contain properties whose value pages were deleted. If ALL properties pointing to the deleted page are also removed, along with the page itself, the page is still returned in the query results. In other words, if I deleted every page in my wiki, I would still get results. Furthermore, the suggestion in that bug to query on Modification date to exclude deleted page objects definitely does not work. There is also an inconsistency regarding this: If Page Foo has been deleted, the query [[Foo]] returns no results! Correct! But, a query on some property that Foo used to have: [[Modification date::+]] WILL return Foo. I can't imagine this ever being expected behavior. Deleted pages should not be returned ever for any reason and I am lost as to how one is expected to deal with results that are questionable... do another query on each result to see if it actually still exists??? Seriously... Please fix or provide a reasonable and practical workaround. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. From the original post, it was just a duplicate of Bug 18406. With your new description, this is no longer possible, so I am reopening this bug as not being a duplicate. I know of no issue that could lead to pages being returned in queries that require that presence of properties which have been deleted (or never existed). Jeroen's comment indicates that it might be due to a problem that has now been solved (if property deletion is broken, this would also fit your description). But if this is the case, then it seems we can just close this bug as fixed. This behavior causes problems primarily on Vietnamese-language wikis, in which nearly all namespace names are compound words. For example, templates imported from the English Wikipedia often contain subtle bugs because {{SUBJECTSPACE}} is compared to the output of {{NS:…}}. The workaround is to always specify the page name explicitly, i.e. {{SUBJECTSPACE:{{FULLPAGENAME, but it is quite inconvenient to have to continually add this workaround to templates copied from other wikis. Moreover, the English Wikipedia’s “Education Program” namespace and English Wiktionary’s “Sign gloss” namespace are also affected, as would any project namespace named with a compound word. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. That looks similar to https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45932 , btw. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 46744] ULS front-end should not appear by default and should instead detect for the intended use cases
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46744 --- Comment #6 from MZMcBride b...@mzmcbride.com --- (In reply to comment #5) I dont find any reason for not giving a turn off option in the preferences section. Well, we really want to avoid user preferences bloat. Every additional user preference has a somewhat significant cost (in terms of interface clutter, technical debt, etc.). That said, the default behavior here seems a bit strange. For example, on Meta-Wiki, I have en set as my user interface language and yet I still see this somewhat annoying drop-down next to the edit summary input and the search input. As someone who has absolutely no need for a different input method (my keyboard works just fine), I don't see why I'm being presented with such a drop-down menu. Something seems amiss here. Generally, UniversalLanguageSelector's scope and purpose is unclear to me. As someone who writes and reads in English, I have no need for this drop-down menu or the english link in the personal tools section. It'd be nice to not add clutter to the interface for users like me. It also seems that UniversalLanguageSelector's scope has increased from being a universal language selector to also providing display preferences (e.g., I can select OpenDyslexic as my display font via ULS). It doesn't seem like a great idea to mix purposes like this. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 45964] New WMF-deployed extensions should honor the Exclude me from feature experiments user preference
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45964 --- Comment #6 from Ori Livneh o...@wikimedia.org --- (In reply to comment #0) The current trend seems to be making MediaWiki software/Wikimedia Foundation websites more newbie-friendly, which is what I'm all for, but it should not interfere with power users' options. Good recent examples of this are the PostEdit and Universal Language Selector extensions, both of which are deployed on MediaWiki.org at least (where I'm an admin) and both of which cannot be turned off without CSS/JS hackery. This in unacceptable in my opinion. Power users should not find it especially difficult to add a line to their Common.css user stylesheet, but I accept that they should not have to poke around code to figure out which rule to add. I made sure the requisite CSS code is featured prominently on the extension's page on mediawiki.org: http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:PostEdit#Disabling I understand why you might think this is an inferior solution. The addition of an explicit preference doubles as a kind of implicit acknowledgement that the feature in question could be obtrusive or annoying to established users, and thus it expresses civility and respect, whereas a workaround does not. But in this particular case, the change required is really very small, and probably does not take up much more time than hunting around for a preference. So I hope you will find it an adequate solution, if an imperfect one. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 46748] New: Make a more specific interface for special:Upload when reuploading over an existing file
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46748 Web browser: --- Bug ID: 46748 Summary: Make a more specific interface for special:Upload when reuploading over an existing file Product: MediaWiki Version: unspecified Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: Uploading Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org Reporter: zhoris...@gmail.com CC: bryan.tongm...@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- Special:Upload uses almost the same interface when uploading a new version over an existing file as it does when uploading a new file. From what I can tell currently only the licensing field is removed when reuploading. While that's a start, more is needed: The reupload form should have a distinct id to more easily distinguish between it and the new upload form. There should be a separate upload-summary for reuploads (reupload-summary?) - the upload-summary system message is often used by projects for information specific to new uploads, sometimes quite a bit of information, and that tends to be less relevant when reuploading. 'Permitted file types' should either be removed or replaced with a note that reuploading only supports uploading a new version with the same filetype. 'Destination filename' should be removed - the destination is implicit in that it's a reupload. 'File changes' should be a single-line input like edit summaries and other inputs that wind up as log entries; along with the usual reasons (limited supported length, user inclination to hit enter at the end of a summary to submit, etc), having it as a full textarea also implies to the user that it is a description, when it in fact has no effect on the file description itself and only appears in the file history. The edittools should not appear here if the charinsert extension is used - while this is an issue with said extension, changing the file changes field per above may resolve this part anyway. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. They are only removed on the next edit or via null-edit. Neither purging the cat nor the image page removes the cat, gadgets like cat-a-lot can't remove it either because the cat is not present for them. Reported for Commons with currently 2.500 images in this cat, many/most of them seem to be false positives. Even after modifying MediaWiki:Broken-file-category to have User pages in a separate cat not a single of the ~3.000 pages has been placed there, requires a null-edit to have an effect on the cat placement (or removal). Without editing the new cat is shown on User pages originally placed in the old cat although upon editing they are shown as member of the old cat. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.
