There is code to check whether the element to attach to is missing. If so, the
position is currently set to 0, so it appears in the center. However, if the
element later is present (due to a changing DOM), the original position is not
recovered.

A related issue is that the arrow is updated properly (assuming the current
position is correct), but an arrow is never removed. So if a DOM element later
is removed, the guider will show in the center, but the arrow will still be
present.

In this module :
https://test2.wikipedia.org/wiki/Module:Auteur
I display some errors (red colored) to guide the user to use the template. I
can display them in some namespaces and not in others. But this is not OK
because some errors must disappear when the user validate the page, then they
must not disturb the simple reader.
Then I ask for a way to detect EDIT state from Lua level.

[Bug 47770] Searching for strings without letters or numbers returns error without description ("An error has occurred while searching: The search backend returned an error:")

I opened bug 51661 for the characters outside the BMP. If the user enters a
search that doesn't contain any indexed character, one can't expect a sensible
result. But of course there should be a descriptive error message, like "Sorry,
there are no results because no part of your search is in the search index.
Please add some letters or numbers to your search to get a result."

According to the observations in bug 47770 the search treats all characters
otside the BMP as pairs of surrogates and removes them as not indexable.
Instead the indexer and the frontend should both treat them as normal
characters and index and search for them if they are letters according to their
Unicode General Category.

It would be useful if ULS could provide CSS definitions like

.script-buginese {
 font-family: Saweri, sans-serif;
}

Currently one has to use a lang="bug" on the element, but this isn't ideal from
a semantical point of view, as the Buginese script isn't used to only write
Buginese language, but also for some other languages. So in an article about
the script it isn't correct to add language attributes. With such classes
authors could easily tell ULS to embed the fonts to display the characters to
all users.

[Bug 51643] put wikibase setup code into $wgExtensionFunctions

Daniel Kinzler  changed:

   What|Removed |Added

--- Comment #2 from Daniel Kinzler  ---
This should not happen at all:

Bad initialization order: When running
the Wikibase repository extension and the WikibaseClient extension on the same
wiki, WikibaseClient has to be included AFTER the repository.

There should currently be no Wikimedia site running both these extensions.

Or does this only happen with localization updates, because that loads
everything?

Anyway, $wgExtensionFunctions[] is not an option: the include order is enforced
to avoid overriding of default settings, which of course are applied directly
when the extension is included in LocalSettings. I do not see a way to use
$wgExtensionFunctions to improve the situation.

A user on English Wikipedia requests that templates such as navigation boxes

"Currently, navigation boxes are always uncollapsed when editing. This can be
quite annoying when having to deal with big ones like {{The Beatles}}, e.g. on
"I'm a Loser", also it might be confusing editors into believing that this part

If you want to move an image to the start of a section in Visual Editor the
logical course of action is to drag it to before the first character of the
first word of the section.

A user of Firefox 21 reports this does not work at all, in my testing in
Firefox 22 it appears to work only occasionally.

The counter-intuitive dragging the image to after the last character of the
section title does work.

[Bug 51668] New: Stuff we vary on leaks into X-Vary-Options

Bug ID: 51668
   Summary: Stuff we vary on leaks into X-Vary-Options
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal

 Component: MobileFrontend

Our current xvo on enwiki is:

X-Vary-Options:
Accept-Encoding;list-contains=gzip,X-WAP,Cookie;string-contains=enwikiToken;string-contains=enwikiLoggedOut;string-contains=enwiki_session;string-contains=centralauth_Token;string-contains=centralauth_Session;string-contains=centralauth_LoggedOut;string-contains=mf_useformat,X-CS,X-Subdomain,X-Images

Note that it requests Accept-Encoding to vary on presence of X-WAP and Cookie
on X-CS,X-Subdomain,X-Images:P While it's harmless, it shouldn't be here.

In

the no-repeat is last in the decleration, while the "normal" position is
directly after the url. Probably the broken browsers expect the different parts
in the normal order and don't interprete them correctly otherwise.

When dragging an item in the visual editor (tested with image and text), the
editing window does not scroll up or down when you reach the top or bottom of
the window. This means you have to make several consecutive drag and drop
actions to move an item within a long article/section. Per Bug 51665 the image
must be separately selected before you are able to drag it (i.e. each movement
requires two mouse clicks).

Two screenshots showing the search function applied to {{cite book}} on en.wp

A user on the English Wikipedia reports that when entering a template using the
transclusion editor, the search for parameters fails when the parameter
includes a space:

"when I start typing "Source date" (without quotes, of course) into the search
box, something interesting happens when I get to the "d" - the search results
say "Unknown parameter". That is, at the point where I've typed "Source d",
then - essentially - the search fails; the search software decides that there
are no matching entries."

I've tested this with both {{cite web}} and {{cite book}}

Going back to the original request:

(In reply to comment #0)

> Main Page tag so that there's no need to
> patch .js files for removing this tag -- this means each time MediWiki is
> updated, the patches have to be rolled in. It would be better if this
> main page tag could be enabled or disabled per configuration setting.

This can be done easily via MediaWiki:Common.css, which will not be modified in
upgrades.

On the other hand, it is a usual practice for any website not to call
explicitly "Main Page", "Homepage", etc the main page. Just go out there and
try to find such explicit mention in any decent website.

Therefore, I think the proper fix for this report would be to offer out of the
box no heading for the article defined as Main Page. The heading would still be
there, just hidden via CSS. This way webmaster interested in having it could
enable it by simply rewriting the rule at MediaWiki:Common.css.

If you think this solution is wrong then let's resolve this as WONTFIX,
pointing people with this problem to the right solution.

[Bug 51101] Checkmark icon for IME repeated behind menu

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51101

--- Comment #3 from Siebrand  ---
For convenience pasting all uses of no-repeat in ULS. Sorted the occurrences in
two groups.

no-repeat immediately after URL:

lib/jquery.ime/css/jquery.ime.css:  background:
url('../images/ime-active.png') no-repeat left center;
lib/jquery.uls/css/jquery.uls.css:  background: transparent
url('../images/icon-language.png') no-repeat scroll left center;
lib/jquery.uls/css/jquery.uls.css:  background: transparent
url('../images/world_map.png') no-repeat scroll right top;
lib/jquery.uls/css/jquery.uls.css:  background: transparent
url('../images/close.png') no-repeat scroll center center;
lib/jquery.uls/css/jquery.uls.css:  background: transparent
url('../images/search.png') no-repeat scroll right center;
lib/jquery.uls/css/jquery.uls.css:  background: transparent
url('../images/clear.png') no-repeat scroll left center;

no-repeat not immediately after URL:

lib/jquery.ime/css/jquery.ime.css:  background: url(../images/tick.png)
left 4px center no-repeat;
resources/css/ext.uls.displaysettings.css:  background: transparent
url('../images/display.png') left top no-repeat;
resources/css/ext.uls.css:  background: transparent
url('../images/cog-sprite.png') right top no-repeat;
resources/css/ext.uls.css:  background: transparent
url('../images/help.png') left center no-repeat;
resources/css/ext.uls.inputsettings.css:background: transparent
url('../images/input.png') left top no-repeat;
resources/css/ext.uls.inputsettings.css:background: transparent
url('../images/remove-input.png') left top no-repeat;
resources/css/ext.uls.inputsettings.css:background: transparent
url('../images/cog.png') center top no-repeat;

Michael, are you familiar with any upstream reports on certain browsers or
rendering engines behaving badly depending on where no-repeat is positioned?
I'm not able to find a specification anywhere so far that seems to demand that
the properties are specified in a certain order.

Lack of "remove template" button in a 1366x480px Firefox 22 window on Xubuntu
Linux

In the Visual Editor template/transclusion editor the list of parameters
obscures the "remove template" button so that it can only be clicked if you
enter the name of a non-existant parameter into the search box. See attachment
to bug 51671

Even this does not help when the window is too small for it to be displayed
(see attachment).

Both problems could be solved by either:
*making the window scroll (separately from making the parameter list scroll);
and/or
*moving the "Remove template" button next to the "save changes" button (which
would probably be more logical than placing it under "options" - see also bug
51135).

The parameter search is case sensitive, requiring all lowercase input

When searching for parameters in the transclusion/template editor the search
returns "Unknown parameter" unless the search term is entirely lowercase.

If you add multiple templates in one transclusion it is possible to rearrange
them. Once rearranged, once cannot select the parameters from the first
template anymore.

Steps to reproduce:
- Open any random page in the visual Editor.
- Open the "Transclusion" window. Select the "Cite web" template and click the
"Add template" button. It should be added with two default parameters.
- Click the + icon in the bottom left of the Transclusion dialog, and click the
button to add another template.
- Add another "Cite web" template as described in step 2. Again it should come
with two default parameters.

Right now you should have a transclusion window containing two cite web
templates.

- Click the bottom template, and press the ^ icon to move that template to the
top of the list.
- Now try to click the default "Source Title" or "URL" parameter in the top
template. It is no longer possible to select or alter them.
- Extra: If you move the other template as well the same problem occurs; In
that case both template's parameters can no longer be edited.

Tested on Firefox 22 and Chrome 28 on Windows 7.

After a moments though I wonder if this might be the same issue as bug 51670,
with the search requiring input that matches the parameter as defined in the
source (which the VE user has no way of knowing) rather than the title as
displayed in the parameter list.

So hard to find that I assumed it wasn't implemented yet. Now I've seen it.

Why another icon on the top and not direct manipulation at the bottom? Show the
categories at the bottom of the page and allow adding / editing / deleting from
there. More or less the way HotCat got us used, if possible with a cleaner UI.

--- Comment #4 from Michael M.  ---
(In reply to comment #3)
> I'm not able to find a specification anywhere so far that seems to demand
> that
> the properties are specified in a certain order.

There is no such specification:
http://www.w3.org/TR/css3-background/#the-background uses || as separator in
the syntax, which means "at least one in any order"
(http://www.w3.org/TR/WD-css3-syntax-20030813/#property-def-value), so it
should work in any order. All current browsers seem to interprete the
background syntax correctly in any order.

But in FF10 I can see in the CSS inspector that the background is set to only

-moz-linear-gradient(transparent, transparent),
url("//bits.wikimedia.org/static-1.22wmf10/extensions/UniversalLanguageSelector/lib/jquery.ime/css/../images/tick.svg?2013-07-11T14:26:40Z")

so probably this issue can be fixed by moving the no-repeat to directly after
the url.

[Bug 51662] Define CSS classes for scripts with web fonts

2013-07-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51662

--- Comment #2 from Michael M.  ---
There are some advantages the classes have:

* They are more descriptive. some text is
more obvious than some
text. You had to look up the exact font names in the documentation,
while you could use classes without doing so (if you know the English name of
the script).
* They are shorter.
* Classes can be used in advance, even if there is currently no font for the
script. Then it will work once a font is added to ULS.
* Users can override the fonts in their common.css if they have a font
installed for a script they like better.

http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Template:Cassetto is AFAIK the Italian version of
Hidden (it shouldn't be used in articles).

http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Utente:Superchilum features a cassetto named Tudù
which transcludes the subpage Utente:Superchilum/do.

If you try and edit the first section in that cassetto, Varie, with the classic
editor, you correctly manage to edit the /do subpage; VE instead only allows
editing the main userpage.

Thanks.

[Bug 51677] New: Visual Editor: Rapidly multiplying pawns after editing near a link in MobileSafari on iPad

2013-07-19 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 51677
   Summary: Visual Editor: Rapidly multiplying pawns after editing
near a link in MobileSafari on iPad
   Product: VisualEditor
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: Tablet PC
OS: other
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: ContentEditable
  Assignee: i...@wikia-inc.com
  Reporter: cmcke...@sucs.org
CC: i...@wikia-inc.com, jforres...@wikimedia.org,
krinklem...@gmail.com, or...@framezero.com
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

An IP user on the English Wikipedia reports the following slightly alarming
bug:

"After I edited text near a link, "♙♙♙" characters started appearing around
once a second, and I couldn't stop them or delete them."

Based on another bug report left a few minutes later by the same user they were
using MobileSafari on iPad 2 with iOS 6.1.3

I can't replicate this in Firefox on a Linux PC and don't have an iPad to test
on.

Since other span-inserting threads are considered as fixed, see below.
All we did was changing the name of a place:

http://it.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Johann_Carl_Ludwig_Engel&diff=prev&oldid=60227407

but not

Thanks.

Since you asked,in VE test edit we had encountered it at mr wiki
http://mr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=तेकिर्दा_प्रांत&diff=prev&oldid=1189390
When I increased space.I suppose developers already may be taking care of this.

I suppose en wiki maya be needs to track nowikis with better targeted edit
filters for space and other mark up aspects.Thats my guess.

See http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Pic_-_VE_-_it_-_18_July_2013.png .

http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tellururo_di_mercurio_e_cadmio

My understanding is that unlinking can be both done by the clear formatting
button or by the trash button in the linking tool.

If you don't select exactly the word that you want to unlink (so if you include
even just a space, which I guess can surely happen), you'll be able to unlink
via the linking tool by clicking on the garbage can: but then, a weird cursor
appears and you can no longer edit links or templates.

According to me and itwp users that happens with both FF and Chrome.
