[Bug 40832] Add support for @embed of images over urls in ResourceLoader/CSSMin
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40832 --- Comment #3 from Erwin Dokter er...@darcoury.nl --- 'It only works for files stored on disk...' My gadgets often call static images in the following way: background-image: url(/w/skins/vector/images/tab-break.png); If embedding works only on relative paths, it should work on absolute paths as well. Relative paths always need to be expanded anyway, by either client or server. So it seems trivial to at least make absolute resources like the above embeddable. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=40832 Jesús Martínez Novo (Ciencia Al Poder) martinezn...@gmail.com changed: What|Removed |Added CC||martinezn...@gmail.com --- Comment #4 from Jesús Martínez Novo (Ciencia Al Poder) martinezn...@gmail.com --- Erwin: Your URL is absolute on the URL scheme, but not on the filesystem. That path doesn't exist on the filesystem. It may work if enabled (I highly doubt @embed even attempts to find the file on the local filesystem on either gadgets or skin and user CSS) but that would be tricky, since it should be relative to the current file, and those are wiki pages, not files. We may assume they should be relative to the MediaWiki installation path, but such feature may be a security breach. Imagine this code: #soemthing { /* @embed */ background-image: url(LocalSettings.php); } Or whatever file that may contain sensitive information or passwords. For that reason I think support for embedding local files on any resource that can be modified by a user (even sysops) is not feasible and shouldn't be supported at all. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 51670] Visual Editor: transculsion editor searches on parameter name not parameter label
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51670 Chris McKenna cmcke...@sucs.org changed: What|Removed |Added Summary|Visual Editor: template |Visual Editor: transculsion |parameter search fails on |editor searches on |multi-word parameter names |parameter name not ||parameter label --- Comment #1 from Chris McKenna cmcke...@sucs.org --- A user on Wikipedia has determined that the cause is that the data the search function searches on is the internal parameter name, which is invisible to the user, not the visible label. This is very wrong. So VE users have learned that the only way, in the Transclusion/Template dialog, to add a parameter is to type the parameter name, then press Enter. But that just changed - now you click the parameter name to select it. That's more obvious - but if, for some reason, having learned the old way, you continue to use it - that's trouble. Example: Cite web. Let's suppose I want to add the parameter Month of publication. I type that, hit Enter, and there it is, on the left. Except, not really. VE thinks this is a parameter not on its list - you can tell that because there is no description just above the input box where you enter the value of that parameter. (Compare to entering a value for the parameter Source title). Under the hood, here's what happens: VE knows that Source title is the label (via TemplateData) for the parameter title. (Similarly, URL is the label for the parameter url - and yes, parameters are case sensitive.) But VE doesn't know that Month of publication (typed) is the label for the parameter month. So the template code that VE actually stores is this: That doesn't cause a visible problem on the VE edit page. However, in this case, after saving the page, what is displayed to readers is Unknown parameter |Month of publication= ignored (help) Recommendation: If a person types the name of a parameter and presses Enter, VE should check the typed name against the list of labels in TemplateData, for that template, and if there is a match, handle the new parameter just as if the person had clicked the matching parameter rather than typed it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

MathML can't always be implemented naturally in HTML, so MathJax has to resort to complex constructs that don't always play nice with the rest. [Bug 51782] New: Provide a web interface for customizing an MediaWiki instance and provisioning it in the cloud or locally
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51782 Web browser: --- Bug ID: 51782 Summary: Provide a web interface for customizing an MediaWiki instance and provisioning it in the cloud or locally Product: Tools Version: unspecified Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Unprioritized Component: MediaWiki-Vagrant Assignee: o...@wikimedia.org Reporter: o...@wikimedia.org CC: o...@wikimedia.org Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- The basic idea is to have a clear and pleasant-to-use web-based interface for generating a MediaWiki instance manifest. The interface should allow you to tick off the extensions you want, for example, and it would automate the configuration of supporting software like Apache and memcached. There's an attractive example of such an interface at https://puphpet.com/. MediaWiki-Vagrant already implements the bulk of the work in that it provides a set of parametrized, MediaWiki-oriented Puppet modules and resource types. In plain English: MediaWiki-Vagrant can take a configuration file that says give me a MediaWiki instance with Scribunto and VisualEditor that is set up for development work and configure a machine to match these specifications. A number of cloud computing platforms provide hooks for uploading Puppet code to automate the creation and customization of servers. Some are event implemented as Vagrant 'providers', which means that you can run 'vagrant up' and Vagrant will create a cloud instance rather than a VirtualBox VM. Examples include vagrant-rackspace for Rackspace Cloud (https://github.com/mitchellh/vagrant-rackspace) and vagrant-aws (https://github.com/mitchellh/vagrant-aws) for Amazon AWS. A vagrant-openstack provider (https://github.com/aodn/vagrant-openstack) also exists; I don't know how much work it would take to make it work with Labs. The major work-item would be to build the web interface (or adapting the source code of https://puphpet.com/ or some other project -- there are several), ideally as a MediaWiki extension so that we can offer the ability to provision a virtual server (either local or cloud-based) right on MediaWiki.org. I think that this could considerably broaden the appeal of MediaWiki to a new generation of internet users. The success of Wikia shows that there exists considerable demand for point-and-click wiki creation. It could also help drive third-party usage of VisualEditor / parsoid, if it is true that adoption is held back by anxiety over having to configure and maintain an additional software component. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 51785] New: wikitext markup warning shows at top of page, instead of toolbar, so it's not visible
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51785 Web browser: --- Bug ID: 51785 Summary: wikitext markup warning shows at top of page, instead of toolbar, so it's not visible Product: VisualEditor Version: unspecified Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: General Assignee: jforres...@wikimedia.org Reporter: fur.hew...@gmail.com CC: jforres...@wikimedia.org, krinklem...@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- When you type [[ in visual editor, there is a wiki markup text popu (nice touch - Thanks, devs). However, this warning popup shows at top of page, so it's not visible when the page is scrolled even a few lines. VE toolbar floats at the top of the browser's page even when we edit at the middle of the article. the warning popu should do the same. REPRODUCTION INSTRUCTIONS 0) open en:The Rolling Stones 1) select one of the sections from the TOC 2) Click Edit 3) wait, wait, wait, wait... 4) close the edit notice 5) type [[ EXPECTED 1) during the wait (3 above) there is a nice image asking you to wait: this image is expected to be visible 2) when the edit notice shows up, you expect some clear way to close it. 3) when typing [[, you expect the wikitext warning popup to show up WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPEN 1) the please wait image appears, but unfortunately it's outside the screen, so you do not know why the page appears milky, and have no indication that this would eventually end. 2) depending on your luck, clicking on various parts of the page *will* close the edit notice (if you're lucky), or will take you to Rolling Stones (i.e., another page from the one you are trying to edit) if you're unlucky. 3) the warning popup appears, but it's at the top of the page, so unless you are editing the very first part of the page, you do not see it. COMMENTS: 1) VE is clever enough to have its toolbar visible even when scrolling down, using position:fixed. same should be done for the please wait image and for the warning popup(s). 2) the 1 notice and the warning triangle on the toolbar should indicate that they are the gate to hiding the notice: e.g., change the 1 Notice text to Hide notice when the notice is visible. 3) it seems that the wikitext notice is not yet translated to all languages. peace. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
[Bug 51786] New: Parsoid deletes table syntax if it doesn't recognise it as a table / the table is malformed
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51786 Web browser: --- Bug ID: 51786 Summary: Parsoid deletes table syntax if it doesn't recognise it as a table / the table is malformed Product: Parsoid Version: unspecified Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: General Assignee: gwi...@wikimedia.org Reporter: cmcke...@sucs.org CC: ssas...@wikimedia.org Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- A user on the English Wikipedia reports that when saving an edit to the lead of an article in Visual Editor, a table lower down the page was modified and broken: https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=2013_Hillsboro_Hops_seasondiff=565234138oldid=565068343 Note that it didn't alter the opening of the table. About a week prior, an edit with VE to a page in my userspace that contains an unfinished and unclosed table similarly had all the table syntax deleted exlcuding the first line of the table. https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Thryduulf/Hierarchy_of_content_decisionsdiff=564156742oldid=564156599 This is obviously very broken in that it leads to significant content corruption, even running together words in the in the second example. It doesn't happen every time, for example I wasn't able to reproduce it in my sandbox https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Thryduulf/sandboxdiff=565239631oldid=565239447 and earlier tests showed that simply removing the closing |} is not sufficient to trigger this. [Bug 51785] wikitext markup warning shows at top of page, instead of toolbar, so it's not visible
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51785 --- Comment #1 from kipod fur.hew...@gmail.com --- (In reply to comment #0) 2) depending on your luck, clicking on various parts of the page *will* close the edit notice (if you're lucky), or will take you to Rolling Stones (i.e., another page from the one you are trying to edit) if you're unlucky. peace. so here is what i mean: if you click on the page outside the edit notice, nothing happens. if you click on the edit notice itself, then it depends: some parts of the edit notice are links (including the images), and will take you elsewhere. there is no indication, because the edit notice as a whole has cursor: pointer; css attribute, so the mouse pointer looks the same everywhere on the edit notice. clicking somewhere which is not a link will close the notice, and clicking somewhere which *is* a link will take you elsewhere. again, there is little indication - e.g., moving the mouse into and out of images does not give any visible sign. clicking on the little page notice link *inside* the notice takes you elsewhere, while clicking on the 1 notice on the toolbar closes the notice. very confusing. (btw: the notice itself seems to be anchored to the toolbar rather than to the page, which is exactly what's needed for the please wait image and for the wikitext popup). peace. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
