[Bug 52311] New: When using https on Wikidata, only some Wikivoyage links use https

Bug ID: 52311
Summary: When using https on Wikidata, only some Wikivoyage
links use https
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: WikidataRepo
  Assignee: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: the.anonymouse.wikipe...@gmail.com
CC: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

When using a secure connection (https) on Wikidata, all Wikivoyage links should
link to the secure page (with the prefix https: ). However, only some
Wikivoyages are linked with https.

For example, with https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q145 (United Kingdom), here are
the results:
Uses https (when using https on Wikidata): de, en, fr, it, nl, ru, sv
Does not use https (regardless of using https on Wikidata): el, es, he, pl, pt,
ro, uk

The results are consistent across other items with Wikivoyage links, such as
https://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Q30 (United States of America).

Currently, there is not automatic categories in the Babel Extension. There are
already several automatic categories made with the Babel templates under this
main category:

Categoría:Usuarios por idioma

The Babel Extension can use its scheme of subcategories:

Categoría:Usuario es-N
Categoría:Usuario es-0

and so on.

There is community consensus in favor of this:

Needs some config like this: http://pastebin.com/QLKcEws6
And it also needs a database, which isn't set up by update.php (Technically I
think it could go in one of the MediaWiki DBs but generally it has a separate
DB.)
We'll probably want to run migratePass0.php and migratePass1.php to global-ise
any existing users and give the option to specify a user to be added to
global_group_permissions with steward rights. From the extension page: "Then,
run migrateStewards.php to promote local stewards to global steward status."

[Bug 51917] Fonts for angwiki (Old English Wikipedia) and other Old English wikis

Thank you!

I'm not sure about Beowulf, which is why I'm mostly just asking about Junicode.
There is a discussion here, as you see:
https://ang.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gesprec:Hēafodtramet#.C8.9C.C7.B7_enhanced_by_Beowulf_font
I can't find any licensing info, however, so I guess it's better to be safe.

On Junicode: is it possible to add an option for ss02 as described on
? Quote: "We'll try the Old
English passage from above, but substituting insular letter-shapes using the
OpenType tag ss02."
If this is not possible, that's okay. Normal Junicode is great anyway, and I
can always hack together some script to set ss02.

Thank you very much!

[Bug 52295] Add sanitized User-Agent to default fields logged by EventLogging

2013-07-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52295

Only the sanitation part has been implemented, given the smaller scope of
usefulness for Tool Labs (where debugging against specific versions is less of
an issue). I was planning to use DevCamp as an opportunity to hack at
bugzillas, I'll whip up a PHP version of the sanitizing code then for inclusion
in EventLogging.

That said, keeping a dynamic "top N" for bucketing may or may not be reasonable
in terms of performance for something called that often; we'll have to see how
that fares in practice.

For those who might be wondering why selflinks would ever appear in an article:
Many pages make use of navigation boxes, such as Template:Extreme Sports. Each
navbox usually links to all of the articles that it will be transcluded to. So,
with several hundred navboxes, each appearing on at least a dozen pages, we can
expect selflinks to appear on several thousand articles.

[Bug 52159] Inserting an existing reference puts it at the start of the paragraph instead of where the cursor is

2013-07-30 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52159

I have done similar manipulations in other articles at some moments, and it
seems it sometimes works and sometimes doesn't. There are many things that are
strange concerning how the existing references system works.

Regardless, I set up a sandbox page on my user space, added a reference and
then tried to re-use that reference using the VisualEditor. The reference was
added at the start of the paragraph. I've done some more experimenting, and
I've written steps to reproduce the bug; the first block reproduces the bug and
the following blocks are other experimentations that give more strange results.

1. Go to [[User:Rastus Vernon/VisualEditor Sandbox]].
2. Edit the page with the VisualEditor.
3. Click somewhere in the first paragraph, not at the start.
4. Click on the reference button and re-use the reference (there is only one).
5. Note how the reference was inserted at the start of the paragraph instead of
being inserted where your cursor was.

6. Click in another paragraph, not at the start.
7. Insert the same reference again.
8. Note how the reference was inserted at the right position.

9. Perform steps 7 and 8 again.
10. Note how it was again inserted at the right position, although the
reference is already in that paragraph.

11. Try inserting it again in the first paragraph.
12. Note how it still inserts it at the start of the paragraph instead of
inserting it in the right location.

13. Be confused because you don't understand anything about this inconsistent
behavior.

CentralAuth is a pain to set up IIRC. It would be nice to have a Vagrant role
for it.

Ori has suggested making Vagrant provision multiple machines for this, but
CentralAuth can run quite happily on one so we should start with one.

That sounds about right. As a percentage of our most frequently edited
articles, I suspect the percentage is much higher, though. The primary use is
in award tables, and while the millions of articles about ghost towns, obscure
shellfish, and asteroids tend not to discuss awards, while the ones about
modern music, television, and films frequently do.

Was on the Dutch Wikipedia once in the past week to read only, have been on at
least six other language Wikipedias since then to read. I have never set
preferences for anything other than English anywhere on WMF sites or through my

Note due to bug 51268, this setting is ignored for Parsoid/VE. Turning
$wgEnableImageWhitelist off on production servers where it is unused helps to
ensure VE behavior is consistent.

I'm not actually suggesting that $wgEnableImageWhitelist be disabled in
DefaultSettings.php (as suggested in comment 5). Just that it should be turned
off in production for wikis which are not currently using that functionality.

Agreed on this as well. With my patch, this would be done by adding the 'user'
group to the list of required HTTPS groups. Right now it only disables the
preference, but it would be trivial to add a special case to remove it entirely
if all users have it disabled.

[Bug 52302] New: Add VARNISH role

Bug ID: 52302
   Summary: Add VARNISH role
   Product: Tools
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: MediaWiki-Vagrant
  Assignee: o...@wikimedia.org
  Reporter: yu...@wikimedia.org

Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

Can we have varnish through a role please? We will have to do a lot of dev &
test for it soon.

The default varnish config in /etc/varnish/default.vcl could have this at the
very top of the file. Leave all comments there.

backend default {
.host = "127.0.0.1";
.port = "80";
}

the service can be started with:

sudo varnishd -f /etc/varnish/default.vcl -s malloc,1G -T 127.0.0.1:2000 -a
0.0.0.0:8080

This way varnish will only work if accessed through port 8080 (needs to be
mapped to outside), while port 80 will continue be served uncached. The admin
port 2000 doesn't have to be patched to the outside (rarely used, can be
accessed through ssh).

P.S. Note that varnish config should not be deleted on every vagrant up - there
could be a lot of changes during development to that file. Maybe it would make
sense to have an include command of some sort the same way as settings.d/ files
for vagrant.

Thanks!

Another example is [[pl:Template:Związek chemiczny infobox]] on pl.wp (infobox

together, but which are not always alphabetically one after another. These
groups are for example:

* gęstość + gęstość źródło + stan skupienia w podanej g + g warunki

non-standard environment conditions for the density)

This is similar to an old bug #5220 from 2005, but it's occurring for me right
now. I perpetually have the message "Talk:You have new messages" at the top of
every page, even while I'm viewing my talk page, or any other page. The last
edit to my talk page was MiszaBot archiving some old threads.

I am using the Chrome browser. If I duplicate my Wikipedia tab, the problem
persists in the second tab too.

Experimenting in other tabs while I type this, the only way I have found to
make it go away is to manually enter https://en.wikipedia.com in the URL field
of the browser. Navigating anywhere by clicking will not cure the problem, I
have to enter a URL manually.

Stray cookie doesn't get reset when I visit my own talk page, perhaps?

The checkbox should definitely be removed from the login screen. It's not clear
to me why it was ever added there in the first place. We did this once before
with some other (non-SSL-related) checkbox on the login screen. I thought we'd
learned our lesson.

Until we're ready to switch to HTTPS for anons by default it makes sense to
point HTTPS versions of pages to HTTP via rel=canonical. We should be setting
one or the other, rather than having a split.

The load on the SSL cluster has been doubling month by month and this split may
be the reason why. Unfortunately we don't have conclusive metrics to prove
this, but making this setting explicit rules that out as a possibility.

I'm taking the somewhat unusual move of switching this bug back to
"unconfirmed" for now. There's currently no evidence of a problem to be solved
here.

Broadly, it may make sense to change the default (which would be a MediaWiki
bug, not a Wikimedia bug), however, again, there would first have to be a
demonstration of a problem.

Any such demonstration would have to account for the fact that:

* local administrators can edit site-wide JavaScript and insert raw HTML;
* the external image whitelist is a relatively clean system for allowing
external image sources; and
* this feature has been enabled by default for about five years now without
issue.

I'm trying to get CentralAuth's SUL2 limping locally.
With $wgCentralAuthAutoNew=true to make it create a global account, I'm getting

Fatal error: Call to a member function getFullUrl() on a non-object in
.../extensions/CentralAuth/CentralAuthHooks.php on line 464

The call to $wiki->getFullUrl() in doCentralLoginRedirect() fatals because the
earlier call to
  $wiki = WikiMap::getWiki( $wgCentralAuthLoginWiki );
returns null.

To avoid the fatal the code could test if ( $wiki ) before invoking. Although,
I'm not sure if there's reasonable recovery if MW is supposed to do the
redirect and can't.

Obviously I'll set up WikiMap.

How is that expected? It'd be like committing a database transaction where the
data has changed since it was last read, or a more appropriate example: having
a edit conflict on Wikipedia be resolved just by overwriting the last revision.
The correct behavior would be to display an error saying there was an edit
conflict.
