   Product: VisualEditor

  Hardware: All

Status: UNCONFIRMED

Here is how to reproduce it, when trying to add a link to the page "Maria" on
en.wiki.

1) Select the add link icon and type "maria"
2) Select "Maria", which is at the end of the suggested list
3) Press Enter or the "<" button
4) Save

The link is added to Mariah Carey (which was on the top of the suggested list).
Cf.
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Sandrobt/prova&diff=prev&oldid=567641122

Note that this doesn't happen if in 2) you had typed "Maria" (which is the
exact title of the page you want to link to).
Cf.
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User:Sandrobt/prova&diff=next&oldid=567641169

The same problem appears in similar situations in it.wiki (for example when
adding a link to "Sega" you need to type it exactly like that, since the first
option is always SEGA)

I'm using Firefox 22.0 on Mac OS X 10.6.8.

[Bug 52581] TemplateData: Implement inferred templatedata as fallback based on the contents of the template

https://he.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mediawiki:Gadget-TemplateParamWizard.js

the function is called buildParamsRaw() ("data" is the raw template page).

i cannot guarantee that it always works flawlessly, but the wizard works on
hewiki for a while now (more than a year), and i did not get any bug reports
(i did have some bug reports for previous versions).

i think it is possible to intentionally create a legal template that will give
bad results there: specifically, this function does not take "nowiki" and
"noinclude" tags into account.

OTOH, it uses only 9 out of the budget of 15, so you have 6 lines to augment
those shortcomings...

more seriously: i assumed the codebase already have non-negligible amount of
logic that can be used to distill the parameter list of a template.

(full disclosure: i too did not believe it can be done without tons of code -
Eran Roz showed me the light)

Hello. Per community consensus (see URL), please:

1- Enable "import" on ckb.wiki and add fa, ar, ku, en, de, fr, it, es, ru, pt
wikis as import source for this project ($wgImportSources setting).
2- Add 'importupload' right to administrators.
3- Bureaucrats should be able to add/remove both "Importer" (import) and

The extension doesn't work (gives fatal error) if PHP is compiled without
multibyte string functions, specifically mb_convert_encoding.

Here's a patch.

In /includes/HtmlFormatter.php, in the root class, add:

/*
* Converts UTF-8 characters to HTML entities
* @param string $string: The string to convert
* @return string: The converted string
*/
public function convertToHtmlEntities( $string ) {
if ( function_exists ( 'mb_convert_encoding' ) ) {
return mb_convert_encoding( $string, 'HTML-ENTITIES', 'UTF-8' );
}
return htmlspecialchars_decode( utf8_decode( htmlentities( $string ) ) );
}

In getDoc function, replace
$html = mb_convert_encoding( $this->html, 'HTML-ENTITIES', "UTF-8" );
with
$html = $this->convertToHtmlEntities( $this->html );

And in fixLibXML, replace
$html = mb_convert_encoding( $html, 'UTF-8', 'HTML-ENTITIES' );
with
$html = $this->convertToHtmlEntities( $html );

I checked, and VE isn't dirtying the DOM. It's also not stripping the data-mw
attribute from the first tag on the page (I'm curious to see where you
saw that behavior).

I think this is a selser bug. If I don't make any edits, the returned DOM is
the same as what we received and the wikitext diff is empty. If I add a
character to a paragraph, the DOM diff is only that paragraph, but the diff has
that plus the removal of the infobox.

They're only handled differently if they occur in isolation. But
mw:Transclusion takes precedence over other things, as does about-grouping. So
if there's a tag that's either about-grouped with other things or has
mw:Transclusion set, it won't (shouldn't) be treated as metadata. I'll have to
see what's going on here.

I don't quite understand what kind of fostering behavior you're talking about
here exactly, but I'll investigate the linked article and see.

I don't think we should move forward with this until Denny's comments at
http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Wikidata:Requests_for_comment/A_need_for_a_resolution_regarding_article_moves_and_redirects#Clarification
have been considered. I don't feel this has happened. From what I can see the
decision was made without being aware of the consequences by most people.

[Bug 52626] New: Preference to detect/specify low bandwidth

   Summary: Preference to detect/specify low bandwidth
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified

Status: NEW

It would be useful to have a preference (or preferences) to specify whether
it's a high or low bandwidth connection. Potentially, there could be multiple
variations, not just on or off.

This could be auto-detected, with an option to manually override it.

The goal would be to allow scripts and/or ResourceLoader to detect this and
behave accordingly. Thus, instead of simply having "JS on" or "JS off", there
could also be "JS with high bandwidth" vs. "JS with low bandwidth" with
different behavior and/or additional scripts being loaded.

Special:Allpages on Wikidata currently exposes the titles of items as well as
the titles of properties. Special:Prefixindex only exposes the title of an
item. It would be nice if Special:Prefixindex also exposed the titles of
properties.

See exhibit a) http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:AllPages/Property:

and exhibit b) http://www.wikidata.org/wiki/Special:PrefixIndex/Property:

Fix text change detection in IE

Introduce textchange event that get triggered when something changed
on input fields.

Refactor translation textarea construction. Set the value before
starting listening to events. Listen events only with one listener.
Set the two dirty flags together for consistency.

This eliminates the "You have unchanged saves" popup appearing in IE
even when there were no changes.

This fixes the case when it was impossible to get rid of unsaved
status for messages which have no existing status.

[Bug 50733] app crashes with out-of-memory error soon after login

2013-08-07 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=50733

--- Comment #1 from Brion Vibber  ---
https://github.com/wikimedia/apps-android-commons/pull/42 fixes it on my
emulated Nexus One (real one isn't handy right now at Wikimania).

I basically just took out the in-memory bitmap cache. Instead if we pull an
image from cache it'll load from Volley's on-disk cache and decode the jpg/png
again.

Nexus One has a ridiculously low per-process memory limit (24mb) so 1/8 of
that makes a big difference. (I'm also not 100% sure if the cache size limit
was working as intended, the numbers look weird.)

Yuvi, does this seem to trigger any perf issues on devices that do have the
ram?

We can always add nofollow for mw:ExtLink links, but should check with the VE
folks whether this is handled properly. Compression should keep the additional
overhead minimal.

In practice nofollow won't matter to anybody until our HTML is used for regular
page views (hence the low priority). The Google KG team will crawl our HTML,
but uses a custom pipeline in any case.

If a page starts with a bulleted list, there's no way to put the cursor "in
front of" the list styling. If you want to add a non-list paragraph, you have
to make a new, blank first bullet item and then remove the list formatting from
the paragraph.

in RTL wikis, when using MathJax, formulas are left-aligned.
with either TeX or PNG modes, the formulas are right-aligned on RTL wikis.

this causes completely different page rendering for users who render formulas

Calendar system changes cannot be done in the same way as regular site

MediaWiki code changes seem to take a longer time to process (at [1] you can

[Bug 48429] VisualEditor: Support editing of sections inside a page

(In reply to comment #49)
>
> Yes, the existing feature prevents users from editing other sections on the
> page, which sucks. That could presumably be addressed in VE: a separate
> content-editable region could be created by each section edit click, to be
> saved in bulk.

i agree with Tim's comment wholeheartedly, except the last paragraph:
preventing the user from editing outside the section doesn't "suck". it's a
great feature.

when editing a section, we have automatically generated edit summary with the
section name. for users that use wikitext editor, you pretty much know, when
you see the very common "/* section name */ optional comment" edit summary,
that the edit is indeed confined to the section whose name appears in the
comment.

but with VE, because of the wrong (IMHO) way bug 50872 was handled, a user can
press the "sectionedit" link of some section, then edit anywhere on the page,
and the summary will still show the section name of the click. this makes the
summary practically useless: when looking at the history, seeing a section name
in the summary tells me nothing - i don't care which button Joe pressed, i care
which content was changed, and the summary does not tell me that anymore.[1]

since the most urgent issue ATM for VE is unacceptable performance on longer
articles with slower machines, true section edit would be (as Tim notes) a very
very desirable feature.

how about this: i think that the cases where a section is not balanced, in
terms of html tags (the case described in comment 2) is very rare. how about
falling back to full article edit in those rare cases? [2]
true, it means that those cases would be even slower, but i believe that those
are a negligible minority. the vast majority of the sections *are* balanced,
and will gain greatly (performance wise) from the ability to edit a single
section.

peace.

[1] this can be handled by undoing the solution for bug 50872, and solving bug
51903 instead (i.e., create the summary by analyzing the diff instead of the
button the user clicked), but the best thing, IMO, would be to support true
"section edit" for VE.

[2] this means: get the section content from the server, and if it "does not
make sense", like the example in comment #2, get and edit the whole page.

[Bug 52618] New: VisualEditor: nowiki-ing and removing content when it encounters incorrect markup

Bug ID: 52618
   Summary: VisualEditor: nowiki-ing and removing content when it
encounters incorrect markup
   Product: VisualEditor
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: General
  Assignee: jforres...@wikimedia.org
  Reporter: elitr...@gmail.com
CC: jforres...@wikimedia.org, krinklem...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=National_Security_Intelligence&diff=next&oldid=558880809
- the corruption was later reproduced in a sandbox by Rybec "by copy-pasting
the previous revision to a sandbox and editing just the lead paragraph in the
same way in VE. The unwanted changes are displayed in the review window", so
aside from nowikis, we need to find out why it deletes some bits of the text.

Also adding
http://fr.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Romain_Alessandrini&diff=95638901&oldid=95638848
which as the previous one happened after a template was left open. I think this
should happen to prevent | signs to be shown as they are usually markup and not
really wanted in an article, but I still can see them in View mode, so I need
to understand more about this behavior. Thanks.

Parsoid doesn't add rel='nofollow' on links. Someday maybe it should, if
Parsoid HTML is going to be crawled directly.

If we add this, we should also parse the $wgNoFollowLinks and
$wgNoFollowDomainExceptions configuration properties from mediawiki, and honor
them. There are already parser tests for these.
