https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49806 --- Comment #18 from Chris McKenna cmcke...@sucs.org --- A work around for this allowing you to add and not delete stuff you've added would be to make their removal undoable. [Bug 51918] VisualEditor: Change tab order in save dialog to be more like the wikitext editor's save form
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51918 --- Comment #5 from Chris McKenna cmcke...@sucs.org --- Dcoetzee at en.wp reports that the tab order differs in different browsers, and that at a certain point in firefox the focus gets stuck and neither tab nor shift-tab can move it. The full comment is below: On Chrome Version 28.0.1500.95 m on Windows 7 x64: It starts in the edit summary field, goes to the minor edit link (not the checkbox), then the Save page button, then the Review your changes button (moving right to left), then the three links in the small text at the bottom, then the address bar, then the Search box, then the minor edit checkbox, then the Interactions menu drop down on the left sidebar (???), then the Watch this page checkbox. If I use SHIFT+TAB it goes to Edit summary link, then jumps straight to the Mediawiki logo way in the bottom right. On Firefox 22.0 and 23.0 on Windows 7 x64: It starts in the edit summary field, goes to the minor edit link (not the checkbox), then the Save page button, then thereafter neither TAB nor SHIFT+TAB do anything (focus is stuck - this is a serious problem as it may require reloading the page and losing edits). SHIFT+TAB is same as in Chrome. Conventionally, tab order is supposed to go in a logical reading order: left-to-right, top-to-bottom. My expected order was something like this: Starts in edit summary field, goes to minor edit checkbox, then minor edit link, then Watch this page checkbox, then Review your changes button, then Save page button, then the three links at the bottom. If I use SHIFT+TAB to tab backwards, I expect to visit the Edit summary link, then (if possible) the arrow to collapse/abort the Save, then the Search box. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
[Bug 52915] HTML email notifications caught by spam filters
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52915 --- Comment #2 from Nemo federicol...@tiscali.it --- Created attachment 13107 -- https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=13107action=edit Mail notifications headers compared (In reply to comment #1) Possibly this might have the same cause as the mailinglist messages that were ending up in the gmail spambox. This is supposed not to be the case, because they have different sender addresses with different SPF records and they are sent by a different IP, precisely to avoid @wikimedia.org mail, ML and wiki/other mail to be collated as single spam agent (this was done a few years ago by Mark, IIRC). Note that Echo emails are different from standard enotif in almost every single header (subject, from, sender, reply-to, footer and of course body are all non-standard), see an example at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Extension:GettingStarted/Welcome_enotifoldid=686716 I have been told that the Echo team had discussed with ops the implications of having a different header. Indeed, I have tested it and despite the From: Wikipedia no-reply-notificati...@wikipedia.org Reply-To: No Reply no-reply-notificati...@wikipedia.org and the absence of a Sender, the presence of (envelope-from w...@wikimedia.org) in the Received headers makes it pass the SPF check: Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=pass (google.com: domain of w...@wikimedia.org designates 2620:0:860:2:219:b9ff:fedd:c027 as permitted sender) smtp.mail=w...@wikimedia.org However, there is not much to do if the emails look like spam and users press the spam button, except – I think – making it clear that they are not spam. I don't know if this is the actual problem, it may be not. Most notifications (some 5k out of 16k daily) are talk pages notifications which already triggered enotiftalk before Echo. Only some 40 % of notifications goes to new users; experienced users probably already received most notifications and know how to deal with them. We don't have stats on pre-Echo enotiftalk nor on enotifwatchlist ( http://ee-dashboard.wmflabs.org/dashboards/enwiki-features As it was noted on the wikitech-l thread about mailing list spam, Gmail suggests you to unsubscribe from diligent email senders, rather than marking them spam, if they use the appropriate headers, in that case List-Unsubscribe and List-Subscribe. I don't know if we can use these headers to point to [[Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-echo]] or there are better headers; it could be a starting point though, as it has no cost. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 44394] Account creation interface should not be using helvetica/arial when the rest of the skin does not
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=44394 Ori Livneh o...@wikimedia.org changed: What|Removed |Added CC||o...@wikimedia.org --- Comment #59 from Ori Livneh o...@wikimedia.org --- I think MatmaRex's patch should be merged. It seems that everyone involved in this thread agrees that using one set of typefaces in two isolated cases and another set of typefaces in all other interfaces is inconsistent, and that inconsistent interfaces are bad. So what we're debating is whether there are other factors that recommend the font change that are significant enough to trump the cost of the inconsistency. There were several arguments to that effect in this thread. I'll treat each in turn. (I took the liberty to mix and match quotes from different individuals without attribution below.) 1) It's just temporary. We're working, albeit slowly, on making things more consistent We're testing out design ideas on a small scale and spreading them across the site if they've been successful; this will lead to temporary inconsistencies, but we're trying to make those short. This was posted in 2013-01-27. Although the changes have moved from an extension to core, the use of Helvetica Neue in core is still confined to post-edit feedback and the account creation / login forms. There are plans to expand it further, but I think we have to acknowledge that we haven't made substantial progress here over the past seven months. We can't credibly argue that the inconsistencies are temporary / transitional. 2) There are bigger fish to fry. Wikipedia is designed inconsistently anyways, and in far worse ways there are far bigger fish to fry from a consistency standpoint. Even if the assertion is true, it fails to explain why additional inconsistencies should be tolerated. This is an appeal to hypocrisy (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tu_quoque), a kind of logical fallacy. 3) It's not as bad as you make it sound. This inconsistency is easier to spot for developers rather than users Depending on the browser, Helvetica is likely the default sans-serif on those machines and is quite similar to HN. I researched typespace consistency a little because I wanted to have an informed position on this bug. The sources I found argued that, if anything, using font-faces that are very similar to one another is *especially* bad: There's nothing wrong with having two pieces of text look the same, only something wrong with two pieces of text that *almost* look alike but are different enough to be distracting. (https://tinyurl.com/typography-dos-and-donts) Ultimately, I think that this isn't a valid argument, either. What it's really saying is it's not nearly as bad as you're making it sound. Even if true, so what? It doesn't make a case for the font change. 4) It's just better. Simply put, it's widely accepted that Helvetica Neue reads better than the default sans-serif *on systems that have it*. This could have been a valid argument if we supplied some evidence to subtantiate the claim, but we haven't. Ryan Kaldari denied that Helvetica Neue reads better and went on to identify specific issues. His preferences may ultimately be subjective, but they are clearly well-considered, and they raise the standard of evidence that would be needed to decide the argument in favor of Helvetica Neue. 5) It's what we tested. It works in its current state and deviating from that, even in a small way, might affect its impact. In the short term, sticking with the design that was tested successfully is a change I support. We've already deviated from the designs we tested in other minor ways. If it is indeed the case that even small changes mean that all bets are off, than all bets are already off. In other words, if the results we got from ACUX support only the redesign *exactly* as we tested it, then the current design is not supported by the experiment. I reject the premise of this argument, by the way. I think it's dishonest. Our working mental model of usability is that the login and account creation interfaces would be improved by being made more welcoming and less cluttered, and I attribute the positive result to our adherence to these broad principles rather than to minute particulars. I think the flexible approach that we took as a team when moving this redesign into core suggests that this belief is shared by the rest of the team. So, how do we go forward from here? I think we should start by merging MatmaRex's patch. We've let this drag on long enough and we've run out of excuses. By allowing this to fester we've both undermined trust in our work and soured relationships that could be pleasant and productive. Let's move on, really. Second, like all of you, I propose that we continue to think about how we could effect horizontal improvement of typefaces.

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=52920 Web browser: --- Bug ID: 52920 Summary: AbuseFilter API should provide details about old revisions of filters Product: MediaWiki extensions Version: master Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: normal Priority: Unprioritized Component: AbuseFilter Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org Reporter: mybugs.m...@gmail.com CC: agarr...@wikimedia.org, nischay...@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- As far as I know, currently the only information available about older revisions of a filter are those from a query such as https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=querylist=logeventsformat=jsonfmleprop=ids|title|type|user|userid|timestamp|comment|parsedcomment|details|tagsleaction=abusefilter/modifylelimit=2 which returns a list of objects like this: { logid: 50427214, pageid: 0, ns: -1, title: Special:AbuseFilter/345, type: abusefilter, action: modify, 0: 11627, 1: 345, user: Salix alba, userid: 212526, timestamp: 2013-08-13T10:59:54Z, comment: , parsedcomment: , tags: [] } But in order to get better statistics (e.g.: [1]) than those provided by Abusefilter (which only provides a total Hit count for each filter, not separated by the filter version), I need to get all the parameters which are visible on pages such as https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:AbuseFilter/history/345/item/11627 (particularlly the conditions and actions taken by that version) This is further complicated by bug 52221 and bug 52919. [Bug 51119] Transcluded pages quasi-template eats into subsequent entry
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51119 --- Comment #7 from ssas...@wikimedia.org --- (In reply to comment #5) The bug still exists. VE should handle this differently: mark the whole page as not compatible with VE if you must. John: can you clarify what could be done here? As far as I can tell, there is no broken HTML, and neither is there any corruption on edit and save. The only problem is that top-level page content is sucked into transclusion content and is not editable. In the current scenario, at least some part of the page is editable in VE. How would marking the whole page not editable solve this issue? -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 51119] Transcluded pages quasi-template eats into subsequent entry
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51119 --- Comment #8 from ssas...@wikimedia.org --- That said, there is a possibility that for lists, this problem is solvable by marking a series of adjacent list nodes as template generated -- Parsoid already has the mechanism of marking a forest of adjacent DOM nodes as template-generated instead of marking just a root-node. I suspect the reason this is not already happening is because of an (un)related list parsing bug. Bug 49974, now merged into Bug 52762. Once that is resolved, this problem will be fixed for the specific example pages on this page. And as long as most of the disambiguation pages use this pattern (list items), it should be okay for them. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 51119] Transcluded pages quasi-template eats into subsequent entry
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51119 --- Comment #9 from John Mark Vandenberg jay...@gmail.com --- Please read the bug report and reproduce. The current behaviour is sub-optimal. Perhaps its not a high priority as it doesnt break the wiki-text, but that doesn't mean it isnt contrary to user expectations. Text on the page (in the wiki text) should be editable on the page. If the VE cant edit all the wikitext on the page, the page is not yet functional in VE, and only SE should be offered to the user (or VE should tell the user to use SE to edit those bits). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

[Bug 51119] Transcluded pages quasi-template eats into subsequent entry
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51119 --- Comment #10 from ssas...@wikimedia.org --- I personally am not going to apply that metric to this page -- for example, table tags cannot be edited in VE, extension source cannot be edited in VE, and wikitext that shows up in between multi-part templates cannot be edited in VE. I think this particular issue falls in the same category. I do agree that the experience is sub-optimal. But given that it does not break wikitext, I mean no disrespect to your opinion, but I disagree with you that we ought to therefore make the entire page uneditable. As to your suggestion of providing a generic warning for uneditable pieces in VE, I'll James address that part. But, as I noted above, at least for dab pages using list items, this problem might be solvable if we can figure out why transclusions are splitting existing lists at the transclusion point. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
