[Bug 29390] Errors from and via dieUsage, doneCallback, handleAJAXSave are not shown. Should doneCallback better show error messages directly?
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=29390 --- Comment #6 from T. Gries --- Clarification: I found this during debugging LiquidThreads in 2011: I wanted to fix the problem, that the AJAX loading "spinner" is oftern not cleared, for example when you move a Lqt thread. The debugging was difficult, and I stopped when I found that errors are not correctly treated inside Lqt. Honestly, I gave up. The Wikimedia Foundation told me several times, that a professional person is working on LiquidThreads - I asked several times for evidence of some outcome of this project, but their answer was always like cookie-licking "yes we working on that". I gave up with LiquidThreads. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 53570] Please do not add gallery to technical campaign pages
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53570 --- Comment #36 from Bawolff (Brian Wolff) --- Just to summarize a quick discussion I had with Romaine on irc: Two main problems: * There is a large concern that people "being bold" has serious consequences, especially in the middle of a campaign. While its true there is still a history, and its easy to revert, the consequences are still large in the time until the revert happens. Increased exposure means people are more likely to "experiment" with a campaign page * The JSON structure rendered as a table is useful to campaign managers, who have some technical knowladge, but probably aren't "programmers" and find the raw json a little off putting. Campaign managers have to manage many campaigns, and it is important to be able to see the json structure at a glace (hence having it in a collapsible section is too hidden) My suggested solution would be: *For problem 1, $wgNamespaceProtection *For problem 2, make the right used for namespace protection, also switch between displaying the fancy gallery thing, and the json table blob. . **Personally, I also think it would be useful for people without the right who see the gallery, to still have a collapsible section at the bottom of the campaign page labelled "technical details" which shows the json rendered as a table. Wiki users are curious about these types of things, and like seeing technical details. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. If there would be a > banner > (edit notice) telling me to keep my fingers away and whom to contact in case > of > an emergency, I would of course do that. If you need even further access > restriction, I suggest filing a bug for that. Let us compare 2012 with 2013 concerning wrong edits: in 2012 there were at least 30 unwanted changes were made before the start, in 2013 we have only 2 unwanted changes so far. Our policy on this matter is thought through and works. If they make it technical too easy to edit then it becomes a social problem, while the origin was a technical change which wasn't needed nor wanted there. There is no need for anything if this tool isn't implemented on these pages. And before any further access restriction is implemented - after been discussed - we are weeks away, while within a day the largest photo competition is going to start! > Another point is that it's already hard enough for organizers to learn how to > set up a campaign properly, including editing JSON. In the end, no one knows > what > the other group does, fuelling speculations, lacks of appreciation, and > unfounded fears like we had with our last checkuser election. The tool is going to hide the whole setup that is human readable without knowing JSON. I have about 100 campaigns to maintain, I want to keep that overview as I am not that experienced in JSON. Implementing this tool makes it impossible for me to maintain all these campaigns. I forgot to tell earlier, with thousands of uploads a day, it is not a solution to be able to revert wrong edits in campaigns, those can have a big impact with huge damage on the picture contest. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 46014] inconsistent revision id and html content
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=46014 --- Comment #15 from Gabriel Wicke --- We discussed this in the office a few days ago. The updated revision ID in the HTML means that the front-end cache was properly purged. Some possible issues to check: * Bad parser cache validation. * PHP reading some information from MySQL master (the revision id used for the footer) while using lagged slaves for other info (the revision id used for parser cache validation / parsing). Since this is relatively rare it could be a race condition, where an anon request happens shortly after an update. It might help to correlate edit timestamps with render timestamps in the bad HTML and slave lag at the time. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. [Bug 53396] VisualEditor: Toolbar translcusion icon (puzzle piece) not intuitive
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=53396 James Forrester changed: What|Removed |Added Priority|Unprioritized |Low Status|NEW |ASSIGNED --- Comment #2 from James Forrester --- (In reply to comment #0) > en.wp user Risker reports from an editathon that of the participants: > "not a one of them understood what the "puzzle piece" was supposed to > represent, and when shown, all of them still thought it was a poorly chosen > icon. Yeah; we all hate it, and are using it because it's the least-bad option suggested so far (it's historically been the icon used in attempts at visual editors for MW since 2003). > Most had no suggestion as to an alternative, although two thought > "curly brackets" would be a good idea. I suspect that's because they'd seen > curly brackets for templates when using wikitext." Indeed - we're trying to break the linkage with wikitext, and I don't think braces make for much of an increased level of obviousness. The new toolbar which allows buttons to self-describe if they're in a drop-down may help this significantly, but for now will keep this open. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
