I am unfamiliar with the installer and what needs to be fixed. Does it
reference screen.css as the css file output has not changed in any significant

[Bug 55591] New: drop obtrusive style rule for the element

2013-10-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55591

   Web browser: ---
Bug ID: 55591
   Summary: drop obtrusive style rule for the element
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal

 Component: Skin and page rendering

  Reporter: entli...@gmx-topmail.de
CC: krinklem...@gmail.com, matma@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

skins/common/commonElements.css currently contains a rather obtrusive style
rule that messes up font rendering:

q {
font-family: Times, "Times New Roman", serif;
font-style: italic;
}

This is very old code that has been present long before was allowed in
wikitext. I suspect that it was added because IE <= 7 doesn't insert quotation
marks around , as it should. So the rule was put in to make quotes at least
somehow recognizable.

I don't think this is still justified (IE >= 8 and all other browsers insert
quotation marks properly). The rule should be dropped or at least a CSS hack
should be used to hide it from modern browsers.

"confirmed" and "autopatrolled" are no rights. What is meant is probably that
all rights /from the confirmed resp. autopatrolled groups/ should also be
assigned to the first listed group on each line?

We currently have a regexp-based newline serialization hack which converts
non-IEW ws to a single space. The regexp does not work well any more with the
XML serializer (as > is no longer entity-escaped). We should normalize this on
the DOM instead, where IEW vs. non-IEW info is readily available.

It's possible to get an OAuth token with an non-approved consumer, but it's not
possible to actually use it: calling the API results in

{u'servedby': u'mw1148', u'error': {u'info': u'The authorization headers in
your request are for an OAuth consumer that is not currently approved',
u'code': u'mwoauth-invalid-authorization-not-approved'}}

This makes it impossible to test API interactions before the consumer has been
approved. Not a huge issue, but it would be easier if one could test different
wiki/privilege settings before asking for approval.

MobileFrontend shouldn't add legal options not available in the desktop view.

Contact, Privacy, About and Disclaimers are already enforced in MobileFrontend.
This already exceeds the needs for legalese of most MediaWikis.

In desktop beta we now expand sections by default. This works fine however
after performing an edit the sections remain expanded but appear empty.
Clicking the heading twice reveals the content. It looks like I've accidentally
blanked it which is bad!

Expected:
After editing I should see the content of a section.

This only effects screens where resolution > 768px

[Bug 55585] New: Improve timeout handling on pages that take a long time to parse?

2013-10-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Bug ID: 55585
   Summary: Improve timeout handling on pages that take a long
time to parse?
   Product: Parsoid
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: General

  Reporter: ssas...@wikimedia.org
CC: ssas...@wikimedia.org
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

Try fr/Liste_des_premiers_préfets_français_(1800-1815) locally. The output is
different each time. The serialized (html2wt) output also has minor diffs. This
seems like possible bugs in timeout handling. This page has a ton of template
requests (some of which are responsible for closing tables) and timeouts in
those can affect DOM. So, we need a way of dealing with the volume of requests
to minimize timeout scenarios.

It's reasonable to expect setup.py to install things in this directory:

 /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/pywikibot/

But it's not reasonable for it to also put things in these directories:

 /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/externals/
 /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/scripts/
 /usr/lib/python2.7/site-packages/tests/

What if every python project tried to do that?

More general/applicable use cases include support for things like echo
forwarding notifications from secondary accounts (Bug 48892), tracking user
renames more easily, and also issues with finding the owners of cross-project
bots and other cross-project use with SUL in general, since otherwise folks
need to manually redirect their secondary accounts to their main account on
many projects, which gets confusing/ridiculous.

So yeah, this is something that we probably do want now and definitely will in
the future with SUL as more features begin to support global accounts and
usage.

I'm packaging pywikibot for Arch Linux here:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/python2-pywikibot-git/

Packing software for distribution means that install scripts might be run by a
different person than the user. Install scripts are not the place for user
config, and it's also bad practice to force ANY interactive configs at that
stage.

Please don't run generate_user_files.py from setup.py. Find some way to do this
at runtime.

Or, ideally, to behave sanely with no configs at all.

At the moment we are just providing a sample config for users to edit, and
doing: sed -i /generate_user_files.py/Id setup.py

if this code exists twice it in the instance you are testing against it will
indeed break.

includes/Sanitizer.php currently includes, in lines 1520/1521:

# 8.2.4

Maybe the intention was to not accept the element? But then, in lines
399-403 there is:

  $htmlnest = array( [...], 'bdo' );

The result is that the element is accepted, but its "dir" attribute is
dropped. This is not logical at all because the whole point of the
element is to specify a "dir" attribute. It is actually required in HTML5:
http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/text-level-semantics.html#the-bdo-element

[Bug 55580] Redirecting client to Special:MWOAuth/authorize more than once results in database error

2013-10-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55580

--- Comment #2 from Brad Jorsch  ---
I see two problems going on here.

First, WikiMap::getWikiName( 'mediawiki' ) will happily return a reference to
"media.wikipedia.org" rather than returning null because that wiki doesn't
actually exist. Fun. Your client is created for that non-existent wiki rather
than for mediawikiwiki. I suppose in our validation for the input we could try
wfGetDB() instead, does that seem sane?

Second, Special:MWOAuth needs to either reject if someone tries to hit it for a
client where $cmr->get( 'wiki' ) !== '*' and !== wfWikiId() or the call to
$oauthServer->getCurrentAuthorization() needs to return the authorization for
$cmr->get( 'wiki' ) rather than wfWikiId(). I'm not sure what the intended
design is. Chris or Aaron?

Just so their easy to review, both Daniel and Tyler's patches are in gerrit

Daniel's - https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/89031
Tyler's - https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/77645

Tyler's seems a little closer to how I would have written it, so I'm leaning
towards improving that patch a little. But I'd be happy with either.

Note, we can't use the bcrypt implementation as default from Tyler's patch,
since it isn't compatible with php 5.3.2, so we would still want to define and
add a :C: type for the WMF. And probably import Daniel's PBKDF for anyone who
needs to be NIST compliant.

[Bug 55574] Share sheet take a very long time to display the first time

2013-10-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55574

--- Comment #1 from Brion Vibber  ---
This is because we're downloading a fresh medium-resolution copy of the image
before the share sheet is displayed, then passing it in so it can be
copied/saved/printed/etc.

If what you wanted was to copy the *page link* then that's totally unnecessary;
and if you did want the actual image, it's still a bad experience because
there's a delay with no progress indicator.

Proper way to handle this is probably to delay the file fetch until we actually
need it, in which case we have to feed data into the action controller
differently (callbacks etc).

2013-10-10 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=55579

--- Comment #1 from Brad Jorsch  ---
What exactly are you using as an endpoint URL? When I test it here, I can only
reproduce this if the (non-standard) format=json is included. Omitting that
parameter appears to properly return a application/x-www-form-urlencoded body
with the field names, as called for in RFC 5849 section 2.1.

So this turns out to be due to a bug in MobileFrontend throwing errors from the
API, and would affect the previous as well as the current version of the app.

I'm updating the bug summary to "Commons app crashes on malformed server API

Some more user-friendly error message should probably show up here, or it
should do a graceful retry or something.

Flask-OAuth [1] expects a response like

{
   "oauth_token":"...",
   "oauth_token_secret":"..."
}

which, is apparently fairly standard, as it's used by both Twitter and
Facebook.

Special:MWOAuth/initiate, however, returns

{
   "key":"...",
   "secret":"..."
}

As a workaround, I have patched Flask-OAuth:

import flask_oauth, json
def parse_response(resp, content, strict=False):
ct = json.loads(content)
print ct
return {'oauth_token': ct['key'], 'oauth_token_secret': ct['secret']}

flask_oauth.parse_response = parse_response

MediaWiki Core group to handle if it isn't already fixed by the time the HipHop
migration starts in earnest.

Thanks for reporting this issue.

But we need more info to investigate further:

* What browser were you using?

* What was the exact description you were trying to paste?

Moving this to normal for now, adding 33607 as possible 'see also' -- and will
revisit later, once we have more info.
