Today I found the diff in URL by Kghbln, who is in "editor" group, which has
"autopatrol" permission, not patrolled. Expected: the edit is autopatrolled.

His edits seem to be normally autopatrolled everywhere, except in user talk
namespace. Checking

I found out that the last edit which was correctly autopatrolled is

as opposed to
.
Something happened between April 28 and May 3: it was a busy period for Echo
(wikitech:Server_admin_log/Archive_22#April_30) and saw several changes to
Echo deployed as part of mw:MediaWiki_1.22/wmf3#Echo and more, while the
only core change mentioning patrol or talk is gerrit change 59086 (related to
Echo anyway), so filing here.

Yes, if there's unbalanced tag like small then additional following posts are
nested inside (leading to bug 56981), and the topic collapse only makes
immediate child '.flow-post-container's of the topic invisible.

The short-term fix could be $hideElement = $topicContainer.find(
'.flow-post-container' ) so even messed up HTML is hidden, but ideally each
Flow post should be balanced HTML. (Forum software, RSS readers, and blog
aggregators have been struggling with this for decades.)

When you put a Pagename link in Flow, Parsoid generates a link of the form
http://ee-flow.wmflabs.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Spage , the
relative href to /w/index.php becomes a link to /w/Pagename, which is a 404.

This feels like a Parsoid problem, but it might be addressed by ErikB's comment
in ParsoidUtils.php,

 // @todo needs a big refactor to get a page title in here, fake Main_Page for
now

(Huge props to quiddity for noticing this one.)

[Bug 56987] New: importImages.php does not actually upload previously deleted files.

2013-11-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56987

 Web browser: ---
Bug ID: 56987
 Summary: importImages.php does not actually upload previously
deleted files.
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: 1.21.2
 Hardware: PC
OS: Windows Server 2008
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Severity: enhancement
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: Maintenance scripts
 Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
 Reporter: felipe.dj...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
 Mobile Platform: ---

When you upload a file (same name) to a wiki which was previously deleted the
importImages.php script indicates that the upload was successful. But the
upload was not successful, only the page in the File: NS was created but the
actual file was not uploaded (again).

When you upload the file manually (via Upload File) the user gets a warning
that he or she is uploading a previously deleted file, with the
"wpUploadIgnoreWarning" button he or she can overrule this blocker.

We use importImages.php to import pictures and files automatically to our wiki.
The combination with Semantic Mediawiki makes this a very powerful tool. Would
it not make sense to create a --ignorewarning argument for the importImages.php
so it is possible to upload previously deleted files with importImages.php?
When this is not possible the script should at least not report that the file
upload was successful when it was not.

Regards,

Felipe.

Right now, there are no oversight members on Telugu Wiki. So I agree it could
be low priority, but worth investigating, as it could point to potential
configuration errors which may impact at a later date.

[Bug 56882] memcached-serious log flooded with TIMED RETRY errors

2013-11-12 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56882

--- Comment #4 from Tim Starling ---
The error message indicates that a libmemcached memcached_connect() call gave a
result of MEMCACHED_SERVER_TEMPORARILY_DISABLED. This can happen if
memcached_mark_server_for_timeout() was called on the server, which can happen
if memcached_quit_server is called with io_death=true, which can happen in all
sorts of different cases in io.cc and in one case in response.cc. More
investigation is needed to determine exactly which case is causing it.

Unfortunately, MEMCACHED_BEHAVIOR_RETRY_TIMEOUT (i.e. retry_timeout in our
config) has a minimum of one whole second. In the case of PHP talking to
twemproxy, immediate reconnection would probably be a better policy. The
one-second timeout is why we see floods of messages in bursts that last
approximately one second each.

The fact that pmtpa apaches responding to pybal monitoring requests are heavily
represented in the logs may be caused by transient packet loss on the pmtpa to
eqiad link, which would increase the rate of connection timeouts.

Arjuna Rao Chavala changed:

 What|Removed |Added

--- Comment #5 from Arjuna Rao Chavala ---
As per https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56881#c3 and
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=56881#c4, I have properly
located the source string and localised it. I have also verified Telugu
localisations at
https://git.wikimedia.org/blob/mediawiki%2Fcore.git/df8317feb098ab08400abd22e74ff6fb42eb8e78/languages%2Fmessages%2FMessagesTe.php
and found that my updates for other messages are reflected in the file.

I found the instances of old sting at
http://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=MediaWiki%3AMw-core-1.18-group-suppress-member%2Fte&diff=5116633&oldid=4256013
and
http://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=MediaWiki%3AMw-core-1.18-group-suppress-member%2Fte&diff=5116633&oldid=4256013

apart from the already cited sting
http://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=MediaWiki:Group-oversight-member/te&diff=prev&oldid=5103366

I also suspected that this message could be coming from
http://translatewiki.net/w/i.php?title=MediaWiki%3AGroup-suppress-member%2Fte&diff=5085633&oldid=3336997
for which the translation is also updated as gender neutral finally.

I think something has gone wrong on Telugu Wikipedia with respect to this page
and request the help to fix the same by bringing this to the attention of
appropriate tech team members

Please add checking namesapce for wikipedia interwiki JS tool (wikidata tool).
Now users by fault add Category links to articles or link template pages to
articles
In my opinion it can check local page's namespace
(for example for fa.wiki (رده-category) )
with target link. if they are not match it shows an alarm and ask user:

Are you sure to link category to article namespace?

You're probably thinking of bug 54391 - which I've been told is just to do with
the email bundled diff (or something).

+1. Thanks TMg for filing this, and thanks Brian for supplying a patch.

This has been bothering me a lot as well, especially because there's still
quite a large landscape where ResourceLoader isn't used (e.g. user scripts
shared that aren't yet gadgetised and personal user scripts, such as global.js
- which is being worked on - and cross-wiki pseudo-gadgets).

--- Comment #10 from Runa Bhattacharjee ---
Hi Praveen, The 'priority' field is set by the developers/development team to
sort the bugs in the order they would like to work upon. Hence it is 'Low' for
the time being in the 'list of things-to-do'.

However, you are most welcome to set the 'Severity' field which identifies the
importance of the affect this bug has on the user's experience and in turn
allows the developers to make a judgement on whether they should change the
priority for the bug.

You may have already seen this documented here:
https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Bugzilla/Fields#importance. I will also wait for
Andre (our bugwrangler) to confirm my explanation. Thanks.

This is one of the things I probably miss the most about the OBOD, that I could
get a direct diff to the new edits.

From a code standpoint, either of these are probably doable.

I don't think always going to the diff is a good idea, for some of the reasons
you mentioned.

Adding a "You have new messages (diff)" thing to the personal tools menu would
be icky and add some more clutter. I don't know where else we could add the
link.

And if I edit my Flow board header containing this text, it displays badly
garbled magic word contents:

* FULLPAGENAME=
* PAGENAME=
* BASEPAGENAME=
* SUBPAGENAME=out user-to

Bug ID: 56982
 Summary: VisualEditor:Editor got unresponsive after a reference
gets placed in a wrong position
 Product: VisualEditor
 Version: unspecified
 Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: Editing Tools
 Assignee: rm...@wikimedia.org
 Reporter: ryasm...@wikimedia.org
CC: jforres...@wikimedia.org, krinklem...@gmail.com,
rm...@wikimedia.org
Classification: Unclassified
 Mobile Platform: ---

Created attachment 13780
 --> https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=13780&action=edit
reference icon after the selected text

Steps to reproduce:

1.Click on the edit button for a blank page
2.Type a text on the first line
3.Now type another text on the second line
4.Add a template
5.Select the second text in a way that it also selects the template
6.Click on More>Reference
7.Add a reference

[Note] This might not be the exact steps to reproduce , I am trying to figure
out the correct steps.I will update the steps once I am sure.Still filing it to
keep track.

Observed Result:
The reference note gets added in the middle of the template and the second line
in a blank line.After that the editor gets unresponsive

Also sometimes the reference icon gets added at the beginning of the first line

See the screenshot attached.

This is caused by a normally helpful feature: we split camelCase words into
multiple words. It lets you search for namespace alias and find
wgNamespaceAliases. In this case the black magic has backfired. I'm triaging
this to Normal but will try to have a look at it soon.

Sorry the thirty days part was a lie. I was thinking about how long things
would at most stay in the cache, but ?action=raw sets a header to say max 5
minutes. It also seems like when I tested that logged in users still get things
cached (which I didn't think happened for stuff going through index.php)...

Moral of the story, I should always double check the things I say, as when I
talk out of my hat, I usually end up being wrong...

[Bug 56978] New: OOJS: Add a 'super' property in inheritClass

 Summary: OOJS: Add a 'super' property in inheritClass

Status: NEW

Similar to nodejs' util.inherits (example / source code).

So one can do:

function Foo() {}

Foo.prototype.something = function () {};

function BarFoo() {
BarFoo.super.call(this);
}

oo.inheritClass( BarFoo, Foo );

BarFoo.prototype.something = function () {
BarFoo.super.prototype.something.apply(this);
};
NodeJS calls it super_ (with trailing underscore), I guess we don't want to do
that.

So instead of:

oo.extendObject
oo.isPlainObject
oo.cloneObject
oo.getObjectKeys
oo.getObjectValues
oo.simpleArrayUnion
We'd have:

oo.Object.extend
oo.Object.isPlain
oo.Object.clone
oo.Object.keys (obsolete, ES5 has Object.keys)
oo.Object.values
oo.Array.quickUnion (or something like that)
More like YUI for example, as well as like methods in javascript itself.

Is there a JS error or exception in the console?

[Bug 56874] Javascript (via action=raw&ctype=text/javascript) should be purged on page edits

That's fairly unrelated. From what I understand local storage of gadget JS has
cache invalidation all worked out, its just some extra things might stick
around taking up space in LocalStorage which is unideal but wouldn't cause old
versions to show up.

I should clarify my comment above wasn't to say its less important of an issue,
its just important to clarify which bugs are we intend that x does y, but that
doesn't happen, and which bugs are it would be nice if x does y but no one has
made that happen yet.

Well it does something, just not what you want it to do...

It clears cache of things viewed through normal web view. The dialog is
primarily to stop people from linking directly to the purge page
Instead of via a normal url.

I don't think you are having the caching issue you think you are. The
squid/varnish cache for non-rl js
*only applies to logged out users
*would last about 30 days not ten minutes.

You description makes it maybe sound like something to do with local browser
cache maybe. Would need more investigation.

I don't disagree. (In certain cases anyhow)

Perhaps an unideal design, but per above I don't think this is related to the
issue you are seeing
