[Bug 43817] Include short descriptions for extensions bundled in the release

2013-12-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=43817

--- Comment #6 from John Mark Vandenberg jay...@gmail.com ---
Created attachment 14022
  -- https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=14022action=edit
1.22 extension descriptions are red and blue dead links

I just ran through a clean 1.22 web installer process, which does have
descriptions for the extensions.

However the descriptions include wikilinks like Lets users select
[[special:gadgets|custom CSS and JavaScript gadgets]] in their
[[special:preferences#mw-prefsection-gadgets|preferences]] with the first
wikilink being _red_, and the second wikilink being blue. Neither red or blue
link work because the installation process hasnt been commenced yet, so there
is no mediawiki to understand these special: URLs.

The extension descriptions with this problem are: Gadgets, Interwiki, Nuke
Renameuser (ignore SpecialInterwiki - that is a different bug)

[Bug 58074] Reinstate namespace aliases on ml sites

(In reply to comment #4)
but even an old version (I checked a three weeks old one) did not define this
NS_USER for any other ml sites than wikibooks, as Dereckson wrote in
 comment 3.

That is because these aliases are defined in MediaWiki core [1]. They have been
there for at least 12 months.

I set my local test wiki to Malayalam and the aliases work as expected. I have
no idea why they are now not working on the WMF cluster.

I've moved 1.6 GByte of old logs to
/data/project/.system/logs/temp-refuge-from-webproxy/ (0600'ed to be on the
safe side).

On non-VM systems, I would create an extra partition for /var/log/apache2 to
isolate this; I'm not sure what's the best way to proceed in Labs and Puppet.
Probably we should increase the HD space for this instance as well.

Even though I believe we don't use Icinga yet, tools-webproxy's listed there
with DISK OK as current status
(http://icinga.wmflabs.org/cgi-bin/icinga/extinfo.cgi?type=2host=tools-webproxy.pmtpa.wmflabsservice=Disk+Space).
 This should be adjusted.

The webservers have 2.1 GByte to 5.4 GByte free in / as of now, but isolating
/var/log/apache2 there is probably prudent, too.

[Bug 58137] Kill SkinTemplateOutputPageBeforeExec hook

2013-12-06 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=58137

--- Comment #3 from Tyler Romeo tylerro...@gmail.com ---
 MediaWiki hook
 Allows extension to change functionality

That's the purpose of hooks. The issue here is not with the hook, but with
extensions that are misusing the hook.

For example, let's say we make the hook more specific in an attempt to make it
less generic and dangerous, and instead the hook allows extensions to *only*
change language_urls. Extension developers could still misuse the hook and
insert non-language URLs into the template.

The problem is that the template parameters are not well-defined enough, and
because of that extension developers are misusing the template parameters. It
would be ridiculous to instead make fifty different hooks, each for a different
template parameter that needs to be altered.

It seems like gadget scripts are (usually?) not minified.

They should be minified and if possible combined into a single request.
