https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48005 --- Comment #10 from Philippe Verdy --- Note that full deletion is generally not needed and not wanted: saving as "!!FUZZY:!!" only preserves the history, and allows seeing it in the activity of participants. [Bug 48005] Translate: Provide a way to delete a translation
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48005 --- Comment #9 from Philippe Verdy --- It is not off-topic, you just don't understand the real issue that was cannot easily mark a translation as really bad. IF you don't want to modify the edit interface, instead provide icons in the Rereading view, so that we can vote AGAINST (not just FOR as now!!!) this translation and allow with this icon to: - reverting it to the previous version (this only requires the capability to revert pages, any logged on userhave this right, unless it has been blocked by removing his "reviewer" right), - or delete it if there's none (it requires wiki admin privileges, different from the "translate admin" group) - or saving it as "!!FUZZY!!" only (equivalent solution that does not require any admin privileges but the standard user rights of all translators). In any of these 3 cases, there should be a way to explain why we vote AGAINST the translation and want to revert/delete it. This is abolsutely need for quality review of translations, a work that any translator participant should be allowed to do himself, and subject to the general policy of translators. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. I added this to the backlog, so if no one takes this, we plan to take care of it at some point. However, this will also require running a script, similarly to before. > 'login-https' should *not* be added back in, because > 'userlogin-signwithsecure' > was created to replace it. I think these messages are actually signupend-https and loginend-https. If I'm reading the code right, signupend-https was actually reinstated when signupend was, though it only takes effect if it's on HTTPS, and both signupend and signupend-https are non-blank. We could potentially keep it (and loginend-https) for third-party users (as with the others), but I'm not sure if it's still useful. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 48005] Translate: Provide a way to delete a translation
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48005 --- Comment #7 from Philippe Verdy --- Note also that the Translate tool could also force all items in the translated page to be created immediately with "!!FUZZY!!" and nothing else. These entries containing only "!!FUZZY!!" would be considered everywhere as being untranslated at all, including in statistics. All entries will be found by FuzzyBots, that will discard them. When to save all these "!!FUZZY!!" items ? Only when creating it the 1st time: first save it as "!!FUZZY!!" to create it, wait for completion, save the first edited content. This allows easy revert of edits by reviewers (and notably by those that monitor a partially translated page that was created with minimum content to test the interface (they are receiving notification emails for EACH nexly created item because they monitor the generated page). Translation review is an important process and is full part of the Translate tool (where it is called locally "rereading"). Rereading translations should allow marking translations as FUZZY in a single click even without changing it and keeping its content. If a translation is clearly abusive, translators should also be allowed to blank it: when saving, there can be a dialog asking if they really want to delete the translation, in which case it will be saved as "!!FUZZY!!". This dialog should offer a way to enter an edit comment for explaining why it was blanked. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. Yeah we did that for 'signupstart' and 'signupend', so if someone wants to submit a patch for 'loginstart' and 'loginend', they're welcome to. 'login-https' should *not* be added back in, because 'userlogin-signwithsecure' was created to replace it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 48005] Translate: Provide a way to delete a translation
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=48005 --- Comment #5 from Philippe Verdy --- It is highly related : the translation may have been created the first time only with spammed or completely bogous content, or random content It is then impossible to revert it to something else that will not be fuzzy, we want deletion to restore the language fallback that would have been used, or want that the translate tool does not use this fuzzy item (which was initially created not fuzzy by the abuser, but reverted as fuzzy after review by another translator). Suppose you mark a new page, all its translatable items don't have any translation, and many languages won't have any translation for a very long time. At any time an abuser will come and will fill in some slang words or non-sense. As this is a page creation, we cannot revert it. We also cannot blank it completely (the Translate tool does not accept blank entries). What we want is the equivalent: filling the content with blank, marked as fuzzy, the saved translation itme will contain now only "!!FUZZY!" and won't be used in the generated page, fallbacks will apply. It is not very evident to blank those items, but we can revert these by entering "!!FUZZY!!" (and nothing else) in the text area before saving it. The edit comment should automatically indicate that - "User blanked the translation and marked it as fuzzy". Note that the Translate tool does not allow us to add an edit comment, it is added automatically. It should also indicate if a content was preserved or only partially modified but also marked by a leading "!!FUZZY:!!" with two edit comments: - "User marked the existing translation as fuzzy" - "User modified translation and marked it as fuzzy" -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 60319] New: Create an OutputPage::removeMeta (or subtractMeta) function
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60319 Web browser: --- Bug ID: 60319 Summary: Create an OutputPage::removeMeta (or subtractMeta) function Product: MediaWiki Version: 1.23-git Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Unprioritized Component: General/Unknown Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org Reporter: nathanlarson3...@gmail.com Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- [[mw:Extension:AllowInternetArchiver]] allows the Internet Archiver to index all pages on the wiki (including history pages) when it's supposed to leave those out. The reason is that the OutputPageBeforeHTML hook is run at least twice, and on one of those runs, the action is empty even though it will later be "history". This causes to be added to those history pages. A workaround would be to remove the meta tag on the later run, but mMetatags is private (or at any rate "Should be private") so either now, or when it's fixed, there's (or there'll be) no way to do it without a function that has that capability. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 60317] Implement reasonably usable skin modification user interface in MediaWiki core
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60317 --- Comment #3 from Quim Gil --- "Themable" icons are also very effective in UI differentiation. The same goes for the styling of buttons. Offering a package with all these configurations isn't trivial, but there is probably some low-hanging fruit to get started (e.g. reading the icons from a site-specific directory before falling back to the general Vector directory). On a related note, this morning I was celebrating [[mw:Winter]] because it proposes to get rid of the blue lines that Vector has so deeply hardcoded. Little changes like this can enable a lot of flexibility for branding and UI customization, not just for Wikimedia but for everybody. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 51912] Make Wikipedia distinct by styling of a prominent UI feature differently than the default
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51912 --- Comment #29 from MZMcBride --- Re-quoting comment 0: > Wikipedia's visual identity should be distinct. It need not be obnoxiously > and loudly distinct. It is probably sufficient to apply a subtle, non-default > styling to a prominent UI element, like changing the color of the Vector > sidebar to a slightly different shade of grey. After giving it some thought, I think this is bullshit. Perhaps in a world where every user is the ideal user (competent, attentive, using decent computer equipment, etc.), subtly changing the sidebar color would work. But people, real people, barely understand what Wikipedia is. They have no idea who Vector is or what a MediaWiki is. As far as they're concerned, "Wikimedia" is a typo for "Wikipedia". And most of them have bad eyes or bad computer monitors, so the sidebar blends in to the page content. This is to say: for the people who can distinguish a URL bar and the logo, any subtle change won't help; for everyone else, any subtle change won't help. That leaves us with a non-subtle change. I don't really want to pursue that. Perhaps there are specific, actionable items that can come from this bug, but as far as I'm concerned, at the moment, I'd consider it invalid. This isn't to say that every idea here is bad or shouldn't be pursued. We should definitely make it easier to customize the skin (echoing Trevor in comment 4 and Jared in comment 25), but I don't currently see much path for growth in this bug report. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=51912 --- Comment #26 from Matthew Flaschen --- (In reply to comment #20) > @Matt, the way I read the bug was that us someone goes to mediawiki.org, > downloads and installs the CMS, in its out of the box configuration it should > not be confused with a wikimedia foundation wiki. Sidenote, it's wiki software, not a CMS. See https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Security_issues_with_authorization_extensions . > Which would mean some possibly radical changes to the skin. I think this goes > beyond logos and color. I agree with Quim. Having WMF-specific overrides on things like color, logos, typeface, footer, sidebar, etc. should be enough. There's also extensions. Although the primary purpose is to add new (open source) functionality, since different wikis have different extensions installed, that also creates a different experience. If we have actual different core functionality on by default, that means additional common configuration possibilities to test and less efficient collaboration with non-WMF developers. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 45767] Private wikis need to override "wikimedia-copyright" message
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=45767 --- Comment #16 from Luis Villa (WMF Legal) --- So, for generic private wikis I'd like to propose using this language: "This wiki is private, and you may have agreed to keep the information in it confidential. Where confidentiality obligations do not apply, material in the wiki is available under CC BY-SA 3.0. By using this site, you also agree to the Terms of Use and Privacy Policy." [Linkify as appropriate.] If the wiki clearly/definitely has an applicable confidentiality agreement, "may" would be removed and "have agreed to keep the information in it confidential" would be linked to the appropriate confidentiality agreement. For sites where the footer appears to claim copyright for the Foundation, I'm comfortable replacing it with this - in many instances, the claim appears to be inaccurate, and where it is accurate, we can license it under CC when it isn't confidential information. This is obviously not ideal, and we can continue to look at the details to help make it more clear/specific for particular wikis. But I think it strikes a good balance of (1) being footer-sized (2) reminding people of their obligations and (3) stating that where the obligations aren't applicable, CC is assumed to be the default. Thoughts/suggestions/etc. welcome. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l
