I talked to Mark during the RFC summit and he thought that it would be
reasonable to change the varnish::instance define so that a regex of allowed
method could be provided per deploy. This could then be used to allow PUT on
the misc-lb instances.

Both are required. With the first patch a toc toggle for the preview is

Two ways to fix:
1. Remove the locales for zhwikivoyage.
2. Set $wgVariantArticlePath

True, removing the locales needs some consensus, but as $wgVariantArticlePath
is not set, removing the locales IMO is a proper fix.

2014-01-23 Thread bugzilla-daemon

I've retitled the bug (problem isn't just for *new* items, it's for *all* items
that doesn't have a description or interwiki in a language you speak).

Obviously, I can't *edit* item content in languages that I don't speak, either.

My proposed solution would be that, at the bottom of the "in other languages"
box (currently only displaying languages on the user's #Babel), an additional
"in other languages" button is displayed. On clicking that new button, all
languages which have an item name and/or description will be displayed. At the
bottom of that, there should be an "add" button for adding item descriptions in
arbitrary languages, similar to the [add] button at the bottom of the interwiki
list.

Well, I guess that would have been whomever set up the Oversight-L mailing
list, which has always resulted in the following "TO" line:

"Requests to permanently remove personal information from the English Wikipedia
"

It certainly said that in early 2007 (when I first requested an edit be
oversighted).

There is a rather well-known case of oversight that occurred in 2007 where
developers were requested to restore certain oversighted edits and refused
(even though there was agreement the oversight was done in error), and thus the
enwiki community has had reason to believe that there was no foreseeable
circumstance under which an edit would be restored.

This is a really good opportunity for the WMF to have a positive communication
interaction with the community - it's a net positive change, the responses to
questions are positive and reassuring, and it will demonstrate the WMF's
commitment to respecting user privacy (and telling them when something has
changed in some way with respect to that) can effectively work hand-in-hand
with software improvements. It's concerning that there's such vehement
objection to communication, especially communication that is very likely to
positively reflect good community/developer interaction.

only (wikimedia.org/*, wikipedia.org/*, etc). Brad Jorsch, is that considered
unsafe?

On a personal level this is the work flow that I'd like the most but I can

When the end user authorizes the consumer, it saves the list of grants that the
end user actually authorized. So it *should* work that the consumer would
continue to be granted only the old set of permissions until such time as the
it sends the end user through the authorization page again and the end user

Bug ID: 60386
Summary: Install luasocket for all sister projects to use with
Scribunto
   Product: Wikimedia
   Version: wmf-deployment
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: UNCONFIRMED

  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: General/Unknown
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: gryll...@fastmail.fm

Lua code:
-- loads the HTTP module and any libraries it requires
local http = require("socket.http")

local p = {}

function p.main(frame)
  r, e = http.request("http://wrong.host/";)
  return e
end

return p

Invoke code:
{{#invoke:Foo|main}}

Expected result:
Returned 'host not found' or some like.

Actual result:
Returned "script error".

Rationale:
Retrieve API URLs contents using Lua, like it is now possible in JS. Note
that there wouldn't be a high additional load, since the module would only be
loaded when a Lua module is invoked, and only if it has a relevant require()
statement.

Okay, so I played with this idea on [[testwiki:]]

and came up with:

{{#ifeq:{{PROTECTIONLEVEL:create|{{FULLPAGENAME|sysop|create this

This works. Maybe this is something that should be fixed in core at some
point, but this works for me for now.

Maybe because we've set "Content language variant" in our pref? I find the URL

We've historically avoided submodules in MW core because they add complications
for down-stream users of git.

Also, note in this case that these aren't just "copy-and-pasted" OOjs / OOjs-UI
trees, but are built, bundled libraries via a grunt process.

OOJS tags. I really hate the proposal of copy/pasting code there.

If we want to ship them on Wikimedia cluster, we can still use submodules like
we are doing in wmf branches with extensions.

To ship OOUI / OOJS with MediaWiki tarball, the make-release script we are
using can be made to proceed submodules and thus include the content in the

Bug ID: 60384
   Summary: hhvm not working

Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

I enabled the hhvm role and ran `vagrant provision`. I had a problem with
hhvm's libmemcached6 conflicting with my outdated php5-memcached's
libmemcached10, but `sudo apt-get install php5-memcached` fixed that and then
`vagrant provision` worked. I have a /usr/bin/hhvm binary that runs.

However, my Special:Version says "PHP 5.3.10-1ubuntu3.9 (fpm-fcgi)".

I've tried:
* `sudo apachectl restart`, ps shows "/usr/sbin/apache2 -D HHVM -k start"

* I noticed I have a number of "php-fpm: pool www" processes. I did `sudo
service php5-fpm stop` and restarted apache again, and then apache error log
failed with
 [Thu Jan 23 23:08:48 2014] [error] [client 10.0.2.2] (111)Connection refused:
FastCGI: failed to connect to server "/usr/lib/cgi-bin/php5-hhvm":
 I have no such file.

* `vagrant reload` didn't help

* I tried `sudo /etc/init.d/hhvm start` , /vagrant/logs/hhvm-error.log
contains:
Unable to read pid file /var/run/hhvm/pid for any meaningful pid
  Unable to start page server

I feel that the burden for this communication should lie on the shoulders of
the individuals who misled the community in this way.

Certainly, when we developed the OS tool (whilst I was on ArbCom), we were
careful to note that the information was not actually removed from the database
entirely, and that it was theoretically open to sub poena and viewing by people
with special access, but that it was beyond the reach of mere administrators.

> there is good reason to anticipate some negative reaction if there isn't
> solid communication in advance.

Quite possibly. I'd suggest that the community 'functionaries' be alerted and
asked to inform their communities. After all, they own the responsibility for
keeping abreast of privileged rights; on enwiki this is ArbCom.

Sure, maybe it was a feature. However, from the perspective of a
non-oversighter, the only effect it had was to not pique their curiosity about
what was previously there. The actual use case of oversight, namely "there is
public information here which I want to remove from public view", is still
satisfied irrespective of whether the placeholder is there or not, as the old
oversighted edits are being migrated to edits that are fully suppressed.
Therefore I'm not terribly concerned about whether that placeholder is there
(i.e. edits are migrated to the revision table) or not (i.e. the edits are
migrated to the archive table); the core use case, full suppression, is still
satisfied.

I think there's no harm in taking this a little slower and sending out some
communications first to the oversighters and stewards and reassuring them that
stuff that was nonpublic will not be made public by this change. I'll try to
sort that communication out.

users
   Product: MediaWiki

  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: General/Unknown
  Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: sminthopsi...@gmail.com
Classification: Unclassified
   Mobile Platform: ---

Intention:
Most wikipedia users can move a page over a "simple" redirect, defined as one
that has had only one edit. That situation is becoming rare as templates are
added, double redirects are "fixed".

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Wanted to move a page over a redirect but couldn't because User:AvicBot had
fixed a double redirect, which brought the total number of edits on that
redirect up to 2.
2. Wasted everybody's time getting that fixed and went about it the wrong way,
which wasted more people's time.
3.

Expected Results:
The discussion at Wikipedia:Village_pump_(technical) proposes changing criteria
for "simple redirects".

Reproducible: Always

Yes I understand that, it has the effect of always hiding the placeholder from
normal users (putting it in the archive is okay if the OS'd revision would have
been page-deleted) and is therefore not going to happen.

I disagree that it should have ever been considered a feature, I don't see the
use case (and actually some people claimed to have a use case but wanted it to
stay private - away from Bugzilla - which is very much against the way
MediaWiki is developed and therefore very heavily encouraged me to WONTFIX it).
The idea has a separate bug of it's own which is WONTFIXed. Here is not the
place to try to bring it up again.

I think this should raise an exception, as it creates a Page object without

On the other hand, it's equivalent to

which should be the main page.

In any case, the correct way to do what you want is

That's not a bug, it was very much a feature of the tool as originally designed
and used, I think it's legitimate to do this change but that's a different
question. This is a change in state for very legitimate reasons, but not a
bugfix.

That said it's possible you don't understand what I meant. I don't meant to
fully hide the placeholder, just to drop them into deleted revisions. That
would theoretically be possible for the community to (manually) do for them
we'd just be doing it automatically which makes sense given the number of
revisions. The effect would be as if the page was deleted and then restored
without those revisions. They would still be viewable under Special:Undelete
like any deleted&suppressed edit is viewable now.

Note that the pywikibot package is a symlink to the latest git version of core.

So the placeholder would be hidden? It's possible and the script could be
changed to do it, but the fact that those got hidden is basically seen as a
bug, not a feature.

Any patch to do it would get a -2 from me.

As a thought to help address the concern about these appearing suddenly in page
histories: How difficult would it be to adjust the script so that these edits
were moved to both 'suppressed' status as well as being fully deleted (as if
the page was deleted and those revisions were not restored, similar to the old
'poor mans oversight' ).

If that was done does it address concerns/raise others with anyone?

James is asking to put the revisions in the archive table rather than the
revision table, as I understand it.
