[Bug 61102] New: Soften qdel behaviour from KILL
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61102 Web browser: --- Bug ID: 61102 Summary: Soften qdel behaviour from KILL Product: Wikimedia Labs Version: unspecified Hardware: All OS: All Status: NEW Severity: enhancement Priority: Unprioritized Component: tools Assignee: m...@uberbox.org Reporter: t...@tim-landscheidt.de CC: benap...@gmail.com, t...@tim-landscheidt.de Classification: Unclassified Mobile Platform: --- At the moment, qdel KILLs the job; this is a bit rude. If jsub would call "qsub -notify", SGE would signal the job before KILLing it. The signal is set by "execd_param"'s NOTIFY_KILL; default is SIGUSR1, I would favour SIGTERM (or a SIGHUP -> SIGINT -> SIGTERM cascade) as I suppose more programs will already have a suitable handler for that. The queue parameter "notify" defines the interval between signals; given that many jobs in Tools use database and other network connections, I would be fairly generous here and propose 60 s (that means in the worst case of a SIGHUP -> SIGINT -> SIGTERM -> SIGKILL cascade 180 s which I find acceptable; for special cases, roots can always log into the exec node and kill at will). -- You are receiving this mail because: You are on the CC list for the bug. ___ Wikibugs-l mailing list Wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org https://lists.wikimedia.org/mailman/listinfo/wikibugs-l

https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=47741 --- Comment #3 from Quiddity --- (In reply to comment #2) > That said, this isn't a major bug since it's rare that a) a user would > immediately check their Echo preferences after creation or b) receive an echo > notification within 5-10 seconds of account creation. If it's their first account in the SUL system, they'll get a "welcome" Notification instantly. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61099 --- Comment #2 from Bartosz Dziewoński --- (In reply to comment #1) > Just brainstorming now... Providing generated images on the fly is not that > radical, or hard with any PHP graphics library. We already convert and scale > images and generate math. All mixin would have to do is create an image url > that contains the colors and stops in its filename and call upon that URL in > the generated CSS. Then the libraly generates and caches that gradient > background image. We could already embed SVGs in data: URIs directly in CSS and use whatever variables we wish in them, but the problem here is the old browsers which don't support neither data: URIs nor SVGs :) And this, as serving dynamic resources is a lot slower than static resources, would mean another layer of caching, and that would probably mean more cache invalidation mess on top of what we already have. It would also probably mean more pesky configuration for the kind of people and hosting setups who struggle with, say, getting MediaWiki to accept uploads. Feel free to prove me wrong, but currently I think that dynamic generation of graphics for skins, while definitely possible, is not something we would want to do. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61063 --- Comment #4 from Oliver Keyes --- Alright, you want to hunt for: *hits to uri_path /wiki/File:Thailand_Surin_locator_map.svg *Between 2014-01-20T10:14:00 and 2014-01-20T10:15:00 (hopefully that's anonymised enough) From that particular example, it looks like the (intact) request was a MISS from the varnish cache's point of view, which explains the immediate repeat of the request. Whether it's also responsible for the lack of referrer data is too network engineer-y for me to know - but it is a potential limiter if we want to use MIME type filtering for say, pageviews. The good news is that, assuming my data sample is representative (and it's probably off, since it's 128k mobile views from a specific date), this only happens about 0.03 percent of the time. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 61099] Make Vector's basic styles image-independent
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=61099 --- Comment #1 from Erwin Dokter --- I can find the following: Normal pages * page-fade.png for #base-page (top of page) * tab-normal-fade.png for tabs in .vectorTabs (tab-current-fade.png is plain white bg image) * tab-break.png for tab dividers * portal-break.png for navigation dividers (there are also two ltr/rtl version) * search-fade.png in the serach box Preferences page: * fade.png for the active tab in Preferences page (other tabs use only background-color) * break.png for tab dividers The tabs will be the hardest to find any suitable fallback methods for, as its design relies on the gradients. Choose one color, and there will be a hard edge either way. Degradation is very noticable. Portal-break.png could be a solid line, which is just slightly less prettier, so essentially requires no fallback. Search-fade.png is so subtle it is hardly noticable, so requires no fallback. Just brainstorming now... Providing generated images on the fly is not that radical, or hard with any PHP graphics library. We already convert and scale images and generate math. All mixin would have to do is create an image url that contains the colors and stops in its filename and call upon that URL in the generated CSS. [Bug 60997] Math at wmf/1.23wmf12 HEAD seems pretty broken
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60997 --- Comment #3 from physikerwelt --- The patch Sam Reed points to (https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/104991/) seems to produce a high load. Aaron analyzed that via https://graphite.wikimedia.org/render/?width=849&height=455&_salt=1391893417.452&target=MediaWiki.MathHooks.mathTagHook.tavg&from=-7days This load is caused by design. See https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=49169 If the high load is problematic, we need to disable the feature (like $wgMathCheckFiles=false before) again via ($wgMathDisableTexFilter = true) or cache the results of the check. However, this would cause a database lookup. An alternative would be to check via PHP. For a checking via PHP code we would need a very good code review of https://github.com/physikerwelt/texvcCheckPhp. I guess that would require a few days of fulltime work (even for an experienced) PHP programmer. In general I have the feeling that my goal to improve the math rendering in Wikipedia has more negative effects than positive effects for the users. I don't think the problem is that I did a bad job, but I have the impression that I did not manage to find a suitable code reviewer for the Math2.0 change. And breaking down the change to several small commits (that are merged by random choice) creates more problems than it solves. I think the only way to do a good job and create a smooth transition from Math 1.1 to Math 2.0 is to find an experienced MediaWiki-PHP developer and go through the changes in one or two days in a personal meeting. I’m still in Berlin next week and I’ll move to Tokyo until April. [Bug 60916] The links to "Mobile" and "Desktop" at the bottom are not separated
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60916 --- Comment #3 from Amir E. Aharoni --- (In reply to comment #2) > What browser are you seeing this issue in? Firefox desktop. This bug started a very curious discussion among CSS standard makers about what is the Right Standard Behavior for browsers in this case. Until it's resolved uniformly in all browsers, I guess that there should be an nbsp or a zwnj, as suggested in the opening report. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. [Bug 60461] Replicate OSM to a database server accessible by Labs users
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=60461 --- Comment #3 from Marc A. Pelletier --- It's a fairly hefty box; it has 32G of ram and 8 cores. No SSD for that one, it uses an array of spinning rust (about 9T worth, once in raid). Keep in mind though that the postgresql master is going to share resources with the mysql (tools-db replacement) slave, and vice versa.
