@Xqt: if you have set family = 'wikipedia' and mylang = 'de' in your
user-config.py, the parser may get confused about interwiki links to the same
family.

Sage, can you clarify what are your requirements for "notify"? As I said on the
patch, «the objective you state would be satisfied by adding the page to
watchlist and enabling the relevant enotif preferences». Any reason why enotif
doesn't suffice?

Why would this feature be WONTFIX from a core point of view?

We're already doing DB test to see if a page exists. And redirect information
is already stored relatively cheaply in the database. What is stopping us from
having a simple option that traverses one level of redirects when doing page
existence checks?

That section is not really about "Account management" in core; that clutter is
added by CentralAuth and OAuth. Considering bug 52342, only "change password"

[Bug 32284] Update Echo Notifications in real time without page reloads

2014-04-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon

--- Comment #7 from Kunal Mehta (Legoktm) ---
I put together a POC at I8f7bc77d05762fd12927437f6450ae3f97eb84af.

It simply polls the API every 60 seconds to check for new notifications (it
kinda but not really works).

That said, I don't think polling is a good idea. We should instead have some
kind of websockets service pushing notifications to the user/browser. This
might line up well with [[mw:Requests for comment/Publishing the RecentChanges
feed]].

This is indeed a duplicate of bug 61285 (more or less). But wait.. there is
more.
I'm not sure if I should reopen that one or write here. But I will write the
bugreport.
I've studied 61285 a bit, and to summarize, the fix in gerrit change 113988 was
the following in puppet/modules/browsertests/manifests/init.pp:80

 -cwd => '/srv/browsertests',
 +cwd => '/srv/browsertests/tests/browser',

I've used mediawiki-vagrant commit 875f18f77b5d95be5168a142758178d06a33a6bc and
bumped into the same problem described in bug 61285.

After trying to manually run the command that puppet was failing on, I've got
this:

vagrant@mediawiki-vagrant:/srv/browsertests/tests/browser$ bundle install
--path /home/vagrant/.gem
/usr/lib/ruby/1.9.1/fileutils.rb:247:in `mkdir': Permission denied -
/home/vagrant/.gem/ruby (Errno::EACCES)
[...]

Apparently something set the permission of /home/vagrant/.gem to root:root

vagrant@mediawiki-vagrant:/srv/browsertests/tests/browser$ ls -la ~/
[...]
drwxr-xr-x 2 rootroot 4096 Apr 5 21:24 .gem
[...]

After changing the permission of /home/vagrant/.gem to vagrant:vagrant, the
bundle command ran succesfuly, and after that I ran vagrant provision and
everything went well.

Maybe this could be incorporated in the puppet manifest ?

[Bug 63989] New: 'Insert Media' in VE fails to search local repo, returns blank.

2014-04-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63989

Bug ID: 63989
 Summary: 'Insert Media' in VE fails to search local repo,
returns blank.
 Product: VisualEditor
 Version: unspecified
 Hardware: All
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: Editing Tools
 Assignee: jforrester+veteambztick...@wikimedia.org
 Reporter: t...@4zzz.org.au
CC: jforres...@wikimedia.org, krinklem...@gmail.com,

tpars...@wikimedia.org
 Web browser: ---
 Mobile Platform: ---

Running an up-to-date VisualEditor extension and parsoid server on
mediawiki-1.22.2, when I use 'Insert Media' no matter the search term (exact
filenames are no better) nothing is returned.

Checking server logs and debugging client browser data shows that VE only goes
as far as a call to the API
'api.php?format=json&action=query&meta=filerepoinfo' which returns:

{
 query: {
repos: [
 {
name: "local",
displayname: null,
rootUrl: "/images",
local: true
 }
]
 }
}

There are no further queries to the API after this call.

I can add wikiCommons, with "$wgUseInstantCommons = true", which successfully
searches the wikiCommons, but has no effect on local media.

I can manually add media with the standard editor and the
syntax, but if I double click a previously attached image in VE all of the
fields in the media dialog box are vacant and I can't change any values or even
close the dialog.

A query of 'api.php?action=query&list=allimages&format=json' returns a complete
set of media as expected.

Further, looking at the API documentation on the server the example listed for
filerepoinfo is
'api.php?action=query&meta=filerepoinfo&friprop=apiurl|name|displayname', but
it returns in the warnings field: "Unrecognized value for parameter 'friprop':
apiurl". Suggesting that perhaps a variable in LocalSettings.php is missing or
inaccurate, I've looked over this several times, but don't see any glaring
issues.

The server in question is behind an intranet, but I'm happy to answer any
questions.

Thanks,
Patrick

A template to style the link, added by the editors manually. Interesting. This

In any case this would be a WONTFIX from a MediaWiki Core point of view.

[Bug 378] Display links to redirects that link to non-existent pages in red

2014-04-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=378

--- Comment #19 from Quiddity ---
There are 3 separate issues here:

(In reply to xmlizer from comment #0)
> And in X -> Y(r) -> Z(r) -> {T}, the link in X to Y should be a red link
> because the last {T} doesn't exists

1) Double redirects. We don't do these at all, and processes exist to
automatically fix them. See:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Double_redirects
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:DoubleRedirects
[Definite WONTFIX. But not seriously considered except in Comment #0.]

2) Whether we're *allowed* to create/keep Redirects to non-existent targets. At
the surface this is guideline/policy issue. However, one major aspect
preventing their acceptance is the confusion that would arise if one of these
Redirects was linked within an article. It would look blue, but lead nowhere.
Hence:

3) Whether links to Redirects to currently-non-existent targets can technically
be colored red.
I.e. X -> Y(r) -> {T}, where {T} doesn't exist, the link in X to Y could be a
red link.
This would be quite useful, as Michael Hardy explains best in Comment #7.
They're currently (on Enwiki) speedily-deleted per WP:CSD#G8 (criteria for
speedy deletion - General issue #8), specifically: "redirects to invalid
targets, such as non-existent targets".

So, the question is:
* MediaWiki: Is there another (cheaper) method of checking if a redirect
targets an existing page?
E.g. Could editors add a template to the redirect, specifying that it's a
{pre-emptive redirect}, and thus incoming links should be marked red (until
that template is removed)?
Or something else?

The required code is:

return array(

,
$context->getRequest()->getIP(),
,

,

)

Only the IP address should be returned, in theory the autoblocked user knows
her own IP address. All the other information is likely to directly identify
the blocked user.

CCing some colleagues to check whether this would make sense in the context of

[Bug 63689] When VisualEditor not available, wikitext editor still shows a edit switcher button in toolbar

2014-04-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63689

--- Comment #2 from Ryan Kaldari ---
I can't replicate this. If I disable the VisualEditor and try to load the
editor in Alpha mode, the editor won't even load. It gives me an unknown
dependency JS error. Looking at the code in editor.js, it doesn't look like it
takes into account the possibility of the VisualEditor being disabled (which
should probably be filed as a different bug).

If you can replicate this, please post more detailed replication steps.

The correct link is
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Case_sensitivity_of_page_names

Coincidentally, I also found
https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Case_insensitivity_of_page_names , where you
can find more argumentation pro and against case-sensitiveness.

In any case, nobody is currently planning to work on this. Setting priority
accordingly.

[Bug 63988] New: Put non-preferences user profile info on user page or at the top of Special:Contributions

2014-04-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63988

Bug ID: 63988
 Summary: Put non-preferences user profile info on user page or
at the top of Special:Contributions
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: User preferences
 Assignee: wikibugs-l@lists.wikimedia.org
 Reporter: b...@mzmcbride.com
CC: agarr...@wikimedia.org
Blocks: 62559
 Web browser: ---
 Mobile Platform: ---

As a follow-up to bug 63987, currently in the "Basic information"
Special:Preferences section, you see something like this:

---
Username: Jimbo Wales
User ID: 1234
Member of groups: Autoconfirmed users, Users
Connected apps:Manage 123 connected applications
Number of edits: 123,456
Registration time: 12:34, 15 January 2001
Global account status: All in order!
 Your account is active on 123 project sites.
 (Manage your global account | View global account info)
Password: Change password
 [ ] Remember my login on this browser (for a maximum of
 30 days)
 [ ] Always use a secure connection when logged in
---

Most of this info (edit count, registration time, etc.) should be available in
a more logical location. Perhaps on a user's user page or via the info action
for the user's user page (i.e., index.php?title=User:Jimbo_Wales&action=info)?
Or perhaps a dedicated Special page such as Special:AboutMe? Or perhaps at the
top of Special:Contributions?

Proposal for this bug: make this account info available at the top of
Special:Contributions or in an auto-generated footer template on user
pages.

[Bug 63987] New: Change "Basic information" section of Special:Preferences into "Account management"

2014-04-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63987

Bug ID: 63987
 Summary: Change "Basic information" section of
Special:Preferences into "Account management"
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW

Currently in the "Basic information" Special:Preferences section, you see
something like this:

---
Username: Jimbo Wales
User ID: 1234
Member of groups: Autoconfirmed users, Users
Connected apps:Manage 123 connected applications

Password: Change password
 [ ] Remember my login on this browser (for a maximum of
 30 days)
 [ ] Always use a secure connection when logged in
---

This is problematic because most of this info (edit count, registration time,
etc.) isn't related to setting preferences; it's out of scope.

Proposal for this bug: change "Basic information" into "Account management" (or
similar wording) and include only:

---
* Manage 123 connected applications
* Manage your global account | View global account info
* Change password
[ ] Always use a secure connection when logged in
---

I'll file a separate bug about where to move the non-preferences information.

--- Comment #18 from Quim Gil ---
There were two parallel discussions here. One was about (en.wiki?) policies.
The other one was about software performance.

Since this is a request for MediaWiki Core, the discussion about policies is
secondary, and what really matters is this:

(In reply to Wil Mahan from comment #5)
> To do this, we'd need to check every link to see if it is a redirect
> (right now, this happens for users with a stub length threshold
> set), and check whether the targets of the redirects exist. I
> don't think it's worth it, especially without a clear consensus
> for the change.

(In reply to Aaron Schulz from comment #14)
> I do like the "write a quick stub" idea. Better than having the db
> recursively query a bunch of crap.

In other words, an expensive price for what seems to be a minor feature.

This report was WONTFIXED almost a decade ago, and it was reopened because it
was considered that the policy should be discussed. Looking only at the
software side, this looks indeed like a WONTFIX in 2014.

I feel like this came up within the past year. The wikitech-l mailing list or
Bugzilla may have additional discussion. I'd also recommend reading bug 22256

decided to ultimately not advocate for removal.

--- Comment #1 from Ori Livneh ---
An 'apt-get update' fixes it. We could do away with this class of problems
entirely by forcing an apt-get update at the beginning of each Puppet run, but
this makes the run time of 'vagrant provision' substantially longer, and in the
majority of cases an update is not actually required. There's room for some
clever solution that runs apt-get update only when an attempt to fetch some
package results in a 404, but it is beyond the scope of this particular bug, so
I'm closing it.

I used your notes as the basis for a patch --
https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/#/c/126133/ -- that makes automatic provisioning
of HHVM work. Thanks very much for documenting this. Everything should work out
of the box now (i.e., it should require nothing more than vagrant enable-role
hhvm / vagrant provision). Please re-open if things are still broken.

VE's edit surface has a body font size of 0.8em (equals 13px) which mismatches
with the new default body font size (0.875em, which translates to 14px on
Chrome and Firefox on most systems). The same is true for line-height, which is
now 1.6em for body content.

We should make sure the two are consistent. The body font stack and heading
settings do get translated to VE edit mode correctly, so we're close. :)

2014-04-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63978

--- Comment #5 from Jared Zimmerman (WMF) ---
Current users will likely use the access point in the same way they are now, I
don't think the change from ≡ to W will affect discoverability there. This is a
common pattern both on desktop and mobile for the site logo to go home, or have
menu-like functions

ok

Yes, ≡ is not an obvious thing to click on for many users, I think W has the
benefits of being both "about the site (branding)" and used in a way that is
consistent with other mobile patterns, while avoiding the ≡ that is unclear to
many

Testing can be done, but I think that it will be inconclusive (e.g. ≡ and W
will test the same in a small sample size), if we can make the change on Beta
now it would allow for some quick guerilla testing of the production code
rather than a lot of mockups. Sound reasonable?

Per bug 51245 Parsoid now has the start of a CSS module – gerrit 124785 – which
we should pull into VE. Once we've done that we can start upstreaming a lot of
our local CSS hacks into Parsoid and save the effort. :-)

[Bug 63978] replace ≡ (hamburger menu) with wikifont W symbol for site drawer.

--- Comment #4 from Jon ---
Just for clarity sake:
(I know we previously discussed a hamburger/W hybrid icon)

Are we confident that people will know this is a button that they can click on?

When we released the hamburger for the first time there were various reports of
us adding a random feature that had been sitting there for a year or so. We
previously had a W icon.

That said there have also been reports the hamburger is not clear as an icon.

It would be good if we had some user testing data to back up this change so
it's not just for the sake of change and we don't revisit it yet again later.
We are already seeing lots of icon changes (currently the mobile team is having
to redo the notifications icon to be a bell icon) and I'd hate this to continue
the trend of changing icons willy nilly.

[Bug 63980] New: Comparison of limits in pingLimiter is incorrect

2014-04-15 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63980

Bug ID: 63980
 Summary: Comparison of limits in pingLimiter is incorrect
 Product: MediaWiki
 Version: unspecified
 Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
 Keywords: easy
 Severity: normal
 Priority: Unprioritized
Component: General/Unknown

There is a comment on includes/User.php saying that
> If more than one group applies, use the group with the highest limit
However, if I understood the code correctly, the comparison of the limits is
not correct. For example, consider these two limits:
> $limit1 = array( 1, 10 );
> $limit2 = array( 2, 60 );
The highest limit is $limit1, which allows 6 actions per minute, but a test
like
$limit1 > $limit2 will be false (it is a comparison of the first entries of the
arrays, right?):
http://3v4l.org/vhf4Q

It should probably compare quotients like "actions/seconds" to decide which
limit is the highest.
