So we had to parse the page text for categories, but that didn't catch categories added by template. So it contains quite a bit of trickery to work around this problem. Now we do have proper api access a proper implementation becomes possible: * Loop over templates to see if doesn't contain a template to skip (like nominated for deletion). This should include template redirects * Loop over the categories. * Check for each category if it's hidden * If you find a category that is not hidden, break * If you finish without finding a category that's not hidden - tag it It's should be written with a Class (instead of the different functions we have right now). That would give me an array of translationUnits which do not contain a single unit of section headers and other text mixed up. Once I have such array, I could scan the sourceUnits and translationUnits and and match up section headers in the order they appear. In the second case (hovercard shown farer away from the link) this leads to an issue: There is some dead space between the linked area of the link and the linked are of the hovercard. If one moves the mouse (not too fast) from link to hovercard in this case the hovercard dissappears before the cursor actually reaches it. I can't replicate this bug. But I think this is actually invalid.
This 'Clarify' template on enwiki uses some clever 'Unsubst' lua module hack to
deliberately break subst - take a look at the source. Also notice how that
'date' parameter appeared from nowhere?
I tested this out using the normal editor (just added '{{subst:Clarify}}'):

I was just checking [[Category:Vector version available/error]] and I noticed
that most of the errors there are caused by CommonsDelinker. It seems like the
bot just removes the names of deleted pages, turning {{vector version
available|file:file.svg}} into {{vector version available|}}. The empty file
here produces an error. If possible it would be preferable to detect this case
and replace the whole template with {{convert to svg}} instead.
