[Bug 67406] New: IPA annotations are not translateable

2014-07-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67406

Bug ID: 67406
Summary: IPA annotations are not translateable
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: WikidataRepo
  Assignee: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: mov...@gmail.com

   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

Created attachment 15812
  --> https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/attachment.cgi?id=15812&action=edit
Visual example of the issue

A given entity has a different name in different languages. This means that is
is also spoken differently.

Current behaviour:
Currently it is only possible to have a global IPA annotation per entity as a
Statement (Property:P898), rather than one IPA annotation per
language/translation.

Expected behaviour:
IPA annotations must be possible on the title in a given language, as well in
the tags in the "Also known as:" section. Therefore, any way of speaking a
given entity can be annotated properly.

[Bug 54604] Large number of CSS rules for external links

This is also a problem for VisualEditor. Even in the current system, not
including any micro-contribution tools that Gabriel talks about, we would need
three entirely separate copies of this logic, in:
* MediaWiki's wikitext->HTML parser
* Parsoid, to generate correct HTML
* VisualEditor, to display newly created links correctly

VE generally deals well with styling that comes from the parser side and
displays it correctly, but in this case the user could create a link entirely
from scratch, and that link might be a .pdf link. Then even though there may
not be another .pdf link anywhere on the page, we still need to know that .pdf
is magical and should trigger a certain CSS class in order to produce the
correct rendering. That's why we need a full duplicate of the icon logic.

So in general, we try to move this kind of logic fully *into* CSS, rather than
*out of* CSS and into *code*. Last year this was done for auto-numbered
external link numbering: instead of implementing a bunch of numbering logic
both in Parsoid and in VE, we were able to number them entirely in CSS using
CSS3 counters.

With that in mind, I would much prefer that link icons be done in pure CSS,
with attribute selectors in their full "glory". That way VisualEditor and any
other clients that need to generate new HTML will not have to reimplement the
logic from scratch, and instead will just be able to load the CSS. Unless
attribute selectors are horrendously slow (which they're probably not, the
original CSS rules for link icons date back to 2004), moving to classes just
makes things worse, not better.

One issue I didn't mention yet is editor complexity. Every editor for our HTML
including VE will need to replicate the class logic from the parser. This
includes future micro-contribution tools like 'fix this link'. It seems likely
that this will lead to rendering inconsistencies when the logic replication is
not perfect.

[Bug 67402] New: Have SvgHandler create a directory for its RSVG input files

2014-07-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67402

Bug ID: 67402
Summary: Have SvgHandler create a directory for its RSVG input
files
   Product: MediaWiki
   Version: unspecified
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: normal
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: File management

RSVG has recently changed its external entity expansion policy, from allowing
access to all local files to only allowing files in the same directory as the
input file. This is not sufficiently secure for us as it is, since input files
are typically in /tmp and there may be all sorts of private data in /tmp, owned
by apache.

However, it would be nice to securely support the new stock RSVG, so that we
can stop maintaining our security patch, and so that external users can use
RSVG without patching it. So, I propose having SvgHandler create a new
temporary directory on transform, and having it copy (or symlink if RSVG's
security policy allows) the source files into that directory.

We are planning on migrating to Ubuntu 14.04 soon, which means either porting
the security patch or implementing this proposal, hence it is fairly urgent.

Topic title is text, so HTML entities in it simply appear.

But when you view a standalone topic (from a permalink, or when you open a
topic action action in a new tab, or presumably when you choose a topic action
with no-JavaScript), Flow puts the un-escaped topic title in the and in the tag.

WONTFIX seems like an odd choice for this bug. PHP being built with large file
support is considered a "bug" in Ubuntu? There are examples of how to support
both gzopen() and gzopen64() at the same time. Why not just take that path and
not introduce an issue for anyone that needs or chooses to have PHP built with
this capability?

Oh, MediaWiki uses more advanced things for styling (like… LESS?), that was
never the problem. The only problem was unspecified performance issues.

But I really don't feel like introducing two new ways of doing such a little
feature is the right thing to do from a maintainability standpoint (both the
maintainability of core, and maintainability of any skins that might want to
use different icons).

Each time I install a new update from TestFlight, I have to log-in again.

Other iOS apps keep me logged in even after updates. It would be great if the
Wikipedia app would do the same. I generally find myself less likely to update
and/or use an app/website/service/program if it requires me to log in regularly
and this may be true for others.

[Bug 63579] QUnit tests for jquery.makeCollapsible and jquery.color failing on Jenkins

2014-07-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=63579

(In reply to Krinkle from comment #19)
> Considering it is only affecting tests related to asynchronous Date
> manipulation, I suspect one or more of the extensions the Growth team
> maintains is interfering with that interface.

I'm not sure what you mean by "asynchronous Date manipulation". Sinon's fake
timer methods are synchronous, AFAICT, just a simulation where you advance the
clock manually.

As far as the actual code (jquery.color.js and jquery.makeCollapsible.js), they
are both using .promise (https://api.jquery.com/promise/) to monitor completed
actions in the fx queue.

GuidedTour (one of the extensions this bug affects) does not have any
asynchronous tests, nor does GettingStarted. Although we use setTimeout, we
certainly don't do anything weird like redefining it.

EventLogging (one of our dependencies) does use asynchronous tests, but we're
hardly the only extension to use EventLogging. (Note, EventLogging is not a
Growth extension). I don't know if any extensions with QUnit tests use
EventLogging, but I suspect they do.

If you see a bug (or unexpected interaction) which we can fix in a Growth
extension, let us know.

However, practically speaking, we should focus on getting this bug fixed. My
next step (as mentioned on Gerrit) will be to try use PhantomJS's remote
debugging to step through and find exactly what's happening.

At
https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:WhatLinksHere/Template:Rebbie_Jackson&limit=50
in the final line, there are all the items in that Board which use the navbox
as a test.

The problem is, there isn't a clear distinction between the posts where the
template is /linked/, and the posts where it is /transcluded/. It seems to be
claiming that all the uses are transcluded, but at least one of them isn't.

If the detection is accurate but the display is wrong, then this just needs a
wording change.

If the detection isn't accurate, then that needs to be fixed.

(Sidenote-for-later, probably needs a split bug: Also, given that Flow is
moving towards a more topic-centric model, it might make more sense to list
each topic separately? )

[Bug 67286] Recent regression caused blurry content text on iPad (desktop/Vector skin)

2014-07-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67286

There's been a duplicate bug report and at least one person complaining about
this on IRC (today), in addition to what Brion pointed out in comment 0.

We rarely get that much feedback about broken features, and if non-developers
report a bug this many times, then it means it's pretty noticeable, so I opted
to revert this and consider solving the issue better later. If you can solve
the issue better, by all means do :)

This just returns us to the rendering we had last week.

This is quite a well known issue and there for a good reason I
suspect, so I'd urge you to reconsider the fix as by removing it you
have probably introduced jerky animations to mobile:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2946748/iphone-webkit-css-animations-cause-flicker

What would be better is to not apply animations willy nilly.
In mobile we have a class called animations that only gets applied to
the html when animations can be run safely.
It would be good to only apply vector-animateLayout for browsers we
know that can cope with it.

[Bug 67390] VisualEditor Mobile:In iOS Safari, the toolbar for Mobile VE also scrolls down when you try to scroll down the page having a node selected

This is also happening for the context menu bar in Mobile VE.When you put your
cursor for the first time on a node such as link, the context menu bar appears
somewhere in the middle of the screen and then scrolls down as you scroll down
the page.
However, it does not happen once you close the keyboard and try it for the
second time on that session.

[Bug 67042] Allow HTML5 tag (ruby support for East Asian typography)

2014-07-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Screenshot of ruby examples in current Safari 7.0.5

For reference again, the ruby samples from the parser test case copied into a
wiki page (with the patch) and rendered in Safari. Current Chrome appears about
the same, including current Canary builds.

Note that in addition to the not being supported yet and rendering
outside the ruby area (as expected), the "inline" and jukugo forms do *not*
render correctly in Safari/WebKit or Chrome/Blink -- the annotations "spill
over" and align incorrectly.

(Also note that latest FirefoxNightly parses the ruby elements but doesn't
*render* them as anything but plain text yet.)

Current rendering of ruby samples in IE 11 & dev preview with patch

Just for reference, here's a screenshot of the ruby examples in the
parserTests.txt file rendered on a wiki (with the patch on) in IE 11 (Windows
8.1 Update) and IE Developer Preview.

The "double-sided ruby" with the 'San Francisco' translation is the one using
the new element, and as expected renders the second ruby line not as a
ruby line since IE 11 doesn't know about .

The others all render as expected, which is not surprising as the HTML ruby
spec is apparently based on IE's implementation. ;)

Several of the failures reported above were caused by the local hacks that had

OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: major
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: WikidataRepo
  Assignee: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org

Steps to reproduce:

[Bug 67393] New: [Monolingual] Old value is saved when keys are pressed to fast

2014-07-01 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67393

Bug ID: 67393
Summary: [Monolingual] Old value is saved when keys are pressed
to fast
   Product: MediaWiki extensions
   Version: master
  Hardware: All
OS: All
Status: NEW
  Severity: critical
  Priority: Unprioritized
 Component: WikidataRepo
  Assignee: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
  Reporter: thiemo.maet...@wikimedia.de
CC: wikidata-b...@lists.wikimedia.org
   Web browser: ---
   Mobile Platform: ---

Steps to reproduce:

1. Edit an existing monolingual value. Lets say it contains the string "Test".
2. Press x + backspace very fast.
3. Save.

Result: The input field shows "Test" but "Testx" is saved.

Same happens the other way around. Press backspace + the character you just
deleted very fast. "Tes" is saved.
