Yeah sorry, I haven't had much time recently to play with the updated app, so I
was holding off on closing it. I took a quick look at it just now and it looks
much better :)

[Bug 68468] Images with border parameter should display captions

According to comment # 15. Why not make "border" part of "thumb" and introduce
"noborder" for explicitely removing all borders on images, where a border is
not needed or is depreciated. That would spare editors from combing through
tens of thousands articles wether "border" is needed or not.

[Bug 68275] Google search links to Wikipedia app still when it was uninstalled

2014-07-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon

Florian changed:

   What|Removed |Added

Summary|Uninstall leaving things|Google search links to
   |behind for some users? |Wikipedia app still when it
   ||was uninstalled

Updates the title. The problem is (i have tested it and verified), that the
user becomes deep links in Google search, when he installed the Wikipedia App
from Google Play. If he uninstall the app, the deep links are still there and
links to Google Play search pname:org.wikipedia to install the app. That's not
really good, the user wants to uninstall the app, so he wants to go to
en.m.wikipedia.org (or another language) from Google search, not have to click
a little link "open on wikipedia.org) :)

Hope that makes much more understandable for all.

Understood that. My point is we should at least have some plain text
description other than internal links to make everything clear and easy to
search for others. I almost wrote a new bug about this particular problem since
the title din't say too much.

Back to the topic, could anyone provide other app(s) which is also using
google's new App Indexing (deep linking) so we can see if it has the same
problem? I tried "Opentable" which is the official example on
https://developers.google.com/app-indexing/ , but it doesn't even give
deeplink in google searching for me in the first place..

Yep, as you can see from bug 65566 (thanks for marking that as a see also),

How are people forgetting when MassMessage specifically warns you if you're
missing a timestamp? Is the check not working in all cases?

That should work perfectly fine with standard archive bots that use a regex for
timestamps anywhere in the thread.

I don't think anyone said that or implied that.

Most people do not believe that adding complicated HTML codes like

(*Actual* content here)

is "content". One could just as easily argue that adding the proper formatting
codes to ==The Section Heading== was "content", but you do that much simpler,
non-talk-page-breaking task for them.

We need this because it will help the 99.9% of people on the planet who *don't*
know the relevant HTML codes and MediaWiki style names. For the 0.1% (or
fewer) who actually know these codes, they can untick the box and type it by
hand, if they prefer.

I think we don't need to parse HTML diffs, we use the API to get info about
revisions and users, and difflib to show text diffs.
Detection of the number of vandalism warnings on users' talk pages is
interesting, but should not be bundled in the framework unless it is easily
localized.

Also, the patch does not appear to exist anymore on JIRA.

Our Redis set is only supposed to include pages in the main namespace (and thus
ignores category changes to other pages).

However, it should listen to cross-namespace moves, and remove/add pages as
appropriately. Otherwise:

* Pages that are moved into the main namespace will not be added if they have
the relevant categories at move-time (this probably affects drafts)
* Pages moved out will clutter the Redis sets (probably more of an edge case)

When running VE on mobile, in the console:

$('.ve-ui-context')
[]
$('.ve-ui-mobileContext')
[]

I thought that the context not appearing on mobile was a CSS regression but it
seems it's no longer attached to the DOM. Too tired today to figure out why (or
to figure out how DesktopContext is attached to DOM).

While it cloned the submodules over https, the clone recursive worked for me,
so I have updated the bug summary to reflect this.

The "error: SSL certificate problem: self signed certificate in certificate
chain while accessing ..." doesnt appear in my output, so something has
radically changed since October 2013, which is probably masking this bug.
Either the certificate has been changed, or this problem only existed in an
earlier git version.

[Bug 66021] Grey content text in Vector impairs legibility

2014-07-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon

> Screenshot-gamma3.png

That screenshot looks very similar to the grey (#252525) text to me (on the
same monitor).

That's the main problem I'm trying to get at, though - gamma is an issue, but
there's a lot more to it than just the gamma. Even with differences in gamma,
defined black and white do tend to look pretty similar across devices (some may
be brighter or more black than others, but it is basically still black and
white), but how the contrast is handled in between those colours may be
completely different, resulting in the appearance of greys varying wildly. They
can potentially show up as anything between black and white, or even just AS
black or white.

Examples:
* #444: Looks like a good dark grey background colour for displaying images
against (because it won't distract from the image, but will still result in
enough contrast to make out any black elements) on one screen. Just looks black
on another. #888, on the other hand, looks the same on both. So does #eee.
* #f6f6f6: Used, along with some light blue, to make the gradients in the
vector skin. Completely indistinguishable from white on one monitor. Tabs are
only distinguished by a small visible part of the blue gradient and the
borders, and even those are hard to make out.
* #222: Looks the same as #444 on one monitor. Obviously not the same colour.

These are monitors I have and use. Out of six, six are kind of crappy, just in
different ways (dead pixel, off red intensity, the above examples of weird
contrast; it varies), but these are also fairly standard consumer models (three
of them were apparently top-rated on newegg, or got labelled with some sort of
award there).

Unfortunately, while monitors are adjustable, because the hardware/software
of/for the device itself generally isn't very good in the first place, solving
for one problem usually just winds up with another. Some problems, of course,
are much more preferable to others (such as an overall level of contrast that
doesn't hurt the eyes, or a level of darkness that makes playing the most enjoyable), but there will always be
problems.

Here's the thing, though - we don't CARE if the subtleties of the vector skin
are getting lost for some people, or that the background colour a lightbox uses
just looks black on some displays. That doesn't really matter, because that
stuff is really just decoration. It'd be nice if people could see it, but if
not, whatever.

Text, though, we need people to be able to see well. Always.

Either we need a component for each script in compat & core, or a component
'Other scripts'.

I slightly prefer the latter option.

If we do the former, here is a complete list of scripts in core

http://git.wikimedia.org/tree/pywikibot%2Fcore.git/master/scripts

The only overlap in names between pywikibot/ and scripts/ are:
login.py
version.py

IMO the script and the library file for login and version are tightly coupled
and we do not need two components for those. IMO both of those sit nicely
under 'General'.

[[basketball]] works fine. [[soccer]] fails; my guess is because it's a
redirect, and thus there is no text associated directly with the title soccer.

[Bug 68395] P-wrapping and inline HTML tags

2014-07-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=68395

So, looks like PHP parser + Tidy moves these formatting tags into the list
items.

Try the following in a sandbox.

#1
#2
#3
#4

and notice the big numbers for the list items and the small numbers for content
which looks odd (and not quite what is intended).

screenshot

Test Environment-test2 and betalabs
Steps-
1> open a blank page in VE.
2>type some text and at the end of the last character (could be a space after
the text or the last character in the text itself) insert a comment.
3>Now click to move the cursor after the comment, this closes the comment
dialog too.
4> Insert a whitespace.I cannot see the cursor at this point.
5> click on the page again and the cursor appears before the start of the line.
6>Hit the spacebar and then press backspace key. A pawn appears next to the
comment. Please see screenshot_chrome.

In Safari-
Try the same steps and at step#6 I get the WebKit2WebProcess.exe dialog saying
“WebKit2WebProcess.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close.”. After I
click to send the error report and I get logged out of my account.

In FF 31- no issues were found when whitespace was inserted after a comment.

[Bug 67602] Performance problem on database server s5 using commonswiki

2014-07-24 Thread bugzilla-daemon
https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=67602

After the change to mariadb10 nearly all of my script always failed with one of
two different errors:
ERROR 2013 (HY000): Lost connection to MySQL server during query
ERROR 1213 (40001): Deadlock found when trying to get lock; try restarting
transaction

I solved this by prepending all sql scripts with
SET SESSION tx_isolation='READ-UNCOMMITTED';

Sean also raised the lock timeout in between. I haven't checked if this makes
my session based transaction isolation level change unnecessary.

All scripts/queries using joins with commonswiki are running successful now.
But i have not tested all scripts today. I'll make a complete report within the
next two days.
There seems at least a problem with two scripts querying wikidata only
(wikidatawiki_p.wb_terms). I am still investigating in this problem. These had
been running on s5.labsdb with mariadb5 without problems.
